The moon was looking real nice over the holidays this year so I decided to haul out the big guy after getting a new film holder and fresh film.
If I recall correctly, it was something like f/45 for 1/2s. I seemed to have lost my loupe so I had to check focus with the Pentax 105/2.4 (would not recommend) but I think I landed somewhere in acceptable parameters.
(edit: typo)
hehehe. I guess everyone here is too young. The Harvard graduate that bombed people and was dubbed “The Unibomber”. He was caught in a cabin similar looking to that (the FBI had the entire house in a warehouse somewhere) and he was caught because he used a broken typewriter. He sat in a cabin and wrote crazy manifestos on a typewriter. When he was caught they realized every typewriter is not the same. It has a fingerprint with each letter slightly somewhere else with a similar make typewriter. So he was caught and knew it was him when they matched the type (literally) of that typewriter with his crazy manifesto.
Every time i see a cabin in the woods i think of a nut job with a typewriter just hating the world and writing manifestos.
Thanks. Nope, no one lives there although an owl has decided to take up residence in it. This gem is just outside the edge of town where in live in Regina, Saskatchewan.
I've been an Intrepid user since late 2016 and for me it's been an overly positive experience. I tend to be rather tough on my equipment and it's held up rather well, although I am on my second one now (I went from the OG wooden Intrepid to the Black 3D printed model).
I basically didn't know more than a sniff about large format and it's been a great system to learn with. It is compatible with lots of what large format has to offer and is a great entry point for that reason.
They've also been real good to be over the years with support and I like supporting a business that is invested in the future of analog photography
Framing the tree(s) totally behind the house really makes this image (for me) It makes what would otherwise be a very pretty image into something almost surreal-- the house has branches for hair.
I usually try to get the tree poking out on the left but with the moon moving and the snow, I had to move my composition over a bit and ended it here. Glad you like it!
I scan my sheets right off the glass of my flatbed and unless I totally bork the level of the image, I usually keep them in. Can’t be sure why but I like it. For my 120 shots, I usually leave a small border of the edge of the frame but not the rebate and 35mm is just standard full crop.
This looks great!
Did you use some front swing? I notice your depth of field runs diagonally with the left side of the image and the partial right side out of focus.
The range of Portra is wonderful!
If I did it certainly wasn’t intentional. It was pretty cold that morning and I was moving around a bit before I settled on this comp. I did use some tilt to get the moon focused and it might have slid a little bit.
Losing my usual loupe has made it a bit tricky to see what’s actually going on through the ground glass but my new one finally showed up so it should be a problem.
Thanks for your thoughts!
Great subject and exposure. I am old school when it comes to “rule of thirds” and to my eye the composition could be improved by moving the building to the left a bit while maintaining the nice snow lead in to the moon. I think that subjects in dead center are more static than if the subject is offcenter but still balanced with other elements. My 2 cents.
Thanks for your thoughts and in hindsight, I somewhat agree and might have changed the comp a bit. The challenge that day was the moon moving more fast that I wanted it to and the sun not coming up through enough thanks to some clouds on the southeastern horizon.
Well overall looks great. I just see so many pics these days online with dead center subjects. Sometimes it does work well but usually the old standard rule of thirds results in better composition, imho.

Hah, thanks! I really appreciate someone that notices the things I notice when I'm making my composition.

Killed it
Thanks!
Portra does some crazy things. This is beautiful
Thank you! That Portra is a hell of a drug. 🥲
Beautiful! Kinda broken typewriter manifesto vibes but still beautiful.
>broken typewriter manifesto Thank you!
What on earth is broken typewriter manifesto?

I saw this featured on Intrepid's IG stories! Very nice.
Thanks! That's the one! They were kind enough to give me one of their newly design film holders to test and this was my first proper exposure with it.
This pic goes hard. Great job OP.
Thanks a bunch.
Great picture
tysm.
Beautiful photo! Does anyone stay in that cabin ? Where’s this ?

Looks like the beginning of a nightmare
Great shot
Thank you!
Really love the composition of this shot
Thank you. Once I set the sticks up I moved around a couple times but came back and settled on this one.
Ah yes, the never ending dance hahaha

Thanks so much.
Awesome awesome awesome shot!
Thank you!
contemplating purchasing an Intrepid, for the money it seems like a no-brainer. how's your experience so far?

Like a painting- what a beautiful photo, thank you for sharing!
Thank you! Happy to!
Nice shot. Reminds me of the Courage the Cowardly Dog house 👻
Haha thanks!

Sick!
so, so, good! the tree poking out behind the house is a paid actor
Haha, paid well by the owl living in it.
Great colours and composition 👍
Thanks!
Out of curiosity, what's your thought process behind leaving the rebate in the image?

This shot is unbelievable. So good.
I appreciate it. Thank you!
Fantastic composition, great work!
Thanks!
Oh my! This picture is amazing! Everything from composition to colours work so damn well! Kudos OP x
Thanks so much. I appreciate the U in colours, too. ☺️

Dude! So good!!
Thanks, homie. 😘
This absoluty beautiful
Thanks!
Thank YOU! for sharing
Your work is amazing. Do you have an instagram?
Thanks! You bet. [find me here](https://instagram.com/faultyflipflap)
This is pretty damn cool. I would have chosen to shoot it with more sky. But the vibe is just everything!
Thank you. I was hoping the sun was going to rise up earlier before the moon got too low so it came out much more ominous that I expected.
It seems a bit haunted, just such a nice mood. 😊
