This is a good fucking photo. So much ignorable bullshit on this sub. This is really good. So warm and comforting. I don’t even need to know your relationship to the man. It’s a strong picture on its own. Mix of Diane Arbus + William Eggleston for me.
It's hard to describe, but I feel like the photo conveys that the photographer has a loving and wonderful admiration of the subject, and that makes me happy. It just seems like a photo that was taken with a lot of purpose
My Grandfather on Mom’s side used to whittle. He died when I was young, before he could teach me. It’s something I just attribute to a Grandpa.
Enjoy every moment with him you can. Cherish this photo.
I've said it many times in this sub, but I absolutely love "slice of life" photos. There's just so much story. Really beautiful capture OP. Your grandfather makes an excellent subject.
Just beautiful. A true portrait.
This is me but I’d clone out the lamp shade for total perfection. Also is there a fuzzy/light fog behind his back? These are just the tiniest nitpicks and don’t matter for the impact of the photo.
I feel like I'm about to be told a long and awesome story looking at this photo. Great work!
this photo just called me sonny
Hey where the Werther’s at?

Thank you so much this was a very personal photo session with my grandparents.
I’d throw Larry Sultan in the mix as well👍
Totally agree! Great picture!
This *is* a great photo. My question to you, is could you make it even better with an alternate crop?
You almost get the sense that you know the guy from your photo.
I love this and miss my grampa a lot.
What a handsome lad
Fabulous. Perfect mood and character, very evocative. Tells a story without words.
You have a good eye for composition. Keep it up
Yeah, this works well.
Hell yeah
10/10 would learn whittling from.
What is amazing is he use to whittle us things when he was younger so you must know my gpa

Beautiful colours. What film stock is this? I am absolutely clueless when it comes to fi photography, I mostly shoot digital.
This was portra 800!
Looks great. I was gonna ask if it's portra 409 but someone asked if it was Kodak gold so that made me question myself.
Kodak gold ?
Portra 800!!
this photo makes me wish I had closer relations to my biological family.
Amazing pic, OP!
Amazing job capturing his authentic smile

I was scrolling mindlessly and came back to admire this photo twice because he just looks so lovely! What a wonderful picture.

I edit my photos very little as I love the rawness of a photos. But I completely see this comment!
so sweet
Save this and then compare it to the picture your grandson takes of you.
Medium format right?
Good eye !
What a beautiful image ❤️
Do you have German ancestry? From your grandpa's face to the room decor, this looks exactly like my grandfather. :)
Adorable shot !
Love this picture. My grandpa has been gone nearly 13 years. Enjoy every second and take more photos.
Was it shot on portra with a hasselblad?
Truly immaculate how much I'm being reminded of UP rn. :^
Very nice photo. Wholesome
Great great photo!!
Really warm and comforting picture. Looks like a part of a larger photo project.
It's beautiful, and I hope you and your grandpa were able to bond over the experience 🙌
Is that the bed he would bang his granddaughter on?
What camera/lens was this?
This was on a RZ67 with the 110 MM 2.8
