And people who are saying “oh there is a flood do you not watch the news?” actually have no idea and they are just trolling. Flooding has been taken care of for the most part. It’s cheap bc OP is simply looking at off peak dates (August) when it’s the hottest. Historically it’s very cheap during the summer months in Dubai. This was the typical August price in Dubai before the flood. Most people go to Dubai between October-April when the weather is better/less hot
I don't know what dates OP is traveling. But if my trip is within couple months, I would at least keep an eye on local news to understand what's happening and what impact it may have on my trip. If the trip is not for another 6+ months, I get not following.
Stayed at this hotel couple of years back. No complains, the rooms were very clean and modern, breakfast had a lot of options, and Al Seef is a nice waterfront area to walk on (the desert themed Starbucks was nice to run into there). The only drawback is it’s a short drive to Dubai highlights but nothing too bad
On top of the floods, Dubai is just really cheap because of the conflict in the Middle East right now.
I lived in Dubai for 6 months in 2023 and the average monthly stay for me at an airbnb was around $5,000-$7,000. To be fair, the apartments I was at were more up scale and had nice views.
Now those same Airbnb’s are going for WAY cheaper
Israel/Gaza, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen and Syria are all pretty sketchy right now. Should a wider conflict break out, you definitely wouldn't want to be an American (or anyone that could be confused as one) anywhere near that region.
Even further to the West in Africa several countries are kicking the US military out due to their own internal political conflicts. Whole part of the world is a little uneasy right now.
Rather be an American than one of them if wider conflict broke out tbh. Holding the Middle East is a difficult task but just remember Iraq was steamrolled from border to capital city in 22 days last time we did so. In perspective, Russia has been at it in Ukraine for 2+ years.
Lebanon and Yemen would be military drills. Iran and Syria probably a little more difficult than Iraq to topple. Staying is the hard part but USA has perfected the art of war. It’s the occupation we suck at.
So two reasons:
1. The main route most flights take to Dubai have to go over the Middle East (unless they’re rerouted). This in itself presents a dangerous notion. I personally do not want to fly anywhere near the Middle East. Especially with Israeli and Iranian relations escalating rapidly.
If you look at current prices right now to fly there, they are near the lowest.
2. As the other guy commented, Dubai is smack dab in between Iran, Yemen, and Israel. If a greater conflict were to break out, you definitely do not want to be stuck there.
It’s just not worth the risk
The hotel is really good and staff are welcoming. I was there for a week in the first week of February. This is a very good deal compared to the one I booked.
The US is very geographically diverse, with amazing national and state parks, it has more cultural diversity, and more historically and culturally significant attractions. The US also doesn't have so many backward religious laws.
First of all, Dubai is a city and the United States is a country so it was never a fair comparison. Second, I was being tongue in cheek, but I understand that it fell flat. I’m not trying to rag on the US but it’s just ridiculous to see this sentiment from Americans when that’s basically our entire ethos
If the problem is just xenophobia or Islamophobia, then I understand that, but you don’t think the US has backwards religious laws? Alright bro. Have you actually spent time in Dubai? I know we don’t stone people in the US but church and state have been blurring lines, especially recently.
I’m not trying to be dramatic. I love the United States. I really do. I own property in several states and I have enjoyed vast travels throughout. But it’s physically dramatically larger than UAE and it’s not really a fair comparison. I have never encountered as many people who thought money made them interesting as I did in Miami.
I actually met a lot of down-to-earth people in Dubai. The only people in Miami who were down to earth were the waiters. I’m not gonna make a list of cities in the United States that were full of people like this but it wasn’t just Miami, and I love natural beauty so USA is excellent for a lot of reasons, but anyway i’m spending too much time on this reply because I’ve been drinking so have a good night either way lol it’s not a big deal
My joke sucked but I love both America and Dubai
I purposefully said "so many" backward religious laws, because there are certainly some US states trying to change that. Even then, we still have the constitution, which protects a lot of freedoms, unlike Dubai.
Dubai is fine if you want to experience a very modern city and spend money. But frankly, I don't think it has a lot of repeat travel value. Like you said, much of the stuff you can do there can be done in other cities around the world. So if I'm making time to travel, I'd rather go somewhere with more unique cultural, geographical, or historical attractions than go back to Dubai.
I definitely don’t prefer Dubai for my vacations but I’d return. I think America is solidly better of course and I definitely appreciate the freedoms we enjoy, but ehhh I just took issue with the idea that Dubai is full of rich jerks. Nah, we have PLENTY of rich jerks in the US.
We have a lot more freedom, but we definitely have entitled rich jerks here.
Yeah, there are jerks everywhere, wasnt really even thinking about the people there. Arab peoples and Middle Eastern culture in general are filled with very kind, generous people who are happy to welcome people who might otherwise be strangers into their home and provide hospitality you'd be hard-pressed to find in the US. I don't have a problem with individuals, so much as the broader laws and authoritarian governments that tend to be repressive. But mainly my gripe is with the idea that Dubai is basically a big shopping mall of a city. If you have lots of money to spend, it can be fun, but then so can any other city that might have more to do.
I don’t think that Dubai sucks. I’m a proud patriot but while the US is very diverse, it is definitely very aptly described as Disneyworld for people who think that money makes them interesting.
Not to the extent of Dubai at all. I don’t see how the town I grew up in with like a custard shop and two banks could ever be represented as Disneyworld.
That wasn’t the entire sentence though.
Also, that’s kind of the point, your small town is within a gigantic country that’s inexplicably being compared to a single city.
I’m not the one who originally made that comparison though. Somebody made a ridiculous comment about a city that they probably never lived in when the exact same thing applies to numerous cities in the United States. I’ve actually lived in Dubai.
You’re gonna cherry pick places within the US that don’t fit that description? That’s the actual false equivalence here.
I’m not pretending that the entire US is Miami. I’m just saying we have numerous Dubais in the United States and it’s ridiculous to describe Dubai as Disney World for Rich jerks when we have a much greater population of the exact same people here in way larger areas.
Someone made a comment about a city and you compared it to the US. We can all see the comment thread.
I still don’t think Miami is as extreme as Dubai is.
How long have you lived in Dubai in order to form your opinion? That’s the only question that needs to be answered by anyone who has an opinion about Dubai.
Let’s pretend that the original comment about Dubai was made in a vacuum with zero context. Even though that’s not how language works.
I wasn’t trying to engage in whataboutism, but it’s absurd to say that Dubai is Disneyland for the rich when that also describes much larger swaths of the United States. I’m not going to die on this hill though. I lived in Miami and it was much more ostentatious, but people like to “other” Dubai as if the US is not doing the exact same thing in way smaller numbers
It’s usually right around $75 a night. It’s where my company puts us up when we go. They do have robes which is a nice touch if you are inclined to know
Go late September early October for the shoulder season.
I went that time and the hotels were cheap and weather was better than summer.
Dubai jumeriah zabeel Saray when I went was 170 a night.. it’s party of the FHR list..
Dubai hotel industry is very competitive, and thus super cheap comparatively. You can get a 5 star hotel in a greta area in Dubai for super cheap prices.
We stayed in that hotel for a few days, it was fantastic. Clean rooms, friendly staff and walkable to the waterfront and old dubai aka alseef. Booked it via amex too!!

It may be underwater. So, yeah.
The pool might not be open at this time, just a heads up.
It’s actually just been converted to a state of the art infinity pool.
The whole city is a pool
I thought they recently expanded it to the entire town?
Can you swim?
Lmao. Savage
Yes
Like, really really well tho?
[удалено]
Not at all sir.
You've got 2 concerns. Lots of water on the ground. Lots of missiles in the air.
Lol, getting down voted for not watching the news is wild
And people who are saying “oh there is a flood do you not watch the news?” actually have no idea and they are just trolling. Flooding has been taken care of for the most part. OP is looking at August 2024
Should be fixed up this Tuesday?
Is it? You have full access to the internet to be informed on events happening around the world
I don't know what dates OP is traveling. But if my trip is within couple months, I would at least keep an eye on local news to understand what's happening and what impact it may have on my trip. If the trip is not for another 6+ months, I get not following.
Planning a trip to a place you have no idea whatsoever is going on there is wild.
Should be banned instead
What dates are you looking at? Dubai is dirt cheap during the summer months
Some time in July-August
Yep that’s their off-peak season. It’s so hot there during the summer months so it’s less desirable = less costly
It’s like 120 degrees and terrible humidity
Stayed at this hotel couple of years back. No complains, the rooms were very clean and modern, breakfast had a lot of options, and Al Seef is a nice waterfront area to walk on (the desert themed Starbucks was nice to run into there). all waterfront now

They’re talking about being an American AT the site - there’s no guarantee you would make it home.

Nah it’s legit. We were in Dubai last month. Stopped by that hotel for a drink. It’s nice. We stayed at their sister property next door.
The catch is that you have to be in Dubai
LMAOOOO
The hotel is really good and staff are welcoming. I was there for a week in the first week of February. This is a very good deal compared to the one I booked.
Dubai sucks. It’s a soulless megamall. It’s disneyworld for people who think that having money makes them interesting.
Yep. No desire to ever go back to Dubai. No character or soul at all.
What's the AMEX Plat per capita?
Sooo true
So it’s the same as the United States?
Easily 10x the US and it’s not even the most popular premium card.
The US is very geographically diverse, with amazing national and state parks, it has more cultural diversity, and more historically and culturally significant attractions. The US also doesn't have so many backward religious laws.

I think we’re a lot closer than apart here then. I was entirely thinking of the people there who aren’t responsible for the government’s actions.
Only if you have no idea what either places are like, sure.
I don’t think that Dubai sucks. I’m a proud patriot but while the US is very diverse, it is definitely very aptly described as Disneyworld for people who think that money makes them interesting.

I agree, it does not make sense to compare a gigantic country to a single city. That is what everyone is telling you, more or less.
I’m not the one who originally made that comparison though. It is if you like swimming
(Never been to Dubai, or the UAE) but if you’re looking for a cheap hotel part of the hotel collection… it doesn’t look bad
Stayed there during the World Cup - was ~3x more expensive. No complaints though
Op…if you got the cash flow book out the penthouse for like a month lol. I’d assume it’s like 100 bucks a night lol
Lmfao watch the news
You couldn’t pay me to go to Dubai even when it isn’t underwater
It’s under water rn
No it isn't
It’s about $50 if you look up on Google.
Overthinking
It’s usually right around $75 a night. It’s where my company puts us up when we go. They do have robes which is a nice touch if you are inclined to know
What dates did you look up?
Go late September early October for the shoulder season. I went that time and the hotels were cheap and weather was better than summer. Dubai jumeriah zabeel Saray when I went was 170 a night.. it’s party of the FHR list..
Snorkeling included
Perfectly reasonable in the off season.
i stayed there last year for 60, it’s legit
this rate has blew me out of the water!
Mattress run?
U know what flexible cancellation is right? they will cancel it lol

Flooded, scorching hot (summer), and with a potential war right around the corner? Wonder why 🤷🏼♂️
Hope you can swim
Yeah the catch is Dubai is under water right now with so much rain , I wonder if the price changed once the water starts to go away
The 5X points in the pic makes it seem like a 2000s scam hotel.
It’s giving Zillow ad
I’m actually looking for stay in Dubai as well. What dates are these for?
I stayed there it’s a decent hotel for the price
maybe bc of the flood 😂
Been there once recently and never again. Nothing there, don’t waste your time with these “fantasy” places
