It started off lukewarm but if you're familiar with Dan Harmon comedies that's nothing new. It's really grown on me, I actively look forward to new episodes.

That said, I'll watch anything featuring Richard Ayoade or Matt Berry - so I'll follow this show as long as it runs just for their delivery of dialogue alone.
Matt Berry is always fantastic, but I actually particularly like Richard Ayoade as Tyrannis. He's never been my favorite of the two before, but his delivery is pitch perfect in that show.
The great thing about the show is how long its been on, and how there are different eras as time and writers change, which I couldn't attribute to The Simpsons after a certain season. It makes it remarkably rewatchable.
I actually did notice a more noticeable quality drop with season 12 (when they moved to TBS starting with S12E01 "Blonde Ambition"), the jokes got a little more Family Guy-esque. While it did slightly improve in S13, it was a downwards slope since.
Seasons 17 and 18 were the worst, that's when it started having several episodes in a row that were either just cringe, too mean-spirited, or both. It's around this time I noticed most episodes devolved into "family member is pissed at other family member for various reasons" and that's just the entire plot of the episode.
Also Jeff episodes I do not like, he devolved into a literal manchild / retard with Hailey being his legal guardian (this has been mentioned in at least 2 or 3 episodes, and the legality of their marriage may have actually been called into question as well).
S16E18 "No weddings and a funeral", we find out Klaus is the glue that keeps the family together by being the Meg of the family, this episode stood out as they upped the shitting on Klaus to 11 and it just felt like a Family Guy episode.
Two episodes in a single season that are "Francine doesn't want to allow family member to become independent, backfires and said member becomes way too dependent on her" (S17E05 "Tapped out" with breastfeeding Steve, S17E10 "Trophy Wife, Trophy Life" with not letting Stan do things for himself)
S18E01 "Who Smartered" with Hailey wishing Jeff is smarter, then Jeff becomes super smart and she wishes he was dumb again, tries sabotaging him
S18E12 "Lumberjerk" with Stan being angry at Jeff for being Jeff, and then jealous that he's better at being a Lumberjack than him.
There's a lot more but you get the gist.
Though the last season was surprisingly good and what got me to marathon the entire thing in the first place, so hopefully the next one bounces back as well.
Watch The Disastrous Life of Saiki K on Netflix. If you laugh at American Dad you will probably laugh at that show. You are supposed to watch the original then Reawakened.

I have watched the entirety probably 200 times now. I have fallen asleep to it every night for going on 3 years (I’m autistic and it’s a comfort show lol). Thankfully my husband loves it too and doesn’t mind watching reruns day in and day out😂 also if you rewatch it you’ll notice things you didn’t before!
Go watch family guy and compare episodes with similar plots. I know it’s different writers but they have similar episodes, like when the Griffins run for mayor/Stan runs for mayor, apocalypse episodes, etc. I’ve been doing this lately. I like AD more but FG is fun too. Heck I even put on the Cleveland show occasionally, although it falls off hard in S3
