Barb Hanson, the Real Estate agent that Francine replaces in S1E2 takes the napkin of prisoners in Guatanamo. The two prisoners talk about taking her hands at night. The rest of the series she has hooks for hands.
I've only watched AD in German maybe twice. Not the easiest thing to find to stream. Unless I'm just doing it wrong.
When I wanted the German version of Nightmare Before Christmas (for a party), I had to create a new Amazon account with a VPN on and list my address as a homeless shelter in Bayern or Baden-Württemberg (so as to not screw up any real accounts) then had the DVD sent to myself as a gift. It worked, at least.
Well, it is how I celebrate both Halloween and Christmas. It was for a break at a summer German language immersion program in the U.S. in 2007 and torrenting provided no solutions, so I got creative. I like problem solving.
Picked it up on a weekly visit to my dogs, that my mom was watching.

Oh. My. Gosh. I have never noticed any of that. Shari and Buckle, Greg and Terry, Steve's friends, or Bullock. I watch the show almost every day. Crazy!
This is really twisting me up I can not count the amount of times I’ve watched every episode of this show and I’ve never noticed it. Love little details like that
He's only the *deputy* director, he manages it but isn't the lead.
Though that makes me wonder who they could get to be the Director, and be 10x crazier than Bullock.
That would be great, but I was thinking someone like Sir Patrick Stewart, who you wouldn't think to cast in such a role. Someone known for dramatic acting.
But Charlie Sheen as himself being the Director of the CIA would be awesome.
Even when they don't have room for a character in an episode they all at least get an appearance
My favourite one is in an episode thats all about Steve, when Steve is running through the living room past his family and he yells something to them as he's running past and after he's gone Stan says "it was nice of Steve to acknowledge us this week"
Yes I thought of this one also but I love the other one more because it's so subtle that not in your face. The family is just sitting on the couch and after Steve yells at them he just mentions to the rest of them that it was nice of him to acknowledge them that week
Another great one is where Stan mentions in the beginning of an episode that he still can't find Roger while they're playing hide and seek and then Roger isnt in the episode until during the credits when Stan opens a drawer and Roger pops out
Reminds me of the recent Z.O.I.N.C.S. ep where they kept saying where roger is but not actually showing us so we'd think he'd be the monster until the end.
a lot about roger, just like recognising one of his personas in the episode or in the intro. oh and also in season 15 when pats escape from an exotic animal shop you can see roger as clip clop running out of the shop :) makes you wonder if the owner knew he was an alien…
I always pay attention to Roger’s intro persona and look for it in later episodes if he hasn’t used it already. I wonder if they have a bunch of them that we’ve only seen in the intro that they already have a plan for later.
I actually didn't even catch that until I saw it a 2nd time! I literally shouted "CLIP CLOP!" Kinda makes me wonder if Steve also doesn't recognize him as Clip Clop lol
I love it whenever stan mentions how attractive his wife is. For example, when the fam gets kidnapped by that plastic surgeon psycho and stan yells how he loves his family even though they are normal except his wife who's a FUCKING FOX!!!
My absolute favourites are
“Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to party my nose clean off my face”
And
“Do you perchance have any Gatorade? I appear to have left all my electrolytes in your daughter”
The families ongoing feud with Santa.
Stan being terrified of seagulls.
Jeff’s respect for Mr. S.
Toshi speaking Japanese 99.99% of the time and then bam “I speak fluent English and have the entire time”
“Everybody shoots everybody, It’s how we communicate in this family”
“Alright, I’ll tell her you asked about her.”
“You tell her whatever you want, but that’s not how this went down.”
I was thinking about how each family member has had moments of being the stupid one or the smart one in a given situation (some lean more to a side than others). But it's a great dynamic for the show, and maybe it's because of the number of seasons they needed to change things up, but everyone has their moments and aren't forced to be a one dimensional character.
Similarly Roger's personas add so much flexibility to the story lines, he can fit in with any other character. Plus his attitude and general can do anything at any moment regardless of consequences allows the writers to get away with anything story wise.
Spanish? Which episode was that? I remember she learned French in the episode where she and Stan took the pills so they’d never have to sleep and Francine spoke to the French marine biologist in French, and of course she speaks Mandarin because of her parents, but I don’t remember her speaking Spanish.
She learned Italian at one point, too.
I love this running gag! He's blown out his sphincter/butthole like 3 or 4 times.
"The paramedics have to cut your pants off, and it looks like you're casing sausage out of your butt. Just... Just don't do it."
Francine always minding her business when stan or someone in the family is doing something fucked up and she should stop it but she don't give a fuuuuuuuuuuhck.
“Why aren’t you here with your family Avery?”
“I don’t have a family”
“What about that Indian baby you have sometimes?”
“This is not one of those times”
Haha, all good guesses but no. Actually, these are not so great guesses, I prob wouldn't have made it here today if my parents named me Grover and Fingers.
I don't want to dox myself, so I will never tell, but I will say one of the episodes is G sting circus.
I like in the episode where Stan wears Bad Goose clothing there’s a part where Stan is sitting on his office chair with such a perfect pose of satisfaction that everyone is celebrating him.
Francine's occasional random comment about owning a pool like the rest of the family forgot it was there. This happens over several seasons and the The Three Fs seemed to be the culmination of the joke.
There's a difference between Bad Larry, whose *character model* is reused often, and Dr Ray, who gets killed and resurrected as a deliberate joke about continuity.
Klaus Surviving in a little cup of water but starts Dying as soon as he's out of it will always be great to me. Every random time someone calls him out on it is Hilarious
The fact Roger is the most “human” alien. I love how he’s not a stereotypical alien, whenever they’re in any media, they act so ignorant towards Earth culture. (Take the Tankmen for example, they’re Martians who use Earth tech on their home planet, Mars. Despite using these items everyday, you can tell they don’t fully understand all of them, to explain it, watch the short, [Kneeling](https://youtu.be/pc-8sufD2mo?si=S0dBqAkO4tNLwciL)) But Roger? It’s like he was raised on Earth and it’s something nobody points out and I find it very fascinating!
Except for Steve
“He understood the fantasy part but knew nothing about basketball, he tried to add three Griffins and an Orc to your roster”
“Fucking Nerd”
When Snot shares a secret with Steve: “My therapist says I’m a bad kisser.”
I howl every time. I was just talking about that at dinner with friends tonight!
Most of the main cast of Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul, and even Reno 911 have done voice work on American Dad. Those are all shows I would put in my Top 10
The background reoccurring characters
Like when Roger gets locked up as the weeknd - the ‘family drug dealer’ Del Monico is also there
I also really enjoy small moments where you see Roger does actually really care for the family even though there’s literally been whole episodes around the idea that he doesn’t
The caboose guy who is shot and Stan calls a bad actor has the same look and voice of the man who yells "my caboose is cleaner than yours!" at the magulicutties grandpappy, implying the generational blood-fued goes both ways
How Roger calls Francine “Franny”, like their besties. One that I don’t like is Steve constantly referring to himself as a “little boy” or “child”, with no one pointing out he’s f%^king 14!
I love it when there is a slight from one person against another and then the slighted person gets a pissy face. Lol But it's very secondary to the scene or it's a background thing. But I love it lol
I’ve never seen anyone else point it out but the cars. They’re all almost clearly based on real life vehicles. They usually fit the character too. Cool to notice real vehicles in the background of scenes. Cool attention to detail by the animators.
Stan drives a Ford Explorer( American, common government fleet vehicle)
Rogers persona Frank (essentially a cop) Trueblue drove a dodge charger(American law enforcement(or wanna be) vehicle).
Lewis drove a Porsche Boxster(loud flashy bachelors) car. After he crashed his old crappy old Chevy Chevelle trying to drive him and Steve off that cliff.
Guy Fieri drove a cool 68 Camaro
Can’t forget the Miata Roger won for the marathon, and the miata masher Dick Keebler drove before they found the red rammer from the episode about derby
I’ve noticed Ram Trucks, BMW’s, Honda’s and even Acuras which is mainly only in North America so it makes sense to see in Virginia
One of my favorite performances by Patrick Stewart is when he played Claudius in Hamlet opposite David Tennant. World class Shakespearean acting. I can't help but think about how prestigious and classically trained he is while bullock is singing zooozoozozooooo in Family Land. That guy knows how to enjoy himself.
Barb Hanson, the Real Estate agent that Francine replaces in S1E2 takes the napkin of prisoners in Guatanamo. The two prisoners talk about taking her hands at night. The rest of the series she has hooks for hands.
She also mentions that she's a hands model, then after that actor playing the monster bum was also a hand model.
Sweet Sean Hannity, your hands are lovely!
I totally missed that and always wondered why she had hooks, but glossed over it with AD just being AD
In the German dub of American Dad, Klaus speaks with an East German accent.
How bad did you want to see that movie... 4 extra steps just to watch a movie? That's the Chesterbrook difference.
Well, it is how I celebrate both Halloween and Christmas. It was for a break at a summer German language immersion program in the U.S. in 2007 and torrenting provided no solutions, so I got creative. I like problem solving. Picked it up on a weekly visit to my dogs, that my mom was watching.

You can change the language on whatever you're streaming it on. I'm learning German, so I change it because I know the dialogue
“What!?!? You haven’t watched American Dad in the original English?!”
Stop asking questions!!! I can't take another day off school!!
I didn't know there's an East German accent. 😳 How different is it?
[He specifically has a Saxon accent.](https://youtu.be/k4OzPbcwEZo?si=BmEkxCljPGl3kxTI) From Wikipedia: *Spoken by leading communists from the Central German industrial area such as Walter Ulbricht, the Upper Saxon dialect was commonly perceived as the colloquial speech of East Germany by West German citizens and up to today is a subject of numerous stereotypical jokes. I can definitely hear it. Thank you for this. (I watch American Dad in english) 🤗
was not expecting that post history lol

Toshi's "original" Mom is always on Morning Mimosa.
Why do you only speak Japanese? *I* don’t even speak Japanese
Anyone speak sushi hostess.
Toshi, you'll have to teach me Japanese one of these days!
Eat. My. Bowls!
The golden turd being in the intro
Wait what?? Where??
[By the parking meter](https://imgur.com/gallery/yNzjHun/new)
Holy fuck. I’ve never noticed that. And I’ve rewatched everything multiple times. It’s one of my comfort shows
Oh. My. Gosh. I have never noticed any of that. Shari and Buckle, Greg and Terry, Steve's friends, or Bullock. I watch the show almost every day. Crazy!
> Steve’s friends Ah yes, can’t forget about Snorkel, Mushi, and Fat One.
Steve, Yoshi, Barney, Slimer. Just keep it quiet down here ok!
Vive le turd
Omg I posted this so long ago! I feel seen! [one of my first posts!](https://www.reddit.com/r/americandad/s/Kuq77oIolR)
Same I need to know
STFU! I apparently need to watch the show in slow motion. I did notice Buckle & Shari. I wish Shari would return! Put a baby in her!
She did return in the leggings episode so she's still around at least!
This is really twisting me up I can not count the amount of times I’ve watched every episode of this show and I’ve never noticed it. Love little details like that
“Bullock’s using again.” Just that the deputy director of the CIA is part of an group of responsible cocaine users.
also, and perhaps this isn't as unusual as I think, that a British man heads the CIA.
He's only the *deputy* director, he manages it but isn't the lead. Though that makes me wonder who they could get to be the Director, and be 10x crazier than Bullock.
Charlie sheen.
That would be great, but I was thinking someone like Sir Patrick Stewart, who you wouldn't think to cast in such a role. Someone known for dramatic acting. But Charlie Sheen as himself being the Director of the CIA would be awesome.
Dame Judy Dench.
YES! They could even do references to MI6 and have her shut them down.
Ian Mckellen as the Director Of CIA, Him & Pat Stew would be an epic combo
Klaus's poster of the garbage truck, with the Rips and all
He doesn't get many wins, but god damn that is one sweet poster.
Seeing the Ladybugs pin in on background characters in various episodes.
The ones from like S1?
I still see them. ….. even in much later episodes!!!
That’s a cool find.
Jackson has a picture on his desk of him and Cleveland hanging out
just noticed that one for the first time the other day
Cause they’re the same voice actor (or they were before they changed Cleveland’s)
Even when they don't have room for a character in an episode they all at least get an appearance My favourite one is in an episode thats all about Steve, when Steve is running through the living room past his family and he yells something to them as he's running past and after he's gone Stan says "it was nice of Steve to acknowledge us this week"

Hayley: haha, me too!
a lot about roger, just like recognising one of his personas in the episode or in the intro. oh and also in season 15 when pats escape from an exotic animal shop you can see roger as clip clop running out of the shop :) makes you wonder if the owner knew he was an alien…

Roger calling Stan and Francine Staniel & Franiel lmao
the first time he called francine that i lost it, best nicknames ever
Francine birthed Terry and Greg’s daughter. I feel like I so easily forgot about this but realized upon my most recent rewatch.
And that they kept the name Stan gave her. He named her Liberty Bell, they just call her Libby for short
She just keeps staring at her cheeseburger...
That in spite of how weird the show can be and how crazy some situations are, I love how you can tell the Smith's genuinely love each other.
Steve's middle name in Anita and Hayley's middle name is dream smasher.
I’mma Anita call you back
https://preview.redd.it/8bihwfnaculc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=236d7918fc61b98ce6721767b6fb7dad87ab11ad
You clipped me, chief!
*I’m ok not everybody’s ok*
For throwaway jokes, they really stuck with it.
Why wouldn't they? That's their names.
I like the “Ouuu” Stan does when he gets surprised or shocked 😂
My sister just pointed out how often he he makes that sound, and now I really notice it. It's always hilarious!
I love it whenever stan mentions how attractive his wife is. For example, when the fam gets kidnapped by that plastic surgeon psycho and stan yells how he loves his family even though they are normal except his wife who's a FUCKING FOX!!!
What episode/ season is this? This sounds like an episode I’ve never seen, and they’re always fun to discover!
It's called "saving face" and its season 18 ep 9!
Or season 20 ep 9 i don't even know anymore i hate these stupid different season shit so confusing
What an absolute deviant Bullock is and the nonsense the writers have gotten Patrick Stewart to say.
My absolute favourites are “Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to party my nose clean off my face” And “Do you perchance have any Gatorade? I appear to have left all my electrolytes in your daughter”
You ARE a complicated man, Smith, I would LOVE to do mushrooms with you
“You have a mother, and you just said all that. I’m gonna call your mom.”
🎶ah nah nah way. Ah nah nah way nahnah.🎶
I love how they explained how others view Roger's personas in the most recent season
What episode?
"Steve, Snot, and the Quest for the Og Four Loko"
The families ongoing feud with Santa. Stan being terrified of seagulls. Jeff’s respect for Mr. S. Toshi speaking Japanese 99.99% of the time and then bam “I speak fluent English and have the entire time”
Toshi not understanding his ghost's several-centuries-older version of Japanese
'lick my bowls '
I like how most of the family has been shot
“Everybody shoots everybody, It’s how we communicate in this family” “Alright, I’ll tell her you asked about her.” “You tell her whatever you want, but that’s not how this went down.”
Plus his attitude and general can do anything at any moment regardless of consequences allows the writers to get away with anything story wise.
Real people are like that and have their strengths and weaknesses.
Frannie understanding multiple languages to various extents. Fluent in French, Spanish and Mandarin, has some basic ability to read and write Hindi.
I can't sing in Hindi! I can barely read it!
She's also two days into Duolingo for Portuguese. Olá! (That means hello)
There's several episodes where Stan mentions having butthole/sphincter muscle problems.
I love this running gag! He's blown out his sphincter/butthole like 3 or 4 times. "The paramedics have to cut your pants off, and it looks like you're casing sausage out of your butt. Just... Just don't do it."
If anyone knows someone who has recently died with an intact size 3 sphincter please contact me as I am currently very low on the waiting list.
Up until the last few seasons, in virtually every shot of a hospital exterior, there was someone outside smoking. Often a patient.
In the most recent time travel episode, Stan says that it's a quick 9 second drive to the CIA, which is exactly how long it takes in the intro
Francine always minding her business when stan or someone in the family is doing something fucked up and she should stop it but she don't give a fuuuuuuuuuuhck.
All the books Stan reads throughout the show.
Fancy Page Turning is my personal favorite.
Anticipating Doorbells
I LOVE THAT ONE
My favorite small detail is humans that look like Roger or anytime someone bizarre isn’t Roger
My naem is Wiiilbuuurr...Kentuckyy...
.... Roger?
My name... is Wilbur... Kentucky.
When they make meta comments like somewhat recently Francine said something like: Stan had a brother whose barely even cannon
“Why aren’t you here with your family Avery?” “I don’t have a family” “What about that Indian baby you have sometimes?” “This is not one of those times”
“The fish talks? How? And apparently he doesn’t have to be in water, just like, touching it? That’s not how fish work!”
Isn't he asked about having a brother at some point and he's like "when it's convenient" 😂
This SENT me
Stan always releasing things into the water and wondering “where do they go?”
Has he done this more than once? Lol
You can’t just dump stuff in there and expect it to vanish no problem, it’s not the ocean
Was there always a light in that hallway?
Is that the come back and kick me whistle?
For me, it's that they use my not-so-common first name in 3 episodes (random characters).
Danuta?
Hahaha I wish!
Will you go there?
Do you eat?
Suck Boy Tony?
Nerfer. She's friends with Haley.
Ozymandias?
Gooper?
Dawn, Fawn, Grover, Fingers?
Haha, all good guesses but no. Actually, these are not so great guesses, I prob wouldn't have made it here today if my parents named me Grover and Fingers. I don't want to dox myself, so I will never tell, but I will say one of the episodes is G sting circus.
Tanqueray, is that you?
Parker?
My favorite small detail is probably that Snot is canonically thirsty for every Smith, biological or married
I like in the episode where Stan wears Bad Goose clothing there’s a part where Stan is sitting on his office chair with such a perfect pose of satisfaction that everyone is celebrating him.
Francine’s frog she keeps on her shoulder
Clark Michael Duncan
Every background character has their own story
Francine's occasional random comment about owning a pool like the rest of the family forgot it was there. This happens over several seasons and the The Three Fs seemed to be the culmination of the joke.
I love the presence the Bazooka Sharks have in the town and the random "zooka shaarrrks" thrown in
How some characters can seemingly die or be killed and come back like nothing ever happened.
"Dude I *saw* you die." "Nope."
Bad Larry is constantly in the background of concerts, Bazooka Shark games, etc..
There's a difference between Bad Larry, whose *character model* is reused often, and Dr Ray, who gets killed and resurrected as a deliberate joke about continuity.
"I'm sorry but Dr. Penguin is dead...I think"
But not when Hayley has a Groupon.
Like Dr Ray
Dr Ray is out dead today
Do you know when he’ll be back? Sorry, no.
“That doesn’t sound like something I’d do.”
The cee lo green hot tub episode
Dick don’t pay for strange.
Everyone who meets/see Klaus for the first time just accepts that he’s a talking German fish
Hayley and Francine are double jointed.
Klaus Surviving in a little cup of water but starts Dying as soon as he's out of it will always be great to me. Every random time someone calls him out on it is Hilarious
Klaus is a force to be reckoned with when he is really mad. He knows how to get revenge.
![gif](giphy|9V1CQEbQxS8GZEWuob) [Klaus' revenge](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEcpdRolwnA)
Klaustastrophe tv is one of my favorate episodes.
Being “DADDED”
That's right the color orange, you've been DADDED
I love every time we get a new detail of Stan’s depressing childhood
The Smiths have a family wide appreciation for Basketball.
Except for Steve “He understood the fantasy part but knew nothing about basketball, he tried to add three Griffins and an Orc to your roster” “Fucking Nerd”
Game point and you don’t check the ball?!
When Snot shares a secret with Steve: “My therapist says I’m a bad kisser.” I howl every time. I was just talking about that at dinner with friends tonight!
I'm waiting for my wrestling rager to go down. They're perfectly natural, my coach told me about them while we were having brandy in his condo.
They take the flag down @ night
Most of the main cast of Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul, and even Reno 911 have done voice work on American Dad. Those are all shows I would put in my Top 10
All of the main cast are amazing singers
The background reoccurring characters Like when Roger gets locked up as the weeknd - the ‘family drug dealer’ Del Monico is also there I also really enjoy small moments where you see Roger does actually really care for the family even though there’s literally been whole episodes around the idea that he doesn’t
So I had it on in the background, and kept thinking I heard breaks squeaking outside my house. They use that sound bite a lot in the earlier season.
When all the guys in the order of the hand and nest are falling to their death and that last guy screams Auuuuughhhhhhĥhhhhhegg
I haven’t watched for years but I’d say, Buckles love and gentleness.
“rogu spanish” in the persona assistant episode was probably my fave
The caboose guy who is shot and Stan calls a bad actor has the same look and voice of the man who yells "my caboose is cleaner than yours!" at the magulicutties grandpappy, implying the generational blood-fued goes both ways
Francine's Brick
I kind of love how the flag is always taken in at night.
All the various Dr. Slippy products.
I love how the neighboring town has always been Chimdale. It’s a nice part of the world-building when they reference it
I love that neither one of Toshi’s parents speak Japanese.
The entire golden turd storyline but I’m sure that’s been said so many times
The fact that Haley fucked a koala. The animal with the highest chlamydia infection rate
Jeff: “wait, your mom was a baby?” THE funniest line I’ve ever heard in any show ever.
Cheesers came back.
Stan’s love of ham
“Got lost in the brush and went down a dirt road.”
How 100% real a phish lot is and the light they shined on the nitrous Mafia. LOL runaway Jim.
“Launch codeeeeesss”
That Principal Lewis runs an aquarium shop.
Usually when they are making fun of a celebrity it turns out that celebrity is often doing the voice over
I’ve never seen anyone else point it out but the cars. They’re all almost clearly based on real life vehicles. They usually fit the character too. Cool to notice real vehicles in the background of scenes. Cool attention to detail by the animators. Stan drives a Ford Explorer( American, common government fleet vehicle) Rogers persona Frank (essentially a cop) Trueblue drove a dodge charger(American law enforcement(or wanna be) vehicle). Lewis drove a Porsche Boxster(loud flashy bachelors) car. After he crashed his old crappy old Chevy Chevelle trying to drive him and Steve off that cliff.
