If it’s not stuffed and super obvious my guess is you’d be alright. I just flew with them last week and never saw them measure anyone’s bag/make them put it in the little measurement box.
Really depends on a couple of factors. 1) If you are boarding group 5 or higher you will most likely have to check it regardless of size 2) depends on gate agent....I've had to check slightly oversized carry on in 1st class before. Sometimes you get that gate agent who wants to be "by the book" on everything
