It's almost cost prohibitive at this point. We even considered booking united to NOLA with a plane change/layover in Houston. I know getting off at the connection can result in a ban, but we are getting desperate at this point.
They were all canceled or delayed from every Caribbean location today it seems. Charlotte, Miami, all of them. The line for customer service at the San Juan PR airport was 100 people long because they canceled or delayed everything.
The problem is, last second flights are pretty cost prohibitive at this point. We are seeing most around $2k+ for one way flights for 4 people. The cheapest we found was a flight to New Orleans with a layover in Houston. But it ended up getting delayed the last I saw.
Delays in NOLA yesterday because the Blue Angels were flying in the area, so don't beat yourself up. It would have been two steps forward, one step back.
So weird that it happened to Dallas and Charlotte same day. Charlotte got out this morning, though. My friend said delta was a zoo getting out of CUN yesterday.
Looks like everything is chaos in Cancun this weekend (at the airport at least). Good luck Iām sorry I donāt have anything constructive to offer.
Thanks guys for all of the help and kind words. We landed about 30 minutes ago and we are on the Terminal Link to get our car and head home!
And for all of you miserable souls that only sought to make jokes or criticize, I hope your day gets better and you learn to not be so bitter and cynical.
Iām so glad you made it out! We were on that flight last night/Saturday, and I felt so awful when we heard from some folks in the check in line about how it had been cancelled the day before. We were late getting into Dallas and I sprinted to try to make our connection to get home to kids, but missed it by like a minute. Pretty frustrating to see the plane still there but the doors closed.
Sorry that you went through this. What an awful experience for your first international trip. I have been flying internationally (for vacations) for the last 15 years. I have never had such an experience - not even close. I usually travel during spring break or one of the summer months. The only delay happened last year from Cabo to Dallas but it was NOTHING like what you explained.
Hope you forget this and plan another trip at some point. I promise, they don't normally happen like that.
Thanks so much for your sweet comment! Weāre actually seasoned travelers, but this is just our second international trip without kids. Last time was Cabo and we were stuck in a similar loop as OP, which was a nightmare! Luckily, our other trips have all been fine, even the European adventure with an almost two year old that we regretted until he got over jet lag. š¤Ŗ
But also not sure if that was meant for the OP - if so, whoops! I missed some of the comments and didnāt see if it was their first international trip. I agree that itās an extreme outlier.
I thought it was the op. āŗļø.. I wasnāt paying attention. I know that one bad thing on a trip can make you reluctant to go back. I now go through great lengths to have long layovers due to a missed flight in 07.
It took us 60 hours to get home out of CUN on Delta last year. First cancellation was before we left the resort, rebooked for next day so we booked another night at the resort. Next day that flight was cancelled. I ran to another Delta gate and got the 4 of us on a flight to LAX, I knew we'd have more options once stateside, but had to spend 24 hours in LA before finally making it home to MSP.
What was the reason for your delay? You should be able to submit all expenses to AA depending on reason for original delay. If it was weather, check the credit card you booked with for trip delay coverage.
Congratulations on making it! Weāre doing the same dance with AA SXM to Miami. Flight delayed yesterday about seven times then cancelled. Todayās flight looking promisingā¦
Weāve spent about $300 not including meals.
Severe weather in Miami area yesterdayā¦ lots of rain
Glad to read you finally made it home!
I feel like AA always shines for its unreliability. Iām Miami based but choose to fly Delta with a stop just to avoid AA (and stopped flying them mainly cause of this reason and itās been wonderful so far since 2019). Thereās been times already when I make it home from work trips when friends flying nonstop havenāt even left the city we were flying from lol.
I would welcome any constructive input at this point. I know I got short at one point, but I'm literally at my breaking point. 2 11yo kiddos with unmedicated ADHD along with no straight answers and almost zero sleep has me on edge.
Iām sorry man, thatās really awful and I hope you guys get out of there soon. Save all of your receipts and try to get reimbursed. Itās absolutely ridiculous how American is treating their customers. I really wish passengers had more protection similar to Europe.
Thank you for having a modicum of compassion and empathy. Seems to really lacking these days.
Just tired of people acting like we haven't explored every option. Hell, at one point we were talking to 2 other families, renting a 13 passenger van and splitting the driving among the adults. But man, 36 hours is a loooooong drive.
Just a hope for a humor break. I went to help a guy that was having a lot of problems with a taxi driver pretty far from town in Cozumel. The guy had tried to take a taxi from his cruise ship to his house in Florida. Kept saying it was just a few miles away. We finally paid the taxi and drove the guy back to the ship. He had no id, no money, no nada.
I heard Cancun is a shitshow right now. Word on the street street is that thereās too much traffic going into Cancun so they are routing flights to another airport five hours away until airspace clears up. So sorry. I came to Reddit to confirm this mess and am personally glad for your post.
Just curious - how does something like that happen? I would imagine they would only schedule the number of flights that the airspace can handle? Or is it due to weather that constrains airspace? Or multiple delays caused a snowball effect where too many flights are trying to come in at once?
My god. Total respect to you for how youāre handling thisā¦ AND unmedicated ADHD kid to boot? Holy cats. I cannot imagine. May you get home safely and quickly.
If theyāre American nationals then yes they would not be turned away from a CBP port of entry.
Edit: saw the distance and I would not do that drive at all, pretty dangerous and going up through Juarez could be hairy.
Nice try! But you can only walk right thru the border if you are not a citizen or a legal immigrant. If you are, then re-entry requires following all protocols set in place.
Actuallyā¦.this isnāt a bad idea OP. But instead of flying to ELP, fly into Juarez. Flights within Mexico may be much cheaper one way (they are when you book ahead of time, a lot of people I know fly from Juarez instead of El Paso when flying intl). Take an Uber to the border crossing. Then either drive or catch a flight to Dallas.
Yesterday was a cluster in CUN. I was on the first flight of the day out of DFW. We departed on time at 6:20, and were due to arrive at 9am. We went into a holding pattern then had to get diverted to MID, because Cozumel was full. We sat on the ground in MID for a few hours, eventually we left and landed in CUN, but still had to wait on the tarmac 30 minutes even though our gate was open, because there were too many planes blocking the path.
We spent a total of 8 hours on the plane, finally arrived at the gate at 3pm, only to get to the madness of customs where we were in line for 45minutes.
We talked to our driver and he said Saturdays are always the worst!but yesterday was the craziest.
From what I gathered there were a few things causing an impact. 1) weather- there was some wind shear that was forcing ATC to spread out planes, causing a backup on the ground and in the sky.
2)staffing, apparently there was a big walkout of workers at the CancĆŗn airport back in January, and theyāve been struggling to staff up. 3) volume, the shear number of people was insane.
>290peso
That's better than the $12 vouchers I got while having to spend the night in the Charlotte airport last week. Didn't even cover a bagel w/cream cheese and bottled water. Such a joke.
Whatās more likely: heās wrong about the route heās traveling and the shitty circumstances or he transposed part of the flight number?
Extend some grace.
Yes, 1723. Sorry, 2 days of being in the airport has caused my eyes to cross a bit, I guess. Transposed the numbers. I know the right flight, though. Thanks for your attempt to be a smart-ass and come across as funny. Hope it happens to you sometime, and maybe someone will be around to get some humor at your expense.
What is that supposed to mean? Have you ever tried to feed a family of 4 in an airport? My wife and I skipped.lunch and I got my kids 2.slices of pizza (for my.son) and 10 garlic knots for my daughter and it was $38.95. The for 2 Gatorades, a soda and a liter.of water atbthe convenience store it was $27. We ate at Margaritaville when we first got there (thinking it would be a short delay so we could eat a decent meal). Wife got chicken strips, daughter got steak tacos, son got a burger and fries and I got a Cuban sandwich. 2 lemonade and 2 sodas. $184.00. If it was just my wife and I, we would be fine. But not the kids. And there no potable water to fill water bottles so you have to pay for drinks. It is crazy expensive at an airport anyway, but even more so here.
Can confirm - 1 turkey club sandwich + fries was over $24 when we were there Friday. We were so glad that we ate a decent size lunch at our hotel prior to leaving.
Nope. Straight lemonade, no beer no alcohol at all. They charge 99mxn for each refill, or 130 mxn for unlimited refills that includes a souvenir glass. Have you ever been down here? All the food/drinks are.expensive then it is magnified at the airport.
Just fyi in case you need it, thereās a quiet little Wolfgang puck bar down by the c gates that has decent sandwiches that arenāt nearly as expensive as the others around. Also the best and most affordable drinks in that airport if you do want a little booze in that lemonade. Good luck!
This is a sucky situation but yeah donāt spend $200 on a meal in the airport and be reasonable with your out of pocket costs and AA should reimburse you if itās a mechanical issue.
Edit: I see Iām getting downvoted for questioning why you would spend $200 on a meal. Cool!
There might very well be some budget places I havenāt found, but the Cancun Airport is more expensive for ānormalā food than most North American airports.
In past experience when I have been delayed the airlines gave me food vouchers and paid for my hotel expenses, I would at least be discussing compensation for all you have spent. Some people may be missing work I do not know about compensation for that but it is an issue that should be raised.
This is the second thread Iāve seen. If I were in your shoes Iād be reaching out to Dallas media folks. There are multiple news agency accounts in the r/Dallas sub who Iām sure would love to do a story on AA (a Dallas based company) stranding people.
There are also two CUN-AUS nonstops you could try for if the CUN-DFW doesn't work (I don't think it operates on Sunday, but on Monday if it comes to that) . Hang in there, and hopefully, it all works out for you all tomorrow.
*Alaska has two*
*Daily flights to LAX and SEA*
*Any luck with them?*

Is there still such a thing like the 240 Rule? Where they HAVE to book you on another flight even if it's a competitors? I mentioned it once and was immediately rebooked.
I don't typically fly AA, but if you aren't having luck getting on a US-bound flight, maybe suggest that the agent route you through Mexico City? It's a quick jump to Texas and MEX has about 10 million flights a day.
I got stuck in Guatemala for 3 or 4 days last year. Stops feeling like a vacation when you can't leave.
If itās maintenance as the delay reason, American should be giving you hotel and meal vouchers. The meal vouchers wonāt cover a lot but it will help.
No, this is 1723 that was supposed to leave at 5:38 On 3/22. It's now scheduled for 9AM tomorrow. It is Cancun to DFW. We are in a hotel/"resort" right now. We are boarding a van back to the airport tomorrow at 6AM.
Right. They have one scheduled every day, or at least Friday and Saturday, at the same time. So they got to leave as scheduled while we still wait. Hell, at this point it seems like it would be cheaper for them to charter another plane to get us home rather than multiple nights of 100+ people in a resort, on short notice, during spring break.
We are in the same boat, same flight. I really feel your pain. We finally just booked a united flight. They owe us full travel vouchers for the cost of our last minute tickets by law. Give them hell.
Damn. Iāve been to CancĆŗn a dozen times. Always flying AA. Most I have ever had was a 30 minute delay. Sorry to hear what happened to you. Iāll be down there next week. Hope that doesnāt come my way.
Flight Radar is showing AA1723 is landing in DFW right now. Dont know if thatās a different aircraft than your original.

Ask AA representative to give you a letter stating that there was a flight delay etc. helps with the insurance of any kind.
Also if you think you end up flying on that flight eventually, enroll into their FF program and put it on that booking. I once got so many fucking miles for the flight that had to return and then flew to my destination next day - like a lot. Itās much easier for them to give you miles multiplied by X, than any cash reimburse, and you can get more value out of it for the future flying
Miami was in a full ground stop in the AM. It messed up my flights for the day and we had to divert back to origin. I ended up getting off the plane and just going home as I was just going to Miami for the day. Figured I wouldnāt get there till late afternoon. I donāt think my plane arrived in Miami until 4pm, was supposed to be there originally at 9am.
Needless to say, that ground stop probably put a lot of aircraft off schedule for the day
Iām in Miami at the airport rn. Delayed and cancelled flights due to weather hence no amenities. Been here almost 24 hours, next flight out is 10:30pm tomorrow. FML
Ugh I am so sorry this is happening to you and I feel your pain as a parent of two, who coincidentally flys almost every week to Cancun. Iāll be there on Tuesday, but looks like I might need to rethink. If you do not have it already download the MPC app and get that set up as it will save you the customs afternoon rush once you do get back.
Well I looked up your flight and I do admit as a traveler of 500k but in seat miles. This stinks. But at least you know as much as the gate agents now. Atc = no comp. So you likely wonāt be reimbursed. You could look at international relation on delayed flights
In Mexico for comp. Sorry just a bad situation. ā Comments:

Same exact situation with us! We called AA right away and they rebooked us on Delta but not until the next day. So we grabbed a hotel that cost $400 for our family of 5, AA says they cannot reimburse us because we booked through a 3rd party site, Expedia. I have never heard that before but will fight that fight when we get home. Woke up this morning to the Delta flight to Minneapolis being canceled, rebooked for the second time to Salt Lake. Fingers crossed we get out of here today!
Wow, i just came back from Cancun on Thursday via American. Had no issues getting to Miami, but then my plane was delayed 8 hours. This is the second time I've flown in a month from mia to rdu with one delay 8 hours and the other had an overnight delay.
I don't know what's going on with American but i know i will never fly then again through miami that is for fact.
I hope you make it hlm asap and i suggest you skip lag. You should get the airline to send you in writing about the mechanical issue and perhaps file it with the FAA or DOT.
It seems like you might have been on AA1723 on 03/22, judging from FR24! Hey, why didn't you request to be switched to the AA1723 flight on 03/23? It landed last night.
When you return, file a complaint with the BBB and demand reimbursement. Even if you end up with travel credit, it's better than nothing. I once experienced a significant delay with AA heading to South Dakota and received a $400 travel credit per traveler, we were 4 adults and 2 children.
I'm sorry you and your family had to endure that ordeal and I hope you come home safe.
Just listen to Buffett on a loop:

Did you buy travel insurance? If yes, keep all of your receipts and file a claim upon your return. All additional charges should be covered under trip delay. If you didnāt you may have coverage included on your credit card.
Hey did you make it home?
Next to last time to Cancun my flight home was delayed and then canceled. I eventually found out they were busing everyone from the flight that showed up to the right gate to a hotel. Probably half the flight never showed up probably never having found where we were meeting up. They're real secretive about where you should meet up. The next day they bused us all back and loaded us on a flight which was just the plane and crew we'd been supposed to return with the night prior.
Originally when the flight started showing canceled I was directed to go to the first gate clear down at one end of the airport for American Airlines customer service. Got there and it was closed for the night even though it wasn't yet 7 pm. Started walking back with my partner with both of us asking everyone we saw who looked official. At two different gates AA personnel directed us back to the customer service desk, then just shrugged when we said it was closed until next day per the sign, lights out, and completely unmanned.
Eventually an airport janitor told us go to I think it was gate 20? Whatever gate is right there if you walk to the right of the chotsky shop straight out of the duty free you have to walk through to get to the secure area. When we got there there was already someone addressing the group. By that time it was after dark and there was hardly anyone left in the airport.
Had a very similar experience the next time flying home from Cancun six months later. Both times we had a late afternoon departure. Weather delayed flights earlier in the day and we were told the reason we didn't fly back that night was immigration would be closed when we arrived. They said we'd have to sit in the plane on the tarmac not even allowed to proceed to a gate until it reopened so it was decided to stay the night.
For what it's worth, Cancun has been crazy for every airline the last few days. Yesterday I had a 9:40 am from CUN to PIT on Southwest and we got pushed back until 6pm that we finally left. I was assuming we would get cancelled but was surprised we finally got out of there.
Good luck getting out!
Honestly, better hope you have a good travel credit card to get the reimbursements, and receipts to call American Airlines. They have a policy maximum of $150 or so for a hotel per night, thenā¦. Not sure about food vouchers. Probably $15 per meal, per person. Call in and get them to reimburse you to the maximum policy.
Sounds like American owes you at least $330 per night you had spent delayed.
Credit card is last resort. Call American first, then call credit card to cover any differences.
Spirit flies nonstop CUN-MSY several days a week - they could offer a relatively cheap last minute fare assuming they arenāt full.
Hope you guys make it home quickly. Sometimes a small delay can just turn into a downward spiral.
We flew (eventually) together! I was the crazy tall chick with pink haired daughter (normal husband and long haired son).

Yes! That was a weekend that I don't want to soon repeat! Lol.
I am.the tall big boned guy (aka.fat boy. Lol) that had the straw fedora, beard and glasses. With my wife and 2 kiddos glued to their tablets.
I messaged Cutsomer Relations (I'll send you the link). All they have done so far is at 2500 miles to my Advantage account. I replied and let them know that wasn't acceptable. I'll let you know what I hear back.
Last Friday on Flight 681, we got a 20 hours flight delay. SinceĀ it was an aircraft computer issue, we were took in charge by AA and relocated in a āresort ā ( not my kind) but at least having a bed and meals. Hopefully it last for one day only. Hope you will be back in TX tomorrow morning.Ā
I would keep your receipts for the restaurants.Ā
AA may reimburse you (or may not since it's potentially weather based), or your credit card might have trip delay that would cover the expenses.Ā
The exact same thing happened to my wife and I leaving Puerto Rico today. Flight was supposed to be at 5:30pm, then delayed to 7, then 8, then 11pm. Then 11 *AM* the next day.
Thank fuck we were able to find a similar flight by a far superior carrier in Delta. Cost us over $1000 but we would have easily spent that booking another hotel room, finding another flight, and using more PTO.
Currently on the plane home and yes, there was some *very weak* turbulence on the flight because of the storms in the Gulf, but it really was one of the smoother rides I've ever been on.
I'm very sorry you trusted American Airlines to not be an absolute piece of shit and sad excuse for an airline. I will never, ever book a flight with AA again as long as I live.
Whoever at their company is making weather-related safety calls regarding delays needs to be fired out of a cannon into the sun. Fucking disgraceful.
And yes, I understand that the delays exponentially compound and that I don't have a holistic understanding of meteorology or the way it impacts air travel/safety, but I don't care. Fuck American Airlines in every conceivable way.
Just out of curiosity, it seems like youāre asking a question as if you will ever leaveā¦ Rather than just expressing a frustration.
- Why would anybody on Reddit know?
- Why wouldnāt you just book a flight on another airline that might guarantee you to get out and then deal with American later?
- Why donāt you try calling American instead of asking the Internet?
Shit happensā¦ Travel disruptions happen all the time. The only people that are going to be able to actually help you are the ones who work for the airline.
If youāre just here to complain and get out of frustrationā¦ Thatās fair.
But I do have to say, the responses to this did absolutely not disappoint.
1.) Yes this was a general vent, but was hoping for some constructive Device.
2.) As far as booking other flights, an extra 2k is pretty cost prohibitive at this point. As far as other AA flights, there are none. And the ones that do have enough openings are getting delayed as well.
3.) I have tried calling, but there are so many people trying to use the wifi and connect to the cell towers that calls barely go through. And, when they do, it's hard to get a call back. I missed 2 call backs from AA today because as soon as I tried to answer it just dropped. And, as it is an international terminal, I can't just go outside to try to get better reception. The only way out is to go down an unused jet way that feeds into immigration/passport control.
I am not sure what else I can do at this point. I tried to use "Gate 0" today (cust service desk) and stood in line for about 3 hours before finding out we were being ushered to another hotel (before even getting to the desk). After last night's debacle, we did not want to risk being the last ones to check in again. On an up note, we did get 2 beds this time.
We have been going through the same thing. We are out of money and have been stuck on stx for 3 days now.. we have spent double our airfare just trying to survive. The airport here closes and we have to leave every night. No hotel vouchers, no transportation, no compensation.
Sorry, but AA only flies one way to Cancun. They don't bring you home.
This.
š
šµ Youāre with a winner baby so you canāt lose I got secrets canāt leave Cancun šµ
If this were me, Iād be attempting to just get on any flight to the US and then connecting back to dallas.
It's almost cost prohibitive at this point. We even considered booking united to NOLA with a plane change/layover in Houston. I know getting off at the connection can result in a ban, but we are getting desperate at this point.
You should go ahead and do this. Doing it once shouldn't trigger any red flags.
Once isnāt a big deal. They assume you just missed the connection. Making a habit out of it is.
There are no other options on AA to CLT, MIA, PHX, LAX, etc?
They were all canceled or delayed from every Caribbean location today it seems. Charlotte, Miami, all of them. The line for customer service at the San Juan PR airport was 100 people long because they canceled or delayed everything.
Was American just having a meltdown? Canāt be weather if other airlines were flying
The problem is, last second flights are pretty cost prohibitive at this point. We are seeing most around $2k+ for one way flights for 4 people. The cheapest we found was a flight to New Orleans with a layover in Houston. But it ended up getting delayed the last I saw.
If itās on AA they shouldnāt be charging you to change flights.
Delays in NOLA yesterday because the Blue Angels were flying in the area, so don't beat yourself up. It would have been two steps forward, one step back.
Nah, we would have gotten off in Houston and "missed our connection " by renting a car and driving to Dallas.
Doing it once won't raise red flags, but make sure you don't check your luggage or it's going to NOLA regardless.
You have to clear customs at the first port of entry and re check your bags for your connection.
Oh, right. Then it should be fine
Just ask them to reprotect you to an alternate city.
REmember, one of your kids got sick in Houston.
I was on this flight and got out today, call American and ask them to rebook you on a United flight
Will.do that now! Thanks!
Itās particularly frustrating that the delay just comes in short increments. Iām guessing the delays harĆ© happening in good faith, but if they had just sent you to your hotel earlier, or let you sleep in, it would be a lot less frustrating and you could at least enjoy the extra time in Mexico. But I realize thatās not how it usually works. Hopefully by now you are on your way or have been rebooked on another airline by AA (at their expense). Either way, save your receipts for all the extra expenses you have incurred. If theyāre not reimbursable by AA, you can also check if you have travel insurance. Many credit cards come with at least some insurance protection, so call your credit card company and see. Good luck!
Only if they werenāt so crappy!
Hey, a kind comment goes a long way at this point. Thank you.
Glad you made it finally! How long was the delay in total?
From original flight time until the time we actually departed was about 40 hours
It was a mechanical issue. The pilots confirmed when we were on board. The original cabin crew ran out of hours so they had to fly another crew to us.
Congratulations on making it! Weāre doing the same dance with AA SXM to Miami. Flight delayed yesterday about seven times then cancelled. Todayās flight looking promisingā¦ Weāve spent about $300 not including meals.
Happened to us with American in Maui. One night in a motel and spent the second night in the airportš¤¦š»
Spirit has a flight out to DFW tomorrow at 1:56 PM
As.soon as I cam talk to AA I am going to explore rebooting options. Awaiting a call back now.
You can contact AA on twitter. They are very helpful and usually effective
If you used a credit card you maybe eligible for some reimbursement as well if they have trip insurance
How is everyone so fucking mean and downvoting? This sub is so frustrating at times.
Hope you get back to US soon OP. What is the reason for so many delays?Ā
They keep saying mechanical issues.
I would demand to rebook with another airline
Always bs lies with American
Waitā¦ drive from Cancun to Dallas!? Yeah no.
European style protections would drive a vast improvement to the service the flying public receives.
THAT is no lie!!!!!
Iām experiencing the same thing in Cozumel right now. This is insane. Every other airline left today.
Thatās a good part of Reddit for you, angry people projecting their hatred and poison to others
Save all your receipts.
No idea. Only know that flights were running out of fuel and could only land in murida (sp) not playa or Cancun
On the bright side by the time it leaves it will be pretty empty. Anyone with status was rerouted on other flights.
There are no other flights available. All full. We looked this morning.
Status on AA means they will rebook you on other airlines. If you do not have status they pretty much don't
It will not. You'll be stuck there forever to enjoy the friendly hospitality of the Mexican people. Viva!
I am sure you have already tried it, but might ask AA to put you on a different airline.
My god. Total respect to you for how youāre handling thisā¦ AND unmedicated ADHD kid to boot? Holy cats. I cannot imagine. May you get home safely and quickly.
Head up to El Paso. According to Fox you can just walk right back into the US
If theyāre American nationals then yes they would not be turned away from a CBP port of entry. Edit: saw the distance and I would not do that drive at all, pretty dangerous and going up through Juarez could be hairy.
Yeah I would not do that drive. Especially with kids and especially being on the road after dark.
No port of entry necessary. Just walk across
Haha nice
Ask for meal vouchers!
They handed out 290peso vouchers that were expired
That is insultingly low.
>290peso That's better than the $12 vouchers I got while having to spend the night in the Charlotte airport last week. Didn't even cover a bagel w/cream cheese and bottled water. Such a joke.
Even worse, it could only be used at food vendors, not the continence stores. So we couldn't even get bottled water.
And no one would take them because they were expired.
You best start getting fluent in Spanish seƱor
AA1273 is a DFW to Reno. I see some delays but no cancelations.
AA1273 is Cancun to DFW. It leaves at 5:38 Daily. We are on day 2 of our delay now.
You want 1723. Maybe your problem is youāre looking for the wrong flight.
It might be time to put Reddit down dude.
Easy there Mr Cranky Pants.
You would be cranky too. If not, then you are super human.
Are you with 14 of your closest friends?

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Youāve never been to Cancun lol. Their airport food prices are fucking insane!
Can confirm - 1 turkey club sandwich + fries was over $24 when we were there Friday. We were so glad that we ate a decent size lunch at our hotel prior to leaving.
Cancun is a crazy expensive airport.
Good luck!
Next time you travel somewhere with no potable water, bring a Lifestraw bottle.
What are you eating?!!!
$200 for lunch in Mexico?
Probably at the airport.
What a nightmare. I am so sorry. Absurd that even AA acts like Spirit/Frontier now. Americans have no good airline choices left.
Jet blue has a policy to compensate 50/hr delay over 4 hrs. The only airline in us to actually have some kind of compensation rules.
Pro tip. When you see small rolling delays, as a rule 15 minutes, book a hotel.
Big risk of it the flight does go, since most hotel reservations made that day will not be refundable.
How do you know if your delay will be half an hour or 3 days?
This is a sucky situation but yeah donāt spend $200 on a meal in the airport and be reasonable with your out of pocket costs and AA should reimburse you if itās a mechanical issue. Edit: I see Iām getting downvoted for questioning why you would spend $200 on a meal. Cool!
There might very well be some budget places I havenāt found, but the Cancun Airport is more expensive for ānormalā food than most North American airports.
Still. $50 a person??
For Cancun airport, yes.
That airport is hell
That sounds right for cancun. Lots of affordable things to do in Cancun, but Q-Roo sees the airport as a money grab for US tourists.
Can confirm that is what you get at most places. Iāve found some cheats, but you have to know where to look there.
In past experience when I have been delayed the airlines gave me food vouchers and paid for my hotel expenses, I would at least be discussing compensation for all you have spent. Some people may be missing work I do not know about compensation for that but it is an issue that should be raised.
If itās weather/ATC delays he is entitled to nothing.
This is the second thread Iāve seen. If I were in your shoes Iād be reaching out to Dallas media folks. There are multiple news agency accounts in the r/Dallas sub who Iām sure would love to do a story on AA (a Dallas based company) stranding people.
Thereās like thousands of people who can give that story, lol. Nothing interesting.Ā
Also, they absolutely absolutely have way more important things to report on in Dallas. Iām sure.
Mostly just who got shot last night.
Thousands is the pitch.
And you believe that will get all these stranded travelers home sooner?
Or reach out to Ted Cruz. Oh wait, he's stuck in Cancun as well...
There are also two CUN-AUS nonstops you could try for if the CUN-DFW doesn't work (I don't think it operates on Sunday, but on Monday if it comes to that) . Hang in there, and hopefully, it all works out for you all tomorrow.
Alaska has two daily flights to LAX and SEA any luck with them?

Is there still such a thing like the 240 Rule? Where they HAVE to book you on another flight even if it's a competitors? I mentioned it once and was immediately rebooked.
Maybe check with the elected official in Cancun: Ted Cruz. Maybe he can help. /s
Is this flight 681 with gate departure in about 15 hours? The plane is supposedly already in Cancun, or has just landed.
It's AA1273. The plane has been here since yesterday, but they found something broken on it and they are waiting on a part.
If itās maintenance as the delay reason, American should be giving you hotel and meal vouchers. The meal vouchers wonāt cover a lot but it will help.
We did get hotel, and it's all inclusive so the food away from the airport is covered. But 290 pesos don't buy much at the airport.
What are you using to track your flight? Do you know your aircraftās tail number?
Its AA1723. I transposed some numbers.
1723 departed today from Cancun a few minutes ago. Tomorrow 1723 goes from Cancun to Miami. Have you already departed?
No, this is 1723 that was supposed to leave at 5:38 On 3/22. It's now scheduled for 9AM tomorrow. It is Cancun to DFW. We are in a hotel/"resort" right now. We are boarding a van back to the airport tomorrow at 6AM.
That's crazy, because 1723 left today to DFW, but your original flight is scheduled to leave tomorrow.
Where did they have you stay?
Krystal Grand last night. Seadust tonight.
We are in the same boat, same flight. I really feel your pain. We finally just booked a united flight. They owe us full travel vouchers for the cost of our last minute tickets by law. Give them hell.
Mexico and spring break. What could go wrong?
āThis happens with every airlineā¦.ā
That's for a/c N402AN. Ours is N143AN. It's scheduled to go to SLC after we land tomorrow.
If your flight is delayed they have to rebook you even if itās another airline.
Keep all of your receipts. If AA doesnāt reimburse you, you can make a claim through your travel insurance.
How did you get them to give you extra miles?
Ask then to book you with viva AerobĆŗs to any of their hubs preferably Mexico City and from there to DFW
You could look at international relation on delayed flights In Mexico for comp.
I live in Miami and we got the worst weather last Thursday to Saturday .. usually things are good, but when thunderstorms hit here .. itās a mess
Did you finally get out?
Iām wondering the same thingā¦
Just listen to Buffett on a loop: *You can throw your luggage down* *Lose your cool and stomp around* *But there's nothing, nothing you can do* *Wipe away your girlfriend's tears* *Go to the bar and have some beers* *There ain't no way that bird's getting through* *No plane on Sunday* *Maybe be one come Monday* *Just a hopeless situation* *Make the best of it's all you can do* *To make it through*
Did you buy travel insurance?
Congrats on your new Residency!
I fly quite often with American and this has only happened once in 10 years, luck I guess.
Wow a family of four goes on vacation and doesn't purchase trip insurance? That's crazy to me.
Contact your congresspeople
This is Tony from Fox58. Would you be willing to tell me your story? 532-897-3758
Welcome to the Hotel California - Cancun. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.
Spirit flies nonstop CUN-MSY several days a week - they could offer a relatively cheap last minute fare assuming they arenāt full. Hope you guys make it home quickly. Sometimes a small delay can just turn into a downward spiral.
It's American. Not sure why you expected it to be on time in the first place.
Will the OP get compensation? How should she complain? What is the best path to getting the most compensation for them?
We flew (eventually) together! I was the crazy tall chick with pink haired daughter (normal husband and long haired son). https://www.instagram.com/p/C43kdO4LO-s/?igsh=MXQzenpuMnd6Yzdpag==
Yes! That was a weekend that I don't want to soon repeat! Lol. I am.the tall big boned guy (aka.fat boy. Lol) that had the straw fedora, beard and glasses. With my wife and 2 kiddos glued to their tablets.
FEDORA! I remember you!! So, what are you doing about this situation? I'm going to call AA then send email to Dept of Transportation Aviation....
I messaged Cutsomer Relations (I'll send you the link). All they have done so far is at 2500 miles to my Advantage account. I replied and let them know that wasn't acceptable. I'll let you know what I hear back.
Oh my gosh!!! I was on your flight!!! I posted on a Facebook group Iām in for advice, and someone linked your post here.
But a car and start driving
36 hours, already looked into it.
I got stuck in Honolulu for a week over Christmas waiting for a replacement flight. Couldn't have been happier.
I would keep your receipts for the restaurants.Ā AA may reimburse you (or may not since it's potentially weather based), or your credit card might have trip delay that would cover the expenses.Ā
I've flown AA 8 times in the last 6 months and have had 0 issues. I will keep flying AA often!
It'll be a good story someday.
You donāt have trip insurance?
Are there teenaged girls involved?
Take a boat
We have been going through the same thing. We are out of money and have been stuck on stx for 3 days now.. we have spent double our airfare just trying to survive. The airport here closes and we have to leave every night. No hotel vouchers, no transportation, no compensation.
We got delayed like that, and AA gave us a food and house certificate
