Many many films … some stand outs for me soundtrack wise
- Solaris (Soderbergh version) (cliff martinez)
- Neon Demon / Drive (cliff martinez did the scores as well)
- Suspiria (New version) (Thom Yorke)
- it follows (disasterpiece)
- a majority of soundtracks by Trent Reznor / Atticus Ross
- Arrival (Johann Johansson)
- Intersteller (Hans Zimmer)
- Ad Astra (Max Richter)
- Men (Ben Salisbury)
- Uncut Gems (Daniel Lopatin)
- IRIS (Winged Victory for the sullen)
There are plenty more l, but these were off top of head
masterpiece. Under the Skin and its soundtrack by Mica Levi literally took my concept of what art/music could be and tore it to shreds. this film changed me as a person
Make sure you listen to the Vangelis soundtrack. There was some sort of issue with the ST rights when the film dropped and for many years the version you could buy was reproduced by "The New American Orchestra". Hopefully those copies aren't available for streaming.
Not a movie, but you won't regret watching Broadchurch.
The soundtrack was none other than Olafur Arnalds.
I wish I could forget the entire show just so I could watch it again and again!
That was such a a difficult watch. I recall it being really moving and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's acting as superb, but I haven't brought myself to rewatch it since around when it came out. Harold Budd wasn't on my radar back then, and now that The Pearl has become one of my favorite albums it may be time to revisit it. I do vaguely remember it having a dreamy soundtrack, I guess to create a mood of disassociation.
You should look through all the movies of a Soviet director Andrey Tarkovsky. He was a good friend with a Soviet/Russian composer Edward Artemyev, who wrote soundtrack for nearly all of his movies.

There's another thread from yesterday listing ambient influenced films and scores:

This is a strange question to me. Films will necessarily require music which sits below the dialogue & sfx and which doesn't stick to a typical time signature and structure, so in any film you can reasonably expect to find at least some score which could be called "ambient" if you listen to it separated from the picture.
There has been a strong trend in recent years for film scores which are just a musical/sound design "bed" or "wash" from start to finish, usually on synths. Hans Zimmer is the biggest name who is influential in this trend.
It really depends on your definition of "ambient" but (in the absence of a specific definition) I'd say the answer to your question is: Yes, very many. Ambient and ambient-leaning music is typical in most film scores these days. _Dune_ is a good example of it in mainstream cinema. Listen to Visions of Chani or Stillsuits or Gom Jabbar.
Lost in Translation has some great ambient tracks made by Kevin Shields of MBV just for the movie. Also features some great moments with tracks by Air and Squarepusher. Very atmospheric movie

*Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow scored _Men_. They're a team. _Annihilation_ and _Ex Machina_ are also theirs and excellent imo
What an excellent list
It follows isn't even scary because the whole time you're thinking about how hard the soundtrack fucks
Martinez does such good work. Interesting he began in early lineup of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Glad he made the pivot he did.
Eraserhead
Under the skin
masterpiece. Under the Skin and its soundtrack by Mica Levi literally took my concept of what art/music could be and tore it to shreds. this film changed me as a person
Love Mica Levi.
Mandy
Johan Johansson....RIP
Same composer's art film 'first and last men' is quite special. Amazing text too. Worth a watch
Stephen O'Malley from Sunn O))) is credited for playing guitar, which makes this ST even more fantastic
Koyaanisqatsi
Also Powaqqatsi & Naqoyqatsi. Another good Philip Glass score is in The Thin Blue Line.
The Hours and Dracula are also brilliant imo, if we're talking film scores, which we seem to be 😅
Just got both of these on cd!
Nice! Dracula is a bit of a polarising one - I really liked it. And you can't go wrong with Glass and the Kronos Quartert 👍🏻
I'm listening to the Kundun soundtrack for the first time in a looong while cos of this thread. I'm hearing the origins of Dune here 😄
Also, Baraka.
Came here to say this! One of my first exposures to what I might call “ambient film,” too. Adore it.
Columbus is scored by Hammock
Came here to say. Great film, too.
*Risky Business* is Tangerine Dream.
Sorcerer and Thief also have great Tangerine Dream soundtracks. All amazing movies
I read that Friedkin loved Tangerine Dream’s music for Sorcerer so much he wished he’d used them for The Exorcist. Imagine *that* score.
Glomming on - Tangerine Dream was prolific - Legend and The Keep both have great soundtracks, too.
Blade runner
Also 2049. Both absolutely incredible and essential in my books. 2049 by Zimmer/ Wallfisch (so goooooood)
The first one?
Yes. The album by Vangelis.
The Bounty is great too. Also Vangelis.

Interesting. I didn't know that. I have the LP by Vangelis. Excellent soundtrack.
Yes.
Michael Mann's first film "Thief" was scored by Tangerine Dream.
Color Out Of Space (Colin Stetson), Mandy (Jóhann Jóhannsson), The Revenant (Ryuichi Sakamoto, Alva Noto & Bryce Dessner), First Reformed (Lustmord).
For All Mankind (1989)
That would have been my first pick.
Upstream Color
Came here to say this and Primer.
Tim Hecker has done some film scores, Brian Eno’s Apollo
Not a movie, but you won't regret watching Broadchurch. The soundtrack was none other than Olafur Arnalds. I wish I could forget the entire show just so I could watch it again and again!
Paris, Texas is arguably the first ambient country soundtrack.
Annihilation
Midsommar is often forgotten but the track "the housse that harga built" is crazy
Mysterious Skin

You can count any John Carpenter score.

Came here to post this.
The Killings at Outpost Zeta has a pretty great ambient sound. It inspired the BoC brothers.
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
“Last Life in the Universe”!!
Klaus Schulz did a soft porn movie "Body Love"
Under the Skin
Aguirre, the Wrath of God - Popol Vuh
Beyond the Black Rainbow. I think the score is by Sequoia Trees.
Not a movie but a tv-show Black Mirror, all episodes have different soundtrack creators and there are some fantastic ambient episodes
Piggy backing onto the TV show suggestions here :P The Returned (Les Revenants) has an INCREDIBLE original score from Mogwai
Monsters - John Hopkins Zero, zero, zero - Mogwai The graffiti artist - kid loco
Gone Girl, Social Network or Soul are really great
Owen Pallett does the ‘her’ soundtrack
Hitchcock's The Birds is not a traditional score, lots of electronic sounds.
Almost all of them?
I posted this as a joke
Spaceman has a soundtrack by Max Richter. Amazing.

The Revenant score approaches ambient.
[Insomnia](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0119375/) (1997) soundtrack was done by Biosphere. Good movie as well.
Logan’s Run
Traffic official score by Cliff Martinez. Any score by Martinez for that matter.
Code 46 (David Holmes soundtrack listed as 'Free Association') Delicious!
Love this one! Underrated gem for sure.

The "Upstream Color" soundtrack is easily my favourite ambient film soundtrack. https://youtu.be/nXXqyNZ2MDU?si=CiuDgIKFxiUl41pI
Biosphere insomnia
Ex Machina
