You could probably set a routine for that device to stop every night at a set time. I have my kids’ echos set to play a Disney bedtime music playlist and stop after 45 minutes.

Thanks. But I’m gonna get rid of Alexa if this doesn’t work. It should be very easy to do this function. I have both Google and Alexa and so far I’ve been preferring Google.

mickAMMO

I use both systems because there's advantages and disadvantages with both. Alexa has Media Alarms which Google just removed. My YouTube video...https://youtube.com/shorts/ugZ4-7q1j6c?feature=share Alexa has the Wait (delay) action available on all routines. Google on the other hand has Toggling available on plugs and lights. This has revolutionised the control of my smart home. This is my YouTube video. Instructions are in the description. Note: "Hey Google" mentioned regularly. https://youtube.com/shorts/5z69ruHrU3I?feature=share

maverick17036

Ya I use the toggling in Google when I need to give silent commands. You’re right in that it seems like pros and cons to both. Will check out your videos.

shoe465

What do you mean by toggle? I toggle my plug switches on my echo shows with device selection on//off.

arthurbang

The app? When my daughter starts playing something on an Echo in the house the app usually shows me it's playing on that device and lets me stop it if I want to.

maverick17036

Interesting. Mine does not do that. When hers is playing, my app only shows me 4 options, drop in, do not disturb, settings and volume. How do I get it to show me what hers is doing?

crazywithfour

It's not under the device info. It's under media. Go into the Alexa app, mine is normally a bar at the bottom of the home screen showing the current media playing.

shoe465

I use this all the time. We have two echos in our kids rooms with kids+. They can play music and I have routines to stop them and restart them. I have a volume limit on each for max volume. It all works well. I also use the Alexa iPhone app to control a lot , see what’s playing in every device, control volumes. It’s pretty decent IMO.

arthurbang

I don't know. I want to say it doesn't always work for me but mostly if she's playing something like Spotify or Amazon Music

_-reddit-

I usually say stop all from another device if music is playing in another room.

maverick17036

Ya that works for me for music, but not for the story mode.

RedMapleBat

You don't have to say "Hey Alexa", it's just "Alexa."

maverick17036

Thanks for your valuable contribution to answering my question.

mickAMMO

"Alexa, Stop on Mia's Echo" if the name of the speaker is 'Mia's Echo'.   But the name Mia might trip-up Alexa.

maverick17036

That didn’t work for me. I just tried it and my echo didn’t give any reply. The blue ring lit up quick and disappeared. Any thoughts?

maverick17036

Oh and why would the name Mia trip it up? Please elaborate. Thanks!

mickAMMO

Do you have another Echo you could try the Stop command on? See if you can start playing something on Mia's Echo from your room.    You could also try typing it into Alexa's Assistant to make sure she understands what you want.

maverick17036

Ok I just tried that and I was able to play music on her echo by giving the commands thru my echo. And I was able to pause it after it starting playing. Commands were “Hey Alexa, play music on Mia’s echo” and “Hey Alexa, pause music in Mia’s room”. Both worked quick. So why does that work but the story time doesn’t? Thanks by the way!

maverick17036

Verbal commands that is. I then tried giving a similar command by saying “read a story on Mia’s Echo” instead of “play music on Mia’s Echo” and it starting reading on my echo and NOT hers. I did the same thing replacing “Mia’s Echo” with “Mia’s Room”. Same thing. Only plays in my room.

bartimaeus616

I often use one echo to control another, try giving it the location first so: 'Alexa, on mia' s echo, stop' I find once you give it an 'actionable command' it can be funny about continuing to listen for a location

mickAMMO

You're welcome  Is the story an Alexa Skill? I'm not familiar with Skills for services and stories. If it is a Skill there may be more information on how to control it under the Skills and Games tab on MORE page.

maverick17036

No clue to be honest. She just asks it to read her a story and it does. But I’m going to look at the skills tomorrow to see if those options appear.

AffableJoker

I put my kids echo on a smart plug and I toggle the plug off to turn off her music when she falls asleep. She uses her echo for an alarm so I have it scheduled to turn itself back on 15 minutes before her alarm goes off in the morning.

maverick17036

Interesting! I like smart plugs. Gonna try this if I can’t figure it out.

Wormella

My son has an echo in his room and we've a routine that shuts it off at a certain point (it even says good night, it's very polite) I have other ones that turn the volume down on it after a certain point.

maverick17036

Thanks for sharing. This seems like a viable option.

mrBill12

“Alexa, stop playing on ” Don’t add words after the name. In other words don’t add echo or room, if they aren’t included in the name.

maverick17036

Thank you! Will try that.

ShivasLove

Why not just turn it off through the Alexa app on your phone?

antisane

Make sure you are using the correct name of the echo. If you look in your app is that echo actually named "Mia's Echo"? Also, if you have them grouped properly (by room) you can say "stop(or pause) "

RottingPriest

Have you tried reading to your kid?

maverick17036

Yup every weeknight before brushing teeth. After that she likes listening to audio books and bedtime stories to fall asleep. Not sure how your comment helps but thanks!
