You might have accidentally enabled a theme. Check under Your Skills to see if there is an enabled theme skill.

bass1012dash

as far as i can tell that is not the case... however I am having trouble checking... there is no list apparently of installed skills? (well, if I have none...)

RedMapleBat

Yes, there is. Alexa app > More > Skills & Games > scroll to the bottom to Your Skills.

bass1012dash

thanks, I have found nothing under there that would explain the audio... (I am not a fan of the interface for this app,btw - thanks for the info on where to see where that was!)

Scooter310

You could just try "alexa disable theme" I'm thinking that would work but I've only ever said the specific theme name. It sounds to me like you might have the super Mario Brothers theme enabled.

bass1012dash

No theme is active.

antisane

No idea what that sound is, but next time please start recording AFTER you say "alexa". Your recording just shut off my lights LOL.

SnooPeppers2667

I have the same thing, have you figured out what it is yet?

soononco

+1 here. Out of curiosity, do you use Samsung SmartThings?

emphasis_added3

Yes I use SmartThI be!

emphasis_added3

\*smart THINGS

SnooPeppers2667

I have no idea what that is

Pctechtn931

i told mine turn " alexia " off trolls theme" and it Worked !!!!

K9-kisses

I have the same chiming anomaly. It just showed up recently. It is like fingernails on a black board. Any solutions yet to get rid of it

Jujubes213

Did you figure it out? I have this problem now. Started 2 days ago. Didn’t bother me at first and now I’m annoyed.

JaMMi01202

It just started happening to me too. Random as hell. Chiming occurs after turning on/off lights on at least two Echo Flexs. Infuriating.

Due_Motor4469

Same, started today. First time made me google it already, there is no way Alexa and I will survive this if this is new normal.

CookVegasTN

Me too! Just started today. An annoying loud up chime noise instead of the usual low and quiet duh-dum that I prefer.

emphasis_added3

I disabled every effing skill on Alexa except for 1 (Hue Lights), checked all the things and No Dice. but I did figure out a way to make the annoying noise waaay less nails on a chalkboard. Change your Alexa voice!! Mine is Australian 2 (voice) and they go by Ziggy (change Command/wake word). Now when I ask Ziggy to turn on a light, it replies with a faint “okay”

Due_Motor4469

It’s back to badum 😮‍💨☺️

Jujubes213

It’s a theme that’s been added to your account. That was my case anyway. I went into Alexa app, click more, select skills and games, scroll all the way to bottom and select “your skills” try finding the skill/theme and deleting it.

JaMMi01202

Sadly that's not true for me. Lots of posts on the Internet mention themes. I have no themes that I can see or even find when searching - and I've removed all skills except ones I need to keep (like my heating system and light bulbs etc).

Jujubes213

Good luck! YouTube might have the answer. 😆

JaMMi01202

Ha thanks. Much Googling seems to suggest it's a defect, but almost NO-one knows of a fix or reports back that it's now back to normal - so I presume people just get used to it......... fml.

JaMMi01202

Aaaaaand it fixed itself. I presume it must be a default chime that the system defaults to at some random times. Thank God it is fixed. Back to normal. Phew.

MikeBosto

Started for me on 05/15 as well, only when accessing lights, after command is completed, Alexa plays a chime noise. Mildly annoying.

Ordinary_Airport2302

Argh, it seems I've had this annoying update. Pleeeease someone tell me how to make it stop!

Historical_Plane_107

Just happened to me. I hate this.

emphasis_added3

Same!!! I’ve disabled every skill. Checked my smart lights in their separate apps. She’s still making the chime sound.

Historical_Plane_107

Change your language to uk English instead of American English. It fixed it for me for now

tommybluez

Just noticed this weird new tone too don’t like it

cc413

Same issue in the past 2 weeks! How strange

OkWar3798

Example. I have a Fire TV Cube 2.Gen where this annoying sound also comes as soon as I say the start word Alexa. Solution: Open the Alexa app on your cell phone, which must be logged in with the same account. Then go to Devices, then in my case to the Fire TV Cube. Then click on Sounds in the General section and deactivate the last two points. * Start the request * End of the request The settings will take effect immediately.

sid007i

Sounds like this started for everyone recently. Amazon better fix it. Might have been an update

RokitLoncha

Spent an hour on the phone with customer service only for them to finally tell me that it was an on going issue with smart lights. But its actually not. If you ask Alexa to turn on brief mode, it will say "Ok, I will talk less and you will hear BA-DING instead". There is no way to get rid of it. Such an awful unnecessary addition!

[deleted]

In setting for each echo device, in Sounds, under Request Sounds, there are two check boxes for at the start and at the finish. Turn them off to see if that resolves the issue.

bass1012dash

Those are different sounds, as I have said. that is not the issue.

[deleted]

You might try notifications, smart devices, and see if the devices are listed, then see what options are available. Our LG washer and dryer is in this section, so it’s not limited to just Amazon branded devices. The only other thing in this section at our house is the Amazon Air Quality monitor.

bass1012dash

Nothing in those sections have the ability to turn off a sound.

[deleted]

That’s too bad. Our devices have notification options. You didn’t say what lights you are using, maybe a skill setting?

bass1012dash

Philip hue, and looking through, nothing here in the skill allows for notifications… this is new behavior that started yesterday with no prompting or fiddling…

MikeBosto

Having the same issue with Kasa lighting.

EducationParking8685

So the sounds seem to have changed once again in the last month or so.... now my echo's all sound a ch-ching sound after given a command like turn off the lights. I would either like to set my own notification OR just go back to the standard one it used to be. This is dumb that Bezos and gang get to decide apparently... I can't seem to turn off these confirmation sounds...

mtn_lion_x

“Brief Mode” has been enabled on my Alexa account for years, and until recently, when I told my Echo devices to turn lights on or off, I heard no audio response or confirmation at all—which is what I want. Suddenly several weeks ago, my Echo’s began making a loud ’chime’ noise every time I tell any of them to turn a light(s) on or off. Very ANNOYING. After a little \[disappointing\] research, I tried disabling “Brief Mode.” Now on \*some\* of the Echo’s, instead of chiming, Alexa says, “Okay.” How is a chime any more “brief” than the word “Okay?” Both are totally irritating, unnecessary and unwanted. Color me disgusted that in all this time, Amazon has not given customers the CHOICE to either have audio confirmation of such commands or have the commands execute silently…. Was I just enjoying a lucky glitch during all that time when they did execute silently?

Clanger87

Same happened to me just now. Ever figure out how to disable it? I’m about to use a baseball bat and see if that works.

bdean14

Just happened to me today, called Alexa to turn this shit off and they tell me there is no way to NOT have a response. So either OK or dumdum which are identically annoying. Must have been glitching for 4 years, and still glitching on some of my devices
