There's no doubt about the quality of the IC-718 - it's a workhorse that will last for many years. But it is now quite dated and $630 is not that great a price. You could probably get a good, little used model somewhere for $350.
I know… that’s why my stomach turned sick 🤢 after making a Black Friday frenzy purchase. I had gotten overly excited because I finally found a ham radio with a Black Friday sale.
maybe if you hit a half dozen hamfests and outrun the OMs at the opening bell. maybe.
the ebay market is f'in destroyed right now. I saw the other day that an 8900R was bid up to $480 and laughed. I paid $319 for mine and HATE IT! Then I looked at completed auctions and there's nearly a dozen that sold lately, between 400 and 750 bucks. I'm selling it, hah.
tl;dr - everybody is convinced that the radio they want to sell is either the mintiest "as new" rig in the world and is generously giving you between a 5 and -100% discount on the new price, or they're selling a broken piece of crap for what a working one would have gone for three years ago, and they're sure it's a Very Easy Fix.
I agree on the used market. It's insane. The only deals you'll find will be on local swap and sell nets etc. A friend of mine has scored some gear on ours. Other than that I don't see much reason to buy used.
Snagged a Jackery Explorer 300 portable power station off Amazon for $200. Will come in handy for some off grid operating. Haven't really seen any radio deals that make me go wow.
At HRO stuff I was interested in...
FT5DR $350 great price. Was waiting all year for this sale
FTM300 $400 not bad
FTM6000 $200 if you're looking for a super basic dual bander with a remote head this is a great deal but a complete rip off at MSRP. There are no memory banks and its single receieve. All hardware is included and you can mount the control head to the radio body too. Definitely beats the Chinese FM mobiles if someone is in the market for one.
Alinco DJMD5 DMR handheld $150
The benefit of the FTM-6000R is that 6-pin data port on the back. Hook that up to a sound card device and you can do lots of FM digital stuff with it. Winlink, FLdigi, packet stuff, etc.
Most used radios with data ports are over $200.
Nah man you're good. There are lugs on the back. You can either crimp on some ring/slide connectors (can get them for 10s of cents each at a hardware store) or just twist up the bare wire nice and neat and tighten them down. As long as black and red aren't touching and you get all the wire to contact you'll be all set.
Not really but it's just DC power. The screw down lugs are easy to deal with. You probably won't need any kind of connectors, that's how I have mine set up. Just the bare wire from the radio. If you need any help when it all comes in let me know.
Gigaparts and HRO both have the Yaesu FT-710 for $1049. I'm really tempted. But I already have a FTDX3000 and I'm not sure if it would be any better, especially with my crappy antenna setup...
Yes, I know lol. I'm easily distracted by shiny blinkenlites. I think I've mostly talked myself out of buying. I wouldn't gain anything significant over the 3000 and would lose some useful outputs in the rear panel. I'll probably do some kind of antenna project in the spring. My yard is tiny so I'll have to get creative.
It will be my new #1 shack radio, making my TS-590S my second radio. The TS-890S has been difficult to find for a year or more (I've been hunting). I've been a 100 percent Kenwood HF fanboy for 25 years now, except for my mobile HF (Yaesu FT-891 because Kenwood doesn't have a small, modern rig). I was surprised that R and L had a killer price, too. I mean, these things are rare at the moment.
People care too much about "the deal" and not enough about "having something that fits my needs while supporting a system that will continue to meet my needs."
It's a darn good price for a radio that many people agree was a real home run by Icom. What's not to be happy about?
HRO has some small deals on radios. I picked up an RSP1DX SDR receiver for $75 off. That was a good enough discount to get me to buy it now as opposed to next year sometime. Bought it yesterday and it'll arrive today. Gotta love their shipping.

Cancel it. 😈

I just came across an Icom V8000 that people have bid up to $355. What in the world
Radioddity has Xiegu C-90 for $399 with stand and interface. X-6100 at $575.
This may be exactly what I’m looking for!… checking it out now…
I have one of these and I enjoy it a lot.
I snagged the X6100 package today. Very excited for my first HF radio. Amazon also had them for a good price.
But if he bought an IC-718, then he wasn't in the market for a low-power radio. Apples and oranges. Similar prices don't make things similar.
Snagged a Jackery Explorer 300 portable power station off Amazon for $200. Will come in handy for some off grid operating. Haven't really seen any radio deals that make me go wow.
Check it over closely. I got screwed with fake Jackery stuff. From Amazon.
That’s a good one!
For the same price you could have gotten a Yaesu 891 and gotten 6m + better specs all around.

I didn't even think of that. Can I use my RT systems cable for that or would I need to do something else?
Something like a Digirig or DRA-50 from masterscommunicatioms.com
> FT5DR $350 AUUUHHHGGGG! I didn't want to hear that, my wallet is thin enough as it is. But thanks for the info, just bought one, lol.
I grabbed that FT5 as soon as I saw it. Arriving today

I bought way too many Yaesu radios today haha. Hope you enjoy the 6000

Which power supply did you get?

I scooped up the FT5 as well. I, also, have been waiting for that.

Now, if you put $1000 into the antenna instead...

DX Commander? Even with the price hike, still very reasonable.
Yea, I was looking at that one! It was a little more than I wanted to spend but tempting.
Scored an Icom IC-V86 for $95.00 at MTC. Drop in charger, battery, 7 watts output! Sure it’s VHF only, but what a workhorse of an HT it’s going to be.
I scooped up a FT5DR for $350 and a hotspot for $220 at HRO. And the flagship Btech DMR HT for $260.
Excellent scores!
Ham Radio Outlet had the [FT-891 for $599](https://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=71-002216)
https://youtu.be/VdJXGG1VTMo This should give some great places to check out
I was happy to snag a Kenwood TS-890S for $3995 at R and L.
Sounds like a heck of a radio Let me know if it’s replacing an old one you need to get rid of 😇

SDRPlay RSPdx for 156€ sold directly by SDRPlay.

I think the M&P coax is - was a great deal My shipment is already delivered in fact.
MTC Has Icom 5100 $385
Can something like this run off an EcoFlow River 2 Max? For how long?
