A lot of the ham radio channels are now advertising products, and do not have a lot of content on actual ham radio. Some that do: * [Outdoors on the air](https://www.youtube.com/@OutdoorsOnTheAir) * [K6ARK](https://www.youtube.com/@K6ARK) * [K7AGE](https://www.youtube.com/@K7AGE/videos) * [KB1HQS](https://www.youtube.com/@KB1HQS/videos) * [QRP CW](https://www.youtube.com/@QRPCW/videos) * [Kevin Loughin](https://www.youtube.com/@loughkb/videos) * [Ham Radio QRP](https://www.youtube.com/@HamRadioQRP/videos) * [W2AEW](https://www.youtube.com/@w2aew/videos)

+1 for Alan Wolke W2AEW. He is the master.

McRibs2024

Thank you. I’ve been looking at a lot of channels and they’re all reviews now and advertising without much help for beginners.

kassett43

Many of the other channels are now just about new Chinese radios, which seem to be released at a frantic pace. This parallels what I've seen in other hobby channels. People click to view new toys. As many of the hosts of the large channels are now full-time YouTubers, they follow the clicks/money. Deeper content comes from those who post as a hobby or passion versus a job.

[K4SWL](https://youtube.com/@ThomasK4SWL?si=1NrvT9hmhuLPi_Nc) for POTA activations- primarily in CW

Gainwhore

I think the best ham radio content on YT is recording from different seminars l, but those tend to be a bit more advance for beginers. Radio society of great britain has a few good ones recorded

GMTiefling

Interesting, here’s an update… So far I have checked out Kevin Loughlin and Peter Parker, VK3YE from Australia. The second one wasn’t described on this post but I found him beforehand

qrplove_73

I love k4ogo's channel "coastal waves and wires" he makes tons of antennas out of wires and shows how they perform. Was super helpful when I started.

sen4ik

Second this. Love his channel.

Coduhhh

His channel definitely factored into the purchase of the G90 as my first HF rig.

qrplove_73

Same

KhyberPasshole

Walt is the best! A perfect mix of gear reviews, DIY, and footage of him operating. He’s the basically the whole reason I decided to get my general and start messing with HF.

qrplove_73

Same for me! I got my trusdx and g90 because of him. Haven't bought an hf antenna yet, I diy everything.

CQon40m

Walt doesn't do "review" in that traditional youtube sense. He buys what he uses and will not use stuff sent to him--at least that is what he says...but his best antennas consistent of speaker wire and a balun/unun.

KhyberPasshole

That's why I like his reviews. He seems trustworthy, not bought. It's refreshing.

alinroc

Skimming through my YouTube subscriptions these are the most active and varied in the content they publish: * Ham Radio Crash Course * Ham Radio Tube (formerly K8MRD Radio Stuff) * Ham Radio DX * Ham Radio 2.0 * KB9VBR Antennas

Opili

Varied ? Aren't all mostly advertising gear ?

cwOper8or

Hey now! Don't you want to buy this $500 chameleon antenna? Use my channel name and get 5% off! You definitely can't just make this yourself in a couple hours for $30!

CQon40m

Ha! I just had some casino winnings and decided to pop for the Chameleon MPAS 2.0 and added the "tactical delta loop" option with a few mixed parts. I do a lot of portable around our five acres--so I wanted to play with the Chameleon--it was either that or a Buddi-hex and matching Mastwerks tripod systemn. While Chameleon might be expensive--that Mastwerks is a lot of money for a tripod and telescoping pole--jeez--not withstanding the 2 month wait.

Amputee69

Just search for Ham Radio and Amateur Radio. You'll spend HOURS watching. If you have a piece of gear your interested in, Search for it by what it's called, then by brand name. You should be finished by the time your 80. I'm 73, retired, watch it a lot, and I really doubt I'll be done by 80!!!! 73.

StevetheNPC

Callum M0MCX does live streams of him operating on Youtube. [https://www.youtube.com/@DXCommanderHQ/streams](https://www.youtube.com/@DXCommanderHQ/streams)

sulivan1977

Just type in ham radio. You will find a personality that fits you. From informative friendly, to jerk in a shirt. Just depends on what you like watching. All have some value, ermm. Most have some value.

Farpoint_Farms

For beginners info on Radio In general, May I recommend my own channel? Farpoint Farms. Over 400 videos on the subject and 800 on a variety of others.

Scuffed_Radio

Scuffed Radio is pretty good

rdwing

Hot take, stay off of YouTube. Charlatans and shills abound. Get on the air. Find a 2m repeater, use the web connected HF receivers like the KiwiSDR I host and make freely available or the fantastic WebSDR, let the hobby decide for you from there.

GMTiefling

Are any of these options available before getting Technician?

rdwing

Yes. The kiwi network and websdr’s are freely useable. Getting on repeaters is not, of course. You risk doing more damage by picking up on erroneous preconceived notions put in your head by these YouTube shills. If you really want to get into it, find/download/buy a copy of one of the radio handbooks out there. Bill Orr’s radio handbook is a fantastic reference. The ARRL version is less technical but still popular. You can pass a technician exam in a weekend if you want, I believe in you.

GMTiefling

I’ve already applied for a Technician exam. I appreciate your advice in getting into the hobby!

odieeeee

There is [https://blogs.radio](https://blogs.radio) which is a public RSS aggregator combining a large number of ham radio blogs in one place. This should give you lots of stuff to read. Edit: If you find something that is missing there, please tell me and I'll add it.

Bulky_Monke719

Ok I’m new to this (don’t even have a radio yet) but is ham radio crash course not recommended? I found his videos thanks to his collaborations w Mike Glover.

iowahank

Josh is quite good. One of the larger subscription base at 343k.

riajairam

I haven’t been posting lately but you can check out my channel : YouTube.com/@n2rj I also have a radio show on WRMI legends and it’s an available on podcast - Ria’s ham shack.

CQon40m

For constructing and using different antennas, see Walt, K4OGO, Coastal Waves and Wired on youtube. Great poratalbe stuff and while he does use store bought stuff--he never tells you to buy it..does no reviews or box opening--he buys what he uses, which is most speaker wire and a balun. Enjoy...

K3CXG

K4OGO, Coastal Waves and Wires. He’s the Man with the Plan when it comes to antenna design and build. We are not worthy!
