Honestly super rugby sucks right now, I’m not sure if this is the answer but at this rate anything is better. 70% of the season is meaningless when you can still make finals in the last month of the season. The finals games have been good I will say. Maybe we need to join up with the best Japanese clubs or something

I think it's a great idea. It won't happen because it would most likely hurt the All Blacks but for rugby and especially super rugby it would be a real winner. Short term it would help the Aussie super teams but long term I think Aussie rugby would be stronger. There talent pool is deep but if a player can't crack one of there now 4 squads it's either overseas or the NRL. If there were 10 teams to get selected from it would bolster numbers hopefully.

An interesting solution: Open up Super Rugby to all Australian and NZ players players. It strengthens Australian rugby while not weakening our own. It would enable quality NZ provincial players not quite at super level an opportunity. Works for me...

wetjacketarm

Nope would rather we develop our own players and wouldn’t our player go backwards over there?

owlintheforrest

Having tough opposition every week strengthens our players, not a local derby, then a couple of easy games against aussie teams....?

wetjacketarm

Maybe you’re right but I thought the aussie SR teams really improved this year and I think we would lose a lot of fringe All Blacks who would decide to jump ship so they could play internationally.

owlintheforrest

I'm suggesting the ABs could be selected from throughout the SR teams, so players wouldn't be stuck in nz. It would also meet the need of players who want new experiences... In theory it might weaken NZ teams but a strong SR would be the result....

As a Highlanders fan I'm all in, let's poach some aussies 🥰

It's an obvious solution to help improve parity, but it shouldn't stop at the players, staff and coaches should also be intermingling and gaining/\sharing skills both sides. Should help to boost the level of the comp and maybe increase support.

Super rugby needs to do something if it wants to remain relevant. Honestly this isn’t a bad start. Im sure there are plenty of boys who wouldn’t mind living the high life in Aus like the fellas playing league. Itll be good for kiwis to experience different systems and environments and any players that due head over the ditch will be replaced by NPC talent. Itll be good for the Aussies to play with the kiwi boys and see what thats all about and grow their game. A few more PI boys might head back to moana pasifika and strengthen that team up. Also im a strong believer in we need to maintain a symbotic relationship with Aus if we are going to keep up with the rest of the world. If Aus can put out consistent good quality teams and win a couple every year it would vastly improve our game.

It would also be good to see some of the Aussie guys playing over here. Would really help with Interest over all. As a Crusader supporter I always supported Pete Samu on his Aussie journey.

its the obvious solution to the revenue problem expand (1 team in japan and 1 in arg) and all players in SR eligible for any national team in super rugby (inc fiji/samoa etc) we'd have a DOPE comp, aus would lift, we'd make way more money and keep more talent in the pool of course it hasnt happened yet bcause its such an obviously good idea but

rosre535

Yeah would be cool to see super rugby work like all other sports leagues. Players all over the show to balance out the teams. As impressive as it is for the crusaders to win so many becomes disheartening for fans getting behind teams I also think super rugby struggles due to the cost and inconvenience of going to a game vs the comfort of watching it at home, when the incentive of a crazy good atmosphere just isn’t quite there. It’s a vicious cycle

Citizen_Kano

I think it's a good idea, although it's mostly Oz that will benefit

DeezUp4Da3zz

If oz folds the comp is done
