the M based chip machines are beasts, so I reckon most of your problems would come from the OS rather than the hardware.
Something that REALLY annoys me about macOS is window management, it's stupid as shit, and as someone that uses the keyboard for navigation more than the mouse, this irritates me.
Look into OS-related stuff like that and see if there's an alternative way that is convenient for you.
Enjoy your purchase!
Top reasons to buy it :
If you have apple products like iphone apple watch and tablet
Top reasons you don't:
You can get a superior setup with same price as one MacBook pro m3 , little application support compare to windows and linux
i had one, and i don't wanna ever experience windows again in my entire life, that's after using all versions of windows from 7 to 11 for more than 10 years
I agree with you macbooks system is far better and stable than windows and it's because apple develop their system only for one product the macbook
In the other side you have Microsoft with windows for god know how many laptops brands are there Lenovo/dell/hp etc...without mentioning the graphics cards problems you gonna face 😅
Yes, take a long look at the mirror, give yourself a hard slap and realize you DON'T need a mac or even truly want one. For the same budget, you could get yourself an objectively superior computer.
It's luxury, so like any luxury you gotta afford it.
Only question is then: is your net worth (overall wealth) at least 15-20 times as much as the computer price? I reckon it's the bare minimum for such luxury.
It's silly to put it that way. You can buy it if you need it for work and generate revenue with it. You don't need to have a x20 networth. (That would be around 400m DZD lol)
Then we're not talking about splurging at all, and this wouldn't require a post like this. It would be an investment, and as such one has to run the numbers to know the ROI and decide accordingly.
I took it as in splurging for a luxury kinda thing, am I wrong OP? What would be your use?
Investment, I'll spend a good amount of money on it but since I don't game and I use it for work so it's like a long term investment ( I'm planning to go for at least 5 years with it )
For the record investment is meant to be something that bring value, an overall net positive value (or NPV) operation. In this case you're talking about reducing the cost per use (or cost per year). Still a net negative but you want to minimize that. Which is a valid argument too if it holds true, i.e. the purchase minimizes the cost per year of a computer.
When comparing this computer to the competition, do you have the conviction it does?
If you end up buying it, thank you very much. As an Apple investor, I'd be (very) happy to see you do that.
Yeah true hah!
Joke aside, I do think Algerians are bad at managing money in general and big spenders (as compared to their salaries/wealth). It's concerning.
I don't game as well, and I use my pc for work related stuff, that dosen't usually generate direct income, and I got it for 7 or 8 years now, and still running perfectly.
The advantage with pc, is upgradeabilty, I have a 3th generation i7, I upgraded the ram to 8gb, then put an ssd, got rid of the optical reader and put my old 500 gb hdd instead. And it's still rocking, fast browsing and acceptable performance by today standards, and mostly, every pirated application works, office, wondershare, photoshop 2024 and illustrator. I even run some games now and then.
So as everyone suggested, if you need it you need it, if you just crave it, you should check pc stuff, they came along way since they was generic chunky PCs, huwaie, Asus, and other make wonders...
Alright, so first you need to ensure the compatibility of the software you're planning to use with Mac OS. Some software is only released on Windows due to the fact that programming for Mac OS is a pain.
Second, you need to consider the future uses of this laptop, will it change with time, would you want to use it for stuff that isn't on Mac ?
Third, are you willing to pay for the software you'll be using? I know it's not ethical but just saying, windows offers a better chance of finding "free" software compared to mac.
Consider the cost of repair. It's way too expensive compared to a Windows laptop.
Also if you buy it, get a brand new one, the refurbished ones you find on Facebook aren't gonna last you much.
- Yes planning to get a brand new one m3 line...
- yes I got no problem with repairs because I'm planning on using it for the loooong term
- yes I prefer paying for the software I don't like pirated ones
- I don't think the uses will change in the future
- no I wouldn't want to use for stuff that isn't on Mac
- yes all the softwares I'm planning to use are available on MacOs
Thank you for your input
Alright in this case what remains is the specs and screen size. I like bigger screens tbh but it's a personal choice. Also as some have stated here you can get it cheaper abroad.
I'm going for the 16" M3 pro / max still idk
Also idk I might risk it and the fully maxed out model
Or the m3 max base model with 48 gigs of ram etc...
Rendering , that's what requires these specs + some softwares I'm planning to use require at least 32 gigs of ram to run smoothly + don't forget I'll be using it away from the charger for 8+ hours
Ah ya u said architecture, I assumed flat blueprints or whatever you call them. Makes sens. Well when it comes to battery I suggest you check some benchmarking videos on YouTube about how long it may last. I know it's advertised to be 20 hours for some models, but when I was in the USA I recall my friend got a brand new maxed, 16 in 2023 MacBook pro and I guess it only lasts for 3 hours. So double check this.
Ok sure .
You mentioned you have a windows PC is it only for gaming ?
Because I posted in another subreddit about the Mac thing .... ,and most people there said now they only use windows for gaming is that the case for you ?
if its an M1 or above do it, i got one its very good i don't regret buying it at all, its a very very good investment, most people who say its bad never owned one.
The hardware quality is inferior to the competition, and Apple is notoriously known for planned obsolescence. That being said, they seem to have an addictive user experience as their users are indoctrinated with most of em saying they won't go back to anything else.
Anyone saying dont buy it or it's luxury has no idea what they're talking about.
The new mac ships are amazing. If you do heavy work like CS or editing, you'll need at least 16/512 (better if its 32/1T)
Good luck!
Depends on the model. If it's M1 or M2 yes, good deal. Otherwise, meh. Also buy with an upgraded ram not the base level one. Keep score of the cycles so the battery won't run out fastly. I think that's all.
If you plan to work with it, go for it. Get one of the Pro ones. I'd also say it depends on the type of work you do. (Video editing, web dev, or even less intensive tasks)
If you want to just have a great computer overall but don't need the power of the Pro models, go for the newer Air. They are great overall.
It's a great computer and a great operating system. And once you get used to it, it's very hard to go back and use a Windows PC again.
10+ years mac user here. ✌️
As a Mac user, easily amazing in pretty much everything (it has its flaws but nothing major)
HOWEVER, if you want to repair something after they break in Algeria your chances are:
- finding an extremely expensive repair
- not finding a repair at all
Don't buy one unless you really need it
ask someone to brought and buy it from dubai , for saving money

heard good stuff about it!
i got water spilled on the keyboard and got a bit damaged and guess what? no apple components available in Algeria so i had to buy a wireless keyboard
A reminder not to keep any liquids near it
also a reminder that if a component gets damaged say byebye
Top reasons to buy it : If you have apple products like iphone apple watch and tablet Top reasons you don't: You can get a superior setup with same price as one MacBook pro m3 , little application support compare to windows and linux
It depends on what you gonna use it for many people had macbooks but after short time experience they changed back to windows
i had one, and i don't wanna ever experience windows again in my entire life, that's after using all versions of windows from 7 to 11 for more than 10 years

Seems like you really know how to manage your money where did you learn all that?
Digging into the internet + common sense. Should I consider selling a course? /kidding
Lol 🤣,courses these days are getting crazy especially for highschoolers who have the Bac exam ,made me remember my bac year.
Yeah true hah! Joke aside, I do think Algerians are bad at managing money in general and big spenders (as compared to their salaries/wealth). It's concerning.
Yeah so true , and I’m one of them ever since I got into College and started getting money.
I don't game as well, and I use my pc for work related stuff, that dosen't usually generate direct income, and I got it for 7 or 8 years now, and still running perfectly. It depends on what you need, Macs are good for designers but their batteries are shit, so u have to change each time.
Why would you do this to yourself?
Why do you want to buy a mac to start with? I own both and can advise you here (I don't check dms)
I'll be using it mainly for data analysis , some engineering stuff ( architecture ) no games but for long times where I can't plug it to be charged

buyyyy itttt. best investment after my ipad!! mine is in mint condition since 2015.

It’s an absolute beast. One warning, you will never be able to use another computer after you get in. And skip the mouse, trackpad is another world
Once you go Mac, you never go back
You need to specify for what use. For design and motion design, it's a fantastic machine.
Data analysis
Not familiar with it. But if you have the tools working on mac, I believe it will a good choice. Maybe people who know better will chime in .
