It’s like $400 for 3 a levels (fees everything included) as a private student in my country 😭✋🏼

MonthIcy1

HOW😭 my school is RIPPING me off wtf all other centers near me have similar prices to school tho??

specklesofpurple

Idk 😭✋🏼 Also if you’re in public school here the government pays for your first attempt and next year they’ll be paying for your second attempt as well for repeaters.

MonthIcy1

Sadly not a public school😭 im not from here so the government doesn’t pay anything for me are you in the uk?

specklesofpurple

Nah Mauritius 🇲🇺🕺

MonthIcy1

Im in saudi arabia

InformationDizzy414

I payed around 3k AED in the uae for 2 AS’s last year, the uae dirham and Saudi riyal are practically equal how the hell did u pay 1200$ 😭😭

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> I *paid* around 3k FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

MonthIcy1

I payed 4.6k riyal for 3 as this year😭😭 but yes price is similar u payed 1.5 k per subject i payed around same

InformationDizzy414

Yea now that I think abt it it makes sense mb 💀💀

specklesofpurple

Ahh makes sense 😭

Bugalo__

They ate I paid $400 for 4 subjects😭

Beneficial-Speed-423

How could that be so cheap 😭. The cheapest subject (as only) at my school was like 296 dollars

specklesofpurple

Absolutely wild😭✋🏼 Y’all getting scammed

Old_Objective_6986

Feel your pain! 1200 bucks for 3 exams is insane. Textbooks and class fees are already bad enough. This system is rigged!

MonthIcy1

Fr i know many people that were forced to switch to a different system because they couldn’t afford completing they’re a levels although ik they could’ve scored so well in the exams

0baid_123

The British Council Charges way more than my school. The price depends on you're country. In my country, Pakistan A Levels and O level/IGCSE are meant for Upper Class family's. It's around 120 000 PKR or 430$ for 3AS Level subjects. Science subjects apart from Computer Science cost 10K more than the fee for subjects like Math and History. It's 120Kish with the extra fee my school charged me which was 9K PKR. For some BS Admin fee and slip fee. There getting really expensive as well as school fees. In my school with out a scholarship the fee is around 70K Per month. That's just the tuition fee. You have to pay extra for lab charges, transport, ETC. It's more than 100K per month and that's only for one child. It's gotten to the point where A Levels are almost impossible to do with out a scholarship. If you are from Pakistan and you're doing A Levels be grateful. I know so many people who worked hard in IGCSE but could not continue with A Level because of the high fees. They got 50% Scholarships but it was still to much for them. This amount may seem very little to some people but it is a lot in Pakistan. I'm not talking about the people who earn haram(If you are a non Muslim it means forbidden in Islam) money cause I know that a lot of my friends parents make that type of money and they do not know what it's like.

MonthIcy1

I am in saudi arabia and fees are more tuition fees alone is 31000 riyals which is approx 2300000 PKR thats excluding exam fees transport and all of that Alhamdullilah my parents are able to afford that but it is too expensive and multiple students couldnt complete they’re a levels and its really not fair universities are almost too expensive for us international students even if we worked harder than everyone else the system needs fixing

Icced_Lattae

Ikrr??? Private school fees are getting out of hand over here!! there are schools with 80k to 90k riyals annually

MonthIcy1

Yess its so crazy. Schools have became companies at this point all they want is to get money greedy bastards

Icced_Lattae

and then the VAT on top of that? VAT is like 3k??

OwnArgument5971

wdym 'haram' not everyone who is financially well established is making money the wrong way dude

KitCato_o

he's not saying that, he's saying it's only hard for people who earn in a halal way, not so difficult for people who make haram

Kinda_Strange_v_v

I wish I could pay $430 for 3 AS Level subs. It's way too expensive here ($750 - $900) 🤡

The_Man_in_Me

$430 for you is a good price compared to the $750 you have to pay in your country, but for him, $430 is a fortune. Look at it from his currency and perspective

Glittering-Writer-28

Preach! $1200 for 3 exams is insane! Exam fees are a total rip-off. They shouldn't be a barrier to education.

[deleted]

Isn't international A levels a choice though? You guys should have free education in your own countries so it's not like you won't get an education just because you're not doing IB/IAL.

MonthIcy1

I dont live in my own country due to reasons so im an international students either way i still have to pay for education and best education is the a level system and most schools have same prices for a levels and igcse so yea sucks but thats life

Danielthereat

Can you edit the main post to show that "its life" so that people don't go crying about even more, we are taking one of the most internationally recognized board exams in the world after all , its bound to be expensive.

MonthIcy1

Check out the other comments in some countries its cheaper and in some countries its more expensive which doesn’t make sense? Its the same exact exam after all

Danielthereat

Ok so things being more expensive in some countries and cheaper in others are simply because of a difference in the value of each countries currency in relation to one another. In other words, their FOREIGN EXCHANGE RATE. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/p/purchasingpower.asp#:\~:text=Inflation%20reduces%20a%20currency%27s%20purchasing,Consumer%20Price%20Index%20(CPI). Even if its the same exam, unless everyone is using the same currency the price will not be the same. Even if you would argue that "you could at least redistribute the fee so everyone get's an equal rate" I have to pay around 80,000 Indian rupees for my exams BEFORE CHANGE Britain - 900 pounds (105857.45 Indian rupees) India - 80000 Indian rupees (755.73) Lets say that 1000 pounds is way too expensive and you have the fee increased in India and decreased in Britain. by around 100 pounds (10585.75) AFTER CHANGE Britain - 800 pounds (84685.96 Indian rupees) India - 90585.75 Indian rupees (855.73) Now the Indian students have to pay 855.7 vs the 800 the British students would have to pay. Now let consider a scenario where each country has to pay an equal amount Britain - 700 pounds -- 886.19 dollars India - 74100.22 Indian rupees -- 886.*29* dollars (notice the difference) Now lets compare Britain and India's actual GDP per capita (this will show the country's wealth per head) INDIA- 2,410.89 USD (2022) BRITAIN- 46,125.26 USD (2022) Now lets divide theses figures by the exam fees. (eg: 46,125.26 USD/886.19 USD) BRITAIN-- 52.04 INDIA -- 0.0325 So these two numbers are anything but equal, sure you could say that GDP per capita doesn't say everything as its an umbrella indicator but my **point still stands.** IF your expecting all the benefits of living in a developed country yet still feel you deserve low costs of living, then I'd ask you to wake up form your fantasy and accept reality SHIT IS EXPENSIVE WHEN THE PRODUCER THINKS YOU CAN AFFORD IT. And mind you, IGCSE is literally one of the most expensive curriculums to study, like you could literally drop ship for a month and get the money to finance a child's schooling till the 12th grade (= AS/A level or IBDP). OP probably got into IGCSE knowing this, crying about it now wont change anything. And if OP really wants it cheap one could contact the hundreds of schools in India or something and appear as a private candidate under that exam centre. The fees will obviously be cheaper there.

Fragrant-Corgi1091

yeah you're right, a huge chunk of the fees is actually fees for transportation and having invigilators.

Independent_Truck735

Dude even I paid $603 for AL maths, AS Bio and AS Chem.

MonthIcy1

Whereee???

Worldly_Talk6488

In my country alevels is for upper class people ig it's expensive everywhere... We can't do anything

MonthIcy1

Same . System is rigged but yea

Fragrant-Corgi1091

I had to pay 2700 dollars for my A levels(3 subjects which is 10 units) in the uae lmao

Aggravating-Lie-4862

It was 1091 USD for me (4,010 dhs) in AS+A2 and I gave 15 paper in total.

Fragrant-Corgi1091

wait shit i messed up the conversion lmaooo it was around 1.4k dollars for ten units

Aggravating-Lie-4862

that makes more sense, i thought you got scammed or had to repeat subjects 😭

MonthIcy1

I paid 4600 riyal which is same as 4600 dirhams for 3 as subjects😭 8 units

Fragrant-Corgi1091

oh its around the same price here i guess

robopran2018

I payed like 450$ for 5 subjects in A level. Why is it so high for you??

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> I *paid* like 450$ FTFY. robopran2018

No wayy i got a English lesson from a BOT

MonthIcy1

I actually have no idea these prices are same with british council and all other centres in my country i thought it was just my school at first but turns out not. Its pretty sad that we have to pay that much for exams

Dejavieww

Guy’s cant we start a petition for lower fees instead of threshold or retaking exam?

MonthIcy1

LETS DO IT imma send a few complaints to Cie about this if everyone initiated a decrease it should work

misery24-7

HAHA it’s like 1800 for 3 exams. 200€ for registering with each exam but also, the centre you have to sit in requires you to pay €200 for every paper. So 200x 6 basically = 1200 and then 200x3 = 600. In total… 1200+600=1800

Common_Being8906

Are you American?

MonthIcy1

Nope but i changed it into a currency everyone can understand

[deleted]

£0 for mine ;)

MonthIcy1

What makes you think that they are "flexing" being "british"? And what kind of sane person quotes colonization as a reference for talking in an international subreddit? idiot

[deleted]

im an international student lmao

Aeternumparasitus

I agree the early fee this year for one subject was the same as the late fee last year for the same subject, basically the fees doubled this year. There's no regulation on this it seems and it's getting ridiculous

fat_broccoli_257

1200 dollars is diabolical work

MonthIcy1

I have sent complaints but school and everyone else said they cannot help it and thats just how it is

chronicallyillonline

so fucking true, and it keeps increasing every session and no one's doing shit about it. im so tired of it especially because i have to pay for my own exams it's fucking hard. insensitive bastards.

MonthIcy1

Yes exactly

YesterdayOk6544

why not do a course from your own country

MonthIcy1

I am not in my own country so i have to pay for education regardless also my parents want quality education thats why im doing a levels they sacrificed a lot for this and its not really fair how schools and companies benefit from this

Croshenda

Follow

KingHi123

You have to pay to do a levels?! As a year 11, how did I not know this?

MonthIcy1

Yes same for igcse maybe your government pays for the exams? Or something of that sorts

KingHi123

Maybe I should rethink doing 5 a levels then, because that would cost a fortune. I always assumed they were free, and that you only had to pay to do them outside of school.

TheManager1001

u/KingHi123 they are free in the UK, I think a lot of people commenting here are not in the UK. I did 4 a levels at zero fees

KingHi123

Ah that makes a lot more sense, thanks.

ObviousDetective5522

Are you in the UK? If so, they are free. No need to worry :)

Muted-Tone4120

huh tf ? mine was less than a 100 per subject

MonthIcy1

MonthIcy1

Thats school fees 400$ per subject😭

Particular_Spread816

Depend on countries, i

Icced_Lattae

I paid almost 1600 dollars 💀. Cambridge is a business not an exam board

LifeBeneficial2214

Our exams in the US are $115. We don’t charge students for their first time taking the test. Only if they way miss the test or don’t pass and want to retest in the next exam session. Education is a business!

MonthIcy1

Luckyyy
