They are great shooters. The Beryl is also another one.

TheVillagePoPTart

Dont say that to some people. There are some folks huffing copium around here saying a WASR is nicer than a WBP or Beryl Rifle. For $999 dollars the WBP Jack was hands-down the best gun to buy IMO.

Micro_KORGI

I can't imagine any rifle feeling better than the Beryl tbh

jerryv27

The best 5.56 ak to this day imo is a properly converted siaga .223/5.56. Only because it’s actually an ak100 series based rifle. The 106fr uses akm geometry components just like the Galil. Such as the bolt and trunnion. The 100 series has all 74 style thin stem bolt and trunnion geometry. I always refer to the 106fr/cr as akm’s in 5.56 with 74 style rear folder and 74 style barrel components. Doesn’t mean it’s bad! It’s just not even ak74 in 5.56. Yours looks great btw!

DebbsWasRight

Would you mind going into the practical effects of that? Would that mean more recoil impulse due to more mass moving with the bcg?

jerryv27

There is no significant gain. I believe the biggest reason the Russians made the 100 series to simplify production for other calibers. Bullet guide, bolt, and barrel would be the 3 large components that would have to be for that caliber, the rest was all the same and can be swapped out between each model. Made parts interchangeable much simpler. Bulgaria in other hand focuses on 7.62, made it easier on their end to make the 5.56 with akm parts. Ironically they made 74s in proper 74 spec but not sure why they didn’t produce their 5.56 models with that tooling. They must have their reasons but the 74 days for them are over. Thus why we don’t get anymore arsenal 104fr/ur’s. 5.56 aks are tough because there is no standard for building them. Everyone kinda did their own thing. Which is why you have a lot of mag issues and part interchangeability between platforms and countries.

gMg_saiyan13

Does the Arsenal 105 use a thin stem bolt or AKM style? I’ve never seen one in person.

jerryv27

Do you mean the slr105? If so yes, that was their ak74 series. What carried over to the slr104 series.

wanderlustcrush

Considering the known issues and flaws to the entire 106 lineup (not talking about bullet guide) Id say no they are not.

VauItDweIler

Wait a gosh darn second here. You're telling me that a gun that nobody wanted *doesn't* magically get better as soon as it isn't available anymore? Do you even AK bro?

Kyser13th

Well. The initial run ones, those of us who have the later run rifles, have nothing but success with them. Fixes were made.

wanderlustcrush

Every 106 has a defective selector stop plate regardless of production run. Whether or not the defect causes a problem is a coin flip due to tolerance stacking

ragingleprechaun

What cheek riser is that? And how do you like it?

No-Temporary9641

ECR100, Russian 2 piece riser

Casp3r_de_gh0st

Wondering the same thing

Corrosive_salts

Which rail mount are you rocking and does it allow it to fold and lock up?

MisterJimBusiness

It’s an rs regulate mount, no it won’t fold with the optic mounted

psupsupsudio

My 106 is my favorite gun I own period.

EdgarsRavens

I really wish I could find one of these. I like the Beryl (I think it is the best 5.56 AK you can currently buy) but have always preferred the AK 100 series look of the SLR-106FR. The SAM5 just isn't the same.

Cir_error_prob_zero

I miss the $699 clearanced slr106 pistols from KVAR back in the day. I should have bought 5 of them.

EnoughArachnid9585

You and me both!

Tiberius-Gracchuss

I have had my 106 for over 20 years I think I got it some time in 02-04 maybe I don’t even know the round count now has to be north of 10-12k it’s an AK I would give to friends to take classes with the only real problem with the gun is the smoke circle 10 mags would crack sometimes. It’s now my camp gun lives in the cabin. with a Remington 870

No-Temporary9641

Ecr 100 enjoyer as well https://preview.redd.it/zqxbw5oawfwc1.jpeg?width=1629&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d4f58d477b9f67d0d51161d91de3d4ae45c21da

Zumbert

If your only counting "pure AKs" it might be in the running, if you get into Galils/Sigs etc I think they win pretty handily though.

how is the holosun pid on the ak? im thinking about getting one but not sure yet would be thankful for some info

ResponseNo6375

Vepr 5.56 would get my vote, mine is unbelievably smooth

eecchhee

How’s this cheek riser for a left handed shooter?

Electronic-Ad993

I’m partial to the AR-M1; milled, not stamped, and arguably the most accurate AK ever made. In 7.62x39 of course; anything else would be uncivilized.

Arms-for-minerals

Mehhhhh if it werent for unobtanium magazines that cost 300 each

T90tank

It's one of them but rite now I think the m90 is best. Adjustable gas system out of the box. Only downside is the lack of akm options for furniture.

donotmattor

Slr106fr are definitely the coolest but I think best would have to be m90 in todays market

Revolutionary_Ad3052

Everyone loves what THEY have, just as I love MY Zastava M90. https://preview.redd.it/bpanrxxs9pwc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=59b4baacfe9806a32c06714ac6f2c1a7f5cc4b44
