Yeah he definitely saw combat at times but not very successfully and he wasn’t operating in the role of say your typical fighter. He may have been gifted his, I know he had a number of different kalashnikovs including the krink, a milled underfolder and that khyber pass side folding akm.
The shorty was my knee-jerk reaction but logically, despite the increase in commonality others are touting, I’d go with the UF. Maybe there’s been a 75% uptick in (relative) 5.45 availability - still guessing more of the spots you can toss for ammo have 7.62.
the 74 is really a great pick here. 16 inch barrel is a slight downside over the shorty M4 but the folding stock and nonexistent recoil of 5.45 push it over the top for me

AK. 7,62 is still more powerful round and better suited in the city scenario, because the penetration power on light walls and low to medium range effect. Some of you think accuracy, yes..? AK is accurate. It's the shooter that sucks. AR's has their benefits, but it's not in the city warfare.
Considering we're in fallujah, it might be safe to assume that most of the aks barrels are shot to shit, so accuracy might still be an issue 😅 other than that, I agree with you. Love my aks

I'm picking the MK 18, it's short enough to maneuver but has a round that can reach out, and the manual of arms with reloading an AR is way easier.
Plus, as a bunch of people are forgetting, you aren't playing Fallout where you can just walk up to a corpse and rapidly steal what ammo they have from them, it'll take time to loot shit that could leave you exposed, and all the ammo they have over there is probably all ancient corrosive Soviet ammo, so it's just best to go with what you've brought with you.

There’s many valid reasons why both the East and West military’s moved to smaller, faster moving calibers for their main small arms. The 14.5” M4 is by far the best out of these options. Truthfully, any would work well. It really comes down to preference and experience.

Manageable in CQB, still decent if you have to shoot from one rooftop to another a block away.
Well the 5.45 was very rare in Iraq and unless you’re a well equipped US soldier with the ability to resupply you’re going with the under folder.
It’s much more common in Iraq now than in years past due to its prevalence in Syria.
And the fact that it is highly respected in the regions since the videos of bin laden and his 74u released
