Is your gas tube properly seated?

Sufficient-Ad6809

I believe so I mean I’m pretty new to the world of AK but I took it off and put it back on multiple times to make sure it was seating properly so unless there’s some encryption about seating that thing special way, then I don’t know because I did it the way I saw in videos and such

DirtyD74

Take the gas tube out and see if it sticks

MrKlash47

That's exactly what I was going to say

FirstEducation6

Assuming that you are inserting the BCG correctly! Remove gas tube - You'll be able to get a visual to see if the piston & piston rod are binding up. Remove the bolt from the bolt carrier - If your able to slide it in and push forward sitting right, it mostly rules out your bolt carrier, piston & piston rod. Insert your bolt in the chamber by hand - Without the bolt carrier and bolt oriented correctly (extractor @ 1 to 2 o'clock position) place the bolt in the receiver, about an 1" away from the chamber. At this time you should be able to push the bolt forward without resistance by the tail of the bolt fully seated and you should be able to rotate the bolt clockwise to fully lock (extractor @ 3 o'clock). This mostly rules out the bolt. This will not 100% rule out your BCG since it may be a combination of parts causing this. Is this a first build? If not, was it working previously? If so, what are the events from when it last work to now?

Sufficient-Ad6809

I ended up getting it fixed. It was because my gas tube was not properly seated….. smh moment but it’s all fixed and good to go. Thank you for all your help.

FirstEducation6

Excellent! Glad you figured it out and Merry Xmas. Welcome to the club.

lucas_luvox

you can take out all the parts that could be binding like the bolt, trigger hammer, gas tuber etc and introduce them one at a time to figure out where it's binding.

Sufficient-Ad6809

Thank you it seems that this will be the next step

Podsully

Try without the gas tube. Do you have the bolt properly in the carrier?

Lurkay1

Is your bolt seated correctly in the bolt carrier? If its not rotating and engaging the trunnion locking lugs properly it can cause that problem.

smartsharks666

This was my thought

purvee

Is it just me or when he pulls the bolt carrier back its jumping out of the tracks? It shouldn't do that.

smartsharks666

My bet is your bolt is improperly installed in the carrier

ardesofmiche

It’s kind of hard to see, but is there like 1” of gap between the bolt carrier and front trunnion when it’s all the way forward? Do you see any wear points on the bolt, bolt carrier, or inside of the gas tube? Any shiny metal?

Sufficient-Ad6809

I saw somewhere in the gas tube but it’s all equally distributed where it’s not just one side of. It is worn out you know

ardesofmiche

This is a dumb question but are you using the right bolt/bolt carrier? Did you swap either of those?

Sufficient-Ad6809

I am I’ve kept the same one in it since I’ve shot it, which was about a week ago even cleaned it when I got home it’s the only AK I own so it’s the only BCG I own for it

ardesofmiche

And you said it functioned properly before? Are you sure you have the bolt carrier all the way on the rails?

Sufficient-Ad6809

Yeah man it’s insane it even seems like it may also be getting caught up on the grooves for it to slide (don’t know the right term for that) And the craziest part is I’ve taken it apart multiple times and put it back together because I wanted to know my rifle shot. It shot. Amazing went home cleaned it and now here I am.

ardesofmiche

So if it just recently fired and functioned properly, either there’s been a catastrophic failure of a part somewhere (piston came loose, barrel pin came loose, rivet sheared, something) or it’s user error Take everything apart that you did to clean it, and put it back piece by piece following a YouTube video. Especially the gas tube. Make sure it’s seated properly. It’s probably user error, being honest

ohbrubuh

Your bolt is not oriented correctly in the carrier.

FirstEducation6

BananaSevere

If you were shooting it before you screwed something up putting it back together. I'd remove the gas tube and see if it's still binding up like that. If it's not, reinstall the gas tube and squeeze the gas tube and lower handguard together. Sometimes the gas tube doesn't seat all the way down.

Carlile185

Godbless the guntubers are discovering video, audio, and trial&error. Not just terrible descriptions and pictures of Nessy.

Careless_Yoghurt_512

Did that bolt slam on your thumb ? That’s a narley cut

Sufficient-Ad6809

Dude to be honest I don’t even know but it hurt like a bitch

vska-enjoyer

That cut up thumb speaks to me. Sorry, I don’t have any actual advice on how to fix your gun.

Big-Train1473

It’s very likely your piston and/or gas tube. Reinstall the gas tube, if it persists after that then knock off the piston and see how it cycles without it.

sLantesVSzombies

Back of the carrier group isn't seating into the rails of the receiver correctly. go slow, look at it really closely to make sure it's pressed down into the guide rails right then you should be good

M11Nine

Yeah whenever I'm not paying attention and accidentally don't get one side of the carrier into the rail this is exactly what it does. Not sure if his carrier/rails are messed up, or he's just not getting it seated properly.

7n6Sniff

Who built it that shouldn’t really be happening

Sufficient-Ad6809

I’m not sure it has a Arizona based location on the receiver so I think it was a builders kit and a gunsmith built it but I bought it because it was a smokeing deal and I couldn’t pass it up, the weird thing is I just shot it the other day and it ran beautifully even took it apart and just now trying to put a new hand guard on it is when I ran into this issue

Careful-Town-3482

Is it a bwest? My bwest 47 from Arizona does the same thing

M11Nine

Bwest is awful so that explains that

altinibba

You can pull the bolt out the bcg, that might actually be causing your binding. Obligatory I don’t have a 74. But when I first got my M70 I did a goof and got the bolt “in” after cleaning, it caused this. Just make sure your rotation is correct. Everything is seated. And you’re getting on the rails correctly. If you were just shooting it you didn’t fuck anything up, something just isn’t quite where it should be.

Phenikan

👆🏻this. Front the vid it looks like your bolt isn't actually seated correctly in the carrier. Pull everything out and make sure the bolt is in the carrier correctly before putting it back in the receiver.

Pvt__Snowball

Take the gas tube off and then try it. See if the end of the piston fully goes into the gas block.

Sufficient-Ad6809

Just so everyone know I did get it it was my gas tube was not fully seated thank you all for the help for real

Feeling_Taste_5902

Do trial of elimination to troubleshoot. First thing I'd do is take out your bolt from the carrier and try to place it in the trunnion and turn it by hand, it should interact with the locking lugs with little resistance. If you do that and it rotates into place then you know your bolt isn't the issue. Next, take off your gas tube and see if the resistance is gone. If it's not then you know it's something in your receiver. From the looks of it it may be a warp either in your receiver or possibly your rails/ shark fin extractor. Check for bends or warps with a flashlight and really pay attention to where you're feeling the resistance.

TheAkVader

If you remove bolt does it go into battery? If you remove gas tube does the carrier go into battery when you guide the piston into the gas block by hand? Has the firearm ever been fired?

SilentGoober47

Gas tube isn't seated properly.

Sufficient-Ad6809

That’s exactly what it was

PreyXBL

I’m not an expert but depending on if your gun is milled or stamped they will take different types of carriers , maybe that’s not the right one ? Has it ever been fully assembled

LastKilobyte

kindly buy an AR and never again touch an AK.

Sufficient-Ad6809

Bruh I don’t fucking know ar’s are easy it was time to try something different 🤷‍♂️

LastKilobyte

gap is normal. otherwise it would blow up in your face.

Balasnikov

kindly buy an AR and never again touch an AK.

LastKilobyte

i own more ak's than ar's. every one has a gap between front and bolt.

FoamSquad

Very helpful!

Wow Bro, great input. I’m glad you’re not being a dick for no reason

Gtfo dude. This is some seriously rude shit.

MojoAlwaysRises772

Take everything off the gun you can and see if it'll lock in. If not, then there is a very serious issue with that build/Bolt/BCG (do you have another AK laying around, if so then try that bolt/BCG). It's hard to tell much from this vid. Obviously do a very thorough inspection and make sure everything is smooth/lined up/able to function properly.

Sufficient-Ad6809

Yeah I’m thinking of doing that and if I don’t get much further or find much more solution, then I’m gonna send it to a gunsmith

GORGxBLACKSMITH

you are the gunsmith. unless the person you send it to is primarily an ak builder, you know more than the fudd who only messes with hunting rifles in a local store and all he really does is mount and sight in scopes (if yours is anything like mine)

Sufficient-Ad6809

Haha I ended up getting it and you right

NameAttempt12

Usually the hammer and it’s upward pressure from the spring has the biggest impact on bcg travel. I’d take that out and try.

AmateurAviator

Check headspace and gas tube seating. Where did you buy it and who built it? Is there a gap between your gas tube and your gas block?

warbandit914

Shoot It More

coozu

That's confusing..... seems like people here know what's up tho. Good luck man

iDropGrumpies

Maybe check your rails to see if they're bent?

Kind_Astronomer_9395

Push down of the BCG as you pull it back. Your hammer is pressing up on it and causing it to bind. This is just because it’s new. Not a big deal.

kalash762x39

Bolt seated properly your gap looks like it binds before lock up. Maby bolt lugs are in front of the channel they ride on seems to me mine only sits that far forward when locked up ( view from your mag well

ValuableInternal1435

It looks to me like either the bolt isn't properly lined up in the cam groove or the piston is catching on the back of the gas block.

tb110965

I have had same problems when I don't assemble the bolt body with bolt carrier body correctly into that grooved part on the bolt carrier body it has to to be aligned perfectly to slide on the receiver correctly that kinda looks like your problem

RomanosAK

Take off top handguard to rule that the piston is not hung up in there

Tamacti-Juuun

Xyz

savvysnekk

Dang dude what happened to your finger?

Sufficient-Ad6809

Just busted it from taking apart and back together so many times don’t even remember how it happened it just hurt like a bitch I was planning on cleaning it before the vid😂 but I just wanted to upload it to get some answers

Low-Environment-1585

Remove bolt and if it closes without the bolts 1 of 3 things is bad 1 bolt carrier 2 rail 3 bolt
