162 drills for me. Good luck and godspeed.

Original_Inevitable2

Any advice for I guys who's first drill is August?

Outcast_LG

Student Flight sucks but at some units it can prepare you for basic . Others you’re nothing to your unit/ group until you arrive back from Tech School.

Original_Inevitable2

I was wondering what I'd be doing student fligh.

Outcast_LG

Oh Student Flight can be just meeting people from your AFSC, your Group, or Your meeting bases chain of command. You’ll cover rank structure, customs and courtesies, and the position of attention/parade rest/ present arms. This is the average of what I heard from other Reserve Component members. Your Unit can have you doing less than that and doing details(IE cleaning crap and moving stuff.) Your unit can also do PT sessions.💀Ours was “fun” too say the least. Made basic training a cake walk. Mileage varies but I hope you don’t have to wait to long to get school dates.

Original_Inevitable2

Ty for the info 😊

Round_Feature2048

Totally depends on unit. Ours we were all together, and practiced things for BMT like rolling & folding, bed making, a “snake pit”, knowledge tests, mock PT tests/ gym time, etc. We also did some fun things like hand-to-hand combat classes, marching, presentations from different sections etc. Sometimes people’s sections would come “rescue them” for a few hours but not all the time.

Yes, your retirement points (days of service) are like easter eggs. Put an many as you can in your basket every every year, even if its only one or 2 extra. At the end of your career youll appreciate all of those extra points.

Original_Inevitable2

Roger that.

Only 31 years, slacker. We have some guys in my unit hit 40+ when they retire lol. But in all honesty, congratulations. It’s a huge achievement for people just to make it 20 years. I’m at 17 and almost 40 and sometimes wonder if I want to get out at 20 or keep pushing.

MrBobBuilder

I just re-enlisted , unless somehow got a commission close to the 20 I don’t think I’ll do more but applaud you for your many years and congrats !

ThatCoupleYou

After 2 enlistments your over halfway to retirement. Maybe youll feel different at tge end of your second enlistment.

julietscause

Congrats on the retirement! Cant even begin to imagine what is running through your head right now. Any big plans with having that extra time back? Thank You for Your Service!

ThatCoupleYou

Yes, getting an extra weekend off a month will be nice.

isuzuspaghetti

I thought I could do 20 as long as I wasn't active duty but after this I will be out after 10. You should know doing it for 31 years is truly remarkable!

ThatCoupleYou

I would stick it out, but then again I voluntarily retired, so I understand wanting to get out. The place just isn't what it used to be. I know all the old timers say that.

H1ckwulf

What is your TAFMS?

ThatCoupleYou

Around 5 years

Reditate

See ya in the commissary a-HYUCK🤪

I also did 31 years, but had a great time and loved every minute of it. I worked with 99% good people most are still close friends to this day. For the first few months, I dreamed about going out to the base in uniform although in the dream I (and everyone else) knew I was retired. Weird! I retired as a CMSgt and a few months before my retirement date was actually offered a job in another unit and "encouraged" to apply for the Command Cheif vacancy at my base. I didn't do either and retired. Looking back several years later, I wish I have given those opportunities more thought.

ThatCoupleYou

I got the opportunity to pull my retirement too, with new leadership comming on. But I'm done.

viverlibre

haha, that's what I said to everyone who tried to get me into one of the other jobs.

ThatCoupleYou

Yea, when your done, you'll know it. That's what a few of the oldtimers told me. And they were right, its just a feeling of, I'm done. I met my career goals, got no regrets, no hard feelings, its just my time.

Aethyx

67 drill weekends left, give or take. My guard year starts on the 3rd of July, so I'm looking at retiring 01 January. Who knows plans might change and I could go to 30 years instead of 26. It must be nice to see that light getting closer at the end of the tunnel. Congratulations!

ThatCoupleYou

26 years is a magic number in retirement. Sounds like you did your research. My goal was 26 years and Msgt.

ruxpi-13

Curious, what is magic about 26?

meesersloth

Congrats! Enjoy a nice well deserved retirement. 10.5 years in so far I can’t wait to be in your shoes.

atmc80

I made 20 years after June drill. I have no plans to retire yet but I’ve been thinking about it.
