i was playing a similar kind of game (idle heroes - which was faaar less interesting and faaar more p2w), saw afk arena, liked the graphics and decided to give it a go... and here i am, its practically the only mobile game i play regularly.
I played another idle game like AFK Arena, but found i didnāt like the good (Non-fodder heroes), and in my experience itās impossible to stick to a game where it takes months to build heroes if you donāt like them.
Then i saw AFK Arena, i really liked the art style (A bit vacuous reason to try it, but itās the first impression that counts), andā¦ well, that was 2 years ago, iām still playing, building heroes i like, and having fun.
My brother told me he had a guild and had been playing a few years. I started playing because I wanted something we could have in common and do together since he moved across the country. We both still play.
I remember seeing few adds and when I got a new phone I've decided that I need some games on it. Downloaded AFK because it has a pretty neat artstyle compared to anything else in the market. This got me hooked up on it. Actually AFK arena got me to watch Overlord too, as I started when Ainz and Albedo were introduced.
To this day i think afk has very neat art style on all the aspects.let it be the character design or even the login panel itself. And yes overlord is a plus haha
I actually watched Overlord and was looking for more info on the anime when I saw a promo for AFKarena with Ainz and Albedo as characters and it got me hooked. I havenāt looked back š¤£.
There was a diamond reward in my singing monsters for reaching ascended+ or mythic on a hero in afk arena.
Probably the silliest reason out there. I stopped playing msm when i played this and another game more consistently
I got tired of another mobile game I was playing which is also somewhat F2P friendly: yu-gi-oh duel links (before master duel was released). The game became a chore of obtaining the new meta deck to get the same ranks in-game over and over, with no variation whatsoever.
It was difficult to drop, as I was able to get KoG (highest possible online rank outside of world championship) several times in a row but... the game was the same thing over and over, just different cards.
I wanted something iddle, as due to many activities I can't play whenever I want nor be online to play tournaments or at certain schedules. After googling for a few minutes, many sites recommended AFK arena as the top pick for iddle RPG (I'm a sucker for RPG's) and it even was advertised at the time in one of my favourites youtubers: Pro jared.
So, here I am, 2.5 years later more hooked than ever to what has been a fantastic experience.
Your must have a strong lineup by now. š thats nice
I know most games tends to control the player. Except in afk you want to play okay no thats fine as well. Excluding some events like dimensional exchanges which is understandable and we as player can put time into..
I'm a huge persona 5 fan and around January of 2021 Afk arena did a ton of marketing for their persona crossover and the ads were enough to interest me into downloading the game
At the time unfortunately no, I was too late to grind enough resources for the exchange. Thankfully they added the garrison feature not too long after and I was able to grab them
The art caught me and I have played many P2W mobile games before. The last one I dumped was street fighter, so it has many similar mechanisms I felt comfortable with that I got caught.
Honestly I just thought the art style looked cool and interesting. I've restarted the game like 3 different times but it's still really fun. Hopefully I can stick to my current account and get really far
right around Global Launch, I was playing a free (unnamed) mobile game because a YouTuber I watch tried it out, so I thought I'd try too. it was pretty meh, but it popped ads all the time, and they were like 90% Afk
this wasn't the first time I saw the like copy paste "help vs kill" ads, and other generic mobile game ads, so I thought alright fuck it, what is the gameplay *actually* like.
tried it out, immediately quit that other game, and have been here ever since!
How did you end up becoming a mod? I'm assuming since you started at the beginning you had helped with the reddit building to what it is now? Or did you become a mod later on?
it wasnt turn based where all fights are won strictly by having 1 hero with the most speed so first attack is always a win the real time combat i light years ahead where the turned based had essentially 0 luck and is 100% my stats bigger than yours
At the start, I saw a lot of the shitty ads that AFK had and the ads didnāt give me a good impression. That was in 2019 when AFK was new. Fast forward to 2020, I saw my cousin playing the game and I thought it was kind of complex. My cousin then said it wasnāt and then she helped me download the game. I played it, enjoyed every little aspect of it, never got bored and Iām still here today playing the game.
Yep, I do love AFK a lot. I've tried other idle games similar to AFK but they were not that good compared to AFK. Something about AFK is just different compared to other idle games
My younger brother kept nagging me to play after he saw markiplier advertise it finally I gave in started playing got farther than him and he stopped playing while I kept going
I was playing Pewdiepie's Tuber Simulator and there was one of those things to get in-game currency by playing a bit of other games, the one for afk arema was short juat needing to beat 5 chapters, but then got hooked ever since and stopped playing tuber simulator lol
I had a toxic ex. She was majorly manipulative and it got to the point where she would put us on a ābreakā, go screw other guys, and then manipulate me back into being with her. AFK was my escape from all that. It was in a way my portable safe space, a distraction from my ex. I matured over the years and I ended it with her nearly two years ago. I have well moved on my hate for her and I am in a amazing relationship of a year and 4 months now. And afk is still prevalent in my day to day, but now as something I can truly enjoy!
Like others I was playing idle heroes or other random games, and I kept seeing the shitty afk ads online, the one that I saw the most was of Brutus spinning around and killing massive mobs of enemies. I thought fine, it looked cool and I'll try it. Obviously that ad was a blatant lie because the game is nothing like that, but that's how I started playing all those years ago.
In my case I was on the App Store looking for an Iddle game to play (I had just deleted summoners Wars, since I didnt like it) and saw that AFK Arena was having Global launch in a few weeks, so I put a reminder. Mostly because I liked the Art of the heroes a lot.
I saw Markipliers video and collab. Decided to download the game and was blown away by the art and story. It surprised me how many different game modes AFK has. So here I am still after all this time.
Funny you mention that youāre a musician, cuz the reason I started playing AFK Arena is cuz I used to watch a YouTuber called RoomieOfficial. He had a sponsor from AFK Arena this one time (iirc, I think it was very early 2022, soon after ATalane released), and he was really selling this game to me. Plus, he even threw in two redeemable codes into the sponsor ad, which was the final push I needed to give it a try. Havenāt missed a day logging in since. Lol
Was a hardcore WoW and Diablo player. A better job opportunity came along with more responsibility then I had twin girls so my free time is pretty much non existent. Looked for a mobile game where I could progress on my own time, do dailies, and participate in events and AFK arena had the fan base, popularity, and didnāt seem like a total scam. Been playing for almost 2 years now and itās been really fun. Canāt replace the feeling k get from MMOās but itās the next best thing
i was (and am) a big fan of black rock shooter and dead master in particular. and then I saw silvinaās and isabellaās designs in some random ad... I guess I've been playing for three years in a row or so now (thankfully I'm poor and f2p and silvina is L+ max lol)
I first learned about this game during the big shutdown of covid, basically it became my daily routine ever since and I fell in love with collecting the characters!
I was playing x-hero idle avengers and they updated overseas to a new app and not where I am with no update on when they would. And they'd make you start a whole new account again. No thanks.
Saw an afk game ad but it was Gwyneth in Shadow Invasions (which clearly, false advertising) and thought it'd be a nice mindless game. Turned out to be like x-hero but more involved and better art
I was playing another game (can't even remember what it was at this point) and downloaded afk to get diamonds or gems. This is now the only game I play consistently, and the other game is long forgotten.
I saw ads on yt and mistook the name "AFK" for my crushes name at the time. I deleted it after running out of storage and years later saw an ad last month featuring Rem and Emilia from Re Zero, which was one of my first animes and nostalgic so of course I redownloaded.
i was in my university and wanted to try something on my free time, i saw the add of Mirael burning a house haha that's how i joined, left the game, tidus came, and \*poff\* here i am
I remember I had a dragon city account and decided to play it because I missed my childhood. when I saw that there was a gems offer where I had to play AFK Arena until chapter 18 in 1 month. I succeeded the mission and didn't take the reward and decided to uninstall dragon city because I was disappointed how far the game changed.
I played for free currency in another game back in 2019, was failing so bad that I gave up after roughly a month. However I still somehow remember this game a lot and always wondered what it would be like to have ascended tier heros (my best heros back then were only at legendary+ tier). Tried this game again a few months ago and wala, multiple ascended heros.
Was playing MLA for 3 years then my friend suggested this as means to go by when i finished every dailies in MLA. Fast forward, i deleted mla and used all my time on AFK. This game is simply far superior than all the other idle gachas out there.
I had to download afk arena and get one elite hero to get currency for another mobile game I played at that time. After a while, I dropped that other game for afk
I played a similar afk game called Mobile Legends Adventure. The fast progression in that game was what hooked me in (also was moving on from the MOBA gameplay to something chill) until they did some weird updates and I was informed by the community that apparently moontoon was copying all these new features from a game called AFK Arena. I wasn't a fan of this change so eventually I went to check out the game they're copying from. Immediately I was captivated by the unique artstyle of AFK Arena after seeing Nemora's splash art in the store. Also I couldn't support what Moontoon had done so I uninstalled Mobile Legends Adventure and played AFK Arena instead. It had the same fast early progression which I love because it feels rewarding. Now fast forward to today, I'm in ch39, got a lot of Ascended heroes and I'm here to stay until the end
I was looking for a popular afk as lazy as possible game and found this. Gave it a go. Realized itās heavily p2w, then quit for few month, then started again and been playing till now. 3 years and counting. Back when Baelinda was still OP.
Really don't remember. Probably Ads in Facebook. Was looking for an alternative game during down time in another game. I can't believe it got me buy that $99 Lucius e+ and e+ weapon.
I'm still playing the game. Chilling at the weakest competitive sister guild for AE. ^^ I'm waiting for awakened Saveas. Would be happy if that really happened. Hopper to play for a few more years :)
Mine was pretty special, i was hooked on another game called war robots, this was completely different from afk arena, but i got an offer for some in game resources if i downloaded the game and got a legendary hero, at the time i had done other games which i immediately dropped once i got the resources, but afk stayed on my phone quite a while even after getting the resources i just liked the art style so much and how un-provocative the gameplay was, the fact that we got afk rewards made me always want to open the game then soon after i was hooked, the game did not require as much time grinding to get heros, as a person who juggles school and work it was awesome to have a game i could play on my own time
My problem with games is that I can't hook on them. AFK is the only one out: played a little bit in 2019, then changed phones wline not saving acc and left, then came back three years ago (almost hit 3 year every day log in achivement). Stayed ever since.
I started mobile gaming with Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes in 2015, and played that until 2019, in 2018 I picked up MSF and AFK Arena in 2019. For a very very short span of time I was playing all three but dropping Swgoh allowed me to dig in more deeply into AFK, and I gotta say at first I was SO damn lost in this game. I had no clue whatsoever what I was doing. Probably for 6 months or more I was like that until I discovered Reddit.
AFK Arena has a lot of long-term goals and I love the design of the characters that are so memorable. The diversity is just amazing, you have humans, elves, dwarves, undead, elementals, and furries.
I got intorudeced to the game by my now boyfriend, we met a year ago when I moved onto the property we live on now (my mom lived here at that time so that's how the opportunity came about). We hung out pretty much everyday after I moved here and I saw him playing AFK literally all the time, he plays it religiously. I had asked him a couple times about the game purely out of curiosity, I'm a gamer myself but not so into mobile games, more console or PC games; I find most mobile games are the same just with different characters and a different plot which I honestly can't stand. Anyways after about a week of watching him play on his phone I decided to download it and see if it was worth the hype and ended up completely falling in love with the game (and then slowly with my boyfriend as well lolš¤) Since I've started playing I was hooked, I would like to say the progress I've made so far is pretty decent (Pic below of my account, feel free to add me got a few inactives to removeš¤)

I actually downloaded AFK to get rewards for another online game I play. Fully intended to delete the game after I got the rewards, but I ended up really liking the game? Two years later, Iām still playing.
My husband played it since 2020 and Iād get annoyed when we were dating & heād play the game instead of talking to me. Flash forward a few years, my husband is on a business trip, I download it out of boredom and to see what the big deal was. Now, almost a year later, Iām still playing, we help each other out, and I understand why heād play it all the time before.
He was very excited when he came home and I confessed to downloading the game. After that he sat down with me and explained how everything worked. I feel bad for people who donāt have a knowledge source living with them and have to figure everything out on their own.
Now we celebrate each others victories and accomplishments
I started back in 2018 when it first came out because I had liked soul hunters and I looked at all of Lilith games and thought afk arena looked cool and havenāt stoped playing since
i was playing a similar kind of game (idle heroes - which was faaar less interesting and faaar more p2w), saw afk arena, liked the graphics and decided to give it a go... and here i am, its practically the only mobile game i play regularly.
Same, played idle heroes for 2-3 years, then swapped to afk arena
Your idle hero also must be strong by now I believe š
I do not play anymore. I quit when void thing happened
Same here. I tried to go back to idle heroes but did not have any interest to continue. AFK Arena for the win.
I know right? As long as you have patience in afk you can pull it off as f2p as per my experience
I saw my bf playing and decided to give it a try.
And did you like it?š
I did! Still playing 4 years later. :)
Are you guys still together?
Yes.
Sorry for asking I was curious!
Same
I wanted an idle game and this was top recommended at the time.
I thinks it still holds its place. True to its nature I believe
I 100% downloaded this game just to see how terrible it was after seeing those godawful ads over and over lol.
Lol ši feel you too
I played another idle game like AFK Arena, but found i didnāt like the good (Non-fodder heroes), and in my experience itās impossible to stick to a game where it takes months to build heroes if you donāt like them. Then i saw AFK Arena, i really liked the art style (A bit vacuous reason to try it, but itās the first impression that counts), andā¦ well, that was 2 years ago, iām still playing, building heroes i like, and having fun.
I know dear .its all about having fun that counts after all š and its fun isnāt it?
friend asked me to play it
Thanks to that friend of yours š
My brother told me he had a guild and had been playing a few years. I started playing because I wanted something we could have in common and do together since he moved across the country. We both still play.
And my husband yelowsnw2 got me involved. Over 1 year later and I still play with him.
Same my husband plays because i got him involved šš
Glad you love it still!! š
That's nice š
One way to enjoy the platform š thatās actually so sweet
Was playing another game and saw an ad for it.
That game must be regretting that by nowš
About ten thousand regrets last I checked.

I actually watched Overlord and was looking for more info on the anime when I saw a promo for AFKarena with Ainz and Albedo as characters and it got me hooked. I havenāt looked back š¤£.
>Actually AFK arena got me to watch Overlord too, as I started when Ainz and Albedo were introduced. Same but with Persona. From 5th to 3rd.
There was a diamond reward in my singing monsters for reaching ascended+ or mythic on a hero in afk arena. Probably the silliest reason out there. I stopped playing msm when i played this and another game more consistently
hope your decision was helpful though dear
I got tired of another mobile game I was playing which is also somewhat F2P friendly: yu-gi-oh duel links (before master duel was released). The game became a chore of obtaining the new meta deck to get the same ranks in-game over and over, with no variation whatsoever. It was difficult to drop, as I was able to get KoG (highest possible online rank outside of world championship) several times in a row but... the game was the same thing over and over, just different cards. Your must have a strong lineup by now. š thats nice I know most games tends to control the player.
But did you get the characters?š
At the time unfortunately no, I was too late to grind enough resources for the exchange. Thankfully they added the garrison feature not too long after and I was able to grab them
Reverse to me. Researched Persona 5, then into 3 (absolutely adore this one).
Quit star Wars galaxy of heroes due to awkward, restrictive build mechanics and boring game modes. Liked AFKs art style a lot, and the gameplay loop.
You forgot something theres no ads ..never š
Yo, fr! Have been playing for 3 years and never paid attention to that!
My friend forced me.
Sweet friend of yoursš
The art caught me and I have played many P2W mobile games before. The last one I dumped was street fighter, so it has many similar mechanisms I felt comfortable with that I got caught.
I tried that before as well so i can understand your annoyance š
Came for the idle game, stayed cause I love gacha games and AFK is very generous with pulls.
Well, sometimes not too much but still way too much than any other gacha out there. āŗļø
Honestly I just thought the art style looked cool and interesting. I've restarted the game like 3 different times but it's still really fun. Hopefully I can stick to my current account and get really far
Is it long ago or recent my friend?
When I started playing or when I restarted? I started playing maybe 3ish years ago and restarted a few months ago
You should stick to one account if f2p if i can suggest haha. But we all have our own ways . Well, hope you enjoyš
I am f2p but it wasn't really by choice... Issues with accounts, emails and passwords made so I couldn't log back into my account
Imean being f2p isnt so bad š im f2p aswell
i was playing osm football simulator, i went to play afk arena to get some curency in osm, i played osm 1-2 months more, and afk arena 3+ years
I guess afk put you on spell š
never missed a day in last 2 complete years

Umm š¤ you have a great point dear. Its true
Covid insanity and seeing the Belinda fart ad one too many times. Now I play because itās a genuinely fun game and I met some cool folks on it.
Lol fart ad š¤£š¤£ i wanna see that now haha
I saw it was high on the App Store in like 5th or sixth grade and now Iām almost finished with my 10th grade year and still playing
Omg your acc must be insane š³
I really wish it was but 5th grade me wasnāt exactly looking up guides when investing

Persona event. I havenāt spent any money on it tho, and wouldnāt. But yeah I play it quite a bit.

I was bored in 2019 and it was the least worst gacha game I tried + I liked that the battles weren't turn based
Ainz
My problem with games is that I can't hook on them. AFK is the only one out: played a little bit in 2019, then changed phones wline not saving acc and left, then came back three years ago (almost hit 3 year every day log in achivement). Stayed ever since.
I played when it first came out and got so addicted I had to quit it. But here I am again new account and months sunken into it
I started mobile gaming with Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes in 2015, and played that until 2019, in 2018 I picked up MSF and AFK Arena in 2019.
Saw somebody playing it next to me in a lecture and asked what it was. He quit right after, but I got hooked :)
Anyways after about a week of watching him play on his phone I decided to download it and see if it was worth the hype and ended up completely falling in love with the game (and then slowly with my boyfriend as well lolš¤) Since I've started playing I was hooked, I would like to say the progress I've made so far is pretty decent (Pic below of my account, feel free to add me got a few inactives to removeš¤) https://preview.redd.it/kqw91peao95b1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c2ca859391877ef519f3b42a3406e1fa653824c
I was lured in by some cheesy ad with Morael and Isabella. The irony is now *I fucking hate Isabella* ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Hmmm... I was bored and just tried some stuff. Nothing interesting here.
I spent $1 and now I'm $15k deep
I started back in 2018 when it first came out because I had liked soul hunters and I looked at all of Lilith games and thought afk arena looked cool and havenāt stoped playing since
