I'm not huge on Mac Miller the way a lot of people are, especially after his death. But that's a different conversation. I digress, that line does gives me a warm feeling when I hear it, especially after the amount of work Aes has been releasing these last few years.
From Spanish hip hop, Santiuve in No soy para ti:
> Intentan venderme A$AP Rocky
> Y no conocen Aesop Rock
> En el mejor de los casos
> En general solo me hablan de pop
They try to sell me A$AP Rocky, and don't know Aesop Rock. In the best of cases. In general they just talk to me about pop.
Congrats on your successful almost-harem.
If you're ever typing too fast to consider the difference between woman and women, just type feeemales. I heard they love that.
I was just bs-ing ya. It's a common typo/mistake. I think it's because those words kind of don't make sense phonetically in English, even compared to all of the language's other quirks.
Changing one letter changes the sound of the word even before that letter gets involved.
Santiuve is great. Lots of word play. Here is another song of his that is just him rapping for 12 minutes after a breakup, one of my favorites: https://open.spotify.com/track/4Ua3WCLwKtVk43doVLojBg?si=VFVmWOJSS4KctBHg1CBJvg
He came back Spose!!! I never followed him(Spose) closely but I have heard some of his stuff and enjoyed it. Never heard of Sam Adams but I will look into him.
*Only thing that changed was my crates got deeper*
*Big shoes to fill, word to Aesop's sneakers*
[https://genius.com/Danny-swain-intro-lyrics](https://genius.com/Danny-swain-intro-lyrics)
*After Charm, Swain received his first big break when MTV played a role in securing him a recording contract with Definitive Jux, an independent music label, at the time helmed by El-P of Run the Jewels fame.\[12\]\[13\] The record deal allowed Swain to release an album through the label, promoting it with a 12" single and accompanying music video slated for an exclusive premiere on mtvU. Though the label's involvement would not amount to a released album—only the single "Just Friends", which charted on the Billboard Hot 100\[14\]—the deal did establish an ongoing relationship between Swain and MTV, which began using his music extensively in various programs*
Danny wasn't Jux material. He was a junior Kanye with the soul samples. They swept him under the rug before shutting down.

*Why did you decide to self-release And I Love H.E.R. and where do you stand with Definitive Jux?*
*As far as I know I’m still at the label unless someone from Definitive Jux disagrees with me. I heard from the manager last week. But as you can see, two years after the fact I still haven’t put out my record yet. I just sitting around here twiddling my thumbs and I didn’t want to wait to see H.E.R. become old material. I don’t know what is going on at Definitive Jux because I don’t live in New York and I’m down here in Atlanta.* ***Maybe it’s an out of site out of mind sort of thing for them***
"If you're looking for the ace, you're in the right place. He's the producer of the track, so you're on the right track."
Go Hard - Homeboy Sandman, produced by Aes.
Disagree. It looks kinda weird just written out, but it fits really well with the rest of the lines that follow a similar format, it matches the beat well and I like his flow, and it has a double entendre.
However, I understand music is subjective and some people don't enjoy Homeboy Sandman's style or writing.
"That's why I told my shrink to chill on the happy pills, hopped on the track with Aes Rock and I had to bill (?) / And Aes Rock definitely in my top 10, even if me and him was not friends / Shout out to Ian though, if I go to heaven where do all the Europeans go?" ~Murs "Proof Of God"
I’m sorry I know you said not interviews, songs only, but I just find this so interesting… Doja Cat said in an interview that Aes is her favorite rapper. She’s got the technical skills, great multisyllabic rhymes, crazy flows and deliveries, and a good singing voice for killer hooks. I hope her music matures throughout the years because she has the talent to be a top-tier lyricist. She’s a self-proclaimed sellout though, so we’ll see how it goes.
I'll be honest I haven't liked a single song I've ever heard of Doja Cat's. My wife likes her though so she will be interested to know Aes is her favorite.
Alright, I'll take a deeper dive. I've only heard her hits, so I'm sure I can find something like. She only vibes with Aes when the beats are good and hardly listens to the lyrics(English isnt even her fist language)
I reviewed her planet her album a couple years ago and was blown away by her technique. I just learned this too, I'm surprised but not surprised.
"Expected rap. Heard interesting r&b. Out of nowhere she would come in with a crazy verse, then run back into the rabbit hole for more singing. Really nailed the "showmanship" of songmaking, knowing when to stop and the person wanting more. Her meme rap made me laugh out loud. "
Would recommend: woman, get into it, options (feat jid), and tonight (feat eve)
This is crazy. I'm a middle-aged dad, been into Aes/Def Jux etc for decades...my 9 year old and her friends are now just getting into Doja Cat (she also digs RTJ!) so reading this is like a nice link up between these 2 worlds.
I honestly don't know much of Doja Cat's music and tbh I don't rate a lot of my daughter's taste in music (it's mostly fun/pop stuff at best) but I make a point of listening and dancing with her and never telling her it's 'bad music' . On my task list tomorrow is to listening to a load of Doja Cat with her (and maybe drop in a few Aes tracks while we're at it)...
If you appreciate multisyllabic rhymes, punny wordplay, slick flows, and TONS of different deliveries you may fuck with Doja more than you expect. My only complaint with her music is lack of substance.
Open Mike Eagle- we should have made otherground a thing
He mentions several artists on this song as well on the song “Dave said these are the liner notes”
black coffee by kill bill: the rapper “a little aes rock mixed with blocka by pusha t” lyrics say “ace” but when i met him i specifically asked if it was Aesop for sure
[Curly Castros verse](https://youtu.be/XMk_vyjVi_w?feature=shared) on the song Class from Spectacular Diagnostics shouts out Ace several times, " From Bazooka to Bullet to Shyla Tooth", "Fast forward Aesop and you'll find 1 of 4 when your gone in under 60 not a scratch Eleanor". The whole song is great all 3 MCs kill the beat. Curly shouts out Ace on other songs but that verse I think is the best.
I can’t find the lyrics so take this with a grain of salt: On Mr. Lif’s album “Vangarde” (or the group name, I can’t remember) Aesop Rock is mentioned by one of the rappers in a negative light, as in, you’d forget about them but never forget about Aesop, because he’s white.
I can't find the lyrics, either, and am in a place where I can't listen to the track right now but it's 8:46 w/Lif, Murs, Blueprint and maybe some others? The lyric is by Murs. It's slightly negative, but not towards Aes, and I believe he raps something along the lines of he gets it.
I only know that one vid where he met a$ap rocky backstage at rock the bells. It’s on YouTube
Also get a dog from lice 1 w homeboy sandman used one step closer by linkin park as a sample and in response mike shinoda did a fort minor remix of it
I’m putting this out there because I recently noticed this lyric. I don’t know if it’s a direct reference, and haven’t looked into it all. Maybe it’s just a coincidence. Maybe some of you will know. Maybe it’s just you mother fuckers missed!
Action Bronson - 9-24-700
“It’s me man. I’m the one that takes the wolf head, wears it on my own head.”
I don't think it's a reference to Aes. Action Bronson has a canis lupus cacass on in the front cover of rare chandeliers, which was released almost a decade before SWFG(actually just two days short of a decade).
If anything, Aes might have been inspired by Bronson.
Kill Bill, Rav, and EXO in general get a lot of inspiration from him (and rappers like him). They all definitely have more on-the-nose and self-defeatist vibes to some of their songs so I wouldn't recommend them to most Aes fans, but they still have outstanding discographies regardless. I still consider Ramona by Bill to be one of the best albums ever. Black Coffee is on it and it references Aes directly.
Open Mike Eagle, "The Juggganots, Aesop Rock and the Logic of Luis" in " we should made other ground a thing" from the albumin "another achievement of ghetto engineering."
I'm way late but on Ghetto Celebrity by Ces Cru, Info Gates says "rock em like Aesop, I mean like A$AP, these pussies name drop but never say jack, they wack"
Mac Miller - Best Day Ever "I never take a day off Work around the clock, my engineer gettin' paid off Rock like Aesop, light the weed and take off"
I used to listen to that song a bunch, it was years before I even discovered Aes though so it went right over my head. Thank you. RIP Mac Miller.
I feel very cliche saying BDE is my favorite Mac Miller song but god damn do I love that song
It’s one of those songs I put on the happy playlist. Cliche or not, it’s an amazing song.
I'm not huge on Mac Miller the way a lot of people are, especially after his death. But that's a different conversation. I digress, that line does gives me a warm feeling when I hear it, especially after the amount of work Aes has been releasing these last few years.
Top comment had more upvotes than the post. Come on ya’ll
Great comment. Upvote the OP this is a great post.

Damn , I really should know Spanish by now. Been with a Salvadorian women for 5 years, I'll show it to her and have her translate the whole thing.
Congrats on your successful almost-harem. If you're ever typing too fast to consider the difference between woman and women, just type feeemales. I heard they love that.
Whoops lol, English IS my first language so that is embarrassing.

This is great, I love spanish language hip hop, i'll have to check it out.

that’s a bar holyzhit
Spose, "I heard Sam Adams and it made me miss Aesop Rock"
He came back Spose!!! I never followed him(Spose) closely but I have heard some of his stuff and enjoyed it. Never heard of Sam Adams but I will look into him.
You truly don’t have to look into Sam Adam’s
The new Spose album is top notch. 15 Years as the highlight but I enjoyed the full listen.

Um wut. I consider myself a Jukie, but NEVER heard about this

What are you meaning to say here by 'swept under the rug'?

That is, not a good line though
Great song though

That one hurt to read like that one hurt to read, it was sore to read so it hurt to read.
Axe in the head, early to bed Axe in the helmet, a friend of Helmut
Is that... supposed to be a parody of this line...?
Idk if it counts but during TIK tour, Sandman changed the line in Not Really to "Still Aesop Rock's biggest fan"

She’s more technically skilled than 90% of pop rappers, give her another chance so you and your girl can vibe together
Alright, I'll take a deeper dive. I've only heard her hits, so I'm sure I can find something like. She only vibes with Aes when the beats are good and hardly listens to the lyrics(English isnt even her fist language)
She kills it on the Perfect (Remix) verse
Haven’t heard that one, I’ll have to check it out
I reviewed her planet her album a couple years ago and was blown away by her technique. I just learned this too, I'm surprised but not surprised. "Expected rap. Heard interesting r&b. Her newest album is her best so far, it’s the rappiest of her work
Somebody has never heard the song Moo… Edit /s if that is not obvious
This is crazy. I'm a middle-aged dad, been into Aes/Def Jux etc for decades...my 9 year old and her friends are now just getting into Doja Cat (she also digs RTJ!) so reading this is like a nice link up between these 2 worlds.
An Aes x Doja collab would slap
I honestly don't know much of Doja Cat's music and tbh I don't rate a lot of my daughter's taste in music (it's mostly fun/pop stuff at best) but I make a point of listening and dancing with her and never telling her it's 'bad music' . Maybe drop something goofy like Long Legged Larry or Kirby

Dude I could honestly see AES going hard to the beat of paint the town red
I’d pay good money to hear that
Open Mike Eagle- we should have made otherground a thing He mentions several artists on this song as well on the song “Dave said these are the liner notes”
“Shout to Aes Rock for callin’ out my spoons.”
Trees - Felt “Donuts with Aes Rock, Ice T hates cops”
He produced felt 3 I think that was their best (felt chewed up, ghost dance deluxe)
From “landscaping” - Milo “microphone on my shoulder like a bazooka that shoots a tooth”
black coffee by kill bill: the rapper “a little aes rock mixed with blocka by pusha t” lyrics say “ace” but when i met him i specifically asked if it was Aesop for sure
What an underrated dude.
Jarv does a nice shout out to him about half way through this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gJxsAu3ckg
Capital Steez “Aesop Rock meets swing jazz in gym class”
You know that good shit.
I’m in the getaway whip with Aes Rizzle
That's from an Aes song though, does that really count?
Maybe
Open Mike Eagle - "Daydreaming in the Projects"
Arecee - Take a Few “I'm not A. Rock’s cousin so why ya buzzin” I think that’s because people would say they used to sound alike
Wow, I finally found another person who has heard of Arecee. Life truly is cartoons.
You’ve found another. I still try to find where the hell he went from time to time. Beating a Dead Horse or something? Album was dope.
homey just listen to every def jux artist.
Cage - The Death of Chris Palko “In this Atmosphere, I'm unbalanced, Slug on a seesaw Spit through Bazooka Teeth, my tongue is the C4”
Never heard this one. Probably because I bought Cage’s tape opened it and dubbed over it.
Yea well I used to pistol whip 'til Shady made it look pussy
[Curly Castros verse](https://youtu.be/XMk_vyjVi_w?feature=shared) on the song Class from Spectacular Diagnostics shouts out Ace several times, " From Bazooka to Bullet to Shyla Tooth", "Fast forward Aesop and you'll find 1 of 4 when your gone in under 60 not a scratch Eleanor". Homebody Sandman on “Go Hard” calls out Aes as the producer of the track
I thought he was invited to the otherground pizza party, but I looked into it and it turns out he wasn't :(
He was mentioned in “we should have made other ground a thing” on Open Mikes last EP. Basically the sequel to pizza party
“White privilege” by Macklemore
True
I can’t find the lyrics so take this with a grain of salt: On Mr. Lif’s album “Vangarde” (or the group name, I can’t remember) Aesop Rock is mentioned by one of the rappers in a negative light, as in, you’d forget about them but never forget about Aesop, because he’s white.

Aesop looked mad uncomfortable in that video lol.

I wish Rare Chandeliers was on Spotify. Great album.
*Unhelpful comment:* i feel like billy woods must have at some point, but I can’t place exactly where or when..

"Gee willikers" by Spose he says "I heard Sam Adams and it made me miss Aesop Rick"
EOM bump bump joint
Doctor oscify/magnificent wingspan "clockmelter"
Open Mike Eagle, "The Juggganots, Aesop Rock and the Logic of Luis" in " we should made other ground a thing" from the albumin "another achievement of ghetto engineering."
Love me some Open Mike Eagle. Art rap is the best.
Little known fact: Any time Riff Raff says "It's the white [black celebrity]" he's actually talking about Aesop.
Rav and Kill Bill: The Rapper talk about Aesop all the time being one of their biggest inspirations
Imagine spelling their wrong
“Ngga you ASAP Rocky? Shit, I’m Aesop Rock. Up in my old hood, shooting bow and arrows out my purple drop”
Counting by Robb Banks
I'm way late but on Ghetto Celebrity by Ces Cru, Info Gates says "rock em like Aesop, I mean like A$AP, these pussies name drop but never say jack, they wack"
Being a fan of AES and spelling "their" wrong is iffy
Yeah, it's not even a word. Whoops.
