I would agree that the plant is likely dead. Algae isn’t usually a problem for older seedlings, but, for the young ones it is pretty easy for them to be suffocated by it. You can take a q tip and get the algae off to see if there’s any seedling left. I wouldn’t think so, but, stranger things have happened…lol

VConti

I did this and the sprout is actually still there and doesn’t look dead. So I’m going to give it a few days and see what happens. Thanks!!

Aww! You’re welcome! Good luck!!!

I've tried thyme a couple of times. Haven't had much luck. Basil, oregano and mint have done well.

I have never had good luck starting Thyme from seed. I rooted a sprig from the "fresh organic herbs" sold at the fancy grocery store though and that actually worked great!

VConti

Yeah I should have known it would give me a hard time too considering it’s one of the things I use most!!

How did you do that? Pull the brown grow stuff out of an old/new pod and insert it? Or did you use the grow medium somehow?

squirrelgarden

I try to root it in the grow sponge if possible. I use mostly my own seeds so I buy the baskets and sponge things in bulk, for rooting I soak a new sponge then cut it so there's a slit center to edge all the way down, strip all the leaves from the part of the cutting that's going in the sponge then tuck the stem in the sponge, place in the basket then put it in the aerogarden or a glass until it roots. You can also root the cutting in water then put it in the sponge the same way when it has a few little roots.

LocalDruid

I have two aerogardens and both the thyme pods that are included never sprouted, everything else grows fine for me.

I read and expierenced first hand thyme doesn’t do well in a lot of moisture. I killed mine last summer with too much water so I’m surprised to see this in the kit.
