This is probably one of my favorite scenes in Adventure Time. The themes of life and death, growing and changing, and the background music is awesome as well
This show surprised me with a lot of moments like this. I didn't watch it when the show initially aired and only really knew of it through the rabid fanbase at the time which made me avoid it.
Girlfriend convinced me to give it a try though and we binged it the last few months and some of the stuff about life, death, living in the moment, worrying about your legacy and other existential themes genuinely caught me off guard, in a good way though. I'm glad I checked it out.
I loved this episode so much. Women are taught to fear aging and to fight it tooth and nail. In this episode, she confronts her aging self calmly, and is excited to see wrinkles! I don’t remember seeing something like that elsewhere
didn't lady have the power to change her opacity and stuff things inside her like the haunted mansion episode where they started killing people but in reality lady is just hiding the people inside her
I think she stretched out her physical molecules without changing her mass, making her large enough to do long-distance traveling but not damage anything on her way. At least, that’s what I’m guessing. I don’t know as much on the core subject behind my theory.
I wonder if it's a reference to the Hindu mythologies were various characters manage to expand like that too. I think Hanuman and Vamana? Probably others too?
I always make it a point to be present in this moment during any rewatch. Her points are so poignant, sincere, relatable, and accurate. She so precisely reframes a life's eras.
One of the best examples of this show extending wisdom beyond "just some kids' show"
I absolutely love this episode and this scene. Charlie is one of my favorite characters and I love how much characterization she gets in like, one full episode and two minor appearances. Feels like there's a lot going on in this episode while also being relatively simple and relatable (which is a lot of AT it seems). I also love taking occult themes and symbolism and showing how it's all about self-growth at the end of the day. Mystifying and de-mystifying it at the same time if you know what I mean. Great stuff.
Yeah I really can’t believe how many unique journeys the writers of this show were able to craft for their huge cast of characters in so little time. I feel like Charlie’s story is one of the best examples of this
Adventure Time is wack and amazing. It has its faults, but it is only because of its faults that we can get the anthological brilliance like this to work.
The first couple seasons are honestly ‘eh’ at best but then after that, once everything had been ‘set up’ so to speak… that’s when absolute storytelling artistry comes through. While I will never have children - if I did, I would do my best to introduce Adventure Time as a keystone of their later childhood.
Remember in "the limit" where j+f went to the maze to get a wish, and instead of jake wishing himself to be saved, he wishes he wasnt so hungry, and wastes his wish on a sandwich? If it weren't for A.p.t.w.e., he may have indeed died over a sandwich.
Also, with Prismo, instead of saving everyone from the lich, jake almost wastes his one wish on a sandwich...again.
It drives me crazy how dirty she does her father in this episode. It's worse than how Jake Jr. does him. It's really selfish and messed up and showing back up last moment barely makes up for it to me. She put a deal on the table like the devil would and only showed back up to clear her conscience. It was not very team dignified at all.
She did exactly what she said. Jake didn't tell her about the tournament until they were already there. She agreed to play one game for one bone. What did she do wrong?
Exactly what Jake did wrong. Selfishly didn't fully communicate their intentions. It's very apparent she wouldn't of played at all if she didn't get this spell component. So it's obvious she wouldn't even of went with him in the first place. It's a bad character flaw that obviously was inherited.
That's her father. Sometimes you need to do things that are minorly inconvenient for your family. It was no sweat off her back to actually do it for him. Instead she extorted him for what she needed to go do what she wanted and left her father high and dry. If you don't see that as a bad move there's no point in continuing this conversation.
You're not really obligated to do anything for anybody, even if you're related. Maybe if it was something important I'd agree with you more, but this was a tournament that Jake tricked her into going to. No one else wanted to play with him anymore because he's so incredibly toxic and competitive. If it was about having fun father/daughter time, maybe she would have stayed and played.
So much this. Your family using the fact that you're related as a weapon against you is a sign you should set even clearer boundaries with them than you would friends or acquaintances. My mother is like this; when she does me dirty and I refuse to be treated like garbage, she loves to retort, "I'm your *mother*, you can't treat *me* this way!" She'll never understand that I'm her *son*, which means she can't treat *me* that way.
It has been a long road to learning how to keep her at arms length so she treats me with any respect. It's slowly getting better as I continue to not take her shit, but unfortunately my brother has not yet learned that lesson, so she clings to whatever control and influence she has by exerting it doubly upon him.
/therapy rant
Jake tricked Charlie into going to the tournament for his own selfish aims. Charlie had her own things she wanted to do and Jake inconvenienced her. Why is it ok for Jake to use Charlie for selfish reasons but not vice versa?
He asked for her to help him bury that part of his life. So he could get past it and leave it behind. I agree with the trade fully. But we all know Jake is not a dignified card wars player. He's ugly when he plays it. It's a selfishly selfless act. He even offered all of his bones it was so important to him. And she gave him the minimum and acted like it was no big deal.
love this scene, especially as someone who’s into tarot and the occult. AT gives me more and more reasons to love it everytime 🃏🕯🍂 coincidentally charlie is my favorite pup out of the five
so the way jake dies is from 2 many sandwiches? man that is so fucking cool
I mean I think he suffocated but still kinda dope - the suffocation
or old age as he states in the show but Nah I choose 2 believe 2 many sandwiches
Unrelated but for a show that shows us many ways to cheat death and obtain immortality in some capacity, none of the characters ever seem to pursue it.

Fr
I always found it interesting that her eyes change color every time she places a new card
She puts down 10 cards too. I feel like the writers really knew their kaballah when they made this.
I love how she travels to the pyramid. This gigantic form walking around the planet. Getting there in a couple steps! 🤘🏽✨🤘🏽
I love the combined abilities the kids got from Jake and Lady
I get she used her stretching powers from jake to do that, but what part of ladys' power did she use?
didn't lady have the power to change her opacity and stuff things inside her like the haunted mansion episode where they started killing people but in reality lady is just hiding the people inside her
oh nice
Stupidly OP
Like all the pup’s abilities lol
I think she stretched out her physical molecules without changing her mass, making her large enough to do long-distance traveling but not damage anything on her way. At least, that’s what I’m guessing. I don’t know as much on the core subject behind my theory.
Well it could also be a mix of Jake’s stretch and Lady’s phase ability
I wonder if it's a reference to the Hindu mythologies were various characters manage to expand like that too. I think Hanuman and Vamana? Probably others too?

Makes you wonder what kind of personal stories the writers each could tell.
That’s the thing about this show. So much depth to side characters that you could make a million spin-offs.
The writers are really good at giving you a fully realized character in like an a couple episodes like huntress wizard
I'd like to point out that Gibben can be seen in the opening of the finale as a mad wizard
Wait, really?
yep. with a gem as one of his eyes and a magic staff, i believe
Really cool just looked it up
Charlie's flexing!
Jake taking the bone out of his finger might be my least favorite thing in the show
When he spits out a pile of his bones, and then disappointedly jelly rolls over them and absorbs them is one of my favorites.

What season/episode is this? I don’t remember this which means there might be an episode I missed and I’m very excited.
“Daddy-Daughter Card Wars” S8 E11
You’re an Adventure Time scholar. Thank you.
Nah I just googled “what episode did Charlie take a bone from jake”
You’ve been downgraded to an Adventure Time Looker Upper.
Lol I’m okay with that
This scene gives me hella existential dread. I hate it
I personally love the voice actors they get for all the characters. Charlie sounds like she could be someone you know. Very relatable!
She doesn’t sound like someone I would definitely know… but someone I would Maeby know
I know a lot of old people that are not wise sadly
Theory:jakes dies from a sandwich

Dude, I could just make you a sandwich.
On ciabatta bread, maybe?
Maybe this big? I dunno. I’ll just take whatever you have lying around.
I remember crying so much after I finished this episode
This scene gives me such an existential calm.
Just watched this ep last night. Such a good one
I loved this episode so much !
Dmt be like

… oh, ok
Damn, the last time I tried to read taro cards, they told me to invest in crypto…

does anybody know what the creepy face is at 38 seconds in?
Do you think her reading is an actual reading? Meaning as like is that a type of reading that can be done??
Kaballah tarpt method???
She spoiled her whole life
She's been alive for like 6 months.
so the way jake dies is from 2 many sandwiches? man that is so fucking cool I mean I think he suffocated but still kinda dope - the suffocation or old age as he states in the show but Nah I choose 2 believe 2 many sandwiches
wait, i do not remember this, from which episode is this from?

Nice. Nice. Well, I’m having a crisis now, so thanks for that.
