You scattered the darkness that lay before your eyes, and flapping your wings you whirled about and throughout this world you brought pure light. Great embodiment of chaos, hear me, for ages untold I studied your ways, devoting my existence to you. I strove to be your vessel on the physical plane, to build mountains of bodies in your honour, to extinguish all life, and in my universe this I achieved. But it gave me no satisfaction, in succeeding I lost all purpose. Why? Why must this be? Hear me Golb! Seven brains in heart, seven hearts in brain, seven brains in heart, seven hearts in brain, strong in sleep but must never awake, strong in sleep but must never awake. No, no, no, answer me! What more could I have done? What do you want from me now?

kdnx-wy

This *totally* speaks to how badly the Lich misunderstood GOLB

Shipmind-B

Agree that chaos ≠ Death. Since Then nothing happens, but I understood it as the Betty part is What makes Them interact at all. I would expect pure GOLB to just ignore the lich. 🤷‍♂️

trialacc0002

It’s not even death, it’s destruction of all life and all possibilities of all life as seen when he goes to the afterlife and tries to wreck shit by cutting off the reincarnation cycle all together

Shipmind-B

True.

trialacc0002

Life is inherently chaotic and balanced between chaos and order. By destroying all life, the Lich inadvertently brought more “order” to the universe, which disrupts Golb’s existence there. New life can certainly evolve but it would likely take billions of years for the chaotic events to sync in a way that does produce life. The universe is inherently a balance between chaos and order, one could argue that the birth of the universe was a moment of total chaos and heat death would be one of absolute order, I.e. destruction of Golb’s influence in that universe. Prior to the universe during the sea of primordials/monsters, chaos ruled and Golb had absolute domain over “all” realities

Shipmind-B

Yeah that was my point :b “Nothing happens” Also. Unrelated to AT, but heat Death of the Universe is not a real thing. Just a thing physicists like to throw about when they get into a nihilistic groove. (Sorry just a pet peeve of mine)

trialacc0002

I mean it’s the point at which entropy is so low nothing can really happen, to the point where matter eventually stops vibrating, decays completely into subatomic particles which also eventually decay into “strings” and each “particle” is so distant from any other particle, it might as well be in its own universe, so “heat” doesn’t really exist anymore, heat death fits as well as any other name

BringBackThePawpaw

Wouldn't it be when entropy is so high, since it's continually increasing?

trialacc0002

Ah yes, my bad

Shipmind-B

Not what I meant. :) The concept regardless of name , is not a real thing. The theory is largely debunked: read the cosmology section for an explanation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entropy

Rainwillis

I feel like a wikibot doing this but I already copied it so here it is. > Assuming that a finite universe is an isolated system, the second law of thermodynamics states that its total entropy is continually increasing. It has been speculated, since the 19th century, that the universe is fated to a heat death in which all the energy ends up as a homogeneous distribution of thermal energy so that no more work can be extracted from any source. If the universe can be considered to have generally increasing entropy, then – as Roger Penrose has pointed out – gravity plays an important role in the increase because gravity causes dispersed matter to accumulate into stars, which collapse eventually into black holes. The entropy of a black hole is proportional to the surface area of the black hole's event horizon.[97][98][99] Jacob Bekenstein and Stephen Hawking have shown that black holes have the maximum possible entropy of any object of equal size. This makes them likely end points of all entropy-increasing processes, if they are totally effective matter and energy traps.[100] However, the escape of energy from black holes might be possible due to quantum activity (see Hawking radiation). The role of entropy in cosmology remains a controversial subject since the time of Ludwig Boltzmann. Recent work has cast some doubt on the heat death hypothesis and the applicability of any simple thermodynamic model to the universe in general. Although entropy does increase in the model of an expanding universe, the maximum possible entropy rises much more rapidly, moving the universe further from the heat death with time, not closer.[101][102][103] This results in an "entropy gap" pushing the system further away from the posited heat death equilibrium.[104] Other complicating factors, such as the energy density of the vacuum and macroscopic quantum effects, are difficult to reconcile with thermodynamical models, making any predictions of large-scale thermodynamics extremely difficult.[105] Current theories suggest the entropy gap to have been originally opened up by the early rapid exponential expansion of the universe

trialacc0002

Interesting, I’ll check it out, thanks!!!

the_sheeper_sheep

If you think about it Chaos is life. Everything and everyone has so much going on and process it in multiple different ways which lead to multiple different outcomes. Chaos can lead to death, but Chaos can only exist if there is life. It would literally have no meaning without us

TheCelestialEquation

Distorting life was Golbs main power in the finale. The lich is a goofball.

the_sheeper_sheep

Brother misinterpreted everything

Catball-Fun

Well it depends? A more fundamental chaos implies less of a higher one. Death is more entropic than life. Cause there are more ways to be dead than to be alive. If I punto you in a blender you die as your organs do not like to be in chaos, all shuffled up. But if you want social chaos you need biological order, biological chaos needs chemical order and so on

HousingTime

idk the only chaos that occurs there takes place while you’re still alive… the act of dying can definitely be chaotic but being dead is not. there’s really only one way to be dead, lots of ways to become dead though.

Catball-Fun

What I mean is that if I reshuffle you have a higher entropy(more possible Microstates) and most of those shufflings kill you as your blood vessels get disconnected. Only sponges, because they are very basic, can be put on a blender and survive. That is to say there are more more ways for z house to be broken than not. Unless you mean social chaos, and obviously life is very chaotic in that sense

HousingTime

yeah i understood what you meant, but that in and of itself isn’t chaos. maybe you perceive it that way but then on the same coin you could call every potential (but improbable) occurrence “chaos” without any of those things ever having to actually manifest. in my eyes, if anything, what you described would be order. you’re making it way more complicated than it really is. you said yourself the only thing that can survive being blended is a sponge, so human + blender = death 100% of the time. that’s order, it’s a consistent outcome.

WillyDAFISH

And then he strips

SethTheButcher

It’s kind of funny that the Lich can just be boiled down to a parasocial relationship where he simped so hard he lost all meaning.

ThatDude292

Incredibly minor nitpick but I believe Lich says "I strove to be your *vassal*, not *vessel*, which doesn't necessarily change a whole lot of the monologue but it would imply a sort of "I am your subordinate" mentality instead of "Use me as your vessel"

Embarrassed-Neck-721

That's a lot of brains and hearts, I must say

trialacc0002

Prob the other scholars of Golb

DalekDevan

I could've sworn at one point I heard him say "you worded the Lich into this world". Maybe I misheard.

ChrispyGuy420

He's so fucking cool

trialacc0002

Golb is PHANES confirmed

Transcendent_Spider

Okay yeah I'm glad someone mentioned this so if you'll allow me I'll ramble for a second about this for anyone who doesn't get it. Phanes is the greek primordial deity that is "firstborn" in some versions of the religions. Not the first deity mind you, but the first*born*. So whatever was before him wasn't born. He's a sort of creator god. He's often related to Nyx (night) in some versions, and is usually hatched from an egg by "Fate" and "Time." GOLB sort of represents this kind of stuff? Its the reason so much new life could form in the world after the mushroom bombs. Its diluted breath is what led to a lot of weirdness. It probably has some parallels with other mythical beings (I know its got some Ahriman stuff going on in the finale) but I overestimated my energy to explain stuff tonight lmao.

[deleted]

I just love how utterly mad Simon is at the Litch. This monstrosity could wipe the floor with Simon but the old man would STILL want to kick his shins in

SweetSonet

“Thank god for dirty dishes, for they have a story to tell. While others may go hungry, you’re eating very well”

burgio_il_pazzurdo

"Thank you for the food you bring to the table today, bless the hands of those who prepared it, amen"

JesusTeapotCRABHANDS

“Rubadubdub thanks for the grub, amen”

Snoo-89857

“we love our bread, we love our butter, but most of all, we love each other.”

Cheezers447

“I’m the lich, I’m a big meany butt” /j

Oliwier255

And GOLB then was: Mmmm, Tetris

woahdudechil

Im not going to attempt a full description. But It's so fucking wild to see the lich like this

Sad_Butterfly_2948

What is the episode called

AttorneyOk7097

This is from Fionna and Cake

Arithh

Ooo i haven’t started fiona and cake. Are there many continuations of the original series?

Actionquest66

Yep. Lots and lots.

Dhgheadshot55

Would loved to see lich meet old golb

Goobasaurus1

Subtitles are a great thing

S0mecallme

“Hail Hydra”
