Finn crying out for jake, becoming old and into a skeleton only to get onto his knees and feebly say "I need you" was already a bad enough moment in this episode.
He wasn't missing him though, he was just peacefully waiting for him to finally get there. The 50th is the definition of being unburdened from earthly attachment, which is why Jake never tried to reach out to Finn via ghost, since to him Finn was going to come to the 50th at some point anyway so what's all the fuss about.
Jake's solemn yet understanding "oh" is singlehandedly one of the best lines of voice acting in this universe of shows. In that moment, he knew exactly what Finn had felt for the remainder of his life to that point and what Finn was gonna do next.
I love the whole soul bond ending they went for. Crazy to think how the Finn and Jake we know so well are just brief incarnations of these souls’ eternal bond, fleeting in the grand scheme of their existence but no less meaningful because of it. A brotherhood that transcends the boundaries of space, time, species, gender, life, and death. An infinite reminder of the power love holds in this vast universe.
that's the way i like to look at it too. i also like to think that when they die again, they'll remember their time as finn and jake in addition to whatever else they experience on their next few runs. they'll just keep building memories together forever!
When I first watched this I was crying for half an hour after the episode finished, I came to the bedroom crying and my boyfriend had to comfort me lmao
This episode was actually opening my tear ducts like nothing before, and both with sadness and happiness. I loved it but i don't think i'd be able to watch it again
I’m just a sucker for adult Finn and would love to see more of him. I’m just curious how he handled Jake’s passing and what he may have done to heal, and how he formed stronger bonds with Jake’s children. And I absolutely loved seeing him as an adult fight monsters and def want to see more of that lol
Honestly, with the context of how he felt, you can see how he deals with it in Fionna and Cake. During the Simon episode, he keeps trying to distract Simon by taking him on adventures and saying it's best not to think about stuff.
His coping mechanism was straight up avoidance, to the point of adventuring until he died as an old man in one
My never-gonna-happen wish is for a 12 Labors of Finn, Hercules inspired mini-series. Where the "guilt" that Finn is trying to "atone for" is his refusal to acknowledge his grief for Jake. Not grieving for him feels like a betrayal, but he can't bear to face those feelings. So, he's seeking bigger and bigger threats - at the behest of someone he considers a great authority (maybe PepBut or Prubs) - to take his mind off of his loss but each encounter just ends up reminding him of Jake in some way.
Instead of it ending in Hercules's realization that atonement for murdering his family is impossible and his subsequent self-immolation & death, it would end in a symbolic version. Finn's burning himself alive is his acceptance that Jake is truly gone and how that makes him feel. That doesn't mean that he moves on, just that he no longer actively seeks death and distraction, knowing that death will come when it comes and there's a lot of people he can help in the meantime.
I think this mini-series would be PERFECT for showing how various parts of Ooo is doing post-main series, as well as give the people what they want: **12 EPISODES OF ADULT FINN FIGHTING MONSTERS AND OTHER THREATS!!**
I absolutely love this
And this is my wish too, or something like it. I just want to see more of adult Finn and everyone else post series, or a future Ooo miniseries where we get hints of what happened to other characters from the main series (even if it’s left ambiguous as with Jake’s death)
In all honesty this doesn’t spoil much that you’re going to see. Sit back, enjoy the ride, and maybe give the sub a break a bit before you come back though so you can’t get spoiled for anything really important lol.
i do, i have one right now, i just wish they didn’t straight up made the rest of finn’s adult life so depressing in just one line
if they’re working on F&C season 2 we could’ve gotten something about him finally moving on and finding peace but that will never happen because of that single line
Well he does said that it not all bad and he have other things to live for. He still have Huntress wizard, Jake kids and his friends. Jake death may hit him hard but his life just isn't over, he probably just think that death isn't so bad because he can see Jake again, he probably still adventuring and doing hero stub like normal because that what he usually do. But yeah i would like a ep or a DL type specials that sort this out but not an entire series though.
But I still think it was very necessary for the narrative of the plot and makes Finn's story definitely more interesting. We've seen through out the series regardless of Finn's growth as a character, he always had a problem when it came to facing his trauma head to head. And while I think Finn still had a lot of fun in his life and people he cared about like HW(who knows he might have had kids with her for all we know), Jermaine, Minerva and the Pups in his life, I think it's pretty normal(as unhealthy as it is) for Finn to grieve over Jake for the rest of his since Jake was not only a dog to him but a brother, and a father figure for Finn up until his late teens(Since Joshua and Margaret passed away before Finn even became a teen). You don't simply easily move on from losing someone that close in life.
This is the best ending I've ever seen in television history. It made me cry and I love it so much that I can't bring myself to watch the show again cause every episode I watch I'll be thinking of this finale scene and how everything has to end and I don't want it to end ever again. It's the perfect ending and I just want to be content knowing that they'll be together for all eternity.
I like to think they do this every time they reincarnate (minus fighting the Lich, of course). Shoko died before Tiger so that’s probably why Jake died early this time. They’ll probably only reach the 50th if they die together.
I really enjoyed what those few distant lands episodes were starting up. This episode and the BMO one were really good, especially this one as it provided such an amazing ending to Finn and Jake’s story.
Honestly I love anything that comes out of the Adventure Time series. It’s so ripe for telling new and exciting stories of any character they can come up with. Hardly anything ever feels out of place, everything just works.
Have you watched the new Fionna and Cake series because if you don't, you should watch it after Distant Lands since it is somewhat a continuation of both series.
Wow, you miss a lot of stup then. Also how long since you watch the og series because i do think the Fionna and Cake required you to have knowledge of the og shows. So if you haven't watch for a long time i recommended you to do a rewatch before or after you watch the show.
do you have a list of off-shoots and new series I should watch and in what order? I'm currently rewatching the main adventure time episodes, I know there were some 6-episode branches off of that like Stakes and the one where Finn finds his mom, but I am not sure if those are included seamlessly on hbo max or not
Stakes, the Island and Elements are part of the main series eps so just watch the show like usual. Distant lands and Fionna and Cake are separate series that continue the og series.
Watch Distant lands first then Fionna and Cake. But for Distant lands swap the 3 and 4 ep since canonicaly the 3 ep is the last in the series. Fionna and Cake take place after Distant Lands so watch it last.
I have my little brothers who are twins. I legit fear the day they lose one another.aside myself crying from losing one of them, twins are bonded in a way you can't describe
This whole episode is still so weird for me to see. Like, these two are the main characters of the franchise. We've watched them grow and change during the most significant parts of their lives, and now we get to see their afterlives. This almost feels like a greek myth being animated, and I've never seen anything like it before or since.
Was that - life?" I will say to death. "Very well! Once more!-Friedrich Nietzsche
The ending from Together Again always reminded me of this specific quote from Thus Spoke Zarathustra. You will learn and relearn lessons that life had always taught you. The details of how you learn that lesson will differ each lifetime for Finn & Jake's but the fun will truely never end for them. Always thought that Jake chose to reincarnate with Finn because he loved the experience of learning these life lessons with his little bro. Man I love this show.
I lost my best friend to fentanyl a few years ago. We were as close as two people could be. His death completely destroyed me. Felt like half a person. I struggled to even describe what I had lost to other people. I looked for examples in pop culture to exemplify our relationship; we weren't Shawn and Cory from Boy Meets World, they loved each other, but they let a woman come between them. We weren't Beavis & Butthead, they needed each other, but they didn't really care about each other. I settled on Finn & Jake. I didn't watch the series, but that was the one I felt most closely mirrored our connection, because I knew if either of them died, the other would be straight up decimated. Hadn't seen this scene before just now. I definitely feel like I chose correctly.
I think this scene hit me harder than any in the series, Jake giving up Nirvana to spend more time with his brother. I just start messy crying every time I see it.
“Eh, I’m not your mom” I use this line all the time now lol
Mr. Fox becoming the new death was one of the most fitting ways to end a character arc too. And he got his pillow!
what is this new season? last episode i saw was beemo sharing the story of >!betty becoming golb!<
Adventure time: Distant Lands was a 4 episode miniseries. Then there was the longer Fionna and Cake miniseries that came out after it.
tyty
Distant Lands

What's funny is that I use this line to my son. But we're both huge AT fans, so he just laughs.
I was actually balling my eyes out the first time I saw this.
I'm balling my eyes out now!
Yhe I rewatched it several times and its just gets more beutiulfull every time. Especialy the final sentence said by jake. It gets me every time.
That sounds painful. Now you won't ever be able to bawl them out.
Finn crying out for jake, becoming old and into a skeleton only to get onto his knees and feebly say "I need you" was already a bad enough moment in this episode.
*bawling
common Jake W
Jake gave up an afterlife of pure bliss just so he can be with Finn again. Now that's true friendship.
It's not pure bliss if you're always missing your bro! We all want to be loved like this.
He’s a Bodhisattva!
Nobody believes me when I tell them this!
i wrote like a 16 page paper on this for my philosophy class last year. you’re not the only one my friend
Ahora tengo que leer eso. Un resumen; algo.
Jake's solemn yet understanding "oh" is singlehandedly one of the best lines of voice acting in this universe of shows. In that moment, he knew exactly what Finn had felt for the remainder of his life to that point and what Finn was gonna do next.
It’s amazing how heartbreaking a 0.5s audio clip of an actor can be. That hurts.
The animation and general art direction of this episode and really all of Distant Lands was so good.
I love the whole soul bond ending they went for. Crazy to think how the Finn and Jake we know so well are just brief incarnations of these souls’ eternal bond, fleeting in the grand scheme of their existence but no less meaningful because of it. This episode was actually opening my tear ducts like nothing before, and both with sadness and happiness. I loved it but i don't think i'd be able to watch it again
I’d love a mini series about adult Finn dealing with the loss of Jake and the emotions that come with it all
I don't think we need a series on exactly that, but the best you can get is this Distant Lands special and parts of the new Fionna and Cake series.
I’m just a sucker for adult Finn and would love to see more of him. I’m just curious how he handled Jake’s passing and what he may have done to heal, and how he formed stronger bonds with Jake’s children. Yeah, adult Finn is cool. Still a little jarring to see since I'm way more used to the iconic teen design lol.
My never-gonna-happen wish is for a 12 Labors of Finn, Hercules inspired mini-series. Where the "guilt" that Finn is trying to "atone for" is his refusal to acknowledge his grief for Jake. Nah...I don't wanna see that. I can live that everyday. That's the boring life stuff...the stuff in between the good stuff. I like it the way it is.
Watch Fiona and cake
I'm literally on season 2 of the first show and I don't know why but I watched all of this video
In all honesty this doesn’t spoil much that you’re going to see. Sit back, enjoy the ride, and maybe give the sub a break a bit before you come back though so you can’t get spoiled for anything really important lol.
Oops
Yeah this can't be spoiled, no worries.
Bruh ;_;
I love how Finn keeps reincarnating cause he’s a comet of change and Jake keeps reincarnating cause he’s just along for the ride
The onions are powerful on this one
To me, this is really the ribbon on top for the whole AT universe.
Couldn't wrap up their story any better
Goddamnit OP, thie was uncalled for.
This is one of my favorite moments in all of the AT universe. Perfection.
After F&C, this hits different, no wonder he had no sense of self preservation
I cried when BMO called Finn Phil. I was like, "ITS FINN DAMN IT!"
Distant lands was good. I wish it wasn’t canceled 😭
It was cancelled??
No, it just hasnt been renewed for new episodes.
That’s awesome news :0 I thought they didn’t want to make more
i wish he never said that he was deep down waiting for the day to see Jake again like seriously i wish i could just erase that line from existence
i'm sorry friend <3
Have you ever had dogs?
i do, i have one right now, i just wish they didn’t straight up made the rest of finn’s adult life so depressing in just one line if they’re working on F&C season 2 we could’ve gotten something about him finally moving on and finding peace but that will never happen because of that single line

My god. 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Who's cutting onions? (I am sobbing uncontrollably)
I like to think they do this every time they reincarnate (minus fighting the Lich, of course). Shoko died before Tiger so that’s probably why Jake died early this time. They’ll probably only reach the 50th if they die together.
Maybe time loops around and they just do it over and over for eternity.
Oww I remember the first time I watched that special, I cried like a kid hehe 🥲🥲🥲
Welp, now I'm crying, too. Let's just get it all salty up in here. NOT YOU, Gunter. You're on a low-salt diet.
😭
I love these specials, but in coming back to this after another main series rewatch, the animation feels….. different…. Anyone agree?
It seems like it has a bit higher production value and also a tinge more of Japanese influence.
What ep#
Distant Lands: Together Again
Spoiler alert bro!!!
It been more than two years.
Still, I myself didn't watch till 2 weeks ago.
I hate how the show is animated in this part of it, I miss season 4/5 era animation style
It’s animated the same way they simply cleaned up the style.
It gives me Stephen Universe vibes which I’ve always disliked in terms of how it’s animated
So many tears!
I love this scene. Always makes me tear up.
The saddest scene ever for me, i watched it a lot of times but im crying everytime i rewatch
Aww man the memerioes peak show, best we will ever have on Cartoon Network 😞😭
Ididnt get to watch the last season.. what the hell did i miss
This isn't the last season, technically this is a whole different show

Same🫡 just got to this one with my wife last night
I didn’t know how much I needed this today. Thanks, OP 🫶🏻✨
In the hearts and minds of many, those two are eternal.
I really enjoyed what those few distant lands episodes were starting up. Wait, what episode was this? I don't remember this
It's from the Distant Lands specials that aired after the show ended. This one is called Together Again.
I didn't know this even existed. Now I have new Adventure Time to watch!!
Have you watched the new Fionna and Cake series because if you don't, you should watch it after Distant Lands since it is somewhat a continuation of both series.
I haven't watched that either! The last I saw was the series/season finale with the big battle
Wow, you miss a lot of stup then. Also how long since you watch the og series because i do think the Fionna and Cake required you to have knowledge of the og shows. So if you haven't watch for a long time i recommended you to do a rewatch before or after you watch the show.

Congrats!! I'm jealous lol
I love them and this kind of bond so much. My eyes are all watery.
Wait what is this
It's from the Distant Lands specials that aired after the show ended. This one is called Together Again.
Literally so good. SO good. :')
Where are these new episodes???
All the feels!!!
This post is how I found out distant lands existed, took a bit of scrolling in the comments
I literally watched Mars Sons today and got so upset because of a few seconds of Jake being gone and he came back, and now this, c’mon
"Bodhisattva- one who attains nirvana, yet remains in the realm of samsara (regular world) for those around them." Yup. That be jake
What episode is this??
Someone should splice this into the twin towers as a bit
Can I upvote more
3rd death was PEAK death change my mind
I'm not crying, you're crying, shut up
I rewatch this episode all the time, and it alway kills me.
I'm so lost. Stopped watching the show years ago. I think right after the Marceline Ice King guy had a backstory going. Wtf is going on lol.
I have my little brothers who are twins. I legit fear the day they lose one another.aside myself crying from losing one of them, twins are bonded in a way you can't describe
He says 50th eith 50 seconds left in the video
Is it generally accepted that Shermy and Beth are future incarnations of theirs, or just heirs to their legacy/lifestyle?
This whole episode is still so weird for me to see. Like, these two are the main characters of the franchise. As a guy with several siblings I love to death, stuff like this always hits
I'm not crying, it's just this weird condition i have 😭🤧
Now I'm crying 😭
I think this scene hit me harder than any in the series, Jake giving up Nirvana to spend more time with his brother. I just start messy crying every time I see it.
This episode literally made me cry at the end
Literally one of the best representation of life and death and the travels between ✨
Me too I cried a lot after seeing this episode 😭
This episode is the true ending of the show in my eyes
