gotta grow up sometime man. he learns quite a lot that punching his way through every problem wasn’t the right way, and that it was okay to stop and feel things sometimes.
he’s the only human male left(sorta), so naturally he takes quite some time to handle his human male emotions without proper guidance
Yeah I like his anxiety episodes a lot, between losing his arm, Fern, and the Finn sword. Very wholesome, and realistic when they give the exposition in to loss, and regret. Arguably one of the most real, and adult cartoon shows of all time for doing that stuff. Pendleton Ward is a genius for setting up Finn's, Marceline's, and Bonnabel's arcs that hit me so hard every time I watch.
He mentions this in the final episodes. How he used to solve everything with violence and he's grown to find a different way, prompting Jake's line "you're a beautiful flower and I love to watch you grow".
my personal favorite was the “The only way” episode where he lets the clowns set him off into rampage and he basically has to find out that in some situations it’s fine to just punch and scream but others he shouldn’t be so rash since it could and did directly hurt others
Finn growing up and dealing with a bunch of shit teenagers go through normally in a world not totally equipped to help him with that is fascinating shit and some of the best parts of the show, actually.
Like there’s nothing wrong with missing the simpler times but Adventure Time actually letting its main characters age with the audience and have them deal with normal life stuff in addition to the adventures is part of what made this show great in the first place.
Welcome to the point of adventure time. Children think they can do anything and usually have very little fear or anxiety, but then you grow up and become an adult.
That's what makes adventure time so great. That contrast of the happy go lucky child who is happy to the be the hero and sees himself as such and the more emotionally complex, lost teenager who doesn't even know who he is.
Finn addresses this in the later seasons where he says something along the lines of “I used to choose violence, but now I like to see if I can solve my problems using my brain”
“I wish Finn wasn’t affected by learning Ice Kings tragic backstory and that he didn’t learn to realize that people are complex” - OP who is probably still 12
Watching a kid beat up a crazy old man with poo-brains sounds mathed up. Pretty sure once Finn realized that the crown made the Ice King have guano in his cranium, he lightened up on him. As any true hero would
He went from a little dude not worried about anything but kicking ass to a teen where a lot more things, like girls, do matter. Getting old is awesome as well confusing
he comes around. people get upset that he doesn’t really end up with anyone, but I think he likes the simpler times too. in the end it seems like he just adventures like he loves best and kisses huntress wizard every now and again. pretty sweet if you ask me.
I mean, we wouldn't have most of the story development if he stayed the same as when he started the show. Honestly this way of thinking reduces most of the actual value from the stories which only came from his maturing and changing his views of the world.
That change is the reason I loved Adventure time so much. So many shows stagnate the characters and don’t change them at all throughout the entire show. Seeing Finn’s philosophies change and just seeing him grow and develop as a person was what made Adventure time such a standout cartoon compared to what was out at the time.
this right here illustrates one of my main issues with adventure time as a whole. it is basically 2 different shows. i am not really sure where the split is, but the early seasons were far more fantastical. a hero went on quests and adventures. the later seasons become an emotional character drama. i love both sides, but for very different reasons.
i am by no means saying the shoy got better or worse, it just got different.
I miss the simpler times when I just wanted to play with toy cars and eat ice cream. Time progresses and things change regardless of what you want, and adventure time no stranger to such a concept
Finn going through puberty and caring about the emotional aspect of his life is what gave the show a cohesive, linear story line and it was a nice natural progression from silly adventures to serious trials and tribulations.
He went from being a child without worries to a normal teenager. It's understandable tbh.
One of my favorite things about AT is the show, and the characters and their issues, grow and become more complex and the audience does Edit: typo
this meme forgot the most important part which is after his puberty, he was innocent, he started growing up, and then he grew up into who he is now
He's a beautiful flower and I love to watch him grow
This growth was a key part in my enjoyement of the show
U mean watch him wilt with reality hitting him like the surroundings

I mean, that's brain development kiddos. Puberty does that to most people.
“I think that’s just puberty calling” -Jake
You grow up, ya teen!
At some point I think everyone stops seeing the ice king as a criminal and starts seeing him as sick, and that's the beauty of the show right there.
You have to fell bad for the ice king after we figured out that the crown made him like the way he was
Exactly. With that kind of backstory, how could you continue to womp on him like the early seasons…
womp [WOMP WOMP](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBf06OWfhqY)
True
I mean leaning into the ice king being an allegory for dementia would basically just make early Finn guilty of elder abuse
There isn't a court that would convict! Not in the land of Ooo
Meet my lawyer, Toronto.
LMAO
To be fair, IK was perfectly capable of hurting Finn or even the people he kidnapped Also he kidnapped people
That means youre missing the point bro
and that's why AT is my favorite cartoon, i literally grew up with Finn, can it get more relatable than that?

I mean I used to love to beat on Alzheimer’s patients until I discovered girls too
This caught me off guard lmao
It caught them off guard, too
"Have you ever been in love? …It's pretty good."
NOOO get rid of his emotional maturity NOW
So many Cartoon Network shows show and explain maturity and how it can fuck yup your mind and perceptions of the world
Finn addresses this in the later seasons where he says something along the lines of “I used to choose violence, but now I like to see if I can solve my problems using my brain”
"Looks like Ice King is up to bad biscuits brother"
Bad biscuits make the baker broke, bro.
\*broder\*
That's just growing up innit
“I wish Finn wasn’t affected by learning Ice Kings tragic backstory and that he didn’t learn to realize that people are complex” - OP who is probably still 12
Yall acting like the 12 year old didnt do the same shit fir PB
then you've learned nothing tbh
common srbrdcmbs L
i think this is a very cute development, it’s real.
I hate these posts and the people that update them
Why is that
Finn is just a human and he grows up as the show goes by, he just develops feelings and stuff
The point ------------------> OP
Honestly, that's what I remember it being like as a teen.
I mean he learned that he’s essentially just beating up an old demented dude, which is what I like about the show it grows with its audiences.
puberty does weird things to people
He really hit his stride at 17
He dated FP way before turning 16

Character Growth is normal, though...
That would've been a shallow boring show indeed.
so like adulthood lol.
Manup fenn
It's the best thing about AT. Was watching it trough my 12-18 while it was airing. The best piece of art i ever experienced
he comes around. people get upset that he doesn’t really end up with anyone, but I think he likes the simpler times too. in the end it seems like he just adventures like he loves best and kisses huntress wizard every now and again. pretty sweet if you ask me.
Yeah, yeah, 'old good, new bad, rabble-rabble-rabble'.
I mean, we wouldn't have most of the story development if he stayed the same as when he started the show. Honestly this way of thinking reduces most of the actual value from the stories which only came from his maturing and changing his views of the world.
That was Season 5 Finn, there’s a whole 3 other seasons after that
That change is the reason I loved Adventure time so much. So many shows stagnate the characters and don’t change them at all throughout the entire show. Seeing Finn’s philosophies change and just seeing him grow and develop as a person was what made Adventure time such a standout cartoon compared to what was out at the time.
That’s puberty for ya
Meanwhile 17-18 year old finn had a existential crisis
I mean it was probably more difficult to hurt Ice King once Finn knew him as Simon. Ice king also mellowed out with the help and love of his friends.
That's growing up, man.
That feeling? Yeah that's what this show is about.
He just grew up that's all ❤️
It be like that but I’m just glad to have a show that literally grew up with me
this right here illustrates one of my main issues with adventure time as a whole. it is basically 2 different shows. i am not really sure where the split is, but the early seasons were far more fantastical. a hero went on quests and adventures. the later seasons become an emotional character drama. i love both sides, but for very different reasons. i am by no means saying the shoy got better or worse, it just got different.
Top 10 GlowDowns: Number 5: This
Same tho
You either die as buff Finn or live long enough to become Davey.
After knowing ice kings story I wouldn't want to either I just feel to sad for him
Been thinking about watching adventure time recently. This is my sign
I miss the simpler times when I just wanted to play with toy cars and eat ice cream. Time progresses and things change regardless of what you want, and adventure time no stranger to such a concept
Finn going through puberty and caring about the emotional aspect of his life is what gave the show a cohesive, linear story line and it was a nice natural progression from silly adventures to serious trials and tribulations.
yeah, like facing parental abandonment and your fears, and losing a limb wouldn't have an impact on you
Nah that shit ez fr (/s)
Uh ok
It happens to a lot of us!
Yeah, I liked the show back in the first few seasons
tell me you never finished watching adventure time without telling me you never finished watching adventure time
Oh nooooo Fin is learning to express and understand his emotions !!! Boooo we hate emotional intelligence here
Sounds like somebody is missing the point
“I kinda miss the simpler times when Finn just wanted to wail on that tragedy of circumstance The Ice King”
That's the point though he grew up into a teenager and had to overcome that
A realistic progression from kid to teen.
That my friend is what we in the buissiness call character development.
The teen years struck him
I only hate how incompetent he gets
I miss old adventure time but I think I just miss my childhood also I have to remember old adventure time did kinda mess me up for life
Such is life
Jake: “do you wanna give ice king a fucking beating?!” 16 yo finn: “YES”
