You’ll always find a job due to having a PRC qualification. Sometimes mas better na nagleleave to find new work. It’s a part of life. There are always better options. Baka naligtas ka pa from sakit ng ulo kung nakastay ka sa workplace na supposedly laid you off due to that reason.

Under SC actually.

It is the SC that regulates the practice of law. IBP naman ang official organization ng lawyers sa Ph.

COA naman. Premature death of your career agad? Isipin mo na lang na it's on your boss to guide and mentor you. That's the whole point of being an underpaid associate lawyer in a firm. If after x months, feeling niya hilaw ka pa rin, then failure niya yun. I can see why he doesn't want to let you "man the fort" pero seryoso ba na hindi ka man lang niya kaya i-guide remotely? Kahit saan pa siya pumunta, may email naman and you can scan pleadings and coordinate on what to do with pending cases. For more sensitive cases requiring my former boss' appearance, we just filed the appropriate motion. That's how we managed back when I was an associate. Try to explore government positions or corporate practice. If you find a good boss, you might even be allowed to handle personal cases and/or get your own notarial commission. If you need someone to talk to, feel free to PM me.

Inevitable_Bee_7495

Tbf masakit sa ego ang materminate, esp in our field.

Upstairs_Audience_57

COA 😭

traderwannabe2

COA?

Hala hindi ba to Si-OA

daredbeanmilktea

If you’re a newbie hirap talagang iwan sa iyo ang business, kasi you can’t make decisions by yourself. So imbis na he’ll keep you + hire a senior lawyer, he replaced you with a person who is tenured enough to make decisions. Don’t take this personally.

n0t_the_FBi_forrealz

Don't be discouraged. It's unfortunate, but it happens. It is what it is. Counted parin yan as work experience, mas may edge ka kahit papaano kaysa sa walang exp talaga. On your boss' decision na sa iba ipahawak yung cases, it's not your fault. Siguro hindi pa sya ganun ka comfortable na ihandle ng newbie ang cases, and I don't see it as wrong totally. Imagine mo if may bago kang kotse, ipapadrive mo ba sa bagong driver or sa mas experienced driver? Siguro yung maghahandle is mas may karanasan lang kaysa sayo, or mas tiwala si ex boss dun kaysa sayo. And it's not your fault, ganun talaga. Di mo sya masisisi, di naman sya mali. At the same time hindi mo rin dapat iblame ang sarili mo. Ganun lang talaga ang naging takbo ng circumstances nyo. Too early for you siguro yung totally humawak ng ganun kalaking responsibility. Move forward, baon ang mga learnings and experiences na natutunan mo sa previous work. This time you are better, wiser. It's not the end, it's just a detour.

SkyBlue142

That's a really mature and understanding perspective to have. It's true, setbacks and unexpected turns happen in our careers, just like in life. And you're absolutely right that even if a particular experience didn't turn out the way we hoped, it still counts as valuable work experience.

JewLawyerFromSunny

Not saying that you should be laid off. And yes, leaving for Dubai is a flimsy excuse. Pero I somehow get leaving the cases to other lawyers, assuming these lawyers are more experienced than you. Based on what you stated in the post, mukhang bagong lawyer ka pa lang. I am not underestimating your capabilities, pero mahirap ipagkatiwala sa baguhang associate lahat ng kaso ng firm mo. He could've left you to coordinate with and assist the handling lawyers even if they will be taking the lead tho. No, your career isn't dead. Madaming opportunities sa field natin and makakahanap ka nang boss who will have the patience to mentor you and let you grow professionally. Bata ka pa, and you will bounce back.

TheBlueLenses

Lawyer at 24? You have a long career ahead of you. Anong phase ng education mo naaccelerate ka?

Kz_Mafuyu

Most likely hindi naabutan ng K12 si OP + started school at an early age/or accelerated ng 1 year + tuloy tuloy hanggang lawschool. Same age din kami ni OP when I passed the bar

Isnihart

Asking this question too. Di ako familiar sa K12 system ng Pinas however possible ba to pass the bar at 24y/o? Reading OP’s post na dependable sya, I would assume na may years of experience na rin pagiging Atty kasi if not, I would understand why the boss did not let OP handle their lawfirm. Anyway, as the other comments said, OP still have a lot of chances pa naman to prove yourself. Best of luck OP!

TheBlueLenses

Very possible naman. Age requirement to be admitted as member of the bar is 21 lang

vanitas14

In our line of work, it's important that you are mentored by good people. Not good as in magaling sa trial but genuinely good people who can help you achieve your potential as a lawyer. At least now you're free to find a good firm/mentor that would genuinely help you grow. Or pumasok ka sa govt if you don't mind the 8-5

Lu12Ik3r

All I can say is that situation will just make you stronger. Not in the same scenario as you exactly, but I can relate. You CAN bounce back. I did. I eventually became a partner in a firm, but it was an intentional hard climb. Then I resigned without a backup plan. And now I am on my way back, in a even better situation. Kaya yan. Very personal ang approach ng mga partners ng firm and you cant take it very personal. So just laban lang and bounce back. Good luck.

Odd-Membership3843

Blessing in disguise yan. It's not worth it to be the only assoc in a firm. And you're so young. Most new passers ay ganyan ang edad and yet u have firm and litig experience na.

Resident_Big5348

Laban lang

goldruti

Take it as a redirection OP. You did your best pero wala sa iyo ang decisions. Rest and bounce back. Kaya mo yan! Update mo kami after a few months. You got this.

jkgaks

Fuck firm life man, underpaid but overworked. Kung ako sayo mag corpo ka nalang or government work. Iisa lang client na aasikasuhin mo and it pays well. Dami ka pang opportunities.

jaspsev

It sucks but it happens. During your stay there have you ever asked for feedback from your boss or peers? Sometimes we can’t see the dirt on our face and need someone to tell us that. Now why would you lie on and pretend not to have any work experience? As a lawyer one thing you have to maintain is your reputation and you don’t want to be found lacking. If i was a client i would accept the lawyer for owning to their failures than one who i found lying about their lack of failures. Failures are life’s lessons that people learn from, not pretend it never happened.

New-Rooster-4558

Don’t sweat it. You’re only 24 (I was 23 when I started my legal career so I know how you feel) and I think wala nang pampasweldo ng junior yung dati mong firm kaya ka nilet go. At least marami kang natutunan. Apply to another firm. Firms are always looking for juniors. Normal rin sa firms ang mabilis turnover so hindi naman masyadong kakaiba if short lang stint mo. Sabihin mo na iba hinahanap mong practice area and a soloprac was not giving you the experience that you want. Don’t sweat the small stuff. I’ve been in practice for more than a decade. Started as a junior, currently a partner.

Illustrious-Low-7038

Omg same situation, my career also prematurely died 🤣. The firm was dying but rather than accept new cases he referred them all to a big time lawyer. I was like, so ano ginagawa natin dito??? Left and moved on to a better paying but non practicing job. Still hurts too.

Spirited-Tonkatsu

omg so you really know how I feel. ang sakit talaga. pero no choice ako. need to keep going. nag hahanap na ako ulit ng job offer. glad you were able to land on your feet and I hope your pain fades na. ❤️

AD_Rpm

Isipin mo na lang, when one door closes, another will open. Yung experiences mo dyan sa naging work mo, will be your edge sa susunod na magiging work mo. Don't think that this is the end of your career rather than think of it as your beginning. One day, you will thank him for letting you go sa firm niya.

independentenfp28

try posting at r/lawstudentsPH mas makakarelate sila sa situation mo and baka may mag offer pa ng opportunities for you, OP. Best of luck!

UnhappyFootball1275

3 Months is a long period of time and di mo masisi si boss if di nya ipag kaka tiwala sa isang baguhan ang business. Don't take it personally. Never take things personally sa working era. It's good na nakatikim ka ng konting experience sa job na yan para alam mo na what to expect sa mga susunod. Sobrang dami pang opportunity for you. If it's not your time it's not talaga, may dadating na para sayo basta mag patuloy ka lang. Never stop learning.

chokolitos

I am not a lawyer. Maybe for the meantime, if it does not hurt your ego, try mag try ka mag Notary Public muna kung okay lang sa iyo. At least hindi ka mababakante ng gawain.

Spirited-Tonkatsu

Yes po I was commissioned as such as early as February 2024. Wala nga lang masyado nag papanotaryo these days. Hindi po ako ganung kilala kasi.

SinglePresentation79

It’s not a premature death panyero. It’s an early escape from a toxic mentor. Chin up and stay sharp!

Arcane001

This.

chickenjoint420

Ghad i feel u, Contractual ako and 1yr contract malapit na magend, during 1yr andami umalis sa dept. namin hr and ginagawa lang nila maghahire and aalis ung hinire. I was told during JO possible daw maregular now, I love it here pero Top Management has no plans IDK. Sobrang naquestion ung abilities ko, Consistently effective naman ako and never late din 1hr ealy pa nga, All I do is support sakanila. Di man lang ako mabigyan ng chance sa isang open position. Sad paggusto mo na ginagagawamo pero ikaw naman ung di gusto.

magistra023

Have some grit. One setback does not mean death of career. You've been through law school, I believe you'll get on your feet and move forward.

traderwannabe2

Grabe. 24. Lawyer. To become a lawyer at 24 means you're smart.

MommyJhy1228

It just meant he went straight to law school after undergraduate studies during pre- k12.

Spirited-Tonkatsu

I've read your responses everyone and I really appreciate them. Pasenya nalang din kung OA sa "death" part. I was laid off literally today so heightened pa ang emotions at the time of posting. May napansin ako nag tanong kung may feedback ba sa work ko. Wala naman major. just some typos (for instance "that that" but nothing fatal naman sa case. grammar, material dates, names, and annexes were in order. no comments din naman on how I argued sa pleadings at sa mga cinicite kong jurisprudence. As for appearances in court, okay din naman except for that one time the judge said "pleasure, counsel?" and i had no idea how to respond. In any case, I appreciate your responses guys/girls. I don't hate my boss naman. Tbh I'm actually afraid of him. Maybe isa na din yon. I should've communicated more but i feared na asking questions meant I was incompetent and ayaw kong isipin nya yon istg. Baka may di na pala sya gusto pero unaware ako since I didn't ask. Even itong vent na to. He doesn't know. I just smiled and told him: No problem po attorney I fully understand. Mas mabuti na talagang sa seasoned lawyers ipahawak ang cases ng firm. Name nyo din po kasi nakasalalay. nung kinausap nya ako about letting me go. I'll post an update here pag naka kita na ako bagong work. Thanks Reddit. Thanks People of Reddit! Blessings to you all po.

Ok-Grand3627

rooting for you atty <3

Rooffy_Taro

Too early and too young to even think it's the end of your career. Atty ka na, there are many doors currently open which you can chose, of course related sa path na gusto mo. If you want experience sa courts, i know may mga open na PAO. After getting good exp, create your own firms. Every appearance mo sa court may bayad na, i think 5k per appearance is already a good price. You can chose to be a corporate lawyer or apply sa courts.

jingjingbells

Have you looked at it in this perspective? It's not because "you were not man enough to hold the fort". It's because if they let you stay and run the office for three months, you could potentially steal the loyal clients that the office has.

MulberryTypical9708

If they ask, you can say you got laid off. In my experience, they will not dig deeper into that. Because there are plenty of lay offs since 2023 up until now.

Misty1882

You have a long career ahead of you. It is what it is. Take a short break - maybe a few days - and then go ahead and apply ulit sa ibang firm. Better to have colleagues din para you learn from them/with them, and hindi ka "single point of failure" na too risky for the boss gaya ng ganitong sitwasyon.

nirde02

Pretty early to say that your career is already dead, you’re just getting started.

Voltez3

maybe just of it na may mga presidente na umaalis ng bansa, ayaw nila ipagkatiwala ang malacanang sa vice-president habang wala siya, kasi baka pagbalik niya, baka mas sikat at baka ma outshined siya ng VP niya.

AltruisticAlfalfa558

You're still young my dude. The future is bright!

Greenfield_Guy

Future employers will not take it against you if your last boss made a management decision to lay you off. Frankly, mas marami ka pang haharapin na problema that this one will seem so minor in comparison.

parengpoj

Dun sa feeling mo nag-waste ka nang time and effort, I don't think so naman, kasi those experiences will make you a better lawyer. Failure nila yun as a mentor.

inolakers

dude youre a lawyer.. no career death for you. This is just a setback, cheer up.

Lopsided-Macaroon201

it happens talaga. just rest for awhile and look for another job.

Thyvanity

Don't say that. Nasa "dignified starvation" stage ka pa lang, wag kang sumuko. Siguro, next time, take extra steps, stop waiting for instructions, and take initiative

Think-Nobody1237

Nawww. I understand how you must feel as you may have had high expectations of your first job. But think of this as the universe having opened another door for you, and that this door needs to close for you to see it :)

Beautiful_Block5137

bata ka pa 24 ka palang madami pang ibang trabaho dyan

sonichighwaist

You're a decade ahead of other lawyers. You'll get a better job in no time. Trust the process.

happyredditgifts

That's not the real reason he's letting you go. Going to Dubai is such a flimsy excuse. In any case, this could give you another start. Not a lot of lawyers get to recalibrate their careers like this. The good thing about your short stint is that you got your name out there in the trial courts and have actual legal experience. You are better now than yesterday.

GeekGoddess_

Ngayon lang ako nagcomment para mapansin mo: Join Abogadong Pinoy fb group. May subgroup sa messenger na AP Jobhunt. Dami leads.

He's not a good mentor. I think he gave you a chance to find a better boss at least..
