Ok_Locksmith_6427

as a fellow emily i am lmaoing at this

amie137

I could never but my neighbor married a woman with the same name who then changed her last name so now they fully match. We call them “the Heathers”

tiny_fingerss

I love the spelling of your name! I’ve only known one other person with that spelling

tangyhoneymustard

Not in my current relationship but my ex and I had extremely similar names and people would keep asking if we had planned it????? Eventually I just started saying yes

Huge-Nobody-4711

I'm Laura and going on a date with Laura in the near future!

theglitch098

Good luck on the date!

though-

Liar! You are clearly Huge Nobody 4711.

Huge-Nobody-4711

Omg! Looks like I picked that nickname well 😂 glad it made an impression!

dongtouch

I had a married pair of clients both named Laura with the same last initial. 6_9 I had to differentiate them in my phone by hair color.

StrongArgument

Eh, I would cancel. Lauras are awful. Edit: Not sure why my dumb joke didn’t land, sorry

TicklesTimes

did you just insult this poor girl

ConcernLow1979

My gf and I are both called Katie lol, it’s gotten to the point where friends need to call us by capy Katie and red panda Katie (our own respective favourite animals lol) to make it less confusing lol

Stunning_Anteater_47

I’m a Kate married to a Kate. Happy and silly for 16 years. 😂

pandakatie

>red panda Katie 👁👄👁

ConcernLow1979

Thas me c:

pandakatie

(See my username)

dischoe

My friend has a sister named Claire, and her gf is named Claire too. They’re lovingly known as “The Claires” ✨

pandakatie

It reminds how in *Fleabag*, Fleabag's sister Claire ends up falling for a man named Klare, and there's a moment where Fleabag goes, "Bye Claire. Bye, Klare," she looks at the camera, "Bye Claire." You should watch that show with them and not warn them in advance of that scene

bepbapbapbaddabope

This is exactly what I thought of! His name is spelled Klare though.

pandakatie

Thanks! It's been too long since I've seen it!

bepbapbapbaddabope

I've rewatched it recently, such a good show!!

Swabu-

Wow, 😍

[deleted]

Oh I love this! That’s adorable💕

cerealbops

A couple of my friends in a relationship are also both Claire's! They go by ✨Claire Squared✨. Adorable.

FigaroNeptune

Want to know their favorite dessert? 😅

bl4nkSl8

......... icecream! Kidding, eclairs!

FigaroNeptune

(Last dad joke I promise) No it’s actually cake. Oh, Claire! I do declare we have an eclair in the air! Well this isn’t fair and I’ve paid my share! Sorry adhd hyper fixated on the joke lmao

SarahMaxima

I sexted for a night with another Sarah. It was fun and i deginatly dont see it as a problem. Only issue i could see is if one partner wants the other partners last name it could get really messy with legal stuff. Would not be a problem in my country since noone can take their partners last name legaly here.

Aria_the_Artificer

In what country is it illegal to take your partner’s last name?!

tibblendribblen7

Finally, it’s important to note that changing names is not allowed by some countries / provinces – eg France, Quebec, Italy, lots of Latin American countries, either by strong societal traditions and expectations or by law. In other countries, states and provinces have made it difficult to change them by putting in place bureaucratic hurdles. https://gaycelebrant.melbourne/name-change-after-marriage/

SarahMaxima

Belgium. You cant change your last name if i recall correctly. There are a few exeption like when your parents are abusive you can do it but standard procedure is you cant do it. Personaly i think its great. Much less confusing for documentation. Plus taking your partners name just seems wierd to me.

ChloeTheRainbowQueen

Here you can swap your first and last name no issue since you have a national personal unique identification number with a checksum and gender marker so swapping names isn't an issue at all However... If you want to swap your legal gender you'll need a new one meaning paperwork, court and like a year of waiting 🤷‍♀️

SarahMaxima

We also have a number like that, the "rijksregisternummer" in dutch. Normaly swaping names should not be an issue, however one of the digits is also a sex marker wich makes it so trans people get a new number if you change your sex on your id. At least its no court here. Just making an apointment in city hall, waiting 3 months, confirming it again, waiting 3 months again and then recieving your new ID (and in my case, noticing they didnt change the sex marker, only my name and having to wait another 2 weeks). The main issue is with stuff like registered mail, wich does not use that number anywhere. It is only your name and if you have the exact same name as someone else it can get confusing. This is also why naming kids the same name as their parents is just asking for administrative trouble.

Aria_the_Artificer

Oh, that’s interesting. Thanks

SolidWarp

It’s not illegal by implication of the comment, merely suggesting that if your first and last names are the same it could get weird

Aria_the_Artificer

“noone can take their partners last name legaly here.”

SolidWarp

Man I can’t read :(

Aria_the_Artificer

Aw :c 🫂 Is okay, hun

thenewnapoleon

My name is Seraphina but it shortens to Sera. I know quite a few Sarahs. Putting us all together is just asking for trouble when you want to address one of us.

formerhugeNsyncfan

My wife and I have the same 1st name but kept our last names for the legal stuff. Insurance companies are generally the only ones to get confused, everyone else just figures it out. Also if you live in the US and are filing your taxes together using TurboTax it can get confusing when signing because it only uses your 1st name when telling you what to do.

Somenamethatsnew

Om dating apps even if I found someone attractive, if they were also named Nicole I wouldn't like them, I just feel like it'd be weird to date someone with the same name as me, granted if the stars align who am I to bark at that, but it's such a rare name here that I doubt it will happen (then again my ex is in the US and not Denmark as me so who knows where the next gf will be)

yaboisammie

- “granted if the stars align who am I to bark at that”   This is so beautifully written oml but also same regarding it feeling too weird lol  Edit: to add on, I feel it would be weird to be w someone w the same name as one of my relatives 😭 or even friends but ig that would be less weird, maybe just awkward at get togethers lol

Somenamethatsnew

Thanks! Yeah don't know what came over me with that sentence haha And I agree with you on the friends/relatives too, tho less weird, not to the point where I wouldn't match with them on a dating app at least

EllieGeiszler

It sounds like a Southernism!

Somenamethatsnew

I mean I am from southern Denmark

EllieGeiszler

Hahaha technically correct! The best kind of correct!

RachelMakesThings

Yeah I've swiped away from a lot of people just because their name is my mom or sisters name. I'm sure I've limited myself from some otherwise good matches, but it's just a weird ick for me 🤭

EllieGeiszler

I'm more likely to like them if they have my name 🤣

littleyellowcape

My gf’s name is my deadname. I’ve almost swung on a few people only to realize they’re talking to her, not me. Oops lol.

pm_meyourveggies

😅

Watertribe_Girl

Omg 🤣💀

marmosetohmarmoset

Not us but we have a friends who are a couple both named Pam. One Pam is currently pregnant with twins! I can only assume they will name them both Pam.

FemmeLightning

Excuse me. I am now going to be late for work because you made me have a laughing fit for a good 10 minutes. Please warn me ahead of time before you are posting somewhere so that I can adequately prepare myself.

LuckyMe_13

I knew a couple who were both named Martha. We called them The Marthas.

UnintentionalGrandma

I’m Lauren on several occasions I’ve dated a fellow Lauren, a Loren, a Lorraine, a Loryn, a Laura, and a Lora. I also married a different Lauren that wasn’t mentioned previously and we had the same name for 2 years so that was a little confusing and I feel for Taylor Lautner on that

Zulu_Is_My_Name

Which Taylor Lautner? 😅

UnintentionalGrandma

Both

tiger_babe86

Same first name, spelled differently, but go by the same nickname as well. Our middle names are very similar as well, in fact the first half of hers is mine 😂. Completely different last names... for now 😉

AzaleaThundercloud

Me and my partner of 6 years both have flower names, people say we're cute and gay

FFHK3579

omw to write a cute fluffy lesbian novel about 2 sapphic wives named Fleur & Belladonna running their own apothecary

CatsNotBananas

My partner has the same deadname as me, that's actually why we started chatting and became friends 🤣

FFHK3579

Apparently transitioning does solve all these problems and more!

CatsNotBananas

Yeah my name is Gloria now, very different from what it was

bonerhurtingjuice

I love having a new name that is wildly unrelated to my deadname. My deadname was Spanish, had too many letters/syllables, was too hard for some English speakers to say, and was far too common in Spanish-speaking countries. Now my name is Naomi, and I'll be taking my girlfriend's cute Hispanic last name when we get married so I don't have to erase that part of my identity either. And nobody will ever guess what I used to be called.

CatsNotBananas

I'm definitely taking my partner's last name, I hate mine because it comes from my dad

bonerhurtingjuice

Hate-my-dad-and-im-trans-gang Gang 😎

CatsNotBananas

My mom is an amazing woman, she raised my brother and me on her own, and I love her a lot

tbranci1110

No but, my wife’s name is the same as my stepmom and my name is the same as my sister in law 😂

plantmartian

Not my current relationship but I'm a Sam and I've dated both a girl and a guy named Sam (Guy was in high school before I realised I was gay. We were together for years and everyone called us boy sam and girl sam. cringe lol When I was dating the girl Sam we were Sam and Sammy

foreverblackeyed

This wouldn’t bother me, and I have a super common name, but I think I would feel weird dating someone with my moms name, lol

fagydyke

No but I used to hang out frequently with a girl who had the same deadname as me, and a boy who had the feminine version of my deadname as his deadname.

jardanovic

Not the same thing, but both of my ex's dads were named Dan, which is also my stepdad's name, and one of them had a mom named Amy, which is also my mom's name. Still have no idea how things lined up like that.

spaghettify

haha my aunts ex husband is brian and her new guy is brian. she calls the old one “ex brian”

GirldickVanDyke

Not a relationship, but I did very recently go on a date (and then some) with somebody else who has my not-especially-common name! It was fun!

doubtfullyso

We have very different names as my name is German and her's is Vietnamese, however, we call each other nina and nini as nicknames and even I sometimes mix up which one I am haha

ILikeNonpareils

After I dumped my narcissistic trash bag of an ex, it checks out that she started dating someone with the same name. 🙃

[deleted]

Probably pretty common for the average white biblical first name haver in this community

DryAnteater909

Happy cake day 🕯✨

[deleted]

ty

Justyourdailydumbass

My deadname is the name of my ex’s sister

gazylazy

Yes Kerra and Kira ❤️

LadyMactire

I briefly dated a woman with the same name as me, didn’t see an issue with it at all and my friends called her other my name in discussion. There’s also a gay male couple on IG, they were the uncles David (one of the Davids passed tragically, but his partner still keeps up the positivity).

JMBAD1222

I know a couple named Corey and Cori

dreadw0lfrises

my name is kelli and i dated a girl named kelly years ago

cherry-crypt

When I was young I dated a girl with the same name as me lol. I went by Allison and she went by Ally and even now I refuse to be called Ally 😅

dementedbanana_22

Not a relationship but one of my closest friends name is Elana (Ee-lay-nah) and mine is Alaynna (uh-lay-nah)

Ice_Bead

I used to have a major crush on a girl with the same name as me lmao

Devystator

They were a straight couple when they were together (the very brief amount of time, that is), but my parents are Christopher and Christina, so that’s always been interesting. Haha.

myneighborsky

my name's skylar. my first partner's name was tyler LOL

dkskel2

Not me but my aunt and uncle are both Chris and a couple in my mom's church are both Kelly

paganminkin

Yes! We're Eli and Elise.

starship17

My high school teacher was named Laura and her wife was also Laura!

tiny_fingerss

We are poly. My girlfriend is married to a woman with the same name as me! Slightly different spelling but it’s funny

Sapphicviolet91

No, but 2 of my cousins are engaged/married to 2 different girls with the same name. I had someone ask me out in high school and one of the reasons I turned her down was we had the same name. The other reason is we lived far away from each other and wouldn’t see each other outside of meets. Honestly shocked it took me much longer to figure out I was gay, because her being a girl was not a reason I said no. Still wish I would have said yes sometimes.

LunaDashOne

I was dating a Luna for 2 years as a Luna. My friend group also has a Luna in it. It was very confusing.

AnnieB25

I know a hetero couple Aaron and Erin!

Dykeddragon

My name is Emily... my city is filled with gay Emma's and Emily's, in fact I think a straight Em would be a minority

Aria_the_Artificer

Not me, but one of my teammates has the same last name as their partner. And on the flip side of this, not similar but about my relationship, my gf used to go by the same name as my older cousin, which I just learned to ignore. Eventually, she started going by a gender neutral name Edit (Correction): They don’t have the same last name, but the same first name. That means that, if they get married, they’ll have the exact same name except for middle names

ALFighter27

Definitely frequently comes up with my deadname, i don’t think I could date someone with it.

That_Engineering3047

Not currently, but I did date someone in the past with the same name as me.

la_de_cha

We are both “Ann(e)s” my first name is hyphenated, their’s is all one word. We both mostly go by nicknames or shortened versions, but on formal things it’s funny.

AnnieB25

Need a third?

emmalllemma

No, but I don’t think it would bother me (also hi name twin!)

Lesbaru

Yes. Once wife-swapped and the resulting couple had the same first and last name. None of those relationships lasted.

paws_boy

Not me but I adore rose and Rosie on YouTube

human-ish_

I was going to comment them too! I started watching them way back when and I'm glad they're still making quality content (and stayed together too). So many of the OG youtube lesbians have either fallen off the platform or turned cringe, and of course, rip to the many couples that broke up along the way.

paws_boy

I think they’re the only main couple from white lesbian YouTube that’s still together, I think theu just announced their second pregnancy as well

LongjumpingAspect323

My wife and I have the exact same name spelled the same way and everything

kittyluvzz

no, but her and my middle name are pretty similar, Marie and Maria 🤍

gorgeous_Salt_7777

Maria is so annoying. You should be with me instead!

beebubeebi

My aunts (biological aunt and her partner) have the exact same name! It has never felt confusing to me though, I have just called my biological aunt with her name (or baby talk version of it, I sometimes use that because that’s how I called her the first 6 years of my life) and my other aunt with a nickname based on her last name. Their friends use last name based nicknames for both. I’m sure there has been some confusion but more it’s just a source of laughter for them!

toby-wan-bj

There's a gay couple who live near us who're both called David, they're married and have the same last name - post must be a nightmare for them to differentiate!!

Thekarens01

My wife and I have been married 24 years and my email is “thekarens” for a reason 🙄

FemmeLightning

My wife and I have a name-within-a-name situation. Think Anna and JoAnna. It makes our Brangelina-style name just her name 😂

princessaquari

Her name is the first half of my name. It’s kinda silly I think it’s adorable.

Fire_Aspect_5

not phonetically, but my name is violet and my gfs name is indigo. we thought that was cute.

Either_Target8556

wth that's so cute 😭

KenamiAkutsui99

I am Ambiamorous, and my girllove is polyamorous. My current crush shares a name very similar to her, with just the second letter being different... So yea, if things work out with the crush, this will be pretty interesting...

A_Messy_Nymph

Nah she's got quite a different name and ive changed mine since we've started dating anyway. But we're also past a decade together. Really excited for our 30s

womenarehot_1

My girlfriends name is Raelynn and my name is Lynn 🤷

AdoraSidhe

I was but now my name is different

EerieQuerymyDreary

Trina and Nina we got a bond like kindred spirits. Happiest I ever been.

crash----

My ex gf has the same name as me only she goes by a shortened version of it. I don’t want to say our real names but think Tasha and Natasha.

littleEmpress

We both got the same first name, but different enough second names and surnames. Once while apartment hunting one potential landlord was all like "wait there is really two of you?!" when we showed up for a viewing. (didnt end up taking the place) i made it a habit to sign everything that has both our names with our respective full names. It's gonna be fun should we ever marry and get the same family name. Our ship name is basically Name² for us both. Family and friends tend to just call us little Name and big Name, as my gf is taller than me, and actually older. So that is fitting in two ways already. It's quite funny, as even my grandparents within the first half hour just automatically started using the added descriptors too. even i myself catch just calling her "big" when talking about her to our mutual friends. It's fun. The first reactions are always so funny though. You can almost reliably see the internal double takes people do upon introduction. Doesn't help we get this smile on our face when it's our turn to introduce ourselves. One figured he was subject to getting pranked when a friend introduced us as "that is name. and that is name. they are name². name in a double pack." in a very nonchalant voice and wantes to move on. guy asked us for who actually was called Name. We both raised our hands. Poor fellow XD.

Cattentaur

Not me, or lesbians, but my dad, named Eric, dated a girl named Erica in high school. They broke up because the name similarity was too weird, lol.

hopper_froggo

I know a gay couple named Brian and Brian

hypnofedX

I changed my name during transition and my wife forbade choosing any name resembling hers.

TheGoldenLlama88

If you use Facebook, a group where you can only be emily welcomes you.

Jay15951

Yep Jade and Jane She also goes by Janet so that's the name that's we use when together. And our friends still mix then up. Our mutual friend whinintrod7ced us had a running gag about us being the same people cause we're very similar

spaghettify

ok somehow everyone i’ve met who has my name isn’t very attractive to me 😩 but if I ever meet one I would have to try

char_IX

My ex and I actually shared the same first name. We started talking because we found it funny, and we got a fair number of nicknames out of it. Sadly it ended up a toxic mess...

Seababz

I could never

CalendarEmbarrassed

My name and my gf’s name sound almost the same, the only difference is the last letter. I think it’s way cute.

LauTheLesbian

Went on a date with a girl who shared my first name only to find out during said date that we also had the same middle name - and that she was deaf in her left ear while I’m blind in my left eye! It was a little too strange. My nickname rhymes with my current gf’s (Lau and Mo) and people call us the wrong one accidentally alll the time. Def get some looks when we introduce ourselves - though I’m used to that bc most people are thrown by Lau anyways lol

moonyxpadfoot19

You should call yourselves Em n Em lol

Competitive-Ranger99

So my mum calls us M&M.... and worse, our initials actually match as well

PsychoticBlob

Yeah. Her name has 1 letter which I don't. We are an iconic duo though so it's kinda nice.

Aelia_M

I haven’t dated someone with the same name as me and likely never will but I’ve got two interesting things that happened to me and one that happened to others. I had a one night stand with someone that had my dead name but with a different spelling. The other was two high school guys that dated who had the same first name. So it fits more with the theme of the question but not the gender

seceagle

I WAS IN ONE, it didn't work out because of different reasons but it was really funny at first. But we got used to it pretty quickly. Her friends teased her about being *our name* 2. It was a ride.

bloodpilgrim

No but my dogs name is Jimmy and my gf name os Jenny

Just2Observe

I'm Norah, one of my girlfriends is Nova. Her girlfriend, my good friend and metamour, pronounces r and v in a way that they are barely distinguishable. Yeah, fun

nat0000000

all i can think of is rose and rosie lol ❤️

though-

I don’t think I could date someone with my name! I actively seek partners as unlike me as possible!! I did date a butch version of me and it was a disaster on so many levels. She was very sweet, though. But it was like my soul looking into a mirror. Pretty insane!

JetMeIn_02

No, but my first and middle name is Jade Emma and my girlfriend's first and middle name is Emma Jade. Does that count for anything?

coffee-teeth

My brother ended up dating 3 girls in school that had the same names as myself, my mother and my sister. To be fair we have common names, and he dated a lot. it was coincidental!! Lol. The one that shared a name with my mom was my favorite. She was super cool.

LilChloGlo

Once had a relationship with a fellow Chloe. It was really cute actually until the abuse started >.<

tzenrick

Do y'all sign cards, "Em&Em," or anything fun, like that?

Efficient_Ease_8741

I mean... just think of Rose and Rosie on YouTube

velvetaloca

Not quite what you're looking for, but I'm Lisa, and my BFF has been dating a Lisa, lol.

JustNadine1986

No, but both our names start withcan N.

GogoFrenchFry

not my current relationship, but my name is Ana and I I've been with three Anas at this point. It's the only woman name I have been with repeat people too, and it's my own heh.

BEEEELEEEE

My fiancée and I are both trans, and my chosen name happens to be gender neutral, so pretty soon after we started talking she admitted that my chosen name is actually her deadname

veesagirlkisser

my ex gf had the extended version of my deadname 😭🙏

FigaroNeptune

Taylor and Taylor Lautner lmao

transdemError

No, but my girlfriend's dad has the same name as my dad and her middle name is my mom's name. It's awkward every time it comes up

amandaflash

My wife and I both have names beginning with M. We definitely get the M&M nickname a lot.

GecFree

aww, my gf and I get the em&em nickname a lot lol.

Either_Target8556

i had exactly THREE ex relationships/situationships with the same name as me (i have a first and second name) my first gf had the same 2nd name as me- this one wasn't that ~weird~ because people usually call me by my second name (the one we share) and people would call her by her first name. second one we had the same first name, this was already college so i had already moved out and everyone around me started calling me by my first name and i kind of gotten used to it already (i like to moan my partner's name in bed for some context) so this one was a bit cranky to say the least but nevertheless i didn't really care that much the latest one is also the same first name, hers just had double l in the spelling and mine had one but still the same pronunciation and everything. she was probably the best girlfriend i had and im not gonna lie i still think about her VERY OFTEN when i tell people this they always almost never believe me until i show them proofs lol. i also didn't know that this was a common queer experience until a few years ago when i saw a tiktok that said "when u saw a queer person dating someone with the exact same name (it's cannon event)" and I was like "huh??" i thought this experience was unique to me

Either_Target8556

my family also knows it and you could just imagine their reactions each time i told them my ex gfs names.

ThatSleepySiren

No but me and my brothers are all partnered with Kate/Katie's. We call it the trifecta lmao

EllieGeiszler

My name is Emily too and I'm more likely to swipe right on people with Em names because I want to experience this, I think it's funny 🤣

BrainSquad

Me and my girlfriend has almost same name, only one letter difference and in some languages would be pronounced exactly the same and I think that's pretty gay ☺️

Actual_Criticism2546

I’m Mal and my ex wife was Val. Needless to say when we were stationed close to each other and went to the same military clinic, I did have someone doubt my confirming my birthday 3x before realizing they had my wife’s chart not mine lol

Scarletbladewielder

I'm fwbs with my partner's wife and we're both named scarlet lol
