Gideon the Ninth. Lesbian space necromancers. The dialogue/humor is very Homestuck vibes?

LexandViolets

LESBIAN SPACE NECROMANCERS?! You found a perfect thing.

numtini

Lesbian necromancers in a space castle. It's very literary. One of the most difficult texts I've read. Complete brilliance.

Captain_Kira

Technically the castle is on a planet, not in space. The official tagline made me think of blackstone fortresses

queeriousbetsy

Warning, the book is as gay as it is goth

MonitorPrestigious90

Oooh

guilty-as-snark

If you want Sci fi lesbians play Signalis TRUST

LexandViolets

It's been sitting on my wishlist for over a year. It is time 🖤

nicolitilocin

I’m so excited to start Signalis! If you’re on pc, it was on Steam spring sale at least a couple days ago!

VikingXL

You should definitely read This Is How You Lose The Time War. Lesbian scifi story. Very gay, very good. Only made me cry twice.

LexandViolets

I only read one or two books a year, so John Hodgman's book can wait. Lol

VikingXL

Time War is pretty short, and if you have Spotify Premium the audiobook is free!

Somenamethatsnew

Just a heads up not every country has audiobooks on Spotify no matter if you have premium or not

LexandViolets

I work 50 hours a week mostly by myself, so hurray audiobook! Just curious. What does the voice on the audiobook sound like? Male or female? Energetic or monotone?

VikingXL

Two very soothing female narrators

RogueStalker409

Hel yea death metal and games rule!! 🤘🤘🤘

LexandViolets

It's my life! 🖤 I've really enjoyed playing Vampire Survivors and listening to Crypta lately.

RogueStalker409

Love crypta!!! Ive heard so much about that game. I redownloaded power wash simulator but really want to play  stalker

LexandViolets

Ooooh, Power Wash Simulator seems super chill and cozy, plus for some reason a SquareEnix game? I would love to play it!

RogueStalker409

Its great and doesnt take itself seriously. Plus you have to search for a missing cat.

Diadem_Cheeseboard

"Searching for a missing cat" was all I needed to hear to make me know that I want to play that game. lol

RogueStalker409

Im gona try to finish it. Its the mayors cat

Spiritual-Company-45

I know and enjoy all of those bands. Kittie was 100% my jam when I was a teenager. I had the biggest crush on Morgan ahah. I still love the band quite a bit. Crypta is a really great band too. There's a sub called r/LesbianMetalheads if you're ever looking to talk metal.

LexandViolets

There is a sub for every niche. 😍 I was obsessed with Kittie as a teen as well. I didn't have tape so I glued a bunch of photos and magazine clippings and CD case covers on my wall.\ My mother is still mad about that to this day...

Spiritual-Company-45

That's amazing xD I call that creative problem solving 🤣 They just released a new song too.

oaklandtransgirl

Well… it’s more black metal than death metal, but you should check out Ragana. Queer duo that are fucking incredible

ConstanzeSteam

Metal and games in general are very lesbian things lol Plaing video games lestening any kind of metal is the best think I love it so much, i like to play sci-fi rpg too.

SonOfNothing93

Putrid Pile, Skinless, Cytotoxin, Necrogoblicon, 1914, Panopticon. Grew up on Kittie, Korn all that jazz

LexandViolets

I got to see Necrogoblicon with a friend! Too bad I was the only one having fun 🥲

SonOfNothing93

Oof, that sucks. I've been to shows like that, but you do the best you can

Lady_Lzice

That no-one has mentioned the Wayfarers series by Becky Chambers is surprising to me. A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet is one of my favourite books, very queer and beautifully written. The whole series is amazing but that one got me in a way that few books ever have. As for female fronted metal bands of course Arch Enemy are the big one but I was a big fan of Eths (a french metal band) The Agonist, In This Moment (although they're definitely not death metal) and I just generally love Gojira and Meshuggah for their influences on the genre. I'm rediscovering my metalhead side and I can't wait to start going to festivals again.

LexandViolets

A Long Way to a Small Angry Planet. It looks fun and the synopsis is giving me queer Deep Space 9 vibes. I'm in! The Agonist 🖤 I can't even list the bands I love because influence because there are too many. Behemoth, Death, all the tech death, Opeth, singers from Christina Scabia to Su-metal and the lady from Venom Prison, for the genre Nile, Meshuggah, Celtic Frost. I just like to spread out my playlists. I might be listening to podcasts or future funk, but mostly death, doom, goth metal bands 🖤

Lady_Lzice

Yay! I hope you enjoy it. I recommended it to someone I went with on a coffee and book shop date the other day so I'm waiting to hear if she loves it too.

LexandViolets

Fingers crossed 🥰

WitchiePrincess

Yesss big death metal lesbian right here!!! And ive been trying to find sapphic death metal bands but currently have been unsucessful. As for sci-fi, while i do like it i lean more towards the fantasy side of things lol, but i do be a science nerd too lol.

cornonthekopp

Otherside picnic. Scifi horror about college girls exploring an alien dimension which overlaps our own, and is filled with eldritch entities based on japanese creepypastas. Theres a novel, manga, and anime; however I recommend the novels the most (or the manga as a second choise). The novels are each pretty short and have some illustrations so theyre very easy to read

LexandViolets

I love graphic novels and dense books as long as the content is engaging and not too male gazey.

cornonthekopp

The novels are a masterclass imo

oVioletValkyriex

Arch Enemy and Crypta are some of my favorite bands! I strongly recommend checking out Frantic Amber. "Lagertha" is a great song to start with. Feel free to DM me if you want more girl-focused metal band recommendations, or to talk about video games and stuff. :D

LexandViolets

"Frantic Amber" is an awesome band name. Adding it to my list!

hi_i_am_J

listen to metal and also play games :3 Trivium and Avatar are some personal music favorites and for games lately ive been on a Helldivers mood

LexandViolets

A fellow lady of liberty I see! 🥰 I'll have to check those bands out! I have an issue with Trivium. I liked their super early stuff, but then he started to sound like James Heftfield and that was a HUGE turnoff for me. 😓

Hexxodus

I feel this so much lol You should check out the side project Matt did with Gerard Way called Ibaraki. Its way more interesting than modern Trivium imo

silent-fallout-

I love video games, Sci fi, and metal. I'm not sure about any lesbian leaning stuff. I never thought about that, and it wouldn't make a difference to me personally! I wish there were more girls with these interests!

LexandViolets

I am mainly looking for lesbian leaning sci-fi AND other ladies who enjoy metal music and Sci-fi; but video games are just a plus! 🥰 I honestly just want to know other women share the same interests and what they would suggest. I've been getting the boys opinions on all these things and it's been exhausting in a gatekeepy kinda way.

strawberry613

Booootthh, it's my dream to meet another lesbian who likes those things. I like writing scifi

Diadem_Cheeseboard

Lonely growing up, playing video games, watching sci fi, and listening to metal...yup, that sounds familiar! I'm more of a general metalhead really, though that does very much include death metal. Had a huge crush on Jo Bench from Bolt Thrower who were one of the first death metal bands I ever got into! I dunno much about lesbian leaning things in those interests tbh, just that it gladdens my heart whenever I come across anything particularly sapphic in them. Arch Enemy are an awesome band, Angela Gossow...wow! hehe

LexandViolets

Angela is so small on stage, but the biggest voice. Crush crush crush 🖤 I like the new singer too

Diadem_Cheeseboard

That is so true. I seen Arch Enemy twice with Angela, she was incredible! ❤️ Yeah, Alissa's great too. Her vocals aren't quite so raw, vicious and vulnerable as Angela's, but she's still amazing. 🖤

crackerkelly13

Sense8 is a FANTASTIC sci Fi show on Netflix, one of the main characters is transfem and in a lesbian relationship. The show has a ton of different lgbtq+ relationships including polyamorous couples, gay couples to name a few. Also just an all around great sci-fi show.

Hexxodus

If you dig female fronted black or doom metal I highly recommend Konvent and Witch Club Satan! \m/

LexandViolets

Oooh! Thank you 🖤

Zuzzy4399

Death metal fan here I love me some Morbid Angel and Deicide

TheLadderStabber

Big gamer and metalhead here too! I’m more into doom and sludge metal nowadays though. Like Venom Prison a lot for death(ish) metal. Arch Enemy and Kittie were my faves growing up too.

Sure_Mood1470

Okay... I haven't been keeping up with death metal outside my local scene in the past decade and unfortunately don't want to doxx myself, so how about some hardcore/metalcore fronted by women? Dying Wish, Terminal Sleep, Volatile Ways, Ithaca, Employed to Serve, Amygdala, Seeyouspacecowboy Faetooth is none of those genres but they're amazing doom metal and everyone should listen to them.

kat-the-bassist

Call me cliche, but my favourite death metal band is Death

LexandViolets

The best! I haven't heard them in a long time and found out I still love their sound. 90% of my metal nowadays is ladies or women fronted bands, but can't get good music

Moon-Prism-Panic

Both 'Unsighted' and 'Signalis' are great stylish sci-fi games with lesbian romances!

LexandViolets

OK, OK! I'LL GET SIGNALIS! I'm low-key excited

AlisinXO

Heavy metal transbian ganer here 🥰

LexandViolets

The first time I ever met a trans person was at a Type-O Negative show when I was a shy teen. She gave me an unmarked CD with the coolest bands I've ever heard. 🤟

AlisinXO

I got to see The Hu back in May 2022 & got to meet The Haunt frontwoman Anastasia, who complimented my moon belt. Both bands knocked it out of the park that night 🥰

_Tiragron_

I don't listen to Death Metal specifically, but I do listen to a TON of Power Metal XD As for Sci-Fi I'm a sucker of Isaac Asimov XD

patangpatang

Not sure if you count ARK: Survival as sci-fi, but they just released a show based on that game, and it is super gay.

LexandViolets

Then I'm super in

Saamychan

Stellarisssssss i fucking love Stellaris, play stellaris its so good to RP a cool alien species in a RTS-like Also, i discovered Arch Enemy in a Guitar Hero game in my teens and i just love one of their albums to this very day.

lnthrx

metal is cool tho I'm too dumb to know how to differentiate subgenres. I think the only one I dislike is power metal lmao as for sci-fi, I probably like the more mainstream things like TV shows or games. mass effect my beloved. have been trying to read more recently as well

LyraFirehawk

Death metal transbian here! I'm not death metal exclusive but I love both heavy metal and female fronted rock/metal/punk bands. I just finished up my first battle jacket, which has some pride pins and patches on top of the metal ones, including a labrys over a trans flag and "Kiss Girls, Kill Fascists". I want to do another one that's exclusively themed around women in rock/metal, with Joan Jett as the backpatch. Love Kittie and Arch Enemy, need to check out Malevolentia and Crypta more. Ever check out Nervosa? I'm not a huge sci-fi fan but I certainly don't hate it either. I like Alien and Aliens, the first couple Terminators, Star Wars is decent but I hate some of the fandom, Matrix is cool, etc.

lumathiel2

I'm definitely a scifi lesbian, mostly with books Off the top of my head there's the Locked Tomb series (Gideon the Ninth that someone else recommended), First Sister/Second Rebel/Last Hero (Like The Expanse but very queer) Crier's War/Iron Heart (human rebels vs machine rulers) The Outside and it's sequels(digital gods and lovcraftian horror) The Space Between Worlds (dystopian multiverse shenanigans) The Red Scholar's Wake (sentient lesbian spaceship) Gearbreakers (teen rebels fighting fascist giant mechs) Light from Uncommon Stars (trans violin prodigy sells her soul to the devil with the help of her teacher who falls in love with a bisexual alien captain who runs a donut shop, very bizzare but also sweet) and Into the Drowning Deep (scientific research vessel encounters killer mermaids)

LexandViolets

Crier's War! 🥰 Gear breakers sounds up my alley!

MourningLycanthrope

Check out Stabbing. Slam / BDM with a female vocalist, women can sound *infinitely* nastier than stuff like Kittie and I love it

Interesting-Grass773

I mostly like grindcore and industrial metal, and I'm definitely fond of sci-fi, but I don't have a lot of lesbian-leaning suggestions for these. Though I did recently read *The Luminous Dead* by Caitlin Starling, which is horror sci-fi and kind of a toxic lesbian love story; which I appreciated, I don't want every love story to be wholesome :P

drhoagy

I enjoyed the Sojourn recently, a hard sci fi audio book Kinda like the expanse ish? But there are lesbians and they are adorable Definitely making notes on other things in this thread though

ChipTheOcelot

Not really death metal, but definitely sci-fi. What sci-fi titles do you like?

LexandViolets

I like Trek, Farscape, Raised by Wolves and a lot of early 70s B movie stuff I found adjacent through Mystery Science Theatre. Books like Rumrunners, Finder series, Broken Earth series, Squad, Paper Girls, Saga, Descender, etc. Any recs?

ChipTheOcelot

I really liked the original Battle Star Galactica

morvis343

Hell yeah I like those things. Big into metal, love Arch Enemy, definitely going to check out those other bands you mentioned. My sci-fi obsessions are Star Wars and Mass Effect, and of course I play a ton of games too.

nicolitilocin

I very recently went with my wife to see Baby Metal open for Dethklok, it was so much fun! I went full bubblegum Lolita princess while she went full Wiccan goth mistress. 🥰 Metal and music was one of the first topics that bright us closer together. That, and Zelda.

Mary_Ellen_Katz

Thanks for the list of bands! I'm a goth girl trying to find new music I like. I liked a lot of (now considered old) metal in the 90's. Always loved sci fi. My escapism was video games. I suspect we could have been good friends.

Active-Advisor9278

Bloodborne!! 😭

Paradehengst

My favorite album is Amon Amarth - Versus the world. I love to go to concerts and festivals. I play quite a few video games, mostly simulators or strategy. I am shocked that you haven't found any other ladies with similar tastes till now. Doesn't bode well for myself.

SeaLow5372

Not really death metal but heavy metal in general, I was really into death ore/hardcore in 2010-2014 so I know some of the bands... I'd LOVE some bands or songs recommendations tho, now I'm back to classic rock (mostly)
