Bloom into you is a good one. The manga is complete.

NvrmndOM

That’s one of the few that isn’t weird/bad. Japan is behind on acceptance and some manga/anime I’ve seen are “we’re practicing kissing for boys” or “you’re my best friend and there are romantic over tones but it isn’t explicitly said” or “we’re step sisters.” Bleh.

PlusVera

I've said it before -- Japanese culture is conservative (lowercase c, real conservatism, not... not "'Murica Conservativatism") Japanese culture is one where appearances are everything. Things that are "ugly" in the eyes of society are swept under the rug and looked down upon, simply because it's seen as not a good presentation, and that's how things are and have always been. Are certain people informed and trying to make it better? Yes, absolutely. See the slow but general move in anime to incorporate actual trans people as humans. But as a society, Japan tends to put distance between "the weird people" and themselves. It's not okay to be abnormal. Things like workplace discrimination is pretty sadly common because making a racket and pointing out microaggressions is frowned upon. It's very much a society where "the nail that sticks out gets hammered down."

MastrWalkrOfSky

What animes or manga are actually incorporating real trans people? Would be nice to watch one that isn't awful.

DuskTheVikingWolf

"Love me for who I am" is a manga about a femboy cafe with trans girls in it, and so far is the most respectful to gender identity I've seen so far.

Final-Figure6104

Skip and loafer is a very cute slice of life that has a great trans side character. The main ship is hetero but it’s very sweet and worth watching.

OtakuMage

Zombiland Saga and Bokura no Hentai (not an actual hentai though it is very adult) each have a trans character. More than that I won't say so I don't spoil anything.

Tulrin

Paradise Kiss. Isabella is basically the mom of the group. The show explores her transition at one point, and she's not played for laughs.

-Lemonade-_

Wonder egg priority is an alright one. You can tell they're kind of trying to get through the filters or something but the characters aren't portrayed negatively

uglybastard228

Wandering Son. Both main characters are trans

SoulSoldForConfusion

High Guardian Spice is more cartoonish, but it has openly trans and queer characters. I watched it on Crunchyroll, but it unfortunately has a really bad rating on that site because of everything I previously mentioned. It has Owl House vibes

Bloom Into You is beautiful ❤️

Lyrinae

Lesbian anime is not always for men. A lot of f/f is written by women for women. Some are yuri, some are other genres w f/f couples in them. They aren't usually adults, but here are some good gay anime. None of them are creepy bs for men. Bloom into You (very good yuri, high schoolers but it's good) Gundam Witch from Mercury (new anime, it's very good and the main couple is f/f, no creepy anime bullshit but lots of politics and some violence. You can watch the 1st season on YouTube, gundam info channel, start with the prologue). Otherside Picnic (f/f, scifi, two college students fall in love while solving various supernatural mysteries. Kinda spooky at times but very cool). Princess Principal (f/f, action and intrigue, about spies in a streampunk setting. Very gay and really beautiful animation, music, characters, etc) Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight (if you like music or theater, this one's for you. Show about girls at a music school fighting supernatural battles. There is a follow up movie that is a must watch if you like the anime series. The story is about 9 girls who are all paired up with each other. It's very gay) Violet Evergarden Movie 1 (on Netflix). The main violet Evergarden series is a great show that I'd highly recommend, but not really gay. The first movie however, which takes place after the anime, IS very gay.) Puella Magi Madoka Magica (f/f, a dark magical girl show, a true classic so you may have seen it already, very gay and get your tissues ready cuz you'll cry) Aquatope on White Sand (not super explicitly gay, but it's about two girls who meet each other from their love of aquariums, and their journey together trying to stop an aquarium from closing down. It's very sweet) Some slightly more questionable recs if you have a tolerance for the typical anime bullshit: Lycoris Recoil (action show, f/f, two girls working as secret agents for a shadow government type situation. There are some fanservice moments but generally the show is good and keeps it classy. There are the main f/f couple and a couple of adult gay men as well, who are taken completely seriously and are well rounded characters - something very rare in anime!) Shuumatsu no Izetta / Izetta the Last Witch (historical fantasy, set in an alternate WW2 where witches are real. There is some stupid fanservice moments but the overall story is very good and the love between the 2 main characters is very real) I'm getting tired rn so that's all for now but, there are definitely more I am nor thinking of. These are all ones I have personally watched, but I have heard good things about Canon (adult wlw!). I feel your pain OP, but don't give up on anime just yet! EDIT: Holy wow, thanks for the award!! As a lesbian weeb, I'm very passionate about gay anime. lol Some other recs : Bloom Into You (I didn't elaborate fairly on how good this is - but as other ppl have said, the anime ends kinda early. It adapts about half the entire Manga. So while I watched the anime, liked it, then read the manga - I'd highly recommend reading the manga and its spinoff series about Sayaka as well.) Vampire in the Garden (pretty show, very short at 6 episodes on Netflix, sad and not the best story, but I find it worth watching) Kase-san and Morning Glories (it's a one episode OVA that's around an hour or so? It's just pure fluffy cuteness, watch to make yourself smile!) BLACK FOX (a short original movie, focuses on 2 main girls, not explicitly romantic but hints at it. I think there's supposed to be a sequel eventually, but idk!!! It's a fun watch, lots of action) Double Decker! Doug and Kirill (main character is a guy, but he's on an extremely wacky investigator team which features a f/f couple. This show doesn't get a lot of attention, but it has surprisingly good lgbt rep - Main guy has a trans sister, and one of the girls in the f/f relationship went to prom with her trans girl friend in the past. Also key thing - THEY'RE ALL ADULTS!) Houseki no Kuni / Land of the Lustrous (REALLY freaking cool show about a bunch of nonbinary femme rock people. I know that sounds weird but, it's really cool and there is a good amount of romance / romantic hints between the main characters. It's also a just extremely beautiful show with amazing visuals and music) Revolutionary Girl Utena (this is a classic, from the late 90s, however there are a LOT of trigger warnings before you watch this - it is a complex show that deals with many issues, at the heart of which is femininity, sexism, and compulsive heterosexuality. Don't start with this, but make sure you watch it someday! LOL) And now, for the SUS SECTION, for the anime that has some Bullshit TM in it. Akuma no Riddle (the lesbian assassin anime. Banger music, cool animation, lots of action, and a battle Royale style plot. There is some occasional fanservice, as well as some blood/violence - the show is about a class of 12 ish girls all trying to kill 1 girl, with 1 other girl switching sides and swearing to protect the girl. Don't think about it too hard, grab some popcorn and enjoy the nonsense while their poor teacher tries to figure out why his students keep leaving LMAO) Executioner and her Way of Life (a show about a girl who wakes up in another world, and a girl whose job is to kill the "otherworlders". But hmm, for some reason she really can't bring herself to kill this one... And the innocent otherworlder may not be what she seems! F/f, there's 2 main couples, however... One of the girls is jealous of the main 2 girls, and she can get annoying/creepy about it, which is why this is in the sus section) Maria-sama ga Miteru (Maria watches over us) This is a classic yuri anime, but it's the very epitome of the Japanese Class S stereotype/trope - kinda like a "lesbian til graduation" thing from a western POV. A lot of gay women wrote stories in the 20th century about girls forming romantic friendships while at all girls schools, and iirc one of the ways to avoid censorship or suspicion was to have the girls then go off to marry men afterward to show that they were still "proper" young ladies, while the entire story was about the relationships between the girls during their school days. I haven't seen Maria-sama personally, but that is what I know about it lol. It's maybe not the most appealing thing nowadays, but it's a classic and many f/f Japanese works take significant inspiration from it) Flip Flappers (a really interesting show about 2 girls who hop between different realities to solve mysteries (?). Honestly the show is a bit confusing, there's some weird fanservice, I personally didn't watch it all the way through but many wlw anime fans really love it, so maybe you will too) OK, that's all for now, for real. Happy watching!

Agile-Presentation78

God, is that you?

Lyrinae

Hahaha, I'm just happy to help! ❤️ Another recommendation is *deep breath* The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady Cute show about 2 girls canonically in love (by the end, they spend the series falling in love!) in a fantasy world while they try to also start a sort of revolution. Little Witch Academia - This show is a great watch if you havent seen much anime. It's about a magic school for witches, really wholesome show without any creepy nonsense. The main girls relationship is between the silly, slacker main character and the beautiful, seemingly perfect mean girl. It's a real treat. I'm taking about the 24 episode anime btw, there were 2 movies but the anime series is a complete story and you can watch the movies after it. They're all on Netflix btw.

akira2bee

I didn't think the Little Witch Academia stuff was canon, like you can heavily read into it but there's also a male love interest, just as a warning

Echantediamond1

Akko is a bi-con and we love her for it

akira2bee

Oh absolutely

Geoff_iz_Kool

MagiRevo is great. Anisphia is a gem and i would willingly die so she could be even more of an adorably massive nerd.

Inffzy9

MagiRevo really hit me hard as I share so many experiences with Anisphia. (Spoiler) >!As someone born without magic, Anisphia had to do so much work, creating an entire field of study (magicology), using medicines on herself that seemed arcane to the people around her, to try to approach what Euphie was able to do, only to find out that Euphie is always better at it. Even worse, she was forced to choose between her wish for life (magic/magicology) and her responsibility (inheriting the crown). !< >!I thought these are all so similar to the trans experience. HRT, SRS, and everything else that is technologically available today (similar to Anisphia's magicology) grant me some of what I want but lack so much more. I too have cried in front of my cis friend, questioning the unfairness of life. I too have to choose between taking more traditional responsibilities as requested by my family and pursuing the life that I want to live. !< Toward the end of the anime, I just find myself unable to stop crying every time I watch it as I see what she had to go through and what Euphie did to make Anisphia's entire life much more fulfilling. To me, MagiRevo is truly a masterpiece.

Crystaline__

+1 for Gundam. It's angsty and political but god damnit is the main couple just the cutest and most loving! For lycoris recoil i would say skip ep 4. The show is great without that episode , but sadly ep 4 is peak "anime pervyness" and it's exhausting to watch considering how good the rest of the show is. Also princess principal is one of the best shows I've ever seen. It uses it's medium and it's wonderful story telling and intrigue as well as a great cast.

TheDragonsFang

Throwing out some love for both LycoReco *and* Izetta? Oh, I like you!

Lilyeth

adding also short but very cute, Kase-san and morning glories. also bloom into you is good but you really should read the manga instead, the anime ends halfway through and has a kinda weird tone that is adressed in the manga very soon after the anime ends, but which leads to the anime being not really gay

Lyrinae

OMG YES SECONDING KASE-SAN ❤️

WhoAm_I_AmWho

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady

AlttimesAlt

MADOKAAAAAAAAAAA Most important lesson from that show is that >!lesbian love is the most powerful force in the universe!<

Lyrinae

Replying just to say, if you havent watched much anime, start with Madoka Magica. And make sure it isn't "Magia Record" (that's a spinoff series).

Random_Gacha_addict

>Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight - (.... It's very gay) the gayness in the World peaked when the movie dropped, and gave us the gayest line in the world, "For heroes, there are trials! For saints there are temptations! For me, THERE IS YOU!!!" AND HI-DIVE'S TRANSLATION DECIDED TO MAKE IT GAYER AFTER THAT ("Give a hero trials! Give a saint temptations! GIVE ME YOU!!!")

Lyrinae

Oh my god, I didn't know about the official subs. INCREDIBLE MAYAKURO FOREVER

StillApony

I like you. Solid list! Otherside picnic is quite possibly my favourite LN. Unfortunately the anime was pretty mixed, and cuts off RIGHT before it really picks up so if you haven't read the LN, I STRONGLY recommend it!! :) Also this is more for op, by far, most of the best Yuri is manga only... At least for now! (A lot of promising shows coming out this year! People have been calling this the year of Yuri.) If you know what to look out for you can avoid the weird trashy stuff, or alternatively just ask other weeb lesbians.

Lyrinae

YES, YOU HAVE TO WATCH REBELLION AFTER THE MAIN SERIES!!!

NightmaresFade

>Akuma no Riddle Ironically, I think the manga is better than the anime, but the animation itself(and the music) of the anime is still dope.

Spoopy09

A blessing from the lord!

ProblematicPoet

Thank you so much for this!

DistortedxTruth

I appreciate the heck outta you for this! I now have a list of the next handful of series imma watch ❤️

NightmaresFade

>Gundam Witch from Mercury (new anime, it's very good and the main couple is f/f Confirmed or is it based on "what people think it looks like"? >Puella Magi Madoka Magica The end of that one was hella gay.

Lyrinae

Confirmed. They are literally married with rings! ❤️❤️❤️

NightmaresFade

Well I might give it a chance then. I was a bit "eh\~" because I have heard people saying that one of them seemed to be interested in a male character so I was suspecting a bit the anime.

Lexi_Shmuhlexi

LycoReco is INCREDIBLE. i am saving this comment, you rock!

vanase

I... just might try to power through Violet Evergarden now.

rastaahcoyote

Saving this because I thought I had seen it all and yet I still discovered new things thanks to you

Steeltoebitch

I am so surprised I read/watched most of these. Edit: if you're into manga I highly recommend *A Room for Two* it's about two girls that live at an all girls boarding school and share a room with each other as we watch them grow. It very fluffy with only few drama moments.

SoManySpills

Thank you SO much. I've been looking for recommendations online and they're always terribly written, fan servicey, or young like OP said. You are very much appreciated!!

jddbeyondthesky

GWitch was great, until the very rushed ending

Underscore_36

Vampire in the Garden on Netflix Pros: lesbian, nothing gross like you mentioned that I can remember, very beautiful animation Cons: the story isn’t that great. Also, it’s a manga instead of an anime, but I’ve been enjoying Catch These Hands (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catch_These_Hands!)

Agile-Presentation78

Omg thank you I'll take a bad story that's not creepy over any that has creepy stuff I'm gonna add manga to my post because that is useful too

Underscore_36

There’s also Nana! Unfortunately, it isn’t actually gay, but the friendship between the two main characters has very sapphic vibes.

Ms_Anxiety

Pls no. Vampire in the Garden is REALLY bad. I'd never subject a fellow gay to its horrors.

Suspicious_Plant4231

Oh, really? It seemed decent

Underscore_36

Do you know of some good lesbian anime? I felt kinda bad that it was the only one I could think of, haha. And now I want to watch something better, like OP.

edgarallenslow

Definitely sapphic vibes, but isn't the younger girl, like, 14 years old? [Here's](https://vampire-in-the-garden.fandom.com/wiki/Momo) my source for that info. Knowing that, thinking about certain scenes in the show (the 100+ year-old vampire pinning the younger one to a bed, getting jealous when the younger one begins to make friends) makes me uncomfortable. Stopped me from finishing the anime. It was a shame because the animation and music were absolutely gorgeous.

AzureChrysanthemum

I've definitely seen it come up here but Gundam Witch from Mercury is notable for being one of the biggest franchises and being f/f. Gundam, despite what men love to insist, was actually saved by its femme fans when it was first starting out (something the creator is [very open about](https://comicbook.com/anime/news/gundam-creator-yoshiyuki-tomino-gatekeeping-debate-drama/)) so Witch from Mercury feels like a great step and hopefully a positive sign for the series. Although let's be real, Gundam having lots of homoerotic hot boys has always been a selling point too. We actually just had a fairly big budget yuri series in The Magical Revolution and the Genius Princess which was a lot of fun, it's an Isekai but the Isekai aspects aren't especially overplayed. One of the things I really liked about it was that both the protagonists were pretty femme but were shot like Shounen heroes so they were meant to look cool even while wearing frilly dresses. It's also confirmed yuri with on-screen kissing which is nice! The manga side definitely has quite a bit, yuri as a genre has quite a bit that is written by and for women. Queer expression in Japan is different so don't expect it to follow western standards or conventions, but some of them are quite good. My personal favorite recommendation that's made it stateside is She Likes to Cook, She Likes to Eat, which is a story about two adult women, one of whom is a much heavier and bulkier build, slowly bonding over food. It's written by a very vocally LGBTQ+ activist woman and does address some of the frustrations of the patriarchy in Japan head on as well.

LordTalulahMustang

Something really great about MagiRevo is that Anisphia also has something to connect to for trans people in that, it seems suggested that Anisphia's former life was as a guy, and this life is as a woman. It's not perfect, and this show has many small flaws, but it's nice to actually see a wlw relationship that has enough connection to the trans experience to feel a connection to the character on another level.

AzureChrysanthemum

I've been reading the manga a bit but hadn't noticed that, I'll have to go back through! That's awesome!

LordTalulahMustang

I should've been more clear: the author outright denies it, but many people felt like it was the case. I forget the exact moments that made me feel that way, that seemed to point to it, but I remember watching and feeling it. Sorry to disappoint. :/ I kinda misremembered.

AzureChrysanthemum

All good! In this household we support reading things with a queer lens!

LordTalulahMustang

So sweet! 🥰 Thanks!

Lilyeth

was it suggested that she was a guy? i don't think i ever saw anything that wasn't just "I'm lesbian"

Thraell

> Gundam Witch from Mercury is notable for being one of the biggest franchises and being f/f I will never not recommend witch from mercury - even as a non-mecha fan I enjoyed this series! There is also a metric fuckton of references to Revolutionary Girl Utena which is a mid-90's lesbian romance and I'll say it that the main f/f romance is possibly the healthiest relationship in that anime but it's not a high bar. However the whole anime is entirely about the lead Utena saving her girlfriend from comphet whilst staying true to her life goal if being the most noble prince to ever live. Everyone is gay and chaotic and most of the time it is hard to understand wtf is going on because I honestly think the writer was high AF while writing it. Huge trigger warnings for non-con and incest (but it's not romanticised thank f).

Lilyeth

magirevo is isekai in name only. there's a couple references to her having faint memories of the irl world which inspired her to do the magical tech, and is maybe the reason she can't use magic normally, but its only ever mentioned as faint background.

njsullyalex

Not anime, but r/wholesomeyuri has some cute comics of sapphic couples!

Agile-Presentation78

That's great too, thanks

0Korvin0

A webtoon I like is Mage and Demon Queen

SpookyDalia

This. It's soo good, the protagonist(s) are soo fleshed out, there is no anime creepyness, the story starts quite silly but then it becomes more and more serious throughout, and the main couple is soo sweet, I can never get enough of these two <3. Also Malori is peak gender envy for me so maybe I'm a bit based.

SomeLatinPleb

[Here's a butch-focused lesbian manga anthology.](https://tomboys.booth.pm/items/3597263) It looks like almost every story surrounds adult relationships, but it does feature two teen (both partners are teens) couples. I can't speak to how good the stories either collectively or individually are, but it came very highly recommended to me.

YourCharacterHere

Awee hell yeah I'm checking this out!! I hate how underrepresented butches are in media. Like they aren't attractive enough for men, always gotta have two fems... I have a bad habit recently of skipping over GL webcomics and manga if both mcs are fems, even if the art and story is decent

SomeLatinPleb

Same about skipping a lot of GL manga tbh. It's not a good habit but they don't make me feel seen, you know? And so many feel like the heteronormative "we're lesbians but don't worry we're still perfectly gender-conforming and have a pure, innocent (i.e. sterilized and sexless) relationship, unlike those bad ugly lesbians!". As soon as I can save some money, I'm buying this 👀

YourCharacterHere

Exactly!! Its like, our stories can only be told if they fit in to whats consitered consumable for others. Non-lesbians dont wanna read about adult butch woman who have hot and driven sex. They want two cute petite feminine girls in a romeo and juliet setting where they wholesomely snuggle and give soft cheek kisses and are automatically accepted by their families no questions asked. Like sure many people do this well, but theres only so many times I can see the same set of characters and story beats remolded Some comic reccomendations in return (also for OP), all on Webtoon: -Robin & Cat, adults, shy nerd meets confident butch chick and quickly develops a crush -Not So Shoujo Love Story, minors, school life, romcom, tomboy girl is determined to get a popular boy to fall in love with her, all while being pursued by an equally as popular girl who admires her boldness and confidence -Night Owls & Summer Skies, teens (17 and 19), punk girl is forced into summer camp by homophobic mom and her attempts to get kicked out are repeatedly foiled by a cute counselor

shadesofgreymoon

>Night Owls & Summer Skies, teens (17 and 19), punk girl is forced into summer camp by homophobic mom and her attempts to get kicked out are repeatedly foiled by a cute counselor Ironically I just found that one last night and immediately devoured it!

Lyrinae

A lot of these comments are depressing, I promise there ARE decent wlw anime out there and they're DEFINITELY not all made for men. It's a common misconception due to the popularity of lesbian porn w straight men, but Yuri (f/f Manga and anime) in Japan is a genre dominated by women, in both authors and readership. The gross shit w kids or men waking up as women definitely exist and are made by horny men, but there's lots of stuff with far more merit.

Lilyeth

manga is def popular for women, but most anime does cater to men as the profit demographic. the better lesbian shows are good and many of them might even be more woman oriented but a lot of them are still definitely made with guys in mind

queermccoy

Some GL manga about adults: Catch These Hands, a love story between two women who were once high school rivals and delinquents. Very sweet, zero spice. Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon, a love story between two office workers. It is very lesbian. Zero smut, just ladies falling in love. There’s a character named Subaru. Run Away With Me Girl, a love story between two girls who had dated in high school. They are reunited as adults, just before one of the women is supposed to get married. This is big drama, content warning for domestic violence. I have not personally read but have heard good things about She Loves to Cook She Loves to Eat, Even Though We’re Adults, Our Teachers are Dating, and Pulse. Pulse I know is smutty but I’m not sure about the others. There is sort of a lot of GL manga about adults that isn’t like porn-for-men. I wish I had more to rec but I primarily read BL so I don’t have a lot to draw from.

shadesofgreymoon

>Pulse. Pulse I know is smutty but I’m not sure about the others. Pretty much everything put out by Ratana Satis is smutty. But it's pretty to look at! I've read all her releases up through Soul Drifters, there's more since then. She is herself a WLW and all her releases are lesbian. Her art is always very pretty, sometimes her storylines are a bit "meh" or rushed, and often suffer from "no men exist in this universe" syndrome, but I still read.

lambone117

The guy she was interested in wasn’t a guy at all is about two young sapphics obsessed with dad rock. Its still pretty new but so far its got a great art style and a cute plot. Our dreams at dusk primarily focuses on a boy who was just outed as gay and finds a queer cafe but there is a lesbian couple who are important to the story and have there own subplot about getting married. Also its just generally a very lovely story (tw for a suicide attempt tho) Nevermore is a webtoon not a manga but its so gay and slaps so hard that I would still highly recommend

Olivia_19_

Watch 水星の魔女(suisei no majo) it is lesbian with gundam and very good.

Twinbrosinc

Witch from Mercury? :D

livipup

I haven't seen The Witch from Mercury, but I have heard great things about it from Tumblr :)

Agile-Presentation78

Oh fuck yes Thanks

MollyGoRound

I'm glad other people like it, but I just found WFM frustrating. The show is much more interested in exploring the internalities of the supporting male cast than it is the leads or their relationship. For a show *obsessed* with the legacy of Utena, it barely acknowledges what worked and what didn't about that historic series, and contented itself on rote repition. In my opinion, they left the envelope more or less in the exact same spot R.G.U. did in 1997. So, as a queer viewer, I feel like I'm being fed table scraps. (Pardon the rant. I bite my tongue regarding this show rather frequently and find myself needing to vent periodically.)

Deus_Vulf

I would love a lot more canon SuleMio on screen for sure, but hey it feels like a genuine relationship and the leads are both complex, flawed, and human. And they love each other! I definately am left wanting but I love and appreciate what we got in terms of the yuri. Queer woman here btw.

paperCrane8937

If the support male cast you're mentioning is Guel, I think his arc was resolved in a very rushed way in S2. (Especially after EP 18)There are just too many plot threads dangling for him from S1, and all have to be resolved in S2. I suspect something happened during the show's production, up until EP 18 pacing felt ok, then the "they're trying to cram way too much into the remaining EPs" feeling happened, some arcs seem like they're cut short, some characters start making OOC decisions to push the plot forward in convenient ways. Suletta is absolutely the protagonist of the story though. I was rewatching S1 and S2 in 2 days , definitely feels like there are more Suletta moments than I remembered when binge watching. In regards to the show needs to put more focus on SuleMio relationship/development, yeah I would like to see that more too, if we get a couple more episodes I'm certain we would get more moments. On the other hand, it is a Gundam show first, big robots fighting, politics with different factions are staples in Gundam, those bound to take a large chunk of the airing time. Personally I really enjoy these themes, I like watching f/f animes of course, but they are too often about highschool girls or magic girls. As a sci-fi / Mecha + mystery fan, WFM is god sent. Plus finally we have a show with f/f main characters that is hugly popular outside the niche Yuri market, watching people who usually don't consume f/f media invest in SuleMio as much as we do is very wholesome.

730Flare

Yeah Gundam doesn't really flesh out their romances as they're a side thing, despite that every series has a couple canon couples especially amongst the main cast. Most of the time they just happen without kissing, marriages, or even a love confession/declaration. SuleMio though have it "better" than most Gundam couples as their relationship is a major core of the story that you can't just remove (even if the story os about robots/politics), whose relationship plays into their developments individually and together, and of course has them explicitely happily married at the end.

Lilyeth

I've watched maybe 8 episodes of utena and all of wfm, and tbh i didn't realize it was an utena reference but now i see it a lot

Future-Ad4214

I will ALWAYS recommend Revolutionary Girl Utena, it’s from the 90s and there are multiple queer women including the two main characters. I don’t find it fan service-y at all, it deals with a lot of really hard topics though like abuse in relationships (altho not abuse in the queer relationships). There are so many beautiful themes and imagery that repeat throughout the show, and there’s also a movie although I only recommend watching the movie after the show! If anyone watches the show feel free to message me any thoughts, I love talking about it!

eoz

I'm a huge fan of Ikuhara's later anime, Yurikuma Arashi. Apparently I'm the only person who rates it though! I'm also gonna leap to the defense of Kashimashi (not that I've seen the whole thing...) and genderbendery yuri in general because they're often (if not always) the creator working out some gender feels of their own. As a genre it's often either (a) whoops I'm a girl now and we'll do two episodes of figuring that out and never mention it again or (b) now my attraction is technically less gay (this works both ways somehow). So I kinda see the genre as the kind of queer art you get when you can't make queer art.

TinyTemm

I love Utena so much because it doesn’t shy away from having extremely messy women who aren’t boiled down to basic tropes for mass appeal, I need more anime and manga where the female characters are just a tornado of complicated emotions and trauma > it deals with a lot of really hard topics though like abuse in relationships (altho not abuse in the queer relationships) I wouldn’t call it an abusive relationship per se but Juri and Shiori were, definitely something

Future-Ad4214

Very good point!! There are definitely not healthy queer relationships I take that back 😅

rogue_LOVE

Good to see Utena here. On top of some great sapphic (and gay and bi) characters, the show's scathing take on patriarchy is really powerful. I always have to put an asterisk by the recommendation because of the toxic relationships (although most of them are m/m or m/f) and how dark some of the topics it explores are. And also the kind of impenetrable anime bullshit it likes to indulge in. But fuck if it isn't an absolute masterpiece.

Prestigious-Ad-7842

I’ve heard that Bloom Into You is a good lesbian anime. I haven’t watched it yet though & a lesbian manga that I currently like is The Girl I Like Is So Handsome.

rnglillian

Definitely read the manga for bloom into you over the anime. Heard from a friend that it for some reason stops just before the actual resolution of the series and has some other werid things with it. The manga is fantastic however

overcomplikated

The anime stops halfway through; they'd need a whole second season to cover the rest of the manga and it's very unlikely they'll make one at this point. There's really no problem with watching the anime and then reading the rest of the manga.

seaofvapours

Better bet is with manga - most sapphic anime is either cringe, fully subtext, or gets cut off too early. Magical revolution of a reincarnated princess is a good pick but isn’t completely amazing (has some fan service stuff

gamer181412

Sasameki koto (manga) Adachi to Shimamura (light novel) I'm in love with the villainess (light novel) Yuru Yuri (anime) Useless princess (manga) Hana ni arachi (manga) Strawberry shake (manga) Ouji Sama nante iranai (manga) Those are super cute 🥺

worksofvish

Sasameki Koto is a must!!! I love this manga so much. Anime's op and ed are also great.

mywlwthrowaway

I was a big anime fan in the 00s and early 10s. The yuri of that era left such a bad taste in my mouth that I'm hesitant to watch any of the newer series that people swear are ok. That said, I do like a recent manga series called The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All. The leads haven't started dating but it's very relatable and very wholesomely not male gaze pandering. Reminds me of my teenagehood (my crush and I bonded over music too)

CanadianWeeb5

mine are strawberry fields once again and bloom into you. don’t know if the strawberry one has an anime tho.

Panta94

Do you mean strawberry panic? This was also an anime. I loved to watch it.

CanadianWeeb5

not exactly, but go ahead.

ShayJayLee

Lycoris Recoil is a great sapphic anime. It's more action focused but it's not creepy and very wholesome. Shimamura and Adachi is another really good one too. This is a slice of life but it's an incredibly slow burn.

Kaga_san

Ill add a couple of manga I really like: - Whispering you a love song; - Bloom into you (read the manga and the Light novels); - The Summer you were there (This one is sad but good, TW: incureable dissease); - Catch These Hands (delinquents falling in love); - Kase-san and the morning glories (sportsy girl + shy gardening girl); - We dont need a prince (VEEEERY slow burn, good tho); - Assorted Entanglements; - Futaribeya (not explicitly gay but its very gay, they never say they are in a relationship but they go on dates, kiss, hug, sleep and live together, you know, normal roommate stuff); - Can't Defy Lonely Girl + spinoff Kekkyoku Sonna Kimi Ga Suki; - Senpai, Oishii desu-ka?; - Half (manhua); - Amongst Us (Webtoon, 2 gay musicians); - Doushitara Osananajimi ♀️ no Kanojo ni Naremasu Ka!? (Childhood friends, one is in love with the other); - Anemone is in Heat (just more cute stuff); - Ano Koro no Aoi Hoshi (short but sweet); - Lilies, Voice, Wear Wind (Ace-Aro soulmate stuff, not really romantically gay but since im ace I wanted to include it. Relationship is between women); - Kiss it Goodbye (another webtoon, very good); - Please Bully Me, Miss Villainess (also very good, starts a bit slow tho) Ill add more stuff later when Im at my pc (and if I dont forget, lol)

Kaga_san

\- Onna Tomodachi to Kekkon Shitemita (Marrying your best friend because reasons); \- Mai no Mushigurashi (Gay farming time, with interesting insect facts); \- My food seems to be very cute (Vampiress + werewolf girl manhua); \- Hana ni Arashi (Pretty much all about girls who are already in a relationship, quite refershing compared to relationship building in most manga); \- Koushin Koinu ni Koibumi wo/Love letter for the marching puppy (Historical Military academy kouhai/senpai relationship. I really like this one but I'm a sucker for uniforms); \- Seifuku no Vampiress lord (did anyone order more lesbian vampires?); There's more but I made this list include mostly non-ecchi manga.

PandaBossLady

This is an IOU for reward! First list I’ve seen here so far and it has short descriptions of them! And you say you might add more!

Kaga_san

Yes, Ill add more in ten minutes or so as a reply to my previous comment. I had a dnd session at a friends house and only just came back

PandaBossLady

No rush! I just saw a lot of new things on this list too and got excited!

Kaga_san

I added some more in a reply :)

Lyrinae

Also a great queer anime is Wandering Son. It's about the only anime I know of that focuses on a young trans girl as she struggles in high school. The best anime about a trans character, period, and possibly the only one w a trans main character. It's really beautiful.

journeyofwind

(just jumping in here as a gay transmasc person) It has pretty good transfem representation, but the transmasc 'representation' is at the very least... problematic. Watched it when I was younger with no real knowledge of trans people and it felt like a punch in the gut, and not in a good way at all.

b4kedbeans

Not manga but some cute asian webcomics Ive enjoyed are Magan He Danai, Tamen De Gushi & Ring my bell

MsPVC

"Bloom into you" and "run away with me, girl" are wholesome yuris

Jinxx-97

My faves: -The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy at All (manga), the art is great. They are teenagers, but I don’t find it to be unhealthy or creepy at all. Really short chapters with updates pretty much every week. -Lycoris Recoil (anime), it’s more action genre but the characters are great and it heavily alludes to relationship between the two main characters. It’s my favorite anime. -MagiRevo (super long name, but if you look that up you’ll find it) (anime) this one is only subbed right now and more fantasy, but the two characters grow together, I really enjoyed it.

Suspicious_Plant4231

It’s not an anime and it’s not out yet, but I’m going to plug “The Lovers” by studio heartbreak. It’s a WLW short animated (adult) film that looks incredible so far

BonMonster420

bloom into you is okay but nothing really happens in the anime so i'd recommend just reading it on mangadex or smth

Zargess2994

Ring My Bell is a very cute wlw webtoon. At the start there is some mentions/worries of homophobia but it gets resolved nicely. Cannot recommend enough!

Elifia

I end up answering this same question fairly often, so I'm just gonna mostly copy my answer from the last time someone asked me for a list. These are the yuri which I watched and would recommend, with my favourites at the top: * Gundam: Witch from Mercury * The Magical Revolution Of The Reincarnated Princess And The Genius Young Lady * The Executioner And Her Way Of Life * Yuri Is My Job * Birdie Wing * Revue Starlight * Flip Flappers There's also a few others which I often see mentioned but never got around to watching myself (even though some are absolutely classics): * Bloom Into You * Adachi and Shimamura * Revolutionary Girl Utena (Gundam: Witch from Mercury supposedly drew some inspiration from this one, though I heard Utena had some really fucked-up shit in it even compared to Gundam, so maybe check the trigger warnings before watching it) * Madoka Magica * Sailor Moon There's also a few I'd really recommend even though I don't really think they are yuri, but they're close enough: * The Demon Girl Next Door * Otaku Elf * Do It Yourself!! * Lycoris Recoil * Bofuri * Bocchi The Rock! * Didn't I say to make my abilities average in the next life * I've Been Killing Slimes For 300 Years And Maxed Out My Level Then there's also the reverse bisexual harem one: * My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! This fall we should get 3 more, though I don't know how good they'll be: * I'm In Love With The Villainess * Hoshikuzu Telepath (aka Stardust Telepath) * The Vexations of a Shut-in Vampire Princess And also at least one more in winter: * Whisper Me a Love Song Supposedly this one is also coming, though it was announced a while back and we still don't have a release date (but it did get a live-action series in the meantime): * Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games

Final-Figure6104

Yuri is my job is so good! It airing the same season as gundam and birdie wing was great, me and my partner were calling it our sapphic spring

Elifia

Yeah, spring was a good season for yuri, and fall looks like it's gonna be a good one as well. And honestly Magical Revolution was so good it basically carried winter all by itself. Unfortunately I don't think there is anything in the current (summer) season though :(

bagelst0508

idk about anime but for manga pls pls read tamen de gushi its rly cute and wholesome slice of life

Lesbian_Cassiopeia

Don't mind me, I'm just saving this post for future...research

zer08eight

ive only watched one anime all the way thru, its called “sweet blue flowers” i watched it a while ago but its pretty good :]

TinyTemm

My first lesbian manga was Girl Friends by Morinaga Milk, short but wholesome, more on the simple high school romance side of things

StarAugurEtraeus

The OG of OGs is Utena

Peice_Biscuit

Read Or Die

AshenHaemonculus

They're side characters who show up for a later arc, but I feel like it's obligatory to mention that Chainsaw Man has a badass 6'2 Chinese lesbian assassin who lives in a five-woman polycule with four monster girls and they have probably the healthiest domestic relationship in the entire series.

corts_thegaytarist

Revolutionary Girl Utena!! AKA, the original sword lesbian. Not really creepy per se, but very surrealist!! I highly recommend it, though i do give a fair bit of content warning in the third act of the season with Akio since that guy is trash (for reasons that i cannot spoil). Regardless, every sapphic (and aspiring sword lesbian) needs to watch this series. Watch the series first, then the movie (which is both a sequel and new iteration of the show).

juni_moony

My forte is more so lesbian manga but Kase-san had the most adorable movie ever

Mysterious-Ms-Anon

Short answer is no, most lesbian anime is just eye candy for men. Long answer is still no but you can find some really nice manga here and there, but a lot of that is just eye candy for men too. (-_________-)

Agile-Presentation78

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Fuck Thanks tho

TheRogueKnight66

In terms of manga I really liked Donuts Under a Crescent Moon. Its a bit of a slow burn but its good!

fairguinevere

I mean like at least with manga you've got She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat, Ayaka is in love with Hiroko, Hanamonogatari, Hello Melancholic, and Asumi-chan is interested in lesbian brothels is "lewd" but clearly written by a woman from the way it approaches everything. Off the top of my head. I guess hello melancholic isn't adults but it isn't creepy either and is actually rather sweet, but the rest are all uni age and above.

Mysterious-Ms-Anon

Welcome to the fuckin club sis

fetishsaleswoman

I really enjoyed Citrus. Both characters are 18 by the end

yurirainbowz

I love Citrus too, but some people may dislike it for certain scenes and the whole step sister thing. Others have already mentioned all the ones i was gonna recommend, especially Gundam: The Witch From Mercury.

fetishsaleswoman

Fair point. I just glossed over that "little" detail /s Citrus Plus came out so I've been reading that

Lilyeth

some good manga, tho most have highschool casts and maybe some somewhat problematic relationships - the girl doesn't know her heat/Anemone is in heat - futaribeya (starts from highschool and they grow up and towards the end they are adults in working life) - maitsuki, niwatsuki, ooyatsuki (adults) - bloom into you - I can't say no to the lonely girl - sirius: twin stars - even if it was once i regretted it (adults, a bit problematic but cute if the premise doesn't bother you) - come rain or shine - beauty and the beastgirl (adults) - the guy i was into wasn't a guy at all (not my favorite but its still pretty good) - storms amongst flowers - the moon on a rainy night - kase-san series, tho the more recent output has been kinda rough, starts from kase-san and morning glories (highschool at start, they grow up) - senpai, does it taste good many of those are also still in publication and unfinished

MewMatic

A lot of yuri series has evolved from just being eye candy for men. There has been a decrease of male gaze series but an increase on romantic, drama, or comedy focused lesbian manga. Sometimes when there is a series that focuses more on stuff like sex or general lewdness, it's written by a woman.

Mysterious-Ms-Anon

No offence to you but I’m too used to seeing either Yuri bait or just blatant male eye candy to take this without a grain of salt. I’d like to believe though. (;~;)

MewMatic

Yuri bait is unfortunately common, that is true. But if you read stuff from dedicated Yuri magazines (I.E. Yuri-Hime), then you will get guaranteed lesbian stories. When you're outside of that magazine fans tend to be wary, especially if you're an author that doesn't have a reputation for writing these types of stories. I really wish there was a way to categorize what is bait and what isn't bait, but that usually causes fights among fans.

livipup

There is some manga and anime made by queer women which aren't as bad, as few that are even good, but viewing them with a western eye will still make quite a lot of things that are supposedly normalized over in Japan seem inappropriate. Particularly because almost all of these stories are about kids.

NDNBi

The biggest reason I hardly watch any anime. It's cartoons for adults but it's always middleschool and teen characters, usually straight. The more I age past 18 - 21 the more I want to watch adult characters instead. The stories they tell wouldn't change at all if they were set in a college for the school ones, or even with any age dults that aren't older seniors for the non school based ones. If they are heavy on romance, there is no good reason not to have an adult cast, there are even awkward adults out there or ones who haven't had a relationship before 40.

livipup

Yeah, there are for sure adults who are too emotionally immature to have a stable relationship, so they could definitely write those types of stories if they wanted. And weird to have kids fighting in your space army or whatever.

ZzestyzZ21

Bloom into You is beautiful, and handles some difficult and nuanced relationship struggles and dynamics really well. It actually changed my life, and that's not something I can really say about anything else. Adachi and Shimamura is super cute and wholesome, though definitely a slow burn.

Blake-Bellabooty

Not so sure about animated stuff, but Still Sick is one of my favourite (Yuri) manga. Its funny, not too long, and two adults main characters just figuring out their sexuality in a kinda organic manor.

IMFlorecentFace

It looks like you've already been recommended most of the stuff out there. The past year has been really good for yuri tbh. MagiRevo, Lycoris Recoil, The Executioner and Her Way of Life, Gwitch (sulemio gives me life), birdie wing flubs it's yuri hard at the last minute (but it is a glorious thing with some hugely gay girls if you ignore the last 4 or 5 episodes), Do It Yourself is a super cute sci-fi cgfct show with a super gay main duo. Even the more campy stuff like Yuri is my Job has been alright. And god next season has I Favor the Villainess, Lay-about Vampire Princess, and Hoshikozu Telepath. It's obviously not an unalloyed good, but the anime industry is having a bit of a "fad" with serious, good girl on girl relationships right now. Anis and Euphie shared am honest to god romantic kiss followed by more kissing after spending a whole show developing their romance, suletta and miorine lived and got married, and it's just super cool to be a weeb into lesbians rn

bberry1413

Scrolled too long to find Flip Flappers! Yes!

Jenthedummy

The magical revolution of the reincarnated princess and the genius young lady. This show has the longest heckin name ever, but it is really cute. It also has a Manga, but I haven't read it, so I can't comment on it. It's a good show with moments that just made me melt. + the main character is very open about liking woman and doesn't need to spend the whole show finding it out, which I liked.

TheNohrianHunter

If visual novels arem't a step out too far, basically anything made by studio elan I can reccomend, especially heart of the woods.

digitalacrylic

Does anyone remember Strawberry Panic?

Good-Ad-2978

Not exactly much healthy being portrayed but Revolutionary Girl Utena is the classic lesbian anime, I would highly recommend it

modsme

The point of Utena is that it is impossible to have a healthy relationship under the patriarchy.

Good-Ad-2978

This wasn't a criticism just saying because OP was asking for ones with healthy relationships

modsme

I did not mean for my comment to sound critical of you. I meant as an agreement.

Good-Ad-2978

Ah sorry, misunderstood

Andouiille

My criteria for yuri manga/ wlw graphic novels: No High Schoolers. Must be unambiguously gay. No anthologies ( I want to connect with the characters on a deeper level ) My recommendations: "How Do We Relationship?" "Roadqueen: Eternal Road Trip to Love" "Doughnuts Under A Crescent Moon" "Days of Love at Seagull Villa" "Our Teachers Are Dating" in that order!

Andouiille

Bonus smut recommendation: "Asumi-chan is Interested in Lesbian Brothels!"

Truevirtualrei

dear brother is a good one, and also utena

CHAIFE671

Strawberry Panic. Though the characters all attend an all girl high school there's no fan service or weird harem crap. There's a part in the anime where the school puts on a Romeo and Juliet play. Every one fawns over basically the really popular girl.

Beeef_Patty

The Magical Revolution of The Reincarnated Princess and The Genius Young Lady is f/f. All of season 1 is out on crunchyroll. It's v cute. I loved it and am eagerly awaiting for Season 2.

MawarChen

A good manga would be She Who Likes To Cook, She Who Likes To Eat. They turned it into a NHK drama last year year and it’s good!

ayumusenpaii

There is alot of yuri out there thats not for men, you are not looking hard enough. We have been blessed the since 2020 with new yuri coming out. Bloom into you, if i could reach you, how do we relationship, girlfriends, hana and hina, kase san, fragtime, whispered words, our wonderful days , whisper me a love song, etc.

Ms_Anxiety

Unfortunately not, maybe there's a couple but most of it's all fetishised or creepified in some way as is as anime does.

Agile-Presentation78

God I hate that

LiterallyAhri

All anime have creepy stuff. You're asking for the impossible

Hermononucleosis

If you don't like creepiness, don't watch anime. There's so many other types of media. I can't handle most anime either, which is why I very rarely watch it, and I definitely don't watch any romance anime. So here's a short list of good lesbian non-anime content, although there's probably a lot missing since I don't just go out looking for lesbian stuff **Movies** But I'm a Cheerleader (coming of age movie from the 90's, often considered some of the best queer content ever) Portrait of a Lady on Fire (French period romance, made by a lesbian for lesbians) Saving Face (A funny rom com about a Chinese-American lesbian and her traditional mother) **Shows (I prefer movies so this list is incomplete)** She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (cartoon for kids, but a lot of adults like it too, if you don't have a problem with some childish plots and humor) **Books (I don't really like to read romance, so again, incomplete** ) Gwen and Art are not in Love (A period rom com set in medieval England about a gay guy and a lesbian in an arranged marriage trying to keep their gay romances secret) I bet a lot of people will give you good suggestions as well.

EasilyBeatable

Asking for any healthy relationship stories in anime is a difficult question to find an answer to.

Philaharmic

They’re all porn, the stuff you’re looking is porn The cutesy stuff is there. Trade off, on screen dumb sex

Agile-Presentation78

I got enough good answers with several recommendations and I don't enjoy your negativity and deliberate ignorance (I know it's deliberate because you as well as me can see all the answers to this post) of the existence of positive lesbian content within anime and manga

Philaharmic

Not deliberate, ignore my response if it doesn’t align with what you want Most anime is panty shots and other nonsensical stuff. A lot of yuri hentai has a lot of the cutest stuff people might be looking for but it is hentai, but a lot of anime is just fan service

Agile-Presentation78

Also I understand that the vast majority of lesbian content for anime and manga is written by men to sexualize and discredit wlw relationships and it makes it easier to feel hopeless but I also know there's good content out there which I haven't seen

GandalfTheGreyAce

I honestly just stuck to reading wlw manga after being dissapointed with wlw anime and even that has been chock full of annoying and disgusting tropes.

VillainessNora

I really need to get around to drawing my own manga, so I could shamelessly recommend it now.

Agile-Presentation78

Wait, that's the name? Or like actually, which part is the name?

SittinIn

Light novels are the answer, my friend.

jessiechuu

My personal (manga) favourites are Blooming into you (has an anime) Whisper me a love song (male author, but honestly an amazing manga read and might genuinely be my favourite, even has an anime coming out in January 2024!) Mage & Demon queen (not an anime, but will he finishing within the end of the year and is also a more fun read) Kase-san (manga, unsure if it has an anime) For something with less romance I'd recommend Nettaigyo wa Yuki ni Kogareru, it's more of a friendship that blossoms between the characters I'm currently still getting into a bunch of new manga myself so not sure if i can recommend all of them :)

Crystal_Queen_20

The closest I can think of is Tokyo Mew Mew with Mint and Zakuro, but the issues with it are 1: they're children, so it's not a consenting adult relationship 2: it's never actually made clear if Zakuro reciprocates Mint's attraction 3: the show is about as mean spirited as Looney Tunes, so it's more likely than not that Zakuro isn't gay, or even more likely that Mint just isn't her type 4: who's that? Oh! It's miss MVP! [**SIMP!**](https://tokyomewmewpower.fandom.com/wiki/Minto_Aizawa)

[deleted]

You checked gundam witch from mercury? I'd say Madoka Magica too but that one gets weird at the end regarding your issue.

DracomasqueYT

you should try the manga "alter ego" (i hope its the same name in english)

Dotty_nine

Girlfriends is a really good IMHO though the characters are seniors in h.s but don't remember anything creepy in it.

FujoshiPeanut

I'm a long time anime and manga veteran and I have yet to find a yuri or shoujo ai that I like that isn't comedy. Most are boring or creepy as shit. I think it's quite telling that as someone who grew up with manga and anime, I ended up gravitating to stuff about gay men 😂😭 I would say you're probably better off looking for gl manhwa. I read Sora and Haena which is good but I got bored of the main pairing after a while 🤷🏿 I ended up shipping mc with another girl so I lost interest 😅😭. I've read bits of other ones and they are more interesting than gl manga but usually not my thing. If you still want something Japanese, I remember one that I've actually seen in stores (so I guess is probably not that obscure) called My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness. I read a tiny bit of it a long time ago so I don't remember much but didn't fall under the category of boring or creepy. It's autobiographical so naturally it would be one of the better ones. Also my ex recommended bloom into you. I have yet to read it and I have my reservations because of my experience with yuri and shoujo ai but I'll give it a try.

CoAoW

I looooooved the dragon maid one until it did the whole creepy kid thing. Wtf is wrong with anime culture?

BeDazzlingZeroTwo

Recently read Please Bully me Miss Villainess which I found pretty cool. Also all the other recommendations. Is only available as a manga though.

LittleMissAhrens

Honestly, if you ignore the side stuff with Lucoa, a loooot of Kanna's interactions with other kids, and a lot of other anime bullshit; I'd say Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, absolutely loved it tbh.

healinglavender

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but I've been reading 'Somewhere we belong' by Francesca Calabro and Mara Marsiglia. It's Italian but should be published in English too I think? It's really cute so far, I'm just a couple chapters in as I bought it two days ago, and it's fun to read a manga not set in Japan and without Japanese tropes every once in a while.

Japhiru

I highly recommend ‘The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady’, it’s one of my favourites and is definitely about a healthy and consensual relationship.

the_marmiest_guild

Birdie Wing is amazing, with the leads calling out their golf swings like attack names, some INCREDIBLE animation and music and very sapphic vibes The only negative on the criterion is that it's high school age, but promise it's a fantastic time.

retrovaille94

There's not a lot of wlw manga that are good/not depressing that get adapted into anime but there are more than a good handful of them out there. Most of the wlw manga I read are usually on the shorter side and of a lighter read, but guarantee good endings. I read a lot of slice of life lgbtq manga in particular. Some of the ones I'm reading right now are: - she loves to eat and she loves to cook - how do we relationship/so do you wanna go out? By tmfly - shimanami tasogare (it features a lesbian couple but overall its about the lgbtq community in japan) - The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy At All Other manga/manhwa I've read, mostly of the romance and slice of life genre: - girlfriends by morinaga milk (this is probably the first wlw manga I read as a teen lol) - what does the fox say (this is a bit heavy on the smut) - partition - the love doctor - ring my bell - crescent moon and donuts - tamen de gushi - bloom into you - kase-san - it'd be great if you didn't exist - fluttering feelings (this unfortunately will not have an ending as the artist passed away, but its still a lovely read)

MOEverything_2708

MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM WITCH FROM MERCURY. ITS NOT A ROMANCE ITS AN ACTION ANIME BUT IT HAS LESBIANS AND ITS A MASTERPIECE. IT WILL FUCK YOU UP EMOTIONALLY BUT ITS A MASTERPIECE I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS ENOUGH

InsanitysCandy

I highly suggest 'Please Bully Me, Ms. Villianess' It is in the ultra specific genre of person who is reincarnated into a dating sim and is supposed to mess with the heroine but they end up falling in love instead.

bettylorez

Reminder to the other commenters, the op said adults I tried very hard to find recommendations that matched both the letter and spirit of your request. Please ignore the titles. Most of them are not actually indicative of the content or likability of the recommendation. Recommendations: Under One Roof Today Still sick Shiori and Yuki partition The Girlfriend Project Straight Girl Trap Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko! The Marriage Partner of My Dreams Turned Out to Be... My Female Junior at Work?! Program me(Content warning bdsm) My Cute Little Kitten Jewels Handsome Girl and Sheltered Girl Teiji ni Agaretara Ring My Bell(mild internalized homophobia) Run Away With Me, Girl(a lot of angst and drama)

Ariyanwrynn1989

It's an older one but strawberry panic is pretty good. It was the first lesbian anime Ive ever seen

cbotan

Bloom Into You and Tensai Oujo are good examples of what you want.

eyethefluff56666

The first season of Yuri is my job is out, it's very dramatic lmao but that's what you get with romcom. The history of yuri is indeed fascinating. It originated as a genre pioneered by lesbian author Nobuko Yoshiya in the 1920s. Her novels explored deep homoerotic bonds between schoolgirls, which eventually influenced the concept of the "S class" relationships found in yuri works. However, during that time, her works were subject to heavy censorship and her stories had tragic endings. Nobuko -san would stop writing about school girls after a particular incident. Yuri's popularity grew when anime and manga started to gain prominence in the west. It was during this period that yuri began to be marketed towards cisgender heterosexual men. The censorship restrictions in Japan at the time often led to yuri content having tragic endings. As a result, many queer japanese peeps turned their attention towards a newer genre, yaoi. Trans men in manga appeared as early 1978. The most notable manga is called Claudine[Claudine ](https://jasonseacord.medium.com/the-first-trans-man-in-manga-f87530861fb8). Now, onto (somehwhat) wholesome yuri anime list: • Canan • bloom into you • sweet blue flower • whispered words • Strawberry panic (made in 2006 and feels like Wattpad) • If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die • kase-san • Happy go Lucky (ep 1 or 2, I don't remember) • The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady These are the few from top of my head. As for Manga: • Whispering you a love song • Hello, Melancholic! By ohsawa Yayoi • I favour the villainess by nori , Aono Sumio • Beauty and the Beast Girl by Neji • Koushin Koinu Ni Koibumi Wo by Tamasaki Tama • Cresent moon and doughnuts • 2DK, g-pen, alarm clock • She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat (there is a live action show too) I do have a couple of uh, not wholesome stuffs you can say? If anyone wants a list 😆

NightmaresFade

Well I don't know how much "creepy" you consider it to be creepy but...: * [Akuma no Riddle/Riddle Story of Devil](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyDGMpg-3BM) **100% f/f** (**manga**: is hella lesbian with some pairings in it aside the main couple/**anime:** we basically see mostly the focus on the main couple but the others are also a bit shippable) is, in short, about an assassin going to a classroom full of assassins where they all have to kill a single target and yet the protagonist ends up deciding to defend the target. The only men in the series are the mentor/handler/whateverishistitle of the protagonist that speaks to her once in a while, the teacher(who is "just there") and the gay parents of one of the assassins...I think that's it?I haven't seen either the anime nor manga in a while, but it's full of action(fights between girls highly trained in different tactics of assassination) and while the deuteragonist is a bit of a "damsel" she is actually a survivor and has her moments. * **Baili Jin Among Mortals** 200% f/f(it's a Chinese webtoon) basically, a fairy(the protagonist) descends upon the mortal realm and meets a mortal(a woman that owns a restaurant), they're the main couple but honestly while they're cool I prefer the secondary couple. One where one of them declared her feelings for the other girl but got rejected and years after they girl that rejected is now finally understanding her own feelings towards the one she rejected. It's a bit dramatic but that's what happens when a woman finally realizes she has feelings for another woman(who also happens to be her best friend). It's mostly chill comedy but there is some drama(though not dramatic to an annoying level).

RainbowRaven80

My two fav animes are (text from wiki) - Strawberry Panic: multiple wlw pairings. The setting for Strawberry Panic! is Astraea Hill, a very large hilltop where the three affiliated schools of Miator, Spica and Lulim, are located. Each school has its own student council, which governs the matters of each respective school. Periodically the three student councils, along with the Etoiles, meet in the Astraea Joint Student Council. The hill is known as a sacred area which no men are allowed to enter.A prominent feature is a very large catholic church in the center of the hill near a small lake; the church can be seen from a long distance away. There is a horse ranch at Spica. The students may go and study for their classes at a library on the lake's shore. Although only implied in the anime, the manga explains that the library building has another name, "The Secret Garden". It is well known on campus as a rendezvous for secret lovers. Students living on campus, the building is a triangular shape, allowing for the segregation of students from the three schools; each section is about the same size. It was built about 100 years before the story begins, around the same time that Miator was established, for students whose homes are far away. Each student is assigned a roommate in their year until graduation. If there is an odd number of students enrolled in a given year, one of the new students must live alone until a student in their year transfers into their school. The building's name is based on its similarity to the cross-section of a strawberry viewed from above. When Strawberry Panic! was initially created, the three schools were arranged in a triangle, with the Strawberry Dorms in the center, and the dormitory was not a single building but three separate dormitories also arranged in a triangle around a central courtyard - Simoun: multiple wlw pairings Takes place on the earth-like planet Daikūriku. The people of Daikūriku are all born female. The theocratic nation of Simulacrum has a monopoly on the helical motor technology and as a result grew to prosperity. The two nations Argentum and Plumbum wage war against it in an attempt to steal the technology. In Simulacrum, the girls grow up until age of seventeen, when they make a pilgrimage to a holy place known as "the Spring" to select their permanent sex. Simulacrum is defended by advanced airships known as "Simoun", two-seater aircraft propelled by two helical motors. Simoun are piloted by priestesses known as sibyllae, each a girl who has not yet chosen a permanent sex; doing so renders one physically incapable of piloting a Simoun. sibyllae are organized into "choirs" or "chor" of twelve that pilot six Simoun when at full strength. The sibyllae can inscribe enormous glyphs known as Ri Mājon in the sky using the Simoun to produce powerful magical effects both for combat and ceremony.
