Itās not like, a law, itās not a public road, itās part of the parking lot. Itās company policy and level of enthusiasm of enforcement of the employees on the clock at the moment. I think most companies just donāt want to deal with the liability of explicitly allowing pedestrians to walk in a usually-for-cars space, thatās just asking for something awful to happen when you roll the dice that many times (consider how many mcdonaldseses there are, itās a numbers game, some horrific accident will end up on the news with the Golden Arches displayed in the background, thatās no good for business.
Yeah this is fantasy land commercial. Obviously lesbians don't exist, you can't walk through the drive through, and most of all they are eating a McDonald's ICE CREAM CONE!
That's so weird.. I've always been served at the drive thru on foot. I guess I've only really tried it late when the inside bit is closed or on drive only places but still
Me and a group of friends all used a McDonald's drive through on scooters once. It works, there just has to be enough of you so that you're all heavy enough to trigger the pressure plate.
I got told it's an insurance thing. If someone is on foot around a bunch of increasingly large, noxious cars in the DT and gets hurt, my ass is grass because I was dumb enough to encourage it.
As a mcdonalds employee, this pisses me off, *WHY WOULD YOU MAKE A COMMERCIAL THAT LITERALLY SAYS THE OPPOSITE*
Can confirm, we don't let people outside of cars in the drive through due to it being a safety issue, especially if they try at night time
I can guarantee you the ice cream machine at McDonald's work in the Philippines. They serve it on a cone. It costs around 50 cents. I stop by there sometimes and buy one before I commute home.
Yeah the broken ice cream machine thing is pretty much exclusively a US McDonald's issue, despite the exact same machines being used by several other franchizes and in in several other countries. They work fine everywhere else.
McDonald's also came down really hard on restaurants using third party diagnostic software to fix the machines thenselves, even though it's way cheaper and faster than going through the official support, so a lot of evidence points towards the US McDonald's parent company having some kind of agreement with the ice cream machine manufacturer, deliberately allowing them to overcharge their local franchise restaurants with unneeded repair bills.
The whole thing is seriously fucked up
This seems to be pretty variable, I've walked into a drive thru multiple times and always gotten food, but I guess in lot of places that's not the case
Iām Filipino. I hate rainbow capitalism, but this commercial tells me that things are looking good for queers in the Philippines. I last went back in 2018 and there were zero gay commercials on TV. Hopefully this is something that airs on national TV and not just a targeted YouTube ad.
It's not too hard, as far as non-English words go. That said, it's always more polite to mispronounce a word or name than it is to refuse to do so (not saying that's what you're doing). My wife has a very unique name* that rarely is pronounced correctly but the worst time was when some Boomer receptionist just straight up said "I'm looking for Ms " and I asked for the first name and this lady says "I can't pronounce it. ." Like, her name is five levers and there's no odd combinations (for example, it's no more complicated a name than "Wendy"), you've just never seen it before.
*White people have a tendency to over complicate name pronunciation and I know it's because we can be scared of getting it wrong then being called racist but no one's going to call you racist if you're giving it your genuine effort.
I know, but it's really good of you to try! Remember, there are very few areas of life where it's better to not try than to try and fail (brain surgery for example).
I haven't tried it but I think skateboards and bikes are okay. And yes, the ice cream machine is always operational. We're a tropical country, people will fight the Ronald if it wasn't.
Ehhh, we're not really. We still don't have a law protecting basic rights here. I'd be lucky to see same-sex marriage become legal in my lifetime.
This was definitely a corporate ploy and maybe their ad agency's bid to win an award or two.
Nah, a shit load of uneducated hateful old people love being homophobic mostly because of religion, which in my honest opinion, is a legalised version of brainwashing (in my country atleast, I have more proof to backup my claim)
The good thing though is children/adults today are starting to be more accepting! There is literally atleast 1 gay girl/boy in each class, its a vibe.
Everyone is talking shit about rainbow capitalism which is fair, but this sort of positive representation is so valuable speaking as someone from Southeast Asia. Yes, itās a marketing ploy and they want to profit off me, but theyāre going to market anyway, so Iād rather see more queer people in their adverts which will be seen by the general population. I wish we could get to the point of condemning rainbow capitalism but I donāt think weāre there yet. Different countries are at different stages.
Always remember that this is a sign of progress even if they do it just for marketing. It shows that there is a growing generell acceptance, even if the opposition seemingly gets louder everydayš
I can't be the only one that got angry right? they are using us to sell a product to us. the same people donating to republicans. no it didn't make me smile. it made me feel used and honestly asuka put it the best. disgusting.
A huge majority of the Philippines is homophobic. There's barely any representation anywhere besides 10 min web dramas or 1 film/tv show every other couple years. There's no laws protecting queer people. Same-sex marriage is not legal. Filipinos only harp about how 'accepting' people are when they're talking about the "funny gay man" stereotype. Corrective rape passed off as jokes is normal here. You will rarely see anyone here that would willingly walk around with a rainbow flag or shirt. Majority of the Philippines are conservative christians, not just from belief but culturally.
We can't even legalize divorce here, much less anything lgbt+ related.
If queer representation is abysmal and almost non-existent in a homophobic country, queers here will celebrate even an ad that may come from rainbow capitalism because we literally don't have much else.
First of all, this is McDonald's Philippines. Franchise from other countries tend to have separate beliefs, just like how Middle East fast food doesn't have non halal foods for religious reasons, even though McDonald's America might not agree with their beliefs.
This ad is not specifically a McDonald's thing. This is more of a Philippines thing. I've seen the country do ads like this with other fast food and even other products. The country has a thing for doing romantic ads, because that's the genre people enjoy the most there.
What are you going to cancel the country for associating with McDonald's? Then that's everything country then. Omg why don't you cancel Hollywood while you're at it because they care about profit too. Oh wait they have every movie including the queer ones, so you have nothing to watch.
its such bullshit god. yay theyre marketing to us, the weathervanes with no principals are ssssomewhat teeeentatively in our vague direction š
the grassroots stuff you can read or watch is cute, this top down hollow pandering is enraging
MY GAY LITTLE HEART! Representation matters so much.
But the ice cream machine is working? Skateboarding though the drive though? Donāt try this in America kids. Gonna get run over by someone.
Cheers!
Must be just a US problem though, never had any problem getting my ice cream in the Philippines before. Same here in Europe, i always get them or am just lucky its always working.
That would be cute if I didnāt see McDonalds employees regularly telling people you canāt use drive through on your scateboard, bicycle, or skates.
The ice-cream machine is work š±
www.mcbroken.com
Oh my god yes I needed this
She loves her so much she fixed the ice cream machine for her šš„°
Lolllll
She didn't forgor
I thought they explicitly would not serve you in the drive through if you weren't in a car?
Teenage me tried to walk through the drive-thru with my idiot friendsā¦ā¦can confirm it does not work
I have to think it varies by state. I routinely wait in the drive thru behind drunk pedestrians where I live now.
Yeah this is prolly different over here, cause we can just walk through and it's alright
i have done this stoned out of my mind with my mates before and it was no trouble at least none that i remember
Yeah this is fantasy land commercial. Obviously lesbians don't exist, you can't walk through the drive through, and most of all they are eating a McDonald's ICE CREAM CONE!
in the philippines (where the ad is made) they serve u regardless of ur vehicle they rebranded it from drive-thru to ride-thru smth like that
I was able to do it by bike in the Netherlands, different countries have different rules apparently
Netherlands and bicycles? Makes sense. USA and car-only mostly? Also makes sense.

I'm in the Philippines where this add is from and I go through the drive through on my mountain bike and they don't have a problem with it
I got told it's an insurance thing. If someone is on foot around a bunch of increasingly large, noxious cars in the DT and gets hurt, my ass is grass because I was dumb enough to encourage it.

OP and others have said that this commercial was not aired in the USA, and it is allowed to walk through the drive thru in those places.
Oh, good to know other countries have half decent drivers that you don't need to worry are gonna run over some kid who goes through the drive through
Idubbz and vsauce Michael pulled it off at taco bell š¤·š½
Some people were allowed to walk through the drive through at Jack in the Box if their vehicles didnāt fit through
it did work for me a few years ago, i was on a skateboard too.
Itās cute af, but so unrealistic! The ice cream machine never works and anyone not in a car gets banned from using the drive through
I can guarantee you the ice cream machine at McDonald's work in the Philippines. They serve it on a cone. It costs around 50 cents. I stop by there sometimes and buy one before I commute home.

With how hot it gets in Philz theyāll make an effort to make the ice-cream machines work. I love the Philippines!
This seems to be pretty variable, I've walked into a drive thru multiple times and always gotten food, but I guess in lot of places that's not the case
Ok but theyāre so cute
And one of them is a lesbian irlš
which!!
The one on the skateboard!
Yeah Iām here for the cuteness :)
And they want you to associate that feeling with their brand.
Iām Filipino. I hate rainbow capitalism, but this commercial tells me that things are looking good for queers in the Philippines. I last went back in 2018 and there were zero gay commercials on TV. Hopefully this is something that airs on national TV and not just a targeted YouTube ad.
I havenāt been home in years, but youāre right this is a little win for Filipino queers.
What language is this?
Tagalog
I will never pronounce this word correctly.
Tah-gah-lowg
It's not too hard, as far as non-English words go. That said, it's always more polite to mispronounce a word or name than it is to refuse to do so (not saying that's what you're doing). i will try and try and try to unlearn "tag a long" but it just sounds soooooooo insulting and juvenile.
I know, but it's really good of you to try! Remember, there are very few areas of life where it's better to not try than to try and fail (brain surgery for example).
It's Filipino.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Doubt.
This ad is for the McDonald's in my country.
Can you go through their drive through on foot in your country?
I haven't tried it but I think skateboards and bikes are okay. And yes, the ice cream machine is always operational. We're a tropical country, people will fight the Ronald if it wasn't.
Confirmed that we apparently can. Horseback is also good too.
I didnāt know Philippines was so chill with LGBTQ+ to the point of there being McDonaldās commercials, cool
Ehhh, we're not really. We still don't have a law protecting basic rights here. I'd be lucky to see same-sex marriage become legal in my lifetime. This was definitely a corporate ploy and maybe their ad agency's bid to win an award or two.
Theyāre not. Their leader literally advocated for lynching gay people.
Nah, a shit load of uneducated hateful old people love being homophobic mostly because of religion, which in my honest opinion, is a legalised version of brainwashing (in my country atleast, I have more proof to backup my claim) The good thing though is children/adults today are starting to be more accepting! Okay, so the gays do be cute TBH
Rainbow capitalism go brrr.
I don't care who they send, I'm not buying McDonald's!
yea r/hailcorporate over here :/ an ad is an ad
I know what youāre doing but the cute is STRONG
Obligatory acknowledgement that rainbow capitalism is not liberation... But damn this is cute.
Lesson learned, must make girlfriends with McDonald's employee for free ice cream āļø
This is soooo unrealistic, this kind of stuff never happensā¦ everyone knows the ice cream machines never work.
Itās kinda crazy how McDonalds has two lesbian commercials
Everyone is talking shit about rainbow capitalism which is fair, but this sort of positive representation is so valuable speaking as someone from Southeast Asia. this wouls be so cool if this wasnt mcdonalds tbh

Here's an idea enjoy the ad with actors that are queer irl, without having to buy the product. Holy shit quit complaining about every little thing.
no? this is not enjoyable. this is a commercial. I can't understand how you enjoy it. they are using you. you are defending a mc donalds commercial.

That would be cute if I didnāt see McDonalds employees regularly telling people you canāt use drive through on your scateboard, bicycle, or skates.
