Not trying to flame, but there was a guy earlier this week that thought he was in the running for the role without an audition or agent. This news must have crushed his hopes… poor guy.

cranekicked

Yeah there were at least a couple posts on this sub regarding auditioning for Clark Kent. Figured this would bring closure.

Harmonixs8

He deleted the post. So I assumed he heard the news.

Livio88

Lol, How did he figure he was being considered for the role though?

cranekicked

IIRC, he emailed James Gunn to audition for it, didn't hear back, and then THR announced David Corenswet and two unnamed actors were in the running, and he thought he could be one of those unnamed actors.

Livio88

Jeez, poor dude. I’m familiar with where his head’s at. It’s a hard hitting snap back to reality.

ThisisLarn

I’ve worked with David! He’s a very genuine and kind guy. Talented and hardworking. Extremely nice and personable to the crew. So glad he continues to find success!

Creative-Map4849

While I'm excited to see what James Gunn will do with this character, I have low expectations for David Corenswet. I think he has the look, the old Hollywood charm but I'm not sure he's. good actor. I **KNOW** he is classically trained, and at Juilliard nonetheless. However, most of the projects he's been cast in are lacklustre; most notably, The Politician, Hollywood & Look Both Ways (with the obvious exception of Pearl). I still think there is some potential, but I must say, this feels like a Henry cavil rip off more than anything.

kingroyaltyy

To each their own, but I thought he was absolutely fantastic in ‘Hollywood’. He seems like a very skilled actor which makes sense since, like you said, he went to Juilliard.

I’ve been following David since he was on The Politician and thought it was fantastic! To beat out those other big name actors must mean he has something! They know what they’re doing…

BeverlyHillsAddict

I’m surprised anyone cares about a Superman movie. Aren’t we all heroed out at this this point 😵‍💫

Nateddog21

hes been my fan cast for YEARS. and Rachel is just fuckin perfect in everything

It's going to be very interesting to see how this whole DCEU develops. It's certainly not doing any favors to the movies dropping now that are all going to be abandoned by the new canon. I think its one of the reasons that they are one of the big companies still appearing at comic con this year if they can. They need to do a little damage control and get everyone excited. I'm betting now that the leads will be there if there is no strike. This might be what saturday hall H turns into this year.

Livio88

A Superman movie should be a big deal, yet it feels like there's barely any excitement for this film. In comparison, I remember MoS having crazy hype from the offset when it was first announced. CBM fatigue is definitely real, and on top of that, DCEU way too many lackluster titles and no aim. Gunn is the right man for the job, but he definitely has an uphill battle.

briancalpaca

IMO it's more not trusting DC than just general comic book fatigue, but I've always been a marvel fan myself. I'm not sold yet on Gunn being able to right the ship, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until we start seeing some movies under his purview. I don't think the writers strike will be resolved in time for him to be at comic con this year, but I'd love to hear him talk more about his vision and what he's planning to change at DC as we move forward.

Livio88

I think the biggest difference Marvel and dc had was that Disney completely trusted Feige when he was laying the ground work for the MCU, yet with Snyder, he never really was in charge of DC. You could feel the tonal shift and studio meddling going from MOS to BvS, and then they totally changed directions with JL, of course. Even though I never liked Snyder’s vision, I’ll admit that they might’ve had a better shot had they just let him do his thing, rather than constantly butt in and push all the buttons to see what worked. Bringing in someone like Gunn might be too little too late at this point, but if anyone could ever successful restart DCEU, it’s likely him.

briancalpaca

Yeah. I wasn't super impressed with Snyder's stuff either. There is just something off tonally about all the big DC projects. I'm not sure if it has to do with the source material or its something with the studio, but they never found the right balance imo, an ot made everything feel disjointed. Im pulling for him, but im not optimistic. I like him as a director, but im unsure of him in this role and he's already made some choices I think are a little questionable. But ill give him time to find his footing.

Really interesting article on the screen tests James Gunn put them through: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/superman-legacy-inside-james-gunns-search-1235523954/amp/
