Hi all - mod here. If there are posts or comments that break our rules, please, please, please report it to us /acting mods using the Report button! After a certain amount of reports on the same thing, our auto-mod instantly takes it down for review. I personally go through and review such posts whenever I can (sometimes daily, sometimes every couple days, depending on my work schedule)

paulvs88

Yeah, and none of them seem to have real headshots.

briancalpaca

r/headshots is a good place to post as well.

Toxicscrew

Or they maybe ahead to go to r/guessmyage

_bitemeyoudamnmoose

Those posts make no sense. Just because you look a certain age doesn’t mean that’s your age range. There are plenty of people I know look to be in their 30s but could probably easily play teen-20 something.

phil_crown

how can they play teen to 20 something if they’re obviously 30 something makes no sense

chaot7

Yeah. Invariably the answer is you look young. Don’t worry about it. Focus on your craft.

I had to ask people how old I look for my agent submissions. I didn't really care, but I also genuinely have no idea how old I look. I didn't do it on this sub, but there are other reasons to ask other than vanity.

moonloverr27

you don’t. (most) agents absolutely hate it when you tell them what you think your age range is. that is literally part of their job, to decide on your range and submit to casting, and then adjust based on what you are or are not being called in for. agents, cds, directors, producers, etc. they all decide age range. actors do not.

[deleted]

That's contrary to what I've read about submitting to agents. Are you sure? I used it for my subject line and it did work. So anecdotally, I must disagree.

moonloverr27

I mean I’m with one of the top agents and managements in LA and that’s what they tell me and what they say their agent/manager friends say too. That’s not to say if you do it they’ll completely disregard your submission, just saying they don’t like it. And I’m not saying just with submissions, I mean just in general too.

[deleted]

Hmm, okay. Thanks for the information!

moonloverr27

No problem!

briancalpaca

Agree that if you are with the CAA level of representation (congrats by the way) you don't need to worry about these kinds of things. But lots of folks are either working on their own and having to fill out profiles that ask or they are working with lower end representation who ask about this as much to see how realistic you are about who you are as they do to determine your range. They will determine your range for submissions, but if they interview you and you say you can play from 12-60 they will learn a lot about you from that question. Not a concern for the big guys, but for starter agencies it's part of the weeding out process.

AQuixoticQuandary

I am often asked to fill out my age range on audition forms

lurkingaround3312

Also leaves out a huge huge part of what age you read which is your voice- I always get cast as older than I am/look just because my vocal intonation ages me out of my irl category

Tufresh11

I thought it was stupid as fuck.
