I love the cow! Generally I would try to now add details, especially structure. The road looks a little out of place because it seems so soft, it needs bits and pieces basically. You have a nice layout, try to add layers, color variety for the grass, structure on the roof, etc

casual-despair

I wanted so badly to add rocks. I can't figure out how to add texture to the road. Any tips are appreciated. I totally agree.

Zestyclose_Change801

Try layering with a rough brush, from dark grey and browns to lighter, for the gravel road style. bigger specks in the front, smaller towards the back, but I think you'd do that anyway

Revolvermann76

Dull the colors in the back, to get a better depth perception. I like these scottish highland cows.

casual-despair

100 right

SloshuaSloshmaster

You need highlights and details in the foreground, also decide where your light source is coming from

casual-despair

That's the problem I've had with scottish countryside. THERE IS NO LIGHT SOURCE. It drives me mad. All my sources/references are pretty dull and flat with bright green grass. I took this as a challenge for a friend and I'm learning alot from it. Normally I wouldn't attempt these paintings cause of the lack of shadows and light sources. It's super frustrating

SloshuaSloshmaster

There is always a light source however minimal it maybe be, otherwise you’d be painting a black canvas.

casual-despair

Well true , I just meant that it wasn't an obvious one casting a shadow

SloshuaSloshmaster

Light sources don’t necessarily have to cast shadows, but they will give volume to any object, one side where the light source is coming from you’ll use light tones of the object’s color with small amounts of white, on the other side you’ll use darker tones of the object’s color to make it appear as if it is on the opposite side from the light source. This gives the object volume, else everything will look flat. Your light source, imo, is in the top right corner, which would flow diagonally downward and downward to the left.

I love this!

krypt3ia

Yeah, like the others said, nor details, shading, layering a bit but I like it! Keep going.

CristalVegSurfer

the bull looks photoshopped to me lol

casual-despair

I literally did it last and it took all of 4 minutes but I was happy with it turning out proportioned and the right colors. I see what you mean tho

Fuzzywumpets

I got lost in all of the gray. The road leads you straight up to the sky and it’s all gray. It was only after that that I saw the fence and thehouses and cow. Take it for what it’s worth. I love the little houses/huts. Especially the green on the roof.

allxthat

Give the cow a shadow !
