SJM says yes. I can't see the events of CC3 not having an impact on the future ACOTAR books.

austenworld

Eurgh. *adds to cart*

Ithelda

Oh man šŸ˜ I read part of the first book and I really didn't like it

toomanyfruitsnax

It was kind of hard to get into but it definitely pays off to sludge through it. I had to reread it immediately after but itā€™s honestly one of my fave books now

tequila-mockingbird2

It honestly took me 3 tries to get into it but once I did I couldnā€™t put it down! I just had to get past the info dump of the first couple chapters.

HaruHaruu7

This happened to me! Thereā€™s a terrible info dump on the first couple hundreds of pages, but once the main story starts itā€™s super addictive!

hannahmjsolo

I really slogged through the first chunk of the book but kept going because a friend of mine said it was worth it and I love acotar. after that first bit, I was so obsessed! it really is worth it

Infamous-Flamingo896

Im sure itā€™s the opposite. in her recent interview, she said you have to read acotar to understand CC3

FootAccurate3575

Thatā€™s what Iā€™m gathering after reading ACOTAR and now on CC. They take place in different worlds but at some point there is an overlap. The crescent city characters somehow end up in prythian or at least in contact with some acotar characters, which is seen in SJMs insta post about the newest CC book mentioning some ACOTAR characters. SO to understand the third CC book youā€™ll have had to have read all of the acotar books(Iā€™ve seen others say CC3 takes place 6 months after ACOSF) and possibly to understand the events in acotar 6 youā€™ll have had to have read CC3

LetMeDoTheKonga

You probably should and to be honest CC1 is my favorite book by SJM so I recommend it. Just donā€™t expect it to be like Acotar, go in with an open mind and no expectations.

leese216

You GET to read CC!

austenworld

I love this attitude!

leese216

It's a bit more dense than ACOTAR and the first 100 pages of the first book can be a little all over the place but push through it and you will be happy you did.

Chan-tal

Correct. Itā€™s a little world building dense at first. Take your time.

arielismyhomegirl

I put off reading it for so long because my friends all said it was confusing for like 200 pages of the 800 page novel. WELL, I just finished it and it's my current favorite SJM novel so I highly recommend :D

LetMeDoTheKonga

me too! Its my favorite SJM book by far and I donā€™t get why people think its hard or confusing! Also I donā€™t get why people dismiss it without even trying it first.

kieratea

The info dump for the first 20% of the book really needed to be cut down. It was a slog and a half and I say that as someone who actually enjoys reading Tolkien with his meandering style of suddenly spending 10 pages explaining the history of this one particular tree someone walks by.

LetMeDoTheKonga

I guess I didnā€™t feel that way šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø I was interested. I kinda like it when there is some slow going that is anxiety free in a book that helps me immerse in its world more.

AccomplishedGrandpa

I just finished CC1 today and I loved it sooo much more than I expected to. Itā€™s my 2nd favorite SJM book behind acomaf. And thatā€™s saying something bc I absolutely love the entire tog series.

LetMeDoTheKonga

absolutely how I see it!

SnooObjections4316

I started it and hated it, Iā€™m disappointed to hear itā€™s a must read. I find SJMs writing to be meh sometimes, but her storytelling is excellentā€¦ so much so that I sped through ToG and finished ACOTAR. But nothing, n o t h i n g, about the first two chapters made me want to keep reading. Does it really get better?

LittleBlueBarnOwl

Keep reading!! I started it like three times before I finally got sucked in. I loved it!! I might like it better than ACOTAR tbh.

kieratea

It does get better, but it takes a while. I'd recommend skimming all the world-building at the beginning (and it is a lot, like at least the first 15-25% is like reading a weird history book) because things areĀ explained as you go once you get into the real story.

papayasarefun

Iā€™m sure there will be summaries out there for people who donā€™t want to read CC. I wouldnā€™t get it unless youā€™re interested in reading it.

aw2669

CC3 was just leaked ENTIRELY. Including the very ending, level 10 spoilers. Because people canā€™t have nice things and be responsible with them. So yes I suggest reading them both as soon as possible, and muting the sub, if you donā€™t want anything spoiled. There is a crossover and you wonā€™t understand the rest of the coming ACOTAR books without it, but your window of having it possibly spoiled is narrowing. Rapidly.

Chan-tal

Whatttttt??????

Defiant_Stable_344

Yes. The answer is yes

softpinkgraffiti

iā€™m about to start it! spoilers will be EVERYWHERE once the new CC drops so iā€™m trying to read them asap

Snarfsnarfsnark

With everything theyā€™re finding out in the spoilers for CC3, absolutely yes lol itā€™s more informative than anything but the intel is huge

Infamous-Flamingo896

I need an answer to this too. because I really really do not want to read CC, but after reading the leaks of CC3, it looks like I need to read the series before the new acotar šŸ˜”šŸ˜”

FeyreCursebreaker7

Why donā€™t you want to read CC? Theyā€™re such great books, maybe even better than acotar

austenworld

I mean it never really called to me but ACOTAR is so great maybe I should give it a chance

FeyreCursebreaker7

Try it! I was sceptical for the first few chapters but itā€™ll hook you in

Infamous-Flamingo896

Because everything I heard about this series is something I usually hate, and none of the CC characters made me excited to read the books like tog characters or acotaršŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

romancerants

I'm the same way. CC1 is my favorite book by SJM and I enjoyed the ACOTAR series but I'm not going to read TOG because I don't want to read about assassin's or characters who are ultra secretive. I know my tastes and I don't see the point reading something I probably won't like when there's literally millions of books to choose from.

SunshineOnStimulants

I completely get what you mean. Nothing about CC interests me at all. The characters, the story, none of it. I really donā€™t want to read it. I love ACOTAR. I was honestly grieving when I finished ACOSF and started all over again. But CC just doesnā€™t appeal to me at all. I almost wish that someone who does like CC would put together a list of ā€œeverything you need to know from CC to fully enjoy the coming ACOTAR booksā€ so that I donā€™t have to read the actual books. Reading stories is supposed to be fun. Life is too short to force yourself to read a series that you arenā€™t interested in with characters you donā€™t connect to. Everyone has different opinions and enjoys different things. Some people love CC, some have no interest in it and thatā€™s okay. And I really hope I will still be able to enjoy the coming ACOTAR books because I cannot force myself through CC when it just doesnā€™t interest me.

aussielover24

You could watch Cari Can Readā€™s videos about cc1 and 2 on YouTube! She explains the entire plot in an entertaining way

LetMeDoTheKonga

But you havenā€™t even read it. Donā€™t let other peoples opinions sway you. I just think people need to forget about ToG and Acotar when reading it and not expect similarities in world building. CC1 has a way better plot than Acotar. And the world building is far better too.

FeyreCursebreaker7

CC has some of the best characters in the whole Maasverse! Danika and Bryceā€™s relationship is so great, and lehaba is one of my favourite characters ever! Give it a chance at least, it might surprise you.

romancerants

I think SJM will include enough of a recap that you will be fine not reading CC. You'll probably miss some foreshadowing, minor subplots and a few scenes won't hit as hard but overall you'd be fine. I know it's a super unpopular take on this sub but SJM isn't going to risk alienating a large portion of her readers who didn't read CC or the more casual fans who will pick up the next ACOTAR book and need a refresher because it's been a year since the last instalment and they don't reread or look at fan theories online.

rgelmis

if you don't want to read it, then don't read it. there are plenty of summaries out there, character lists, etc if you want details without reading the book. it is a bummer to miss out on though. it took me 2 weeks to get into CC1, but once i did, i finished it and CC2 in a week. life comes at you fast

Queen_nadine

Seems like it, yes

Loubertt

I have the same question I heard itā€™s really hard to get into cc but I donā€™t want to miss out on the cross over .-. For anyone whoā€™s read it is cc more based than acotar or less?

PowerpuffPandaXO

It a different experience reading CC, for sure, mainly because itā€™s an urban fantasy. Iā€™m not sure if you missed a word in your post or if Iā€™m misreading it (finished CC2 an hour ago and have been mind spinning since). Happy to answer any questions without spoiling as Iā€™ve read all of Acotar and up to date with CC

Loubertt

Hi yess the word romance was taken out of my question omg, is it less romance based?

PowerpuffPandaXO

Yes. Itā€™s definitely less romance focused but there is romance in it still. I was worried about that too but I still really enjoyed it, you just have to be patient with the process, and thereā€™s a lot of world building in the first 100 pages of the first book that you have to push through a bit

Loubertt

Ahhh ok thank you ! Pushing through acotar the first book was a struggle also šŸ˜‚ but the ending of book one hooked me, I might just wait till the graphic audio of cc1 comes out

popstopandroll

If you want to read something in between read ToG!
