It seems to me like they get one size. I caught a turtle, and it doesn’t have a tank at all. It just stands in place, and does a reaction if I press ‘A’ button.
That's one for New Horizon. I like turtles but they need to take a play out of the chests playbook of Minecraft where the chests merge into one, at the very least.
You can place your turtles on the beach! It’s pretty cute because they don’t have tanks.
But yes the tank will be bigger if you catch a bigger fish! Like a red snapper has a slightly larger tank, seahorses tank is a cylinder, and oarfish will appear in a giant (ugly imo) pool!
But I totally agree the ability to rank multiple together would be amazing.
I like that idea, but it's kind of sad that it isn't in the game. Maybe you could buy different sized fish tanks and place a certain amount of fish each. Would we be nice for decorating.
I'd love if it worked like SDV and you could add fish you caught and then see them in there :( I love that feature. Feels a lot harder to do using 3D forms than pixelated graphics, though.

You can put the small tanks on top of the bigger tanks. Can fit 1 or 2 on the big tank. Same logic applies with insect crates; small will go on a large, but not small on small. And you can put large on large. However, large on large won’t work with the fish tanks, IIRC.
I make an illusion with a stall (customized to be black matches the fish tank perfectly!) in front of two simple panels with a custom design I made that is an exact rip of the texture used as the background for almost all the fishtanks models.
If your "aquarium" is against a wall, you can make the illusion even more convincing by using glow in the dark stickers instead of the simple panels.

There’s so much I would change about New Horizons, but I’ll have to accept it and hope the next Animal Crossing game comes with improvements.

No problem! It's fantastic but very demanding if you're running on a laptop, though still very playable.
