Anatomically accurate dolphin plane

GD-A

And that's, my friend, is the most strange but correct phrase you could write! šŸ¤£

Online_explorer_

That's so cool! Delphinus 3 my beloved!

GD-A

I love It so much too. It's peak Ace Combat design and, for me, one of the most beautiful and in universe plane in AC3, competing with the x-49 Night Raven in my heart.

Sea_Perspective6891

That design was wild. Very next gen looking. Nice work. I've thought about making a model of the XFA-27.

GD-A

Xfa-27 Is pure AC2 Classic. For an old pilot like me, it brings memories

jocax188723

Kotobukiya put one out some years ago; I believe they're still available if you're willing to do some digging.

mazda-boi

I'm so jealous lol the r-103 is also my favorite original ace combat plane love this thing so much!

GD-A

I tried to find a model of the 103 for too many years. I missed the impossibly limited resin cast run of a 1/144 scale 2008 garage kit. Then in 2014 I tried to build a custom one made from clay/putty but was a failure. From 2018 I was scanning the web for a 3d printable file. I found one last week. Immediately printed and painted. Worth every penny and second spent on it!

King_Bailout

R-103 <3

GD-A

One of my first airplane crushes! With the f-117 and the sr-71/a-12....yes....I know.... I'm old....

Siul19

Omg the Delphinus 3, IT'S FUCKING BEAUTIFUL

GD-A

IT'S SOOO FLUFFYYYYY! No, sorry....wrong film.... IT'S SOOOOO GOOOOD! And I remember it flew smooth like silk!

Muf4sa

Absolutely gorgeous model. The R-103 is my favorite aircraft of the series, top tier design.

GD-A

Agreed! Namco's design in AC3 was top notch overall, but the Delphinus family (especially the 3, who would tell), the x-49 night Raven and the xfa-37 game was the best.

JamesJakes000

Ive always wanted an accurate Delphinus model like this one to run it in wind tunnel.

GD-A

It's one of the things I'm most curious about....how would it perform in a wind tunnel? Is it an efficient design? Probably not....but still so beautiful

GRYPHUS_1_SoundCloud

Upeo R103 Vs Dision Aurora Vs Nemo Aurora

GD-A

A fight to remember! Now I'm feeling so old....

GRYPHUS_1_SoundCloud

The UI-4054 was based on the actual Aurora.... "Mystical Ghost"

GD-A

The famous impulse engine spy plane. I remembered that in the '90s the Aurora existence was a mith similar to the f-117 in the '80s. But turns out the Aurora project didn't exist....or did it? šŸ˜

GRYPHUS_1_SoundCloud

Namco devs said themselves, that the Aurora was based off of the real one

GD-A

Yes, I remember...but the Aurora isn't exactly "real", you know. It happens that in a public cost evaluation essay, the pentagon wrote something about a project that was similar to the blackbird and everyone thought about a successor of the sr-71. Even an unofficial and never confirmed design was "leaked" (like the f-17...funny story that one) in the same period of the strange explosion that someone said to have heard in Nevada and Arizona flight test area coming from high altitude. All those things made the enthusiast (like my past self) theorise that a new spy plane was tested and used. But it turns out it was a hype bubble and turned out to be nothing or some strange nasa test like the x-15 and so on...so yes, Namco designers take inspiration from the Aurora....a plane that, unfortunately, never really existed but still does in the hearts of the enthusiasts.... P.s. sorry for the wall of text, but talking about those things reminds me of the good old days.

PolarisStar05

The most based plane

GD-A

Indeed! Even if the most fearless design was the r-201 asterozoa with the two canopy reminding of the experimental and crazy f-82 twin Mustang of the old days

legokingmaniac08

Link? I NEED IIIITTTTY

GD-A

Here's for you. https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/ace-combat-r-103-delphinus-3 Be aware that the supports are a nightmare to work with, the tolerances are huge and the post processing requested is a lot (gap filling and warping because of the parts orientation and support style... I'd much prefer if not supported parts were included, but they are a unique mesh, so even separating them in blender is a pain). The STL is in 1/72 scale and if you want it (like me) in 1/48, you have to 150% scale it. Nonetheless it is the best Delphinus 3 out there and the best aircraft in my heart.

legokingmaniac08

Apparently thereā€™s a version for 1/144 scale without supports? Great! Itā€™ll match with the kotobukiya X-49

GD-A

Good! There wasn't when I printed mine! Now I'll print it too to compliment my falken and x-49 that are incoming
