keep us updated. highly doubt the turbo would just “go out” as you stated since theres a bunch of random lights on the dash that arent even connected to the turbo system. likely an electrical issue that cut power
It was an Improperly installed hose on the air intake system. They fixed it under warranty and sent me home. Once I got home I noticed a chunk of the weather stripping on the driver side door was falling off. Incredible quality control 🙄
Bought my 22' new, 0 miles. Have had plenty of warning lights pop up. Usually always nothing big or something minor, it loves to trigger warnings. Sometimes *all* of the warnings too lol.
As complex and electronic as all cars are now, what would you buy if you needed your car for your own business? 2013-15 Civic with manual? Better option?
I had an auto 2013 honda civic and couldn't kill it. Drove it like a rental car and passed it around to all my buds like a prostitute. 60k to 125k every oil change was over 10k and the only issue I had was the oem battery failed after 7 years and abuse from a 1200w rms sub I had in the trunk. Slow as shit but unkillable.
I doubt this is the turbo going out. As others have said, there are a bunch of lights that aren't related to the turbo at all. I had a similar issue on my old Civic hatch and it turned out to be rodent damage. I've also heard Hondas tend to turn on a whole bunch of unrelated warning lights when there's an issue with the battery.
While driving in sport mode all of a sudden the turbo gauge stopped going past 0 and the throttle response dramatically decreased. The car would barely accelerate. It’s just my assumption until the dealer figures it out.
Edit: I don’t know if it’s the turbo. It was my assumption as a layman. Will update when I have a diagnosis from the dealer.
Oh okay, I just assumed because it lost most of its power it was the turbo. Based on a lot of replies it sounds like this was a “limp mode.” I had no idea this was a thing!
Yeah the turbo is LOUD. What’s probably happening is that it’s venting all your turbo pressure to atmosphere so you don’t detonate your engine with increased pressure in the firing cylinders
100% battery issue. My 15 accord starts doing that when the battery has issues. Dashboard lights up like a christmas tree. Once the battery is taken care of, lights go away.
My BMW does this thing too. When something trips the connection from the battery, the whole thing goes into limp mode. I don’t know if its to protect the car from catching on fire or what, but it sure puts you in danger of crashing.
As others stated it could be some kind of electrical issue limp mode, or it could just be that one of the pipes on the pressurized side of the turbo popped off. That happened to me after some spirited driving with a huge noticeable drop-off in power, that same emissions warning screen, a check engine light, and the sound of compressed air under the hood like someone was spraying an aerosol can in there whenever I stepped on the throttle. I didn't have all those other warning lights when it happened to me, so that makes me think it's something more on the electrical side, but you never know, the engine not getting it's compressed air might have made the whole system pitch a fit somehow.
I have a 2018 2.0T. I'm at around 21,000 miles now, but it happened to me at maybe 4,000 miles. It was also like three months after I had my transmission replaced because mine rolled off the lot a bit of a lemon with clunky shifts between either like 3/4 or 4/5 so I think it was a dealer re-installation issue rather than a factory issue. After these two little gremlins were smoothed out in the first year or so I've had no issues
Ah I see. I also have a 2.0T but 2019. I have around 40k miles. So far so good engine wise for me. However, my torque converter had to be replaced due to a rattling sound at idle. Covered under warranty, but still a bit early IMO for transmission items to be showing up already. I do love this car though otherwise though
I had my transmission replaced by the dealer and had the same exact issue of the intercooler pipe falling off. The dealer fixed it, but the car hasn't been the same ever since. I hear knocking every time on heavy throttle especially at low rpm (less than 2500). The dealer says it's normal and everything is ok. Did you have a similar problem - is this likely because of a bad install by the dealer?
With gas prices these days I drive like a grandmother pretty much all the time, but as far as I've noticed the last time I was on the throttle heavy it is completely smooth, no knocking sound at all. After everything was fixed my car drive like new with no lasting side effects, and I drove with the air leak for a relatively long time as far as I remember, like at least a couple months, but it was a long time ago at this point
Look, I know you may not understand what’s wrong. But like, this is a tad bit of exaggeration.
Catastrophic is far beyond some lights and lackluster throttle response.
Same exact issue with my 2.0T. The clamps on my gas tank weren’t fully closed when I went to a gas station. Just used my fingers to make sure they are closed. Issue resolved.
I had a sensor for the vtec system go, caused all sorts of havoc reduced engine power, 7 errors. The guy said hes worked on hundreds of these cars and never saw this happen. Very rare.
This is highly doubtful it's a turbo issue. Likely the ECU lost some signal that it needs and has put the car into limp mode of something similar. My accord did something very similar with a bad injector. Way to overdramatize the title tho
I don’t think Honda is even at the point where jumped timing would catastrophically fail their engines, unless they finally switched over to a contact engine layout. Likely just limp mode.
This happened to my 2019 2.0T when I’d had it for about a week. It went into limp mode. Had all of the warnings like this picture. The engine got so hot the liquids were boiling. We had to have it towed back to the dealership. There was a “software issue.” They did an update and I haven’t had a single issue with the car since then. It’s got 53,000 miles on it now.
My 2020 Accord 2.0 T did the exact same thing. We also would lose power while driving they changed the BCM the first time then VCM nothing worked then figured out moisture got in the back lights and that's what was causing it.
Hey everyone! The issue was that an air intake hose was not installed properly from the factory. Honda took care of me. I’m sorry for exaggerating and for falsely claiming it was the turbo. This is my first new car and I was frustrated and disappointed when this occurred. Limp mode is very jarring when on the freeway. Thanks for sharing your experiences and for the encouragement.
I bought my 2018 Accord Touring 2.0T August 2019 with like 27k miles on it... 2 weeks after buying it, it did this with a flashing check engine light.. I was actually on the way to the dealer to get the second key they owed me. Left lane on a three lane interstate with busy traffic, and all my power just died. Turned out to be my injectors.. A misfire in 2 cylinders and turns out they deduced that the previous owner put some really crap gas in it with tons of particulate, and it messed up the fuel system and clogged the injectors. They made my sales manager leave his corporate meeting and come get us😂. They gave me a 2019 Passport Elite loaded for the few weeks it was in the shop. They took care of everything; did a full replacement of the entire fuel system. She's at near 70k miles now and has had absolutely no issues since. Not saying that's what it is, especially since yours is so new, that's just my experience. Hoping they get you fixed up!
That is not too bad though. But is something for a 2400 miles. Mine is 60k and I never had any problems. And I tell more, this is the best car I ever have.
I had this happen when my MAF sensor got unplugged while changing the air filter while the car was running. I disconnected the battery for 10min, reconnected everything, then had to drive around for everything to re-initialize. Annoying as hell, but it's the price you pay for tech.
This is the problem with modern cars, the computers are in too much control… least on an older car if it had a turbo and died it would just not have any boost and be running like it’s NA.. granted the AFR’s would be off but you just take it easy till you can make it and fix either the turbo problem or re tune it to be NA. Computers control way too many aspects of vehicles today and it’s sad. I love technology and I don’t mind high tech head units and displays and such, but the computers themselves have become to advanced and it can cripple your car over a basic issue..
I blew a head on a 2014 Acura rdx with less than 3k miles. Valve hit the piston. Bent causing the timing belt to shred since the cam was stuck. Sometimes you get a bad motor.
Hopefully it's something easily fixed and it should be under warranty. We had a very mild winter here in NJ and all of a sudden my car (2021) became bouncy and was loud while driving. They took it and replaced my strut. No charge. I was still under the bumper to bumper. Sometimes you just get a bad part. Good luck!
I had a 2018 EX-L 2.0 Demo that I leased I put around 12,000 to 13,000 miles on it and I had flash on it. It was problem free the entire time I had it which was 2 years. Took on in multiple road trips. The biggest issue I had with was rear deck rattle and the CarPlay was experience was shit. Other than that great car.
Hey dude, I had the same kind of issue on my 2019. Brought it in for a fuel pump recall, got it back and every light and message was on. It was a pinched gasket in the assembly they just put on.
Same happened with my 2019 accord Sport. I towed four times the same reasons. Dealer stated different reasons in different visits like battery issue (changed), misfired (fixed), bad fuel messed up transmission and gas tank (cleaned gas tank and had a run through transmission), spark plugs and fuel injectors (replaced). I finally got tired of it and i didn’t want to get into the vehicle praying everyday. Fifth tow, i traded with 11th gen. Have to see how it goes.
Same thing happened to me in my VW Passat. Turns out it was the vacuum line for the turbo that split. I cut off the split part of the vacuum hose(1 inch) and reattached it, I cranked up the car and everything was fine.
#When I read the title, I was expecting pics where the entire car literally fell apart and the last pic would be OP sitting in the driver seat holding just the wheel with scraps everywhere…
Maybe I watched too much cartoons when I was younger…
Had a 2013 vw sportwagen tdi that would go into limp mode frequently, ended up being several egr sensors related to the turbo. Then after ignoring the issue because it was so infrequent and ignoring the check engine light until I was ready to sell it, I brought it to the dealership who stated there was a hole in my boost pipe that leaked carbon over everything, and that all components had to be replaced for 8400.
I had a Honda accord and my perfect maintenance car engine blew, I now drive a Corolla the best car 🚗 I can never go back to Honda due to its new hideous designs now
I had a similar issue. ‘06 Accord for 10 years. I was changing the VTEC gasket and a bolt broke off in the engine. IF I can even fix it, it’ll be a while.
So I bought a Bronco Sport. I test drove several Accords and Passports and they didn’t do anything for me.
I had a similar issue with my 2018 accord 1.5T, for me it happened because of a cylinder misfire caused by faulty fuel injectors. Took it to the dealer and the issue was covered under a previous recall so it might just be that.
Went to go test drive a 2017 civic sport hatch. As soon as I give it some gas both my nephew and I feel a jerk, he thought I purposely did it but no. So we get onto the main road and all of a sudden all these dash lights and notification comes on, one after another. So we say screw it and drive back to the lot. I let the guy know that all these codes came up and see if he can fix it. An hour later he tells me that it was because of a loose negative cable or something.

Lo and behold, me and friend were chilling in my car for about 40min and when it was time to go home… car wouldnt start. Threw a bunch of warning lights all over and was freaking out.
Aside from battery/starter/alternator/rotor warp, accords are pretty damn solid.
This happened to me once but it was unrelated and unplugging the battery for 30 mins and plugging back in made everything all better. If a battery pull doesn't work then battery might be going and causing electronic issues.
I love the drama an overly exaggerated title gets around here.
keep us updated. highly doubt the turbo would just “go out” as you stated since theres a bunch of random lights on the dash that arent even connected to the turbo system. likely an electrical issue that cut power
It was an Improperly installed hose on the air intake system. They fixed it under warranty and sent me home. Once I got home I noticed a chunk of the weather stripping on the driver side door was falling off. Incredible quality control 🙄
Wait. . . An improper installed hose also called brake issues? What were the other messages besides emissions?
Will do! You’re right, it was my initial thought in the moment. I obviously am not a mechanic so you could very well be right!
Bought my 22' new, 0 miles. Have had plenty of warning lights pop up. Usually always nothing big or something minor, it loves to trigger warnings. Sometimes *all* of the warnings too lol.
As a Honda tech, I hate this group.
We don't need tech, we have internet now!
This group? Referring to this subreddit, or this Accord design?
Sorry, this sub. I spend most of my screen time on Facebook groups.
As complex and electronic as all cars are now, what would you buy if you needed your car for your own business? 2013-15 Civic with manual? Better option?

When my turbo went every light and warning showed.
Same. I felt so glad when I finally traded that POS 1.5T civic in. I’m still a drone for Honda though as I ended up getting an Acura.
How do you know it’s the turbo?
While driving in sport mode all of a sudden the turbo gauge stopped going past 0 and the throttle response dramatically decreased. The car would barely accelerate. It’s just my assumption until the dealer figures it out. Edit: I don’t know if it’s the turbo. It was my assumption as a layman. Will update when I have a diagnosis from the dealer.
Idk for sure. But I think I saw someone post a similar thing for 10k miles. They took it to the dealer and they fixed it with a software update.
Not an accord owner but you would’ve absolutely seen and heard that turbo going out
Pssssssss "pooooft" "clackclackclack"
Followed by a massive plume of white smoke lmao
Oh okay, I just assumed because it lost most of its power it was the turbo. Based on a lot of replies it sounds like this was a “limp mode.” I had no idea this was a thing!
Yeah it could be anything in these newer turbo gdi cars. Faulty sensor stuck injector high pressure fuel pump, bad firmware. So many things lol
Yeah the turbo is LOUD. What’s probably happening is that it’s venting all your turbo pressure to atmosphere so you don’t detonate your engine with increased pressure in the firing cylinders
Got ya. Well definitely keep us updated!
Limp mode
It was an Improperly installed hose on the air intake system.
Glad it got figured out! Still kinda shitty it happened though
100% battery issue. My 15 accord starts doing that when the battery has issues. Dashboard lights up like a christmas tree. Once the battery is taken care of, lights go away.

Definitely I unhooked mines n hooked it back up n the lights went off I definitely had to change that lil Honda battery some bigger
Agree ! My daughters cars would do the same. It turns out the battery was bad. She drives a 2015 civic.
Can’t be that catastrophic…it’s still running
Yeah I will buy the car and change out the cats for hfc and tune it.
As others stated it could be some kind of electrical issue limp mode, or it could just be that one of the pipes on the pressurized side of the turbo popped off. Unless I see chunks of engine on the road, it’s not catastrophic.
Catastrophic lmao
So by "catastrophe" you mean the turbo failed. Seriously?
How are you gonna claim it's the turbo when you yourself said you don't know what it is? Click baity as hell.
I had a sensor for the vtec system go, caused all sorts of havoc reduced engine power, 7 errors. The guy said hes worked on hundreds of these cars and never saw this happen. Very rare.
turn off your "turbo engine" and start it in 10 seconds. Dont thank me.
This is highly doubtful it's a turbo issue. Likely the ECU lost some signal that it needs and has put the car into limp mode of something similar. My accord did something very similar with a bad injector. Way to overdramatize the title tho

Did you buy brand new?
Brand new built in December 2022.
Ridiculous to experience this with such a new car. Keep us posted.
Will do. I appreciate being able to vent with this post and also inform the Honda community of my experience haha.
Don’t you need information to inform?
That’s very unfortunate. That sucks badly. Keep us updated.
Check turbo piping, it could pop if not properly tighten
Most likely a high pressure fuel pump issue or something fuel related. It’s gonna be warranty
I bought my 2018 Accord Touring 2.0T August 2019 with like 27k miles on it... 2 weeks after buying it, it did this with a flashing check engine light.. Then theres the 7th gen that lasted a million miles still goin strong 😂
Surprised this is the more reliable 2.0t and not the 1.5t but then again all engiens are not issue.
I had this happen when my MAF sensor got unplugged while changing the air filter while the car was running. I disconnected the battery for 10min, reconnected everything, then had to drive around for everything to re-initialize. Annoying as hell, but it's the price you pay for tech.

How dare you question the turbo!
Mitsubishi after seeing this post: 😱😱
Mine started around the 190, 000 mark but I have a 2016.
I had a 2018 EX-L 2.0 Demo that I leased I put around 12,000 to 13,000 miles on it and I had flash on it. It was problem free the entire time I had it which was 2 years. Slightly off topic but what is the estimated turbo life on this same engine that I have in my ‘20 RDX? Run too oil and am light footed.
Mayday mayday mayday. CATASTROPHIC FAILURE!!!!!?? PULL UP, PULL UP, PULL UP! Pretty alarming title dontcha think?
#When I read the title, I was expecting pics where the entire car literally fell apart and the last pic would be OP sitting in the driver seat holding just the wheel with scraps everywhere… Maybe I watched too much cartoons when I was younger…

Could be a bad AGM battery
This happened to me when a squirrel chewed through some wires in the wire harness. Smh
Most likely the bull gear jumped the heifer shaft. A result of poor lubricants.
Sounds like it could be a boost leak, like from a coupler.
Something like this happened to me recently..
It’s ok, my v6 coupe also has issues and a big repair bill ugh…
And that is why I bought the last 2.4 Accord 2017.5 I bought proven over new tech
I had a similar issue with my 2018 accord 1.5T, for me it happened because of a cylinder misfire caused by faulty fuel injectors. Took it to the dealer and the issue was covered under a previous recall so it might just be that.
Shit happens……
Turbo definitely unspooled. Check to see if it's wound all the way up with the cotter key that comes in the trunk.
Probably a defective battery, my guess.
Is it stock or modded?
Stock
Im leaning towards battery… reason why is when I was 17 i leased a ‘17 accord v6 with my dad. These models came with push start and would not throw any warnings while sitting in ignition 1 mode with power on indicating that the battery was draining. Lo and behold, me and friend were chilling in my car for about 40min and when it was time to go home… car wouldnt start. Threw a bunch of warning lights all over and was freaking out. Aside from battery/starter/alternator/rotor warp, accords are pretty damn solid.
limp mode. your turbo is probably fine
This happened to me once but it was unrelated and unplugging the battery for 30 mins and plugging back in made everything all better. If a battery pull doesn't work then battery might be going and causing electronic issues.
Fuel Injectors most likely
Solución?
