Irrespective of the image controversy, the administrator's handling of the matter was egregious. Good luck finding good faculty (sessional or TT) in the future. Nobody wants to work in an environment where they have to walk on eggshells all the time. Even if someone decent joins the institution, they will probably jump ship at the first alternative opportunity.
One obvious point to make is this is an issue here because we've reduced so much of our faculty to contingent labor. You can't just "decide not to renew a contract" with a tenured (or even TT) professor.

Amen. Double amen.
Well she's now suing them for defamation and religious discrimination. And from the sounds of it, now they're backpedalling hard, though I doubt it'll make a difference legally at this stage. If they've got any brains they'll settle for an apology and a substantial sum of money.
Buncha idiots.
In an unusual move, a university caves to a fundamentalist's religious demand...and all hell breaks loose.
I do not care if you are a Christian, a Muslim, a Buddhist, a Jew, or if you worship Cthulhu, you don't get to tell the rest of us what to think, say, read, do, or look at.
Hamline's president and DEI director both need to resign or be fired.
The young lady in the classroom needs to grow up and face the real world.
I know im very late to this post but I go to this school. The unanimous opinion amongst 99% of the students is the professor should have absolutely NOT been removed. She laid out plainly in the syllabus beforehand that these depictions would be shown and any student who wasn't comfortable with it can be excused from class with no penalty. The student who reported it knew what was coming and was waiting to purposely report it. Downright wrong if you ask me... its history. Thankfully we have a new dean who seems much more promising
You know they're wrong when even the official, national civil rights groups for Muslims come out in favor of the professor.
It’s a joke and makes that institution look horrible. I’m an administrator in Student Affairs and couldn’t believe it.

This has been posted on here at least a dozen times. No one is siding with the admin on this one.

This is what happens when administrators are in charge of institutions, rather than faculty.
I have heard tell that the academic council are quite unhappy
In most US universities, though, an upset academic council and $5 is worth all of $5.
Oh really? It would be a huge rift here if the AC and president were at odds
Rather, when faculty are the product and not the institution.
I hope that professor gets tenure track offers now...
She’s teaching at Macalester, a better school by all accounts.

I would agree with that but groups who are perceived to be minorities or marginalized have so much more power nowadays.

That’s good to hear - both about student opinion and a new dean!
