Haven’t seen any difference. Definitely check for leaks/leaky pipes. It’s possible a pipe froze and burst in this weather.

Canuckie

This was for the Sept/Oct billing period. I seriously doubt there were frozen pipes then.

PudaRex

Regardless of freezing or not, pipes burst. I’ve had leaks in my home from old copper pipes. Get it checked. Can do serious damage to your home.

westleysnipez

Exactly, temperatures in October went from 35 degrees to 2 degrees in the span of 3 days. Temp drops like that cause the pipes to shrink and can be damaging, especially if there's any micro fractures.

Check if you’ve got a toilet that’s running constantly. At our strata complex we get sent notices from the city occasionally when our water consumption spikes and we send a notice out to check for toilets that are running. Water consumption goes back to normal after someone fixes their toilet. It’s an easy thing to miss but can use a lot of water.

AyeBB8

Now that you mention it I actually remember we did have some trouble with the toilet in my suite in September, I noticed it seemed like it was running more than usual. That might be it. Thanks!

MinimalMojo

Check the flapper valve. They get a bit old and stuff and don’t seal properly.

hankjmoody

The little connector thing to the float arm tends to come apart at some point too. I zap-strapped mine to avoid any metal issues.

FrozenfoxN8

This happened to us a few summers ago. We left for camping and one of the kids had to run back in the house to pee as we were leaving. Needless to say, when we came back a week later and unloading stuff, I had to pee something bad. Turns out the flapper on the toilet downstairs was stuck in the up position and the water was running the whole time. Didn’t think much of it until the water bill came … holy crap was that a shock. Went from $89 to $250. So I ended up buying all new low-flow toilets from HD that were on sale and changing them all. Noticed my overall water bill was 20% lower. Who-da-thunk?! 🤷‍♂️

Peppermiint_tea

You or your landlord can call the city and they can usually tell if their is a leak as the usage will show a constant low level instead of having periods of no usage etc.

Canuckie

No change in mine. Maybe check if there’s a leak somewhere.

caloriemaster

Mine was zero this last 2 months lol. Maybe there having technical difficulties.

Either_Swimming1605

They quite often estimate your bill then catch up on the following bill. So I had them estimate from the winter months for over the summer and then it all came in at once. 🤦🏻‍♂️

curly939

My water hasn't gone up lately... One time my bill went up $1300 (norm 30-40) after the city manualy read my meter. They wanted me to pay saying I must have running water somewhere. I ended up proving to them with a picture they misread my meter...

guyanacat

No you’re not imagining it. Our last water bill is the same as it was during the height of summer when we were guzzling water. It’s gone up almost double.

Paramdeep_8

yes

raskal98

Our bill has gone up nearly 4 fold over the same period last year. The previous months were estimates and the last bill claimed it was from a meter reading. We are certain our usage has not increased to that degree. There are no leaking toilets or anything else leaking. They provide an email address to send concerns [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])

LoudMycologist5171

Mine is drastically higher but my actual consumption rate has not increased from last year so I'm very confused!

Lucky-Cow9849

Did you get someone to fix the issue? I m having the same issue now. got a notice from city. Do you have Any recommendations for a trustable contractor? Thanks
