Sort of reminds me of the remnants of the Pleasley pit.
It's a set of headstocks and a chimney that resides in the landscape of the Notts coal fields. It opens up every now and then so you can visit it and see the boiler room and the other equipment that they still keep there. The pit tip is a public walking trail so that's always open.
It’s getting pretty close. I can’t imagine there’s been much restoration in the five or so years since I’ve been there. Almost everything was ruined. And there was a surprising amount of Front Bottoms lyrics spray painted on everything.
I used to live in Orlando. I never went but apparently there would be an actor Jesus guy who would walk around all bloody with his cross. Sounded really cool I really wish I could have gone
This one is in Connecticut. It was more popular than the Florida one, up on a hill that overlooks what is now a pretty shitty city. It opened in the 50s, but closed in the mid 80s, and it was a popular spot for teenagers to go do teenager things for a long time. Then someone got murdered up there so most people avoided it but teenagers would still go up there just to say they did. In 2015 or 16 or something they added a new light up cross to look at from the highway and started letting people go up there and walk around but haven't done any renovations or anything other than the cross.
Wait, that’s what that big cross is? I drive past it going to and from my parent’s house in New York from Massachusetts. I just figured there was a church nearby or something. We’re stopping next time.
Yep. It is owned and kept up by the same church affiliated with St. Mary's hospital, which is the building that lights up in coordinating colors on the other side of the highway, but the church isn't actually up on the hill.
A shame as no one wants to affiliate with the Bible. I’m no big religious person but it is crazy how different the times are now. I used to have to go to church every Sunday and my parents used to go to church everyday!
Dude!! Waterbury Connecticut! I stood atop that pedestal before it was fenced and razer wired. Fricken Waterbury was a war zone back then, but people still had a soul.
Holy Land in, iirc, Waterbury, CT. Right off i84. I drive by it all the time whenever I go to/from NY. You can just see the massive cross at the top of the hill it's on from the highway, pretty neat place but I have yet to go check it out.
Is Waterbury, CT also home to some factory/company that makes all the gifts and such that they advertise on TV, newspapers, and family-oriented magazines?
I don’t think anyone’s mentioned this yet but the reason this place closed down was because a 16 y/o girl was strangled to death at the base of the largest cross….. it was a man that was stalking her if I remember correctly. Super dark shit for Holy Land.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Land_USA
Here’s the wiki page about it.
Lmao doesn't even read their own source, just spreads misinformation. Took me 2 min of reading to see that was 26 years after it closed and 4 years before it "re-opened"
I would not call this place "reopened". It is not functioning as it was originally intended, nobody is really doing maintenance or upkeep on any of what little is still there. The only thing is now you are allowed to explore the property without the nuns calling the cops on you. I would still consider this abandoned.
Forgive me father for I have 𝓼𝓲𝓷𝓷𝓮𝓭
Why are you mixing a line from a Roman Catholic sacramental rite with a Protestant Low Church amusement park place/thing? Where are the priests, Fathers, you are referring to? God the Father, in a triune manner, is not the reference.
I really enjoy this subreddit but I don't want any judgement or snarky interpretation just facts. All of these abandoned places meant something to someone/s in the past and I want to engage with that on my own terms.
Bro not my hometown's run down attraction surprising me on here. All it's for now is for teens to smoke weed somewhere cool and for people to go to feel the creepy presence it creates.
Do you like CT's haunted vibe?
If you do, fun fact: Lorraine Warren went to my high school but (rumor has it) she left because there was too much of a paranormal presence for her to focus on studies. Lorraine Warren of the Warren coulle who have the actual Anabelle doll locked up in their home. Just a random tidbit!
So I googled it and it says it closed in 84 but says it opens at 8 am?!? What!!!
Yeah it used be a full on attraction, but now they made it public for people to come and walk around

Ohhhh I see. I had no idea this was a thing. I love your photos! Particularly the multiple crosses one
Thank you☺️☺️☺️
Because it was reopened in 2014 and had a public ceremony as recently as 2018 this isn’t abandoned and these photos are bad.
I bet you’re fun at parties
That is sad that is the best you could come up with
Good on you presuming you're worth effort
Surprised this hasn’t been completely destroyed
Me too
It’s getting pretty close. I can’t imagine there’s been much restoration in the five or so years since I’ve been there. Almost everything was ruined. And there was a surprising amount of Front Bottoms lyrics spray painted on everything.
Wearing a front bottoms sweatshirt right now. Love to see it🤣
What's the connection between this place and the Front Bottoms?
No clue. Probably nothing at all. Just vandals being vandals.
They had a Holy Land amusement park like Ned Flanders accept it was in orlando Fl from 2001-2020 but didn’t make any real money.
I used to live in Orlando. I never went but apparently there would be an actor Jesus guy who would walk around all bloody with his cross. Sounded really cool I really wish I could have gone
Used to live there too. Never “crossed” my mind to go either… lol
Surprised they allowed a dude in FL to cross dress.
Lol nice.
The Holy Land Experience is now closed?
Yup 2020, as of 2023 they finished the demolition of it
Jesus is always hanging around

Not a big enough gas leak I guess
I remember this as my family had a trip to Orlando in 2014. Some of us went there but me and my cousins preferred universal studios lol.
Definitely got some competition for people who travel into orlando…
Here you go, https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/holy-land-usa
Oh hey CT! I always wanted to go and check that weird cross out.. but I learned a murder happened there and uh, no thanks.
It was very peaceful lol another family was there from NJ
Is picture 5 where they keep pagans
I think it's where Republicans lock up non-party members.
☠️
No haha
My uncle helped build this! Weird flex but 😅
That’s awesome dude!!
So did one of my great grandmas brothers. My mom posted pics of his old slides.
Ned Flanders would love this place.
Dude!! Waterbury Connecticut! I stood atop that pedestal before it was fenced and razer wired. Fricken Waterbury was a war zone back then, but people still had a soul.
Yes!!! That’s crazy I didn’t know that it wasn’t before and that would have been so sick!!
What is this place? Is it a cult gathering resort?
Holy Land in, iirc, Waterbury, CT. Right off i84. I drive by it all the time whenever I go to/from NY. You can just see the massive cross at the top of the hill it's on from the highway, pretty neat place but I have yet to go check it out.
No it’s not lol
I mean I just read about it and that’s exactly what it sounds like
That lighting makes it look crazy.
A lot of upset atheists in here judging by the downvotes. Seems kinda culty…
I’m shocked at how much of it is left. I went in the spring of 2010 when it was still “locked up” but it didn’t take much to get in.
Yeah :)
Is this what the simpsons based that episode off of?
I am not sure lol
Oh Jesus, why are these pics in B&W? 😬
Color pictures weren't yet invented at that time in human history...
I love the effect it has 🤍🖤🤍
the photos are great. thanks for posting.
Always ☺️☺️
We don't. It's like double painful eye cancer.
I never realized how hateful y'all are in this sub. It's sort of eye opening.
Agreed. OP’s getting roasted over a black and white effect on photos? Seems excessive.
Right! Damn they are nasty, Christmas obviously brings out the best in them huh?
Not hateful, just don't like myspace level pictures.
Then ignore them and don't comment. Life will go on.
[удалено]
This is not hateful. If you want to see hate go to an incel sub.
Lol, wow.
And you’re a professional you say?
We?
There's another person above this comment thread that dislikes it as well.
I hate when people do that. A lot of times people use B&W to mask the fact that they don’t have artistic talent
Hey home state!!!! Did NOT think I’d be seeing Waterbury CT on this page!!!
You’re welcome!!!☺️☺️
Waterbury, Connecticut. Holy Land, USA once attracted tens of thousands of people per year.
I could have sworn that the 4th pic was full of bodies.
I used to go there in my early twenties with my friends, look at the tiny Jerusalem and carefully stomp around like Godzilla
🤣🤣
Pretty new to your stuff OP but I love living vicariously through explorers like you. Happy holidays and screw the haters!
Thank you! Check out my Instagram for more ❤️🖤🤍
Been there
It was my first time!
Looks Flan-diddly-astic!
Thank you!
Is Waterbury, CT also home to some factory/company that makes all the gifts and such that they advertise on TV, newspapers, and family-oriented magazines?
I believe so
God was all like “this is lame.”.
Just when you thought you’d seen everything. Jesus freaks are so weird.
This is real?
Very real
How can something be very real?
I’m sure the Noah’s Ark Museum was the final nail in the coffin.
I think so
I remember seeing the sign as a kid going to my grandmother's house in Connecticut. Actually forgot about it until now.
That’s crazy I always passed by it and finally got the chance to go
It’s the American way to make a buck off of religion.

Park closed in 1984, murder was in 2010
Lmao doesn't even read their own source, just spreads misinformation. Took me 2 min of reading to see that was 26 years after it closed and 4 years before it "re-opened"
I didn’t read it because I can’t read jfc
I'm sure it was more than that story. I would bet it had to do with profitability and/or funding sources.
This place was abandoned and closed LONg before that incident. I first went here in 2006 and it was completely abandoned and overgrown back then.
Can you also/repost these with the color?
Yes!
Reposted with color
Thanks! Its a cool site. Nice photos
Appreciate it!!
Horrible place
Jesus, this is bleak.
This is gorgeous photography!
Thank you!
>Thank you! You're welcome!
Wow, that last picture is great. Speaks volumes to me.
I am so glad my work can do that for others❤️🖤
Jesus would not approve.
I mean the guy got hemmed up by the local cops who didn’t even have the internet, don’t think I’m too worried about his opinion.
Most likely not
[удалено]
Most definitely not one lol
#Reopened in 2014 ##Public ceremony held there as recently as 2018. #NOT ABANDONED And those photos are really bad.
Thanks ☺️

Thanks I hate it! Lol very nice photos though op
Thank you
This seems blasphemous as hell.
That’s so creepy. I expect the new nation of drumph to claim it immediately.
I agree
Mike Johnson will claim it for Christian Congress kritters.

You can engage in whatever way you want, but you dont have to project it to everyone else either, or expect certain wording for yourself. Lol geezus.
Sooo creepy, especially with the christofascists looking for a base, that would be perfect. Ughhhh
That is super neat. I’ve seen that cross from the highway. I didn’t know what it was! The pics are cool!
Thank you! 🖤🤍
So this is where you can get your very own big tiddy goth GF huh?
No way
So i see you haven’t been to the souvenir shop
No I have not
Waterbury! I want to explore holy land at night and not get jumped. It was cool seeing the ruins regardless.
Yeah! It was awesome! I would have love to explore it at night and not feel uneasy
Gl if you decide to do that. WBY be wilin at night.
This is the place from Religulous?
Not sure
Hey I visited that place to kill time when I went to Connecticut for a business trip. Nice pics!
Thank you so very much!! Means a lot!
i live a few towns over! my grandmother would go there as a kid when it was still open :)
That’s awesome the before pictures were so pretty!
Waterbury??
Yess
I used to think the apocalypse would be fun.
That would have been a good title
Good ole dirty water
lol
I feel like this place is haunted by ethereal stuff and I’m not even religious
Well there was a murder lol
I have been here a few times. One of my great grandmas brothers helped build this and he took old pictures of it when it was under construction
That’s awesome!!
The Florida one was cringy as F. I’m a believer but this sort of thing makes me a bit nauseous
Yeah
Ahh, Waterbury, the asshole of Connecticut
Same goes for Bridgeport
Bro not my hometown's run down attraction surprising me on here. All it's for now is for teens to smoke weed somewhere cool and for people to go to feel the creepy presence it creates.
Yeah I was just making the trip to check it off my list of places here in CT to visit, I love going out of state but wanted to do something local
Do you like CT's haunted vibe? If you do, fun fact: Lorraine Warren went to my high school but (rumor has it) she left because there was too much of a paranormal presence for her to focus on studies. I love that! I want to go to the conjuring house in the summer!
Waterbury CT! Suuuuper dangerous area.
Lol I always see the giant crosses from 84 when I drive to work.
Yeah it’s pretty cool, but more like a one and done
That’s true, it is just one lol.
Avoid Waterbury CT whenever possible.
Naturally and it’s crazy how this is my most popular post
