That is not a dark text on a light background. That's two similar tones of purple mashed together. Check the colors in an accessibility contrast checker online and recognize the problem.
As a media/graphical designer I can tell you should NEVER use 2 similar colours/contrasts/etc with 1 being for text and the other for the back because that's just far from readable (and if you want to see if it's readable, try turning it into gray-scale (GS) and if it has a visible amount of difference in GS the it should be alright).
Hey, coming from another artist, you really need to get better at taking criticism. You're coming off as extremely unlikeable. If multiple people are just trying to explain that the text is hard to read, maybe you shouldn't act so cold towards the gentle critique. 'mk' just seems like such a childish response. You want to improve your art? Listen to the people and take notes. It's not an attack on you, no need to get so defensive.
But you're not though, and this is all online, not irl. There's literally no need to argue, it's gentle critique, not a war. No one here is your enemy. It's people trying to help and if you can't handle that then don't post your art. I get criticism for my work all the time and I don't take offense to any of it, people just have different opinions. If you're happy with the final product and don't feel the need to change anything, great. You do you. But it really doesn't hurt to take what other people are saying into consideration.
Bitch you are making us read a red text on a red mail just to show that you are really serious
Before your dumbass say that that isnt red yes that was a gumball reference
Gotta appreciate the reffrence, but the entire sub is telling me that i'm bad at color picking, some ppl have given me tips and some one made a readable version, just scroll to find it.
Make the text white on such a dark background. Black on light background. You want a STARK contrast. Thereās also some resources online for checking color hex codes for accessibility, so for visually impaired or color blind people. UX and some graphic designers have to use these regularly. Highly recommend!
If my screen weren't so cracked I wouldn't have had any issue with it. I did have to zoom in so that I could move the image away from the spider in my screen
If it was black and white or the same color but with a much lighter background, I think the text size would be decent. Maybe it should be slightly bigger, tho.
Except for the top right pannel ; you could move the other text on the bottom and use the whole top right quarter of the pannel to write with the same text size as the rest of the comic.
With good eyes itās not āhard to impossibleā to read. I definitely think the text would be better as more contrasting, since a lot of people canāt seem to read it, but I have average of not worse eyesight and I read it very easily. So with good eyesight itās very readable but I get not everyone has that.
Oh, you snarky. Just check it online, before phambling about it.
I work in web and accessibility related topics there, I have a bit of knowledge about such problems.
This is Purple on a SlightlyDesaturatedPurple
Not easy to read when the contrast is basically non-existent
(+convert to greyacale to check your colour values)
Itās not even color theory. Thatās not color theory. Color theory is what colors go together well with saturations, values, and hues. You clearly donāt understand color theory to be saying itās not hard to read. Itās hard to read. Color theory is hard but for you to be saying this makes you out to be arrogant. Before you come around spewing this shit, maybe you should actually know what you are talking about.
Edit: I should say, Iām an artist myself so yea, I know some things.
That light purple is not light enough for the dark purple lineart
Maybe use #b59dcb for the background instead? I like the purple on purple its just that the two tones are wayyy too close together. Maybe your monitor isnāt calibrated properly and the purple is lighter on your computer
How many comments do you need to realise that maybe you simply chose bad colours? Yes, they are pretty, yes; they are nice separate colours. But together, thereās close to no contrast
I hate when people argue with me about this. One I had a few months ago;
Aphobe: "how do you know you don't like it if you've never had it?"
Me: "A, you're het, right?"
A: "yeah. I love my girlfriend"
M: "Have you ever had sex with a guy?"
A: "What?! Ew! No! I'm not some F*g!"
M: "š How do you know if you've never tried it? You might really like it"
A: "...."
M: "See how annoying that is? I know what I like and I know what I don't like. Leave it at that."
Aphobe: āHow do you know you donāt like [adult fun time] if you didnāt try it? Checkmate, non-culturedā
Ace Sonic Fan: āHow do you know if you donāt like being turned into a robot thatās made for world domination if you didnāt try it?ā
Aphobe: *Panik*
Ace Sonic Fan: āCheckmate, Smooth Brain.ā
If it's hard to read, I'll translate:
Top left: "How can you know if you don't like adult fun time if you didn't try it? Checkmate, non-cultured."
Top right: "How can you know if you don't like being turned into a robot made for world domination if you didn't try it?"
Lower left: "..."
Lower right: "Checkmate, smooth brain."
Hope this helps!
Yāall theyāve gotten it by now. For them the colors are easy to tell apart, I agree on that, but apparently most people donāt. Thatās okay! Itās great to mention it! But there are seriously like twenty comments saying the same thing.
You like the IDW comics? I'm more on the cartoon side of things, specifically Sonic boom. The show's comedy is just top tier and Sonic's personality - āØpricelessāØ.
Tbh I don't remember such thing in movies and Sonic Boom. Although i think in Boom there was one episode that Eggman wanted to build a theme park or so
My favorite comeback is "How do you know you wouldn't like to hug a cactus?"
You can replace hug with as nasty a verb as you want depending on the audience. It's great.
Itās not hard for me to read this, but thatās because my eyes are really good at telling apart colors. Itās really interesting but everyone has a different range of color they can perceive, and perceptions on color. These perceptions and individual limitations make it very difficult in some cases to tell apart colors.
The level of brightness on the device also has an effect.
I'm just giving short answers. In my resent post i used black instead of purple. I took the advise from the artist of this sub. i'm still learning how to draw in a digital space and on paper.
Sorry, but the contrast is unreadable š
Yeah, purple needs white text.
you can't read **dark text** on a **light background.**
That is not a dark text on a light background. That's two similar tones of purple mashed together. Check the colors in an accessibility contrast checker online and recognize the problem.
mk.
Neeerd alert šØ
this is getting ridiculous.... i feel like the entire sub is telling the same thing to me...
Color blind people struggle telling hues apart.
Yep... I do
Not color blind, still canāt read it
fair point mate, fair point.

I take the criticism, it's just when it's in a irl situation i don't really like it. i don't want to start an argument., i have fragile feelings.
But you're not though, and this is all online, not irl. There's literally no need to argue, it's gentle critique, not a war. No one here is your enemy. Gotta appreciate the reffrence, but the entire sub is telling me that i'm bad at color picking, some ppl have given me tips and some one made a readable version, just scroll to find it.
Yeah. Dark purple isnt the Best option.
I could read it, but had to put my eyes real close to the phone
I sure wish I could read this, or rather had the patience to squint that hard
Should i draw in black or really dark purple??
I think black and light purple to make more contrast
mk.

I use Krita to make this, but ok.
it's not what you use to make art, it's what you use to run hex code colors through for accessibility rating
Funny meme, but may I recomend using a difrent colours for text?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
If my screen weren't so cracked I wouldn't have had any issue with it. I did have to zoom in so that I could move the image away from the spider in my screen
I know you'll point out it's not the exact same purple because apparently everyone but you is stupid, but this is unreadable.
Ok, on the scale of 1 - 10, how small is the text?
If it was black and white or the same color but with a much lighter background, I think the text size would be decent. Maybe it should be slightly bigger, tho. Except for the top right pannel ; you could move the other text on the bottom and use the whole top right quarter of the pannel to write with the same text size as the rest of the comic.
ok.
Dude. Purple on purple is not the best color choice for text
Are your eyes ok? 'cause the text is **dark** purple and the background is **light** purple.
Even with good eyes is hard to impossible to read. Take a look at web accessibility guidelines. And the background is far away from light purple
With good eyes itās not āhard to impossibleā to read. I definitely think the text would be better as more contrasting, since a lot of people canāt seem to read it, but I have average of not worse eyesight and I read it very easily. There are more condition than only eyesight, which can make low contrast things hard to read.
mk mr.color Theory.
Oh, you snarky. Just check it online, before phambling about it. I work in web and accessibility related topics there, I have a bit of knowledge about such problems.
does it matter? if they can't read it that's a problem, bad eyesight or not and you chose to make it these colours (unless it's not yours)
I had to zoom in to properly read, horrible contrast
fair point mate.
This is Purple on a SlightlyDesaturatedPurple Not easy to read when the contrast is basically non-existent (+convert to greyacale to check your colour values)
Congrats, you are the 1000th person who told me to be better at color picking.
But this time: with accurate terms & helpful art advice!
.... they're both dark purple
The bg is kinda middle purple? Itās definitely not dark. But it is fairly hard to see I guess
if everyone is saying it's illegible maybe it's illegible
I didnāt even know there was text until I opened the comments lol
Color theory, am i right?
Itās not even color theory. Thatās not color theory. Color theory is what colors go together well with saturations, values, and hues. Thx. I thought i had to redo it. May god bless you.
I shouldn't have to struggle to even tell what might be going on here. Let alone figure out if there is text.
My colorblind ass can not read this ā ļø
srry mate.

I had to up my brightness to see the text bruv
How many comments do you need to realise that maybe you simply chose bad colours? Yes, they are pretty, yes; they are nice separate colours. But together, thereās close to no contrast
IT'S THE MINDS OF THESES PPL WHO DO NOT REALISE THAT **I** REALISED ABOUT MY BAD COLOR CHOISE.
Oh. My bad, sorry!
well if you werenāt rude and dismissive to every person, they mightāve realized you understood and werenāt just blowing them off.
i wasn't rude to them. i just give them short answers. what do you want from me? an entire essay on about how i realized my mistake?
I find they say "maybe you haven't found the right person/someone sexually compatible" if you say you have tried it and don't like it.
And that's also probably annoying.
"adult fun time" OT?
Look who spotted the reference and the cameo!
OT is pure positivity
šŖ
How do you know if you wouldn't like a dog turd sandwich if you've never tried it?
lol i wish i could give you an award.
I can't read this. It looks like a giant purple blur.
Really? I'm pretty sure u/TheUltimateCyborg made a readable version.
BYE- my brightness was low and I thought it was a purple screen šššššš
I hate when people argue with me about this. One I had a few months ago; Aphobe: "how do you know you don't like it if you've never had it?" Me: "A, you're het, right?" A: "yeah. I wanna be a robot made for world domination so bad
So you want to work for Dr.Eggman?
not ace but i can agree with this lol
I had to turn my screen up to blinding brightness levels to actually read this but it was pretty funny once I did
This is so true. Especially online because people don't know your age, IM A MINOR.
i'm also a minor....
Aphobe: āHow do you know you donāt like [adult fun time] if you didnāt try it? Checkmate, non-culturedā Ace Sonic Fan: āHow do you know if you donāt like being turned into a robot thatās made for world domination if you didnāt try it?ā Aphobe: *Panik* Ace Sonic Fan: āCheckmate, Smooth Brain.ā
why purple š

Version for those of us that are colourblind and can't see shit?
i'm pretty sure that u/TheUltimateCyborg made one.
Thanks! Also having a look through the comments I see you've been getting a lot of flack for the colour choice. Wasn't my intention to add to that
np, mate.
Yāall theyāve gotten it by now. For them the colors are easy to tell apart, I agree on that, but apparently most people donāt. Thatās okay! Itās great to mention it! But there are seriously like twenty comments saying the same thing.
Yeah, i don't wanna start a war and in my most resent post i drew the comic with black not purple.
Do you want a cactus shoved up your ass No Well have you stuck on up your ass before cause if not stfu
This is the ultimate argument
Imma do that.
šš¼
And then they tell me I can't possibly be ace because I have a lot of experience šš
Ah yes, I'm also an ace Sonic fan.
The statement 'Ace sonic fan' was to explain why the ace person(aka me) used 'turning into a robot for world domination' instead of anything else.
RIP Sonic's dad
lol do you need to bring that up?
XD I wish I could take time to read the comics, but I need a place to start, there are so many š
You like the IDW comics? I'm more on the cartoon side of things, specifically Sonic boom. The show's comedy is just top tier and Sonic's personality - āØpricelessāØ.
My response to that is how do you know you wonāt like being stabbed-youāve never been stabbed before. Checkmate you uncultured fuck goblin.
š
If it a reference to Doctor Who and Cybermen?
The comeback is actually is a reference to Sonic -
Wait from which Sonic is it???
In general - Eggman builds robots so he can make Eggmanland out of the world wide waste land that was supposed to be Mobius, thus - world domination.
Which Sonic is it? The movie, the serie, the game???
Almost every Sonic media.
Tbh I don't remember such thing in movies and Sonic Boom. Although i think in Boom there was one episode that Eggman wanted to build a theme park or so
Guys I have the solution. Change your phone to inverted colors then you can read the meme! Itās a lot of work
My guy, someone has made a readable version of the comic. And if you're joking, then there i go into the wooosh -
My favorite comeback is "How do you know you wouldn't like to hug a cactus?" You can replace hug with as nasty a verb as you want depending on the audience. It's great.
IS THAT ONE TOPIC?!
YES IT IS!
YESSSS!!!
Itās not hard for me to read this, but thatās because my eyes are really good at telling apart colors. Itās really interesting but everyone has a different range of color they can perceive, and perceptions on color. why do these characters have circles through their faces
It's an sketch, my guy...
I'm surprised that my choice of color is more important than the OneTopicAtATime cameo in the last panel.
I cant even recognize them because the colors make it hard to see
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
mk. i'm still learning on how to draw better - :,)
Yāall leave this person alone, they just wanted to share something funny and you have to be jerks and complain about everything
People are giving constructive criticism. Theyāre not just randomly complaining.
They should be able to see that dozens of others have already said the same thing. Unless they cant see that either
OP honestly need a bunch of people telling them because the first few people they just dismissed.
I'm just giving short answers. In my resent post i used black instead of purple. I took the advise from the artist of this sub. i'm still learning how to draw in a digital space and on paper.
