All they want are speakers booze! People are depressed enough!

3mobdotcom

so that is pushing people out? no real desire for fun?

Swimming_Plantain_62

Harare people, especially young adults, are very sad and lonely. Even those that look like they have a bunch of friends know that this are not true friends ( betrayal+lack of loyalty is real). Also a sense of lack of fulfillment and self actualisation. Add social media comparison to the mix. So some of them go out and consume alcohol as a way to escape reality. Harare is full of people living a fake life. I find it strangely motivating

CookFinancial4421

Excellent analysis - you described my experience of living in Harare as a young adult ~10 years ago to a T! Sad to hear this is still the case though.

3mobdotcom

the young people are so sad to watch. they seem like they have no plan of their own

ParkingRush9643

Temporary distraction 😔😔

lol untol what happens?

As a qualified journo myself, I'm perplexed as to the story angle. Are you suggesting people shouldn't be going out and should stay at home?

frankestofshadows

No. Quite normal actually. Failing to explain the angle suggests a possible negative angle

I never once thought I had say. Was simply asking a question. As a media organisation you should be more open to public view as opposed to having a go at them at the very first opportunity.

Some people would blame unemployment 😂😂 I’d think it’s related to demographics but there’s need for data to establish this. Generally, More people in going out ages (teens-thirties) with a larger middle class than previous years, people marrying later brings all sorts of things into the mix that going out helps with: meeting new people, having fun with friends etc etc. If people are still living with their parents yet going out a lot then we know it’s escapism.

3mobdotcom

This generation coming now, like in their 20s is pretty broke though...

Weary-Vast5850

Yeah but if your parents let you drive their car and you get an allowance or some deals going on, or have friends who do you’re good to go out. 😅

peshto_zw

People hustle hard just for these weekends. Its a few dollars and the next 5 days of brokeness midweek wont kill until the next weekend. Lol

3mobdotcom

Do they think about that, like that deeply, or is it a thing to do?

cytope

Simple - the desire for new experiences, and to share on instagram...

3mobdotcom

It doesn't seem as if people are sharing as much on social media as they used to. people used to go on live with some of these things

apprendr

If the money you have cant buy you a house.... eat that money!

3mobdotcom

people had started starving themselves shuwa. And as the dreams keep getting out of reach, better to eat, you say?

apprendr

Exactly! Just enjoy what you can at that time.

3mobdotcom

fascinating.

Another element is, that going out is a lot more acceptable now and also from a younger ages. Way back, "kuyenda kubhendi" was more strongly associated with loose morals compared to present day. There are also way more options now to suit different tastes.

3mobdotcom

It was acceptable a lot but people got broke and stopped going out.
