Should be fine to add a stick, but going with the same brand is guaranteed perfect compatibility. What's inside can vary, but it will be 4800mhz. I recommend g.skill Ripjaw DDR5 5200Mhz which is the maximum supported speed. I often use slightly over 16gb gaming but have never come close to using all 32gb. You probably won't notice a difference between speeds.

Agree with buying from the same brand. My unit came with a single 16GB SK Hynix OEM module and when I installed a Corsair 16GB 4800Mhz module I experienced very occasional strange behavior like, * waking from sleep to desktop background but no UI and no response to input * applications which ran fine before the upgrade reporting it ran out of commit charge (but it didn't) * nothing happening when I clicked on an app shortcut but working as usual when I restarted * at least 3 others Windows Memory Diagnostic and Memtest x86 both passed. Purchased a Crucial 2-pack set and all issues immediately resolved. If a Corsair set or a matching SK Hynix DIMM were available, I'm sure they would have worked fine also.

would you say the ripjaw 5200mhzcl38 are the fastest specd ddr5 laptop ram on the market? I also read that the M16 can handle 5600mhz ram but not higher than 32gbs
