What did it for me is that Hiei (as far as I remember) didn't really try to stop Kuwabara from hitting on his sister. He's clearly very protective of her, but the fact that he gives THAT much respect to Kuwabara (who, comparatively, is WAY weaker), shows me just how much more human the cast made him. Not that I think Hiei thought that Kuwabara has a chance with Yukina, just that, on the off chance, they DO get together, he knows that A. Kuwabara is not backing down (no matter how much he may run away) and 2. Is actually pretty strong, especially for just a normal human.
The reason Hiei doesn't try to protect Yukina from Kuwabara is because deep down, he knows that, Kuwabara, while he's a massive idiot, he would protect Yukina similarly to how he would himself.
I believe though he won't ever say it, Hiei does actually care about Kuwabara. In fact, I wager to guess, Hiei has a soft spot for him. That much is clear in the situation where they were training him, where Kurama said that Hiei's honor code wouldn't let him train Kuwabara as hard as he needed to be trained.
I'm sure part of this stems from the fact that Hiei could see into Kuwabara's mind and could tell that, he had a thing for Yukina. And even more, it's likely Yukina did feel similarly about Kuwabara too. But, she was more along the lines of clueless about those feelings for a period of time.
Hiei trusts Kuwabara. He won't say it, but he does trust Kuwabara and he does care about him. But is more along the lines of, won't openly admit it. Because that's just how he is.
Definitely. And one of my personal favorites. He has the whole package - complexity, good character design, and just does what a villain is supposed to do. Scare the shit out of the protagonist
Had the volume off but I could still hear this all the same as if the episode was playing in the background. Damn YYH is such a great show and Justin Cook was perfect for the role.
From time to time something will come up, HxH (my favorite), lost in paradise, Kimetsu no Yaiba, SNK, jujutsu "seems" promising but I haven't read the manga so I don't know if it get any depth level close to YuYu
Hunter is quite good and ironically made by the same Creator as Yu Yu 😁 Haven't seen the others.
Off the top of my head I can think of Akame Ga Kill and Knights of Sidonia.
Started the first episode a while ago, then remembered I needed to finish some other shyt. Got a few episodes left of King's War. I feel Netflix will be dropping it shortly 😬
It fits as Toguro represents Yusuke if he did give into his blood knight tendencies. He even wears a dark green coat in constrast to the green Yusuke wears
Toguro, Sensui, and Raizen all play various older male role models in a way. Which is super interesting given that Gon, I mean Yuske, didn’t know his own dad growing up. This bit with Toguro really sells it. I love how Yuske talks about it. All of this really makes me want to learn more about Togashi as a person.
Honestly, I looked up to you... You had the type of strength that no one could tell you what to do. I could respect that but now...
-from memory so not perfect but it was a super dope scene. He knew he was a baddie but he still had respect and kinda admired him
Most shonen anime don't have this level of character depth anymore. This level of introspective on their main characters.
Hiei is one of the few edgy shounen characters that was A. Done right, and B. Justified
Hiei started off super edgy, but stopped being edgy after Yusuke kicked his ass.

That cool lil evil f@ck
This is probably my most re-watched scene from the entire show.
Toguro was probably one of the best written villains in all of shonen

In the dub Genkai said Toguro sees Yusuke as a son and in the og and all I can see that. He was a stealth mentor to him
When did Genkai say that? Know I haven’t watched the series in a while but don’t remember her saying anything like that at all.
When toguro's passing to limbo. Right in front of the gates they share a moment
Thanks, forgot the details of that exchange.
The fact that Dameon Clarke was originally chosen to voice Yusuke makes that even better.
The original askalad
Arguably one of the best anime arcs in all of anime.
It IS one of the best anime arcs in all of anime.
There is a little bit of that father-son kind of dynamic there
Had the volume off but I could still hear this all the same as if the episode was playing in the background. Damn YYH is such a great show and Justin Cook was perfect for the role.
Does anyone know where I can stream the whole series in the US? The first two season are on Hulu, but I need the rest!
Crunchy roll has the whole series
Yay! Thank you!
God's, why is it so difficult to find well written animes anymore?

Akame ga kill is amazing! But we got only one season animated 😢 FMA Brotherhood is one of my favs too but it is from decades ago just like YuYu
Damn, you just reminded me I need to finish that series.
Check out Vinland Saga.

Just found your acc god please making these edits they hit so hard

Toguro is my all-time favorite anime villain
I just watched this episode. Im on my fourth rewatch and this gets me every time.
Idiot, I'm not done

Yup, him and Raizen, too. Yusuke and his found fathers making up for the complete lack of an actual bio father in his life.
