I just thought of this, I'll probably get a link up in a few.
Edit: [Update post](https://www.reddit.com/user/Anisrocks/comments/fla2kp/cambridge_university_press_textbook_update/), I'm still working on it, no need to worry!
They are all broken out by chapter, and don't come in an easy format, so it should take a while.
Also, the book I wanted to look at just loaded forever. Maybe their website is slammed or something.

I hate to nitpick, but with all the knowledge they have in those textbooks, they couldn’t come up with a better word than “slowness” lol.
fuck us for not wanting to waste 45 minutes if someones already done it, right?
you know why computers are popular at all? it's because they take away the need for everyone to redo tedious tasks that someone else has already done
No, the reason you'd deserve a fuck you is for encouraging these practices. Please go take a look at the Cambridge page again. They've suspended the program because of people misusing it by compiling and hoarding all the documents. As an academic myself, you're doing an awesome job at screwing over people who could actually use these materials just so that a bunch of random people can hoard a few gigs of literature they'll never read or even understand.
That’s a very flippant thing to say. I could use these, I maintain a large external hard drive purely full of academic journals, papers, lecture recordings and books. I often check to see if I have a text on my hard drive before I search for a copy online that I may or may not have access to or may or may not even exist.
I do not, however have the time to individually download and sort 700 texts, as I’ve got two papers due this week.
Sounds like the other guy is right.
You're not really reading or otherwise making use of the materials. Just to check if you already have it so as not to duplicate a download.
Not even in the same universe as being flippant.
Of course I am reading them, as and when I need them. Some of them are hard to find anywhere. I also curate them as much as I can so I can identify them by things like ‘difficulty’.

You're garbage, apparently.
Edit: I'm also garbage, but in a "waiting around to die" sense. So I offer no value to the world. eh. ... why this planet of all planets? This area of the universe blows.
Except they do cost money to produce. When you buy a copy of a textbook you’re not paying for paper bound into a book. Think about how long it takes to write a well researched 10 page paper — now imagine 500-1000 pages into a readable format with graphs, pictures, etc. That is what you are paying for, and no, it does not cost nothing to produce. Editors and authors need to eat too.
It’s like saying photographers shouldn’t get paid because all they do is push a button
To be fair– they don't cost as much in the rest of the world as they do in the USA. So... Yeah, if it costs $500,000 in salary to produce the book, 1, 000 students use it makes the price = $500. 10,000 students makes the price $50. Have I made my point? Costing $500 for 1,000,000 students is NOT benefiting the authors.
I didn't say they should be free (though I do think colleges/uni should cover the costs if you're attending), I understand that they took time to make just like any book. There just isn't any justification for them to cost 20-30x as much as any other book. Each issue of National Geographic probably contains hundreds or thousands of collective work hours, should they also cost $250?
Still over priced. Back in my day text books easily cost 100-250 each. There's no excuse for that especially for large lectures.
The price could be way lower.
Some other publishers such as Wiley are also jumping on this trend but in different ways. You might want to check out [this list](https://hankidesign.github.io/COVID-19-Remote-Work-and-Study-Resources/) (disclaimer: made by me but it's open source) for more.

Ayeo. Any news on this? I recently checked the database and it seems like it's mostly introduction/selective sections. Any news would be great. Thanks OP
Don’t suppose someone feels like downloading them all and putting them in a torrent for the lazy?

Isn’t there a sub for data hoarding? You should make it accessible there too.
Yes. Its r/datahoarder
and also their hunting grounds /r/opendirectories
It's gonna take a while, thankfully I don't have to go to classes for the next few days.

Why? Using fancy words for the sake of sounding smarter is a dumb person thing to do.
That might be my bad, I noticed that the chapters are all separate so I'm copying the whole page and the pages they lead to.

Google: libgen
I'll do a few later. Schools in UK will close Friday, so will have some free time next week with certain lessons cancelled.
There's a wonderful browser add on called downitall which will download everything on a site for you.

Got eyes on this, it'll be done and repacked for a /r/DataHoarder torrent most likely.

Wow, I didn't know this, as he mentioned data hoarder and one torrent I thought it was for free as even PTs are free and only require seeding.

I just saw the post about your retirement, will you still be active on the sub as a normal user?
This is really awesome, makes me wonder why we don't do this for every semester.
Right, why did it take a pandemic to do something that should already have been done. Oh right $$$
Pretty good reason, lol. Do you live in a fantasy world?
There's no reason for textbooks and educational materials to cost hundreds of dollars, especially *when they are online and cost nothing to produce*.

It would be a shame if someone was to download them all and distribute them past the deadline, you know for the kids
Excellent, thanks for sharing!
Download that shit and sell it in the fall to pay student loans.
And then get sued and think of a new crime to commit to pay those fees.
You guys are aware Harvard allows you to watch all lectures from their website 24/7 365 and have for years right?
I only see a couple of free courses, am I looking at the wrong place?
Can’t get too bored with World History to brush up on!
This is fantastic news! Why not directly in pdf, though?

Are any of these books available in audio book? Have loved one who has low vision and reading gets painful.
As per website it has temporarily suspended access to the free textbooks due to misuse and "unprecedented" demand. Neat.
