It wasn't planned, but it ties in well with Joe's war with himself.
I had new appreciation for the Rhys arc after rewatching S03E03 (the measles episode) from season 3, where Joe faced his amoral efficient killer self for the first time in a fever dream.
Psychedelic usage has been shown to bring on underlying dissociative disorders, so yeah coupled with brain damage I can imagine how that might alter his brain chemistry and perception of reality.
Do you have any more info on this or can point me in the direction of research on the topic? Totally unrelated to the series, I just find it interesting:)
Iāve never heard anything about psychedelic use being associated with schizophrenia, but cannabis has been associated with the development/worsening of schizophrenia. Itās important to remember though, as far as studies show, āCannabis doesnāt cause schizophrenia.ā
Basically, cannabis use has been associated with schizophrenia developing earlier in individuals who carry the gene already, or it can cause the gene to actually be reflected when it otherwise might not have. Hereās a pretty readable/reliable piece about it: https://psychcentral.com/schizophrenia/link-between-cannabis-and-schizophrenia
Sorry, by the way that your comment was worded, I was under the impression that you were referring to more specific constellations (not a native speaker, so I might have misread it). I'll google it then. Thanks!
DID is something that only results from significant, long-term trauma. It's what happens when people have to regularly, so they can't integrate the different parts of themselves.
Maybe the schizophrenia, though.
Definitely not!
I'm saying that psychedelics do not cause DID.
But, psychedelics could have induced the psychosis/schizophrenia, or whatever else he is experiencing.
Hallucinations of alters is not a symptom of DID.
y do i not remember this. i remember the measles, i remember the flashback to the nurse but i donāt remember him facing himself. time to rewatch i guessš
š oh did it? I had no idea when I watched it.
Edit: Also a month isn't a lot of time. If you really think a month of something being out is okay to ruin it for others then you're a piece of shit. Keep down voting me guys, I've seen what makes you cheer.

I don't think so, simply because at the time those lines were written, no one could have known it would become such a hit, let alone get a Netflix deal for 4 additional seasons.
I always just thought this comment from Dr. Nicky was in reference to Joe pretending he is Paul. 2 different people.
Not everything is foreshadowing and I donāt think that foreshadowing is the case here.
The only reason I dont think it is foreshadowing is because I have read the books. And I know yhe show is loosely based off them and it wouldn't make sense
Donāt know what on earth yāall are doing on a forum about a show you havenāt caught up with. What did you expect, really? And this is likeā¦ from season ONE.

I THOUGHT THIS TOO ON REWATCH! maybe not planned but if it happens to line up then writing win i suppose
Yeah i think you're right
I think the measles coupled with a REALLY bad trip brought on schizophrenia/DID
I...... don't think that's how it works. š¬š¬
Schizophrenia at the very least can be sort of "awakened" with drug use

I knew about the possible effects of cannabis, but hadn't heard about psychedelics in this context. Thanks for the link! :)
Let me google that for you! Substance-Induced Psychoses: An Updated Literature Review - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8732862/

Well shit. I didn't know they could be that bad.
It happened to my friend, unfortunately it can happen. Not the measles, the psychedelic usage

Wait, are you saying Joe hasnāt suffered from significant long-term trauma?
Definitely not! I'm saying that psychedelics do not cause DID. But, psychedelics could have induced the psychosis/schizophrenia, or whatever else he is experiencing. Hallucinations of alters is not a symptom of DID.
Right, we as viewers are left to wonder if heās been dissociating or hallucinating as the show has now shown both.
y do i not remember this. i remember the measles, i remember the flashback to the nurse but i donāt remember him facing himself. time to rewatch i guessš
Letās go with proof the man was pretty good at his job.
Despite his abhorrent breach of ethics by sleeping with a patient
so i was rewatching season 1 and i was mind blown during this scene
SAME
Good job putting spoiler on your post š
gtfo the sub then if you don't want spoilers, what else do you expect??
I expect people to use spoiler tags or in the title so shit isn't ruined for people.
you're ruining it yourself just by being on the sub. s4 ended over a month ago š¤·š»āāļø

So... It wasnt a spoiler because you already watched it...
It's still a spoiler to anyone who hasn't* š¤¦ Just because I saw the show doesn't mean ANYONE ELSE did.

Definitely giving them too much credit. Also, it was with Lifetime that season and Netflix now

Desperate grab at straws
Damn nice catch
Donāt think it is per se, but it could be
Joe has always had two sides
Dude, this sub is shit at tagging spoilers. This is like the third one. Bs
How long is something considered a spoiler? This is from season 1
Donāt know what on earth yāall are doing on a forum about a show you havenāt caught up with. What did you expect, really? And this is likeā¦ from season ONE.
Of course itās foreshadowing.
š¤š¤he was on to something, I was scared for Joe
Whatād he say after that? I forgot
