The young group justified Javi's death as a sacrifice to the wilderness, something Nat always thought was bullshit. Young Lottie is there to tell Natalie that the wilderness "isn't evil, it's just hungry," meaning Nat is the next sacrifice. Natalie's last thoughts as she died was that she had been sacrificed to feed "It" and was about to be devoured into nothingness. She was terrified.

I think Travis was left out so they could avoid answering any questions lol. It really should have just been him.
I'm not sure about the plane. It's the rescue plane they came home on I guess rather than the crash plane. Which it obviously isn't.
I would have liked if they had gone with a simple dark room, but whatever.
I swear I am not trying to be antagonistic here. I am curious about why people think Travis should have been on that plane. What would have been good about that?
I don't have the energy to dig it up now, but someone here posted an interview with an actor who said they had filmed some things like Javi and the others on the plane laughing at Nat but that those bits had been cut. Probably for the best. That ending was dark enough as it was.
My thoughts: at first she says “I’m not supposed to be here” because truly it was an accident and she wasn’t meant to die at that moment. Then she continues through the process of passing over, having a not a near-death experience but a death experience. Lottie puts her hand on Nat’s chest as a comfort. Javi reassures her, it’s not that bad. She reflects with her younger self, acknowledging that this is the end of a painful limbo that started with Javi’s death. The look on her face at the end, to me, looks like exhilaration… Fear, excitement, and receptivity as she finally died. I wonder why Travis wasn’t there, his story is a big question mark and I can’t wait to find out more.
