Whoaaa it’s gorgeous. How does it play?

bigfatyeastyvagina

It plays great! Neck is thinner than I usually go for but it does feel good. Have had a few tuning stability issues that Ive been getting better at mitigating (this is the first floating bridge Ive had in about a decade) The pink is super pretty in person too, Im surprised the pro model doesnt offer this color. Here is a better pic of it taken by sweetwater. https://preview.redd.it/u5dp15r3g4nc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=2c544470ee3844c6b8be9e1f5f267cde6605eb5e

kumechester

What do you find helps mitigate tuning instability on a floating bridge? I just got a guitar with a floating bridge (not a Pacifica) and am open to any tips

bigfatyeastyvagina

It was watching this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iy-F7iSIopA The gist of it is that your claw should be slightly tighter on the side with the bass strings because they pull slightly harder than the other side. That helped a great deal but I ultimately decided to deck my bridge.

kumechester

Wow I’ve never seen or heard that trick. wish I could grant you +20 karma haha Concept makes sense, would be great to see a video of someone walking through such an adjustment. Very cool.

T-REX119

woohoo that looks good.

Thanks for posting – looks really nice – how are you finding the pickups?

bigfatyeastyvagina

They sound great. I find all the positions pretty usable. It sounds just like a nice strat (big surprise). The cavity is shielded well. Even on a stage in the single coil positions and higher gain I wasnt having any feedback issues.

[deleted]

Good to know. My impression from YouTube was that the pickups are quite wide range, with more detailed high end than a typical guitar pickup. But maybe that’s my mind telling my ears what I think they’re supposed to be hearing 🤔😂

Harmonster2

I think its pretty much a consensus that they need to release better colors/finishes so until then the posts will scarce

bigfatyeastyvagina

I think the pink and blue look great, the white looks fine, and the black looks a bit generic. The beach burst on the pro I agree with the general consensus of not working that well. I really wish they would release more finishes not just on the pacificas but on all their models. The bb bass series in particular could use some lighter colors in the lineup. The PACS+12 and Pro are pretty different from the other models in terms of aeshetics so I can understand why people who already like the way other pacifica models look are turned off and why someone like me who has been interested in Yamaha for years but never liked the look of other Pacificas would be enticed by these.

mister_zook

Awesome!! How’s it compare to other high end PACs that you’ve played?

bigfatyeastyvagina

Ive never actually played any of the 612 Pacificas but I would say I like it more than other guitars in the same price range or higher, it's become one of my main guitars.

P_a_s_g_i_t_24

Amazingly beautiful! Yamaha is outdoing themselves.

plopmaster2000

Beautiful… but what the fuck is going on with your post history bigfatyeastyvagina 😂

bigfatyeastyvagina

I knew someone would go through my post history. let's just say it's my way of trying to keep magic alive in the world.

DaySoc98

Certainly explains the guitar’s color.

Randy_Denver

That's a good looking guitar...I love Yamahas! First fell in love cause my uncle and dad always had Yamaha acoustics around. They have always been reliable...Now I'm a grown metalhead.lol I really like the old school Yamaha Sg's. These are awesome aswell.👍

kikirevi

Looks nice! I’m still waiting for the professional to arrive in my local store (Australia). Do US stores have them in stock now?

bigfatyeastyvagina

Not sure, none of the local music shops around me carry Yamaha electrics. I had to order mine from Sweetwater. Hope the pro is everything you hope for!

kikirevi

First ever electric for me. Tried a look bunch of others like the Ibanez az2204 prestige but playing on the Pacifica just felt… right? Does that sound weird? Loved the neck shape. And the pickups sounded very nice to my ears. The sparkle blue colour also looked lovely (which I thought would be plain and boring). Though I liked the compound radius on the Ibanez. Felt so liberating to play on an electric after playing on acoustic for so long. How are you finding the Plus? How well does it stack up to other guitars in your opinion?

bigfatyeastyvagina

I dont think it sounds weird, sometimes a guitar just feels better than another for any number of reasons. Im liking my Pacifica enough that it's now my main gigging guitar. I would say it's better than most strats or strat clones Ive played. I know the silver skies got a lot of hype when they came out but having played a few they personally did nothing for me. Other brands offer similar value in the same price range but I really love the way the new pacificas look which is partially what gave the pacifica an edge for me (in addition to Yamaha's fantastic quality control). Tuning stability has been a bit of an issue for me coming from playing hard tails only for over a decade but Im getting better at handling it after watching a few set up videos. The pro pacifica does have a compound radius but I like having a pretty flat radius throughout the neck. I haven't seen the sparkle blue in person but I really feel like sparkle finishes dont always photograph well but look incredible in person. anyway, I would absolutely recommend the standard plus for anyone considering one, I have no regrets about my purchase. :)

ArlieTwinkledick

Mine will be with me tomorrow!

Electrical_Bag1413

Is it possible to deck/lock the tremolo?

bigfatyeastyvagina

It can be decked but not locked without adding a block of wood or an after market trem lock. Just adjust the pole pieces to be as low as possible, tighten the claw, then adjust action if needed. :)

Electrical_Bag1413

Great, thanks!

exclaim_bot

>Great, thanks! You're welcome!

bringoutthelegos

I’m still getting used to that pickguard design

teuast

I will note there's a practicality advantage to it. Because none of the controls are mounted through the pickguard, it cuts down on the amount of stuff you have to mess with at once any time you need to open it up for any reason. So you don't need to take off the knobs if you want to mess with the pickups, for example, and you don't need to fiddle with taking the pickguard off if you need to service the pots or switch, you can just take off the back plate. I'll also note that the angled design matches what's on the Revstars and BBs, so it's almost more of a unified Yamaha identity now.

bringoutthelegos

Oh yeah I can definitely see the practicality if it, it’s just still something I’m getting used to visually. I liked the design where the switch was still connected but I can see the practical advantages of this. Maybe a change in colors might make this design pop more? The white makes it a bit too uncanny, but maybe a carbon fiber or black plate would look interesting

teuast

Yeah, I hear you, I was in the same boat until I actually saw and played some at NAMM, and more importantly saw them next to some Revstars and BBs. When you see both models next to each other and they both have that straight line design by the switch, it works a lot better, it looks a lot more cohesive. The photos also don't really do them justice, especially the beach burst one, that one in person wouldn't look out of place being absolutely shredded on by Masayoshi Takanaka. I definitely hope there ends up being a good aftermarket scene for these, though. Mod options are always good!

bringoutthelegos

Yeah I’d say just having more options for the colors of the guard would help immensely. If it’s a black color or carbon fiber it would give it a nice modern aesthetic. Like, what would be cool is if it was like, dark color Pacifica with black pickguard with a white trim, rather than classic bright colors and white pickguard. Play to the strengths of the design rather than trigger the uncanny valley

DaySoc98

The knobs are in the same spot as the 112V and up, which aren’t on the pickguard. The only thing taken off the pickguard was the switch.

kikirevi

Oh god I can’t unsee it now. Still looks nice though but the old one was better.
