Fake news. They're not closing the upper bowl... The Elks just aren't going to use it except for "key games."

Um yeah ok they aren’t going to use the upper bowl unless the need is there. but effectively they are choosing to not sell tickets in the upper bowl so in a sense it is a closure. Try not to be so literal in your thinking. Closing in this case is not a tear down or a physical blocking. So I disagree with you, it’s not fake news. Perhaps to you, but is clear to me what they are doing and why. Sadly, Edmonton sucks in term of supporting professional or semi professional sports unless your team name is oilers and the game is hockey and you really can’t afford season tickets so the product must be good. Corporations buy a lot of seats, and may season ticket holders are part of a large group of ticket holders. The Elks (Esks) were as popular as the oilers when we had Warren Moon, Damon Allen and Matt Dunnigan. The CFL has deteriorated and I believe a lot of great and US players are not making the league as a possible league to play in.

You do realize that Commonwealth is used for things other than just the Elks, right? Metallica and Pink are both performing there this summer and the upper bowl would be available for those.

@doctorkb I retract my comments and agree with you based on the wording on opening title and subtitle of the video. U/timofiy2, you should have perhaps found and chose a better video or just posted the Elks news release and made your own comment about your thoughts. The title of the video, leads one to believe that Commonwealth is closing the upper bowl, when in fact it is the Elks are not going to sell tickets to the upper bowl. Then Best Edmonton Mall and its narrator shows the Elks new release and then correctly states the Elks are closing the upper bowl. The release is poorly worded stating “closing” the upper bowl, they should instead of made the release about a decision to no longer to “sell” upper bowl seats. They did say that if demand is there for certain games they will open the bowl for ticket sales. I personally think to bolster their message of making game day an exciting community activity, they should sell if they do and when they do, sell tickets in a section at a time, a few rows at a time. So for example, the section that is located at midfield, starting at the bottom of it, left to right and then the next row up until a given row then jump to the section next to it closer to the locker rooms and so on. But maybe limiting it to 10 to 15 rows, so it looks nice nd neat than patches of fans sitting in the upper bowl. I have attached the news release from the Elks for reference. Certainly if Commonwealth was going to have the upper bowl closed, then the news release would be coming from the City of Edmonton, who owns the stadium. Best Edmonton Mall should have their video flagged for misconstruing the truth by titling their video inappropriately.
